I got to thinking about all the times that species of Pokémon have been referred to by other names or been given folk titles of sorts. At least within the games, anyway - so I decided to start compiling a list, mostly for my own interest. I wouldn't call this exhaustive yet, but here's what I've come across just by skimming through Dex entries and remembering certain story bits.

Alolan Raichu: Hodad (this is real-world slang for someone who hangs out at a beach with a surfboard, but never actually surfs)
Alolan Vulpix: Keokeo (This originates from the Hawaiian word for "white")
Oddish: Oddium Wanderus (its "scientific name")
Electrode: The Bomb Ball
Exeggutor: The Walking Jungle, The Walking Tropical Rainforest
