Last year said "gym battles" but only showed the Ash vs Clemont match.
I don't know what exactly you're referencing, but it's a moot point considering that Japanese lacks a plural form. If they promised a preview of Ash's gym battle(s), they did deliver on it. And besides, the preview showed a glimpse of the Ramos battle, didn't it?

Does anyone think Serena will get a Hoenn starter in XY104? And by Hoenn starter...I guess Mudkip because Shota already has a heavily featured Treecko/Grovyle/Sceptile and May had Torchic as her starter....

I don't think so. Brock had Mudkip, so they have covered all of them, although you could argue that Scottie had one.
If anything, I think she will end up with Sylveon, Pancham, Delphox, Absol, Meowstic and/or Litwick/Litleo, if you have seen that game board several pages back.

Hey Ash's past travel pals catch some of the same Pokémon that he & his rivals have before & his current ones should too I say Serena should get a Treecko plus I argee with Serena catch Absol & Meowstic too.

True, but Treecko has already featured in this series. Rivals/companions don't catch the same Pokémon in the same series. That happens in a
different series

Night Slash will eventually replace Cut (eventually...). Bounce, Gunk Shot or Ice Punch are unlikely to happen. I could see Hydro Pump soon, or even Hydro Cannon because of their bond. Maybe Water Pledge? I could see Shadow Sneak. Protean could happen because if it was torrent, it would have already been activated (especially against Bisharp and Olympia). Double Team will probably stay. Maybe Dark Pulse?

Brock's Mudkip was lacking compared to Ash's Sceptile and May's Blaziken, We've barely even seen Swampert in the Anime at this point compared to Sceptiles and Blazikens,

Also, Meyer/Clemont's dad has Blaziken. Sawyer has Sceptile. Who has Mudkip's line? Nobody.

I think the Mudkip line is one of the possible candidates for Serena's next Pokemon.

It could, but there has been no evidence. If Mudkip was to be caught soon, would it have been included on the poster? At least there has been a little evidence regarding Litleo and/or Litwick captures. Although, I highly doubt that these will happen.

Agreed. I mean we saw Mudkip on a recent merch image iirc, but it was shown with Treecko and Torchic, so I doubt it meant anything.

For Mudkip I think some next rival will appear with one, possibly as a Marshtomp or even as a Swampert just for hypes.

Does anyone even expect Serena to get a full team? I think it seems a little too late, with her only having three so far. Iris only wound up with four (five if you count Gible) and Dawn already had 5 by now and May had 4 and both those series went longer than this one probably will. I would like it, but I don't think its going to happen.

I don't expect Serena to finish her team and the fact her quest doesn't involve battling is one of the main reasons why (as compared to the often cited cases of Haruka/Hikari).

My big question is how they will get rid of Geckouga at the end of the series. The new form in itself I felt wasn't that big a deal but the fact that Satoshi and it now share pain seems quite significant!

Well it only happens during the form change. Normal Greninja is just like any other Pokemon.

Though it wouldn't surprise me if the writers came up with some BS reason for Greninja to lose the ability.

I kind of think they'll have to - how can he justify dumping a pokemon he is intrinsically linked to (even if it is only during the form change) at the lab?!

I'll leave you with this theory that I've fallen for. Make of it as you may.

I'm just going to copy my tumblr post here.

So in the recent Team Flare episode, it featured Ash feeling pain when Ashgreninja got injured. This means they are connected not only mentally, but also physically. This is interesting, especially considering that the opening sequence had hinted at a possible conflict between Ash and Greninja.

Considering Ash’s personality, I doubt he’d hesitate going for Ashgreninja to win just because he feels the pain. Against other trainers, and even the League. From the battles he’s shown us during the course of XY, he’s an intelligent strategist, and has been choosing efficiency over simply throwing attacks after attacks. Ashgreninja is certainly a viable, efficient power-up to gain the upperhand in battles, so I doubt Ash would have any reason not to use it. He’s never been shown to be afraid of getting hurt or injured.

But I think it would be different for Greninja.

Remember when Froakie felt bad when Ash got injured trying to save him early in the series? Froakie was reckless and refused to take orders, but after he saw Ash risking his own injury to take care of him, he stopped refusing orders and worked on listening to Ash to avoid any possible painful risks to his trainer.

Greninja might refuse to go fully in sync if he knows he’s hurting Ash when he’s the one receiving the attacks. Greninja could be able to endure a few cuts and burns, but it wouldn’t exactly be the same for Ash.

I think there will be a point where Ash is knocked out when Ashgreninja is knocked out, and it would possibly lead to Greninja refusing to go sync with him. Maybe that’s what the conflict in the opening sequence was hinting at?

^ Yep. He doesn't presently appear to know of this aspect and I don't think he's aware of this as of now but as soon as Greninja looks back and sees Ash wincing and/or holding a spot on his own body where Greninja just got hit, I feel that everything's going to change.
We've only seen a Scratch hit to the shoulder during this form, but more direct or super effective hits like Mach Punch or Thunder Fang could be a cause of concern for Greninja when he discovers the implications of their connection, regardless of whether Ash could take it.

I feel like the Blast Burn taken from Alain could make Greninja realize that Ash can feel its pain.
