At this point, I'm wondering if there will be no more captures for Ash this region. I could totally see that last slot used as a rotating slot for his pokemon at Oak's lab and possibly Goodra during his league matches. Something I find interesting is Goodra's continued representation in merchandise. For example, this set of figures to be released in April:
All Pokemon extremely relevant to the ongoing anime, aside from Audino, who I would compare to the quiladin from the set before, being the lone Pokemon not majorly involved with the main cast who just happened to have a random episode focused on it.
Just to be clear, I'm not trying to say Goodra's continued presence in merchandise is any kind of hardcore evidence of it's return, closely following the merchandise since the DP days has long ago taught me trying to read it as a crystal ball can be a fools errand a large portion of the time. I just thought it's inclusion in a line that very clearly is paying attention to anime events (the braixen from the last set even has Serena's ribbon!) was worth mentioning.
I do hope this is not the case, however. In my personal opinion, the more diversity among Ash's roster, the less likely battles and plots are to go stale. (I'm one of the seemingly(?) few who loved that Ash just kept catching in Unova, disappointment from how poorly the rotation was handled afterwards aside) I would be happy with bergmite, phantump or anything, really! A May's munchlax situation to raise intrigue about the eventual next generation with an all together new Pokemon would be amazing, but that's just wishful thinking on my part. Especially considering we still don't know what type of game the next in the main series will be.
