As a fan of Quaxly, I have to admit I'm disappointed with how unimportant it seems to be thus far. It was in the background in the posters and can be barely seen in some other promotional work...meanwhile, the two protags seem to be getting Sprigatito and Fuecoco respectively and Quaxly is either gonna go to one of them or will have a different role.

It's still to early to say definitively, but I really hope Quaxly gets to have an important role in the story of PM2023.

I'm just hoping that they'll both primarily have Paldea Pokemon on their teams. I could understand wanting their teams to possibly reflect their travels around different regions, but I don't really want them to only have one or two Pokemon from Paldea while the rest of their teams are mainly full of popular older Pokemon that don't really need the boost of being part of the anime's main cast.

Well, Professor Freide is already confirmed to have a Pikachu and a Charizard, so it looks like he's gonna be the character to whom the writers will give the obligatory popular mascots. I hope that is the case because it's probably the best compromise: If Freide also catches/is revealed to have a Lucario and an Eevee, then they along with Pikachu and Charizard can continue to be a constant presence for marketing purposes without overshadowing other Pokemon (at least the ones that Liko and Roy catch, anyway) too much.

I'm sure that we will. I don't think that they'll just write off Ash never to feature him in anything again. We don't know when or if that would happen, but I'm sure that he'll show up somewhere down the road.

I actually want this to be the case to be completely honest, because it's pretty obvious by now that the mascot Pokemon are contractually obligated to have a constant presence in the anime no matter what, and giving all of them to Freide would ensure that none of them will overshadow Liko's and Roy's teams.

So yeah, if the mascotmons have to be caught by somebody in the main cast, I'd say let Freide get all of them so that other Pokemon get to shine under Liko and Roy.

I wonder what the plan is for Quaxly in the anime.

We first see a Quaxly under the ownership of Gurumin in the first episode.
But then we see that there is a Quaxly onboard the Brave Asagi.

Quaxly is placed close to Landau in the opening, so is that a hint that it will belong to him?
I've seen some people theorize that Landau and Gurumin are the same person, which I think is a little outlandish, considering he is an elderly man, but I guess you can't rule anything out in the Pokemon anime?

A thought I had was that the Quaxly is perhaps a stowaway. The other Pokemon were in the company of their trainers. Of course, Landau was the only member we didn't see in the second episode and Quaxly fled into some room that we didn't see into, so Landau could have potentially been in there. But I do think its possible that a Pokemon could have slipped onto the ship while they were boarded in the Paldea region.

Anyways, I really like Quaxly, so I don't want him to be cast to the side while Sprigatito and Fuecoco get to hog the spotlight, since that appears to happen pretty often in the anime. Don't be another Mudkip, Quaxly.

The whole situation with Quaxly is interesting. Like, what is it gonna be? Is Nidothing one of Friede's crew members? Is the Quaxly on his ship a random one? Who knows.

Either way, I give Pokemon Horizons a point because we got all three starters in the first two episodes and didn't have to wait to see all of them like we had to in Journeys. Already did that better. I just hope each get some valuable screentime and useage.
