Pokémon GO celebrates the arrival of 2024 with a special New Year's Event starting January 1st - Details on other events in January 2024 also released

Darumaka and Jigglypuff celebrating the start of 2024
Pokémon GO is once again ringing in the New Year with a special New Year's celebration event. Unlike the 2023 event, this time around the event will start only after the beginning of the near year, running from January 1st, 2024, at 10:00am, until January 3rd, at 8:00pm local time. Details on several upcoming events and activities in Pokémon GO across January 2024 have also been announced by Niantic on their website and in infographics posted to their official account on X (formerly Twitter).

Pokémon GO New Years's 2024 Event
As with previous years, festive fireworks will light up the Pokémon GO skies during this New Year's event, and a selection of Pokémon will be available in outfits themed around New Year's parties, including the debut appearances of Jigglypuff wearing a ribbon and Wigglytuff wearing a ribbon.

Event Bonuses and Activities
The following bonuses will be active throughout the event:
  • 1/2 Egg Hatch Distance when Eggs are placed into Incubators during the event
  • 1/4 Hatch Distance for the first three Eggs hatched during the event using the Pokémon GO Egg hatching widget.
Trainers should note that bonuses will not stack.

Timed and Field Research
Between January 1st, 2024, at 10:00am to January 3rd, at 8:00pm local time, Trainers will be able to purchase access to event-exclusive Timed Research for US$1.00 (or the equivalent pricing tier in each local currency) from the in-game shop. Completing these tasks will award Trainers with earn Stardust, XP, and PokéCoins, and encounters with event-specific Pokémon (see below). The Timed Research tasks associated with these Tickets must be completed and their rewards must be claimed before January 3rd, 2024, at 8:00pm local time.

Free event-themed Field Research will also be running during this event. Trainers completing the Field Research tasks will be awarded with Stardust, and encounters with Darumaka and Bronzor.

The Darumaka Hat avatar item will be available to purchase in the in-game shop beginning from this event. This new item will continue to be available after the end of the New Year's 2024 event.

Event bundles
The in-game shop will be offering a special in-game bundle for this event, with Trainers able to receive 1 Incubator and 1 Premium Battle Pass for a cost of only 99 PokéCoins.

Pokémon GO Community Day - Rowlet
January 2024 Community Day - Rowlet

Rowlet will be the featured Pokémon for Pokémon GO's Community Day for January 2024, which will be held on January 6th, 2024, from 2:00pm to 5:00pm local time. During this event, Rowlet will be appearing more frequently in the wild, together with their Shiny variant.

Event Bonuses and Activities
The following event bonuses will also be active throughout the event:
  • 3× Stardust for catching Pokémon
  • 2× Candy for catching Pokémon
  • 2× chance for Trainers level 31 and up to receive Candy XL from catching Pokémon
  • Lure Modules and Incense (excluding Daily Adventure Incense) activated during the event will last for three hours
  • Trainers can receive an in-game surprise by taking a few snapshots during Community Day
  • One additional Special Trade can be made for a maximum of three for the day (active from 2pm to 10pm)
  • Trades will require 50% less Stardust (active from 2:00pm to 10:00pm)
PokéStop Showcases for Rowlet will also be running throughout the event at different PokéStops.

Event Bundles in the Pokémon GO Web Store and In-Game Shop
The Pokémon GO Web Store will offer a Ultra Community Day Bundle, including 120 Ultra Balls, 15 Silver Pinap Berries, 6 Incubators, and 1 Incense, at a special discount rate of $9.99 USD (or the equivalent pricing tier in each local currency).

Additionally, the in-game shop will be offering the following two bundles:
  • 50 Ultra Balls, 5 Super Incubators, 1 Elite Charged TM, and 5 Lucky Eggs - 1,350 PokéCoins
  • 30 Ultra Balls, 1 Incense, 3 Super Incubators, and 1 Lure Module - 480 PokéCoins
Rowlet Stickers for Rowlet Community Day
Event Stickers
Trainers can get event-themed stickers by spinning PokéStops, opening Gifts, and purchasing them from the in-game shop.

Community Day Research
A Rowlet Community Day-exclusive Special Research story will be available for purchase at US$1.00 (or the equivalent pricing tier in each local currency). This Special Research can also be gifted to any friend with a Friendship level of Great Friends or higher.

Community Day-themed Field Research will also be available. Amongst other rewards, players completing the Field Research will be able to earn additional encounters with Rowlet, Stardust, and Ultra Balls.

Community Day Featured Attacks
Dartrix that are evolved into Decidueye during the Community Day event, or within five hours after it concludes while the Bonus Raid Battles are running, will learn the Charged Attack Frenzy Plant. This move has 100 power in Trainer Battles, in Gyms, and in Raids.

Starting from this event, Decidueye will also be able to learn the Charged Attack Spirit Shackle. This move has 50 power in Trainer Battles, as well as a chance to lower an opposing Pokémon's Defense by one stage. In Gyms and in Raids, the move has 70 power will no additional effects.

Bonus Raids
Immediately following the scheduled end of the Community Day, from 5:00pm to 10:00pm local time, unique Four-Star Raids against Dartrix will take place. When Trainers defeat the Raid Boss, additional Rowlet will appear around the Gym that hosted the raid for 30 minutes. Trainers can only join these raids using Raid Passes and Premium Battle Passes. Remote Raid Passes cannot be used. Rowlet appearing as a result of these raids will have the same odds of appearing as Shiny as during the main Community Day event.

January's Featured Pokémon, Encounters, and Raids

Featured Pokémon and Attacks
Tornadus, Landorus, and Thundrus in their Therian Formes will be the featured Pokémon for the January content update. Each of these Pokémon will also be receiving featured Charged Attacks, as follows:
  • Tornadus (Therian Forme) ⁂ - Bleakwind Storm
  • Thundurus (Therian Forme) ⁂ - Windbolt Storm
  • Landorus (Therian Forme) ⁂ - Sandsear Storm
Each of these attacks has 60 power in Trainer Battles, as well as a chance to lower an opposing Pokémon's Attack by one stage. In Gyms and Raids, the attacks each have 140 power.
