I think it used Whirlwind a couple of times, but that's about it. Butterfree didn't really battle that much. Its release was easily its most memorable moment.

Even if they both hypothetically evolved, Decidueye and Toucanon would feel pretty redundant imo

I think that’s subjective. One is a literal Ghost type whose battle style is stealth and speed; while Toucannon would be comparatively slower and rely on long range. I do agree with your overall point; but Decidueye and Toucannon can be just as different as say; Noivern and Talonflame.
