Here's an idea: Those that are able to use Ki, have a natural resistance to that particular type of Ki (Kyo would have a resistance to Water Ki since he is able to use it).

That makes sense. You would also resist attacks your innate ki resisted. (So fire wouldn't even make you flinch)

Why Electric would.

Electricity would be painful to a Water innate. But your Ice innate would ease some of it

Why would Ice ease some pain? Ice does not resist Electric. I think I see why, but not sure.

Makes sense. This also means that my character will take longer to freeze than those who don't have Ice ki, right?

I just realized: Not only would Kyo have natural resistance to cold, but also to heat. After all, Fire is weak to Water.

That is what I mean. He is more heat-resistant.

But he's ice too. At best, he'd be no better off than normal people at resisting fire. He doesn't have Thick Fat, unless he actually is a pudgy ninja and that just hasn't been described. Also with a bit of logic, water in actual heat - not fire - tends not to do so well. Personally I think it would be fitting anyway if he didn't like heat very much - people who can take cold tend to not be able to take heat and vice-versa. See also: how water moves in Sunny Day get weaker.
