Red, Blue, and Leaf arrive in Champion outfits
A new version of Pokémon Masters EX, version 2.36.0, is now available to download. This update adds the new EX Role feature to the game, along with implementing a variety of changes to Ticket Scouts and certain previously time-limited content that were previewed at the end of July. The monthly message from the producers of Pokémon Masters EX has also revealed more details on the 4-year anniversary celebrations, with information on the final conclusion to the Villain Arc, and on new Master Sync Pairs that will launch alongside this story update.

The next letter from the producers is slated to be released in late-September.

Update Summary
The full changelog from the Version 2.36.0 update can be read here.

Addition of new EX Roles
The new EX Role feature has now been added to the Sync Pair upgrade options. EX Roles allow Sync Pairs to gain the power of an additional role in addition to their regular role. The first sync pairs with the ability to unlock an EX Role will be added to the game starting August 27th, at 11:00pm (PDT). More detail on these pairs can be found below. While these three Sync Pairs will be the only ones with EX Roles at this time, it is intended that EX Roles will be added to existing Sync Pairs over time in subsequent updates.

With the addition of EX Roles comes the addition of new items to unlock them for each individual sync pair. The new Roll Cake items can be acquired by exchanging the corrosponding Role Cake Coins for the EX Role. These coins will be available from a variety of sources, including the newly updated Daily Missions (see below), and as battle completion rewards from Daily Region Rotation (see below).

New difficulty level for Daily Region Rotation
Connecting to the addition of EX Roles, a new difficulty level is being added to the Daily Region Rotation on September 2nd. Players will be able to earn the new Roll Cake Coins by completing battles at this new difficulty level.

Leaf & Eevee
Trainer Lodge Updates

From August 29th at 11:00pm (PDT), a new trainer will make her mark and enter the Trainer Lodge: Leaf. Players will be able to invite Leaf as a guest to the lodge if they've been able to team up with Leaf & Eevee from a Sync Pair scout.

From September 3rd at 11:00pm (PDT), the new Team Rocket Style will be added to the Lodge Exchange. Players can unlock this style by completing the Final Chapter of the Villain Arc.

Changes to Daily Missions
From August 27th at 11:00pm (PDT), the content of Daily Missions is being changed. Starting from this date, completing Daily Missions will allow players to earn Daily Tickets, which can then be exchanged for various items from the Exchange Items menu in the in-game Shop.

Certain previously time-limted content to be relaunched
The Rise to 6★ EX with Rosa! Rally and the Professor Oak & Mew Special Missions were previously time-limited content. As of Version 2.36.0, both of these pieces of content will no longer be time limited. The Rise to 6★ EX with Rosa! Rally will now become available on a regular basis, while the Professor Oak & Mew Special Missions will be changed, with the missions available on a regular basis.

Updates to Professor Oak & Mew
Together with the changes being made for the Professor Oak & Mew Special Missions, the Sync Pair themselves will receive an update, with the items needed to unlock their level caps being changed from custom items to regular items. The existing custom items will continue to function until the Missions are relaunched, after which they will be able to be exchanged for other items.

New BP Voucher Sync Pairs
Updates to Ticket Scouts and BP Sync Pair Vouchers

The majority of regular ticket scouts are being expanded, with additional Sync Pairs being added to their pools. Players will continue to be able to use previously acquired tickets for these scouts. The specific scouts receiving an update are as follows.
  • 5★-Guaranteed Ticket Scout
  • 5★-Guaranteed Unova Ticket Scout
  • 5★-Guaranteed Sinnoh Ticket Scout
  • 5★-Guaranteed Hoenn Ticket Scout
  • 5★-Guaranteed Kalos Ticket Scout
  • 5★-Guaranteed Galar Ticket Scout
From August 27th at 11:00pm (PDT), a set of two 5★ and four 4★ Sync Pairs are being added to the list of pairs available using BP Sync Pair Super Vouchers and BP Sync Pair Vouchers. Again, players continue to be able to use previously acquired vouchers to acquire both existing and new Sync Pairs. Alongside this update, a free BP Sync Pair Super Voucher and a free BP Sync Pair Voucher will be given to all players.

Summary of 4th Anniversary Celebrations
Additional content and sync pairs coming with the conclusion of the
Villain Arc

The Villain Arc is finally reaching its cresendo, with the Prelude to the Final Chapter releasing on August 27th, with the Final Chapter following one week later on September 3rd. Having taken over Team Break, Paulo now leads them in a well-intentioned but destructive campaign against the other villainous teams. With open conflict between the various teams, Pasio's trainers will need to band together to prevent Team Rocket's machinations from coming to fruition. This chapter is a permanent addition to the main story. Players will need to have completed Main Story Chapter 1: The More the Merrier (Normal) in single-player in order to unlock this and other chapters of the Main Story Villain Arc.

A new Special Event, Stop the Evil Mastermind, will run in early September, shortly after the launch of this new story content, to commemorate the final conclusion of the Villain Arc. In addition to this co-op event having several missions for players to complete, an additional Rally will be held with rewards based on the total number of Missions completed by all players.

Five new 5★ sync pairs, including Team Rocket Admins Proton, Petrel, Ariana, and Archer, along with Giovanni and his new sync partner Rhydon, will also be appearing in a special Team Rocket Variety Scout in conjunction with this new story content.

Red & Articuno
Battles enter a new era with new EX role Neo Champion Sync Pairs

Three new Neo Champion Sync Pairs are being added to the game, with each of these Sync Pairs having the capability to unlock an EX Role. The three pairs will each launch in their own Master Fair Scouts. In addition, Special Present! Master Fair scouts reqiring Paid Gems will also be available. Teaming up with the featured Neo Champion Sync Pair from any of these scouts will award the appropriate Roll Cake needed to unlock their EX Role.

Red & Articuno
Red (Champion) & Articuno are an Ice-type Special Strike Sync Pair, whose chilling attacks and skills weaken their opponent's resistance to Ice-type moves. The pair's Passive Skills give them the ability to reduce their opponent's Ice Type Rebuff by one rank the first time each attack is successful, while also increasing their Special Moves ↑ Next effect by one rank for each opponent they hit. In combination with their Blizzard move which hits all opponents, this allows them to increase Special Moves ↑ Next by 3 full ranks, enabling truly shocking amounts of damage to be done. This can then be followed up with their Sync Move, which will attack all opponents with 50% increased damage after the pair is raised to 6★ EX and has their EX Role unlocked.

Red (Champion) & Articuno's Master Fair Scout will begin from August 27th at 11:00pm (PDT), and continue through to October 6th at 10:59pm (PDT).

Leaf & Moltres
Leaf & Moltres

Leaf (Champion) & Moltres are a Fire-type Tech Sync Pair, whose boiling attacks weaken their opponent's resistance to Fire-type Moves along with their general stats. One of the pair's Passive Skills gives them the ability to reduce their opponent's Fire Type Rebuff by one rank the first time they use a Status Move, as well as the first time they use their Sync Move. Another Passive Skill meanwhile improves the effects of Leer, resulting in the move reducing Attack, Sp. Atk, and Sp. Def by one stat rank in addition to the usual reduction to Defense. In combination with their Fiery Wings Flare Blitz Buddy Move, which doubles the amount of lowered stats, they can truly debilitate the opposition. This Buddy Move has an additional effect of making the weather Sunny the first time it is used, setting off yet another Passive Skill, which prevents allies from being inflicted with any status conditions, flinching, becoming confused, or becoming trapped, making them a powerhouse on both attack and defense. It's little wonder with a move like this that their EX Role is Support!

Leaf (Champion) & Moltres' Master Fair Scout will begin from August 29th at 11:00pm (PDT), and continue through to October 6th at 10:59pm (PDT). Players who team up with Leaf (Champion) & Moltres will be able to receive a special Friend Snapshot viewable in the Trainer Lodge.

Blue & Zapdos

Blue & Zapdos
Blue (Champion) & Zapdos are an Electric-type Support Sync Pair, whose shocking attacks weaken their opponent's resistance to Electric-type moves while also buffing allies. Their Glory of Leadership! move allows them to increase the critical-hit rate of all allies by 3 stat ranks, as well as raising the Sp. Atk of all allies proportionately with the amount of Move Gauge slots used, making this a perfect opening move to buff a party built around Special Strike, which just happens to be this pair's EX Role. The pair's Passive Skills also give them the ability to reduce their opponent's Electric Type Rebuff by one rank the first time each attack is successful, with a 30% chance to flinch, while also increasing the Defense and Sp. Def of all allies by one stat rank, as well as applying the Free Move Next effect to themselves. By following up an opening Glory of Leadership! with their Discharge move, which hits all opponents, this means they can quickly apply a whole suite of debuffs and buffs across both parties in a 1-2 opening punch. The pair isn't too bad on the backfoot either, with their Thundering Wings Roost Buddy Move allowing them to restore the HP of all allies by approximately 30% of their maximum HP, as well as removing all status conditions from all allies, and applying the Gradual Healing effect to all allies.

Blue (Champion) & Zapdos' Master Fair Scout will begin from August 31st at 11:00pm (PDT), and continue through to October 6th at 10:59pm (PDT).

Neo Champions: Three Trainers, Three Minds
These first three sync pairs with an EX role will feature in a new event starting August 27th. This story sees Professor Oak, after having observed beginning trainers being depressed following losses in trainer battles, proposing that the next Neo Champions be judged on their leadership and coaching of new trainers. The three veteran trainers from Kanto each participate in this new Neo Champion Stadium to prove themselves as mentors.

More 4th Anniversary Festivities
A variety of events and missions will be running over the coming month as part of the 4th Anniversary celebrations, including the Throwback Challenge Rental Battle Event previewed on Twitter earlier today, as well as a Pasio Special Stadium event where players will face off against Champion Red.

5★-Select Poké Fair Scout x15
5★-Select Poké Fair Scout x25
5★-Select Poké Fair Scouts

From August 27th, a set of 5★-Select Poké Fair Scouts requiring paid gems, including a Scout x15 featuring three Fair-Exclusive Sync Pairs, and a Scout x25 featuring six Fair-Exclusive Sync Pairs, will be available as part of the anniversary celebrations. Both scouts will allow players to select a single Sync Pair to team up with in addition to the other Sync Pairs scouted.

From the same day, players will also be able to work towards earning a Fair-Exclusive 5★-Select Ticket by completing missions relating to the various events running during the anniversary celebrations. This Ticket can then be used in a special Ticket Scout to pair up with one of following three Fair-Exclusive Sync Pairs.
  • N & Zekrom
  • Marnie & Morpeko
  • Raihan & Duraludon
Additionally, a once-per-day x11 Scout guarenteeing one 5★ Sync Pair will also be available. While requiring Paid Gems, players will only need 10 of them for this scout.

Four Year Celebration Sweepstakes
Pokémon Masters EX is currently holding a special sweepstakes, offering players the chance to receive a custom sweatshirt featuring 3 Trainer character designs of their choice from among a collection of designs featuring almost all playable trainers in-game, excluding only Ash, Jessie, James, and the player character. A total of 12 sweatshirts are up for grabs, with 2 sweatshirts being awarded to residents of the United States or Canada (excluding Quebec), and a futher 10 sweatshirts on offer for residents of Japan.

The English rules for the Sweepstakes do not give specific instructions for how players will enter the contest, stating only that players will need to open the Four Year Celebration Sweepstakes news message in-game and then follow the instructions on the entry form after following the campaign link. Clicking this notification will bring the player to a survey website, entering them into the sweepstakes after the requested information has been filled out.

The Japanese side of the contest gives users more involved instructions, requiring players to quote tweet the contest announcement tweet with the names of their 3 desired trainers in a hashtag. The Japanese side of the contest is also awarding an additional amount of bonus diamonds to players as part of this sweepstakes, with 500 diamonds for every 4,000 retweets on the contest tweet up to a maximum of 3,000 diamonds.

Future Updates
The development team are currently working on a range of new and more challenging battle content, including battles which work in a different way from how battles have been implemented in the game up until now. There will also be an expansion of ways for players to upgrade sync pairs.

In addition to these gameplay focused updates, the developers are also working on expanding customization options for players Profiles, as well as adding a Photo feature allowing players to take snapshots of with trainers in various poses.
