Pokémon Masters EX artwork created by ekm, featuring Akari and Rei together with their Pokémon
A new version of Pokémon Masters EX, version 2.37.0, is now available to download. Together with this update, the monthly message from the producers of Pokémon Masters EX has revealed details on the new Skill Gear, and on Akari and Rei, the protagonists of Pokémon Legends: Arceus, who after having first been teased earlier today will make their Sync Pair debuts later this week together with a brand new story event, Together in an Unknown Land. A new Egg Event focused on Normal- and Fairy-type Pokémon is also launching in-game today.

The next letter from the producers is slated to be released in late-September.

Skill Feathers and Skill Gear
Update Summary
The full changelog from the Version 2.37.0 update can be read here. Below, we've summarised some of the biggest changes with this update.

Skill Gear
Changes are being made to how Gear functions in Pokémon Masters EX. This new update reclassifies all Gear in the game to-date as Type Gear, and add a brand new category of Gear, Skill Gear. Skill Gear works together with player's Theme Skills, adding stats and additional effects for Sync Pairs with one of the Gear's theme matches at least one of the Sync Pair's Theme Skills.

Like to Type Gear, Skill Gear can be acquired from various events, and they can also be obtained from the Monthly tab in the Exchange Items menu. Players will need to have completed the Champion Stadium Hard Lv. 1 for any region in order to use Skill Gear, though the Gear and associated items can be acquired even if this has not yet been accomplished.

Unlike Type Gear, Skill Gear cannot be upgraded or have its level cap unlocked. Instead, players will use new Skill Feather items to unlock Skills for each item of gear. These feathers can be acquires from a new Skill Feather Training Area that is being added to the game, or as a reward from various events. The Stats, Themes, and any Additional Effects that are added to each individual item of gear are determined at random, based on the specific kind of Skill Feather used to unlock the Skill Gear. Up to three additional Stats, Themes, and Additional Effects can be added in this way.

Similar to the Lucky Cookies used to teach Lucky Skills to Sync Pairs, when players use a Skill Feather on Skill Gear that already has unlocked Skills, players will be able to choose between new effects that will overwrite existing ones on the gear, or retaining their existing effects. Players can ensure they don't lose unlocked Themes and additional effects by using another new item called a Ever Pin to protect a Theme or additional effect of their choice. Using these items allows players to mix and match aspects of their gear using multiple Skill Feathers. Ever Pins, like Skill Gear, will be obtainable from various events, as well as from the Monthly tab in the Exchange Items menu, however the developer letter has signalled that these items will be somewhat rare.

A special event to mark the arrival of Skill Gear will be held starting September 28th, giving players the opportunity to earn up to three Skill Gear pins, bandannas, and bracelets from daily battles. A log-in bonus will also accompany this event, giving players the chance to acquire up to 20 Skill Feathers.

Trista’s Guide
A brand new Pokémon Masters EX Encyclopedia has been added to Trista’s Guide, serving as a glossery of many familiar Pasio terms like Sync Stone and Sygna Suit. Players can check out this new Encyclopedia by selecting Trista’s Guide under Other in the Poryphone Menu in-game.

Trainer Lodge
From September 30th at 11:00pm (PDT), a new trainer will be eligible to enter the Trainer Lodge. Details on who this new trainer will be have not yet been announced.

Passive Skill Name Changes
A number of passive moves have received new names in this update.
  • Status P-Move: Stat ↑ ➔ Use Status P-Move: Stat ↑
  • Status P-Move: Physical Boost ↑2 ➔ Use Status P-Move: Physical Boost ↑2
  • Hit Paralyzed Opp: Recover HP ➔ Hit Paralyzed Opp: HP Recovery

Akari & Samurott
Hisuian Sync Pairs make their debut this week alongside new Story Event

Akari and Rei will both make their Pokémon Masters EX debuts in separate Poké Fair Scouts later this week, alongside the new Together in an Unknown Land Story Event. Both pairs will launch with the ability to be raised to 6★ EX, and the ability to unlock EX Roles when raised to 6★ EX. Arriving through a space-time rift much like Adaman and Irida did in the Travelers from a Distant Past event earlier this year, the Together in an Unknown Land Story Event sees the two members of the Galaxy Team look to form Sync Pairs on Pasio together with their partners.

Arriving in-game first are Akari & Samurott, whose Poké Fair Scout will begin from September 28th, at 11:00pm (PDT), and continue through to October 18th, at 10:59pm (PDT). Akari & Samurott are a Dark-type Field Role Sync Pair with a Strike EX Role. The first time they enter a battle, their Passive Skills will reduce the Sync Move countdown by one, raise their attack by four stat ranks, raise their critical-hit rate by three stat ranks, and apply the Move Gauge Acceleration effect to the allied field of play, allowing them to rapidly push out strong attacks. They can further boost themselves and their allies with their Mutual Understanding! status move, which turns the field of play into a Dark Zone, as well as increasing an ally's Speed by four stat ranks, and their Physical Moves Next and Special Moves Next effects by two stat ranks each.

Rei & Decidueye
Rei & Decidueye's Poké Fair Scout meanwhile will begin two days later on September 30th, at 11:00pm (PDT), and ends at the same time as Akari & Samurott's scout on October 18th. Rei & Decidueye are a Fighting-type Sprint Role Sync Pair with a Strike EX Role. Like Akari & Samurott, their Passive Skills give them a massive boost on entering battle, reducing the Sync Move countdown by one, and raising their attack by four stat ranks, and their critical-hit rate by three stat ranks. They can further boost themselves with their Our Hearts Are One! Status Move, which boosts their speed by six stat ranks, Physical Moves Next ↑ by two ranks, and applies the Supereffective ↑ Next. The pair can then take advantage of this with their Triple Arrows Barrage Buddy Move, which is unique among other Fighting-type moves currently implemented in the game in that it can hit all opponents. Successful hits with this move will additionally be a critical hit in most cirecumstances, as well as lowing the target's Defense by two stat ranks, and making them flinch.

Welcome Akari and Rei Social Rally
To celebrate the addition of these Hisuian trainers, a special Welcome Akari and Rei Social Rally is being held, giving players the opportunity to earn up to a large quantity of items to power up their sync pairs based on the total number of reports of designated posts across the official Japanese and English Pokémon Masters EX accounts on X (formerly Twitter). These rewards are as follows:
  • 10,000 reposts
    • 5★-Guaranteed Scout Ticket x30
    • 5★ Power-Up Ticket x 50
  • 15,000 reposts
    • Strike Roll Cake Coin x 1
    • Tech Roll Cake Coin x 1
    • Support Roll Cake Coin x 1
    • Sprint Roll Cake Coin x 1
    • Field Roll Cake Coin x 1
    • Champion Spirit x 50

In addition to these in-game rewards, an additional group of winners across the United States, Canada (excluding Quebec), and Japan will each receive a Pokemon Masters EX Wall Scroll, valued at $USD 29.99.
  • 10,000 reposts
    • 5 wall scrolls for winners across the United States and Canada (excluding Quebec)
    • 10 walls scrolls for winners in Japan
  • 15,000 reposts
    • 2 additional wall scrolls for winners across the United States and Canada (excluding Quebec)
    • 5 additional walls scrolls for winners in Japan
As of writing, the English and Japanese posts have already passed 10,000 reposts combined, so players are well on their way to secure all rewards. After the rally is closed to entries on October 3rd, at 7:59pm (PDT), players will need to login to the game between October 6th, at 11:00pm (PDT), and November 6th, at 9:59pm (PST) in order to receive their rewards, with gifts being sent immediately to the player's Present Box in-game on logging-in.

3,000 Gem Gift for all Players
Back at the end of August, as part of the Four Year Celebration Sweepstakes, the official Japanese account on X for Pokémon Masters offered players the opportunity to earn up to 3,000 Gems for hitting a specific repost target on the content announcement post. With players having handily reaching the repost target, this reward is now being distributed to players worldwide. All players who to login to the game between September 28th, at 11:00pm (PDT), and October 28th, at 10:59pm (PDT), will receive the full 3,000 gems, with this gift being sent immediately to the player's Present Box in-game on logging-in. To claim this present, players must have completed Main Story Chapter 1: The More the Merrier (Normal) in single-player.

Igglybuff, Tauros, Lickitung, Cleffa, and Kangaskhan
Normal- and Fairy-type Egg Event

In this event, players will be able to receive Eggs from Professor Bellis that will hatch into one of a selection of Normal-, and Fairy-type Pokémon. The Pokémon that can hatch from these events include Tauros, Kangaskhan, Lickitung, Cleffa, and Igglybuff, with all five of these having the possibility of being Shiny. This event is available in-game now, and will continue through to October 10th, at 10:59pm (PDT). During this time, players will only receive eggs by completing missions from this Egg event and will not receive Eggs for completing other areas.

One limited-time incubator will also be added to Bellis's Lab for the duration of this event. If an Egg is still in the limited-time incubator when the event ends, the limited-time incubator will remain active until that Egg hatches. This incubator will assist Players in unlocking rewards from event missions to hatch certain numbers of eggs.

As usual for events of this type, several special missions will be available during the event period. Players will have an increased chance of receiving Eggs if they take on event battles using teams that feature specific sync pairs. The more of these sync pairs are placed in the lineup, the higher the Egg reward rate will be. The applicable Sync Pairs and Egg reward rates are as follows:
  • Normal- and Fairy- Main Character sync pairs: +80% (×1.8) Egg Reward Rate
  • Main Character sync pairs: +40% (×1.4) Egg Reward Rate
  • Other Normal- and Fairy- sync pairs: +20% Egg Reward Rate (×1.2)
These bonuses stack additively, so having a one Main Character Normal- and Fairy--type sync pair, and two Normal- and Fairy-type sync pairs would give a combined bonus of 120% (x2.2)

Players should also note the following when playing this event:
  • To participate, players must have completed Main Story Chapter 1: The More the Merrier (Normal) in single-player.
  • The sync pairs that appear as opponents in battle have different capabilities than those players can actually obtain.
  • All mission completion rewards must be claimed within three days of the mission period ending.
  • Players cannot receive Eggs from Professor Bellis by completing areas outside of this event during this event period.
Other upcoming events and future updates
In addition to the information about the Story Event accompanying Akari and Rei's debut, the developer letter also highlighted some additional content coming to the game in the coming months.

New Trainer Files Event
Following on from the recent Story Event starring Palmer and Argenta, a new Trainer Files event will start on October 4th, starting Factory Heads Thorton and Noland. No further information about this event has been given at this time.

Other events coming in October
The following events are also scheduled to run from Mid-October onwards. As of writing, no specific dates or details have been given about these events.
  • New Seasonal Story Event
  • New Legendary Arena battle
  • New Legendary Gauntlet
  • Reruns of the Unova Chapter Villain Events
New High Score Event
The game's next High Score Event, focusing on trainers weak to Fire-type Sync Pairs, will start alongside the next app update.

New battle content
As mentioned in the previous developer letter, the development team are currently working on a range of new and more challenging battle content. Today's letter gives some additional minor information about some of these plans, highlighting a specific set of tough challenge battles to surpass the highest difficulty battles in the game thusfar. While following the standard format, these battles are said to be difficult to win without maximizing the potential of one's Sync Pairs. No exclusive rewards are planned for completing these however, so it appears these will mostly be for bragging rights.
