In the World of Pokémon, there lives a vast number and variety of amazing creatures to befriend and collect.
Every week, we will be focusing on a single one of these Pokémon or evolutionary line and talking about what makes it special. This week's Pokémon of choice is…
Mew, the New Species Pokémon!
Introduced in the Red / Green / Blue games, this elusive Pokémon had quickly become a limitless source of myths and rumors back in those days — namely the (in)famous “Mew Under the Truck” rumor — among the very first fans… which is all pretty fitting for a Mythical Pokémon.
There are countless ways to get Mew in the games, however: you can get it by exploiting glitches in the Game Boy games, by obtaining an Old Sea Map with the directions for Faraway Island in Emerald, by trading a Pokémon for a Mew in My Pokémon Ranch or by getting the pink cat directly through events endorsed by Nintendo / Game Freak.
Believed by many to be the ancestor of all Pokémon and a talented shapeshifter, this psychic cat can have access to every single TM, HM and Tutor Move, aside of the group-exclusive ones (like Draco Meteor, Frenzy Plant, Blast Burn and Hydro Cannon). Among other moves it has access to there are Transform, Baton Pass, Nasty Plot, Aura Sphere, Reflect Type, and many more options, including its exclusive Z-Move Genesis Supernova.
Mew is no slouch in terms of offensive and defensive prowess either, as it has well-rounded 100-stats which allow it to be tailored to fit whatever role the team may need, like stat boost Baton Passer, defensive status spreader with Will-O-Wisp and Synchronize, or Psychic Terrain setter with its Z-Crystal. All these traits turn Mew into one of the most versatile Pokémon to date.
In terms of portrayals in other media, Mew has been featured many times in the anime. It was one of the main protagonists in “Mewtwo Strikes Back” and in “Lucario and the Mystery of Mew”, as well as an important supporting character in the special episode “The Mastermind of Mirage Pokémon”. It also got brief cameos in the Sun / Moon episode “Alola, Kanto!” and in the Pokémon Origins’s episode “File 4: Charizard”.
And now, here are some questions to consider to get conversation rolling. You don't have to answer all of them or any of them in your post as long as you're staying on topic and within global forum rules.
Thank you to @CrystaI for suggesting this Pokémon of the Week!
