"Okay then. Camille, would you please? I need to talk with him." Victoria said, pulling Calvin aside.

"Is something the matter?" Calvin asked.

"Well, Annie and that one boy seem really close, more so than 3-year-olds should be." Victoria said in a hushed tone. "They've been holding hands and whatnot the whole time, and he seems have the idea that he's her keeper."

"Keeper?" Calvin parroted. "Yeah, I get it. He's been all defensive of her, and I think I saw him eyeballing me a few times."

"Yep. He even went so far as to try and defend her from me when I came in." Victoria said. "He's not that protective of the other kids."

"Yeah, I remember Maya telling me something about a genetic trait in birds that chooses predestined mates. Age doesn't matter, either."

"Really?"

"Yeah, and I've been watching him. I'm waiting for the kid to overstep some boundaries. I don't care who he is, he won't like me if he acts the wrong way towards my daughter."

"...Annie, head count, please." Camille said, pulling out bread and peanut butter.

"There's..... 18 of us." Sammy raised a brow at her questioningly. "Plus me." She added ruefully.

"Thank you." Within seconds she had the first one done. "Alright, who's first?"

Annie and Sammy looked at eachother, and, seeming to reach a decision, led a tiny, malnourished, Asian-looking girl who couldn't be more than two up to Camille. "This is Wendy," Annie supplied, "Say hello, Wendy."

"He'o." She lisped, peering shyly up with two almond-shaped hazel eyes.

"Hello, Wendy." Camille said, kneeling down and handing her the sandwich. She was horrified that a two-year-old could be that small, and she probably weighed as much as the loaf of bread she was using.

"You're welcome. Please go sit down." Camille said, having another sandwich ready in seconds. "Next."

And so it went, until all the children had a sandwich. They spread-out through the kitchen, enjoying their sammies and talking quietly.

"Whew, that took too long." Camille groaned, putting the remaining bread away and sitting down. "I'm tired."

"Don't worry about it, kids. Aunt Camille just needs some rest, and/or the right person to come through the door." Camille said tiredly.

"There were more than we expected, but it's good." Camille said. "You just get back?"

"Yep."

Sammy sent Annie a questioning glance, and she smiled reassuringly.

"Nope."

Wendy toddled-over to Sammy and Annie, the latter of whom picked her up.
