He found himself in a huge meadow, like the one behind the house times twelve. He was all-alone, and there was no sound. Just then, a figure appeared on the horizon, running towards him. It appeared to be a young boy, a little smaller than Annie.
And the boy, as he got closer, appeared to look so much like him that Calvin wondered if he was seeing a younger him. Then the kid stopped in front of him and looked-up with a wide smile.
And Calvin's heart lept into his throat, and he knew exactly who he was looking-at.
Because the little-boy, who looked so much like him, had Maya's eyes.
Calvin honestly had no idea what to say at that moment. Then again, who would if they were looking at someone they knew was dead? He swallowed his heart and took a deep breath, trying to keep his composure.
"Hi, Gabriel." He eventually managed, his voice sounding so strained that he forced back a grimace.
He tilted his head to the side in confusion, something Calvin had seen Maya and Annie do many times. He reached-up and patted Calvin's knee, which was the highest he could reach. "Don't be upset. I've been here the whole time. This is just the first time you've seen me."
Gabe didn't look convinced. "It's okay. You're smart to be scared. You're alive, I'm not. Technically, I shouldn't be talking to you, or letting you see me. We're just supposed to watch. So I'm breaking the rules here. But you need me."
"I'm not supposed-to. But I can. The whitecoats know about the breakout. And they're pretty-sure Mama has something to do with it. They're gonna try to take her. In-fact," He paused, "They're in Castelia now. Heading for the house." He smiled wryly. "Guess you wanna go now, huh?
