Vanessa stepped up onto stage, pulling up a mike for Nathan as they set up shop, and she whispered the song to him: the Across the Universe version of the Beatles' "I Have Just Seen a Face".
Nathan nodded and pulled his guitar off of his back. He knew the song luckily and began to play the guitar part while taking the lower part of the harmony.
Vaness took the cue and breathed out one last time before singing with all of her soul with slightly doctored lyrics:
"I've just seen a face, I can't forget the time or place where we just met. He's just the boy for me, and I want all the world to see we've met, mmm-mmm-mmm-m'mmm-mmm....
Had it been another day, I might have looked the other way, and I'd have never been aware, but as it is I'll dream of him tonight, di-di-di-di'n'di
Falling, yes I am falling, and he keeps calling me back again."
Nathan's only thought as he made beautiful music with Vanessa was a prayer that he was the boy that she was singing about or that he could become that boy. As Nathan joined in on cue, he swore to himself that he'd tell Vanessa how he felt by the end of the night.
Vanessa quickly recovered her breath and resumed for Verse 2:
"I have never known the like of this, I've been alone, and I have missed things, and kept out of sight, but other boys were never quite like this, mmm-mmm-mmm-m'mmm-mmm...
Falling, yes I am falling, and he keeps calling me back again."
Nathan focused on hitting every sublime note in his guitar solo. However, he took a moment to turn to Vanessa and smile at her. He was trying to show how much he cared about her with one look.
Nathan held the last note of the song for a few tantalizing moments before letting the end of the song trail off into the night. "That was amazing." He told Vanessa softly before strapping the guitar back onto his back and holding out his hand. "Would you like to dance?" He asked her eagerly.
Nathan smiled and led Vanessa out onto the dance floor. When they got there, he wrapped his arms gently around her waist. "Vanessa, there's something I need to tell you." He said softly. "Since the day I met you, I realized that you were special." He started off. "And even though I've only known you for a short time... I've fallen for you. Hard." Nathan admitted truthfully. "I want to be with you so bad that sometimes it hurts... basically what I'm saying is... will you go out with me?"
Nicole looked over at DJ dancing with Jane and nodded at Jamie.
"Yeah, let's go dance. We can't let your brothers have all the fun" she smiled, dragging him onto the dancefloor by his arm and winding along to the music.
"I shouldn't have admitted that..." Nathan muttered to himself. "Now this is going to be so awkward... god damn I'm an idiot." He was beating himself up over being so foolish and then he realized that she had nodded. "Wait, you will?" Nathan asked quietly. "Awesome." He smiled brightly. "That's a relief."
