In a story we ironically almost missed because we slept in, Pokémon Sleep, the upcoming spin-off Pokémon game developed for iOS and Android, is receiving a special open beta test this week for Android users in Argentina, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. The open beta is available to download right now, and will run through to July 13th, at midnight (UTC).

Please note that players who have pre-registered for Pokémon Sleep will not download the open beta automatically. Fans must manually sign up to the open beta via http://pkmn.news/SleepOpenBeta, after which they will be able to download the open beta via Google Play.

Pokémon Sleep features Snorlax as its central Pokémon, with other Pokémon appearing around Snorlax based on the player's sleeping pattern and sleeping style. Players will work together with the Pokémon sleep researcher Professor Neroli to research Pokémon sleep styles, and record them in the Sleep Style Dex. Starting Monday every week, players will begin a new round of sleep research with a new location and a new Snorlax. A new trailer released late last week, showing off the core gameplay. For more information on the gameplay, please refer to our coverage of the new trailer from last week.
