Pokémon Sword and Shield anime speculation thread

The problem is not, that they are too sexy, but that most of the girls have a similar design. Besides Lana and Bonnie, all of the girl protagonists has the exact same design. Especially if you compare them to the boys. Which is the reason why characters like Nessa and Bea would be a bit refreshing? Nessa is this really tall, attractive looking black woman and Bea has really big feet and a very muscular build for a girl. They would be visual very pleasing for me.

The problem for me is not the eye-candy bonus, but that female girl protagonists are just too similar to each other.

So... in other words, I should ignore her skin color and imagine she is white? Is that the case? Social justice is a way too complicated for me... I mean, Nessa like Iris and Olivia has a darker skin tone, they are black, or African, or African-American whatever.

I have no idea how you came to that conclusion. Nobody here said that you should act like she's "white". The problem is that you're correlating the fact that she's "black" with her being a femme fatale, when that isn't the case, since skin color (generally) has nothing to do with a character's personality. Even the fact that her design looks marvellous and that a lot of fans have fallen in love with her doesn't automatically make her a femme fatale; that just makes her a waifu, which is different from the archetype you keep bringing up.

Not sure if this is what they meant, but what I got from the others is that it didn't make sense that you were bringing up her skin color (and only hers) when talking about the characters' personalities, which doesn't make sense since skin doesn't equal character. Which, if you think about it, isn't that the point of social justice? To judge someone (be it a person or a character) on their merits, on their actions, on their personality and character and not on their skin tone? That you should see someone as more than just a label?

Now, let's talk about something else. I do agree that the past companion groups have been similar and this anime needs to freshen up.

That just sounds like an alternate way to sexualizing characters.
Aren't many female characters in the series already so?

Good idea. First, let see what Gym Leader Type Ash has had in the past so far... Brock and Onix (Rock), Misty and Psyduck (Water), Iris and Axel (Dragon), Cilan and Pampur (Grass), Clemont and Luxray (Electric). It might be interesting to have Bea with her Hitmontop (Fighting), and having another Gym Leader of another type yet revealed.

I really don't see how the girls look that similar, let alone have the same exact design. They don't have drastically different body shapes, but I don't think that they look that much alike. I'm not going to mix up Misty with Iris or Serena for example. I'm not sure if the male characters have that much different designs by comparison either, at least body shape wise. Aside from Sophocles and Max, all of the male characters have been relatively tall and/or thin.

Does Bea have really big feet? I thought she was just barefoot in the trailer and she doesn't look that muscular for a girl. She's tall and thin, but I didn't seem to notice a noticeable muscular build for her. I'm not sure how being visually pleasing is any different from eye candy or being traditionally feminine, especially when your descriptions do come off as fetishizing them.

You know what
Brock and Misty (Rock and Water).
Iris and Cilan (Dragon and Grass)
Clemont (Electric)

So if we get a Fire or Normal specialist, those might become his travel companions, since then he has travelled with a trainer that has a starter type (I count Electric and Normal as well now we have 2 main series games where Eevee and Pikachu are starters). And yes, while Kiawe is a Fire specialist, i don't count him as a travel companion, but more as a classmate.

To date, there are 12 out of 18 types that we have not seen a type specialist of on the main cast (11, if Lillie counts as a Fairy specialist).

Gym Leader, Student

Rock Type - Brock
Water Type - Misty, Lana
Dragon Type - Iris
Grass Type - Cilan, Mallow
Electric Type - Clemont, Sophocles
Fire Type - Kiawe

There are 5 Type Experts that are Gym Leaders (6 if counting Kiawe), so that makes 13 other types that haven't accompanied Ash... Fairy, Fighting, Ghost, Normal, Dark, Steel, Ground, Ice, Flying, Psychic, Poison, Bug and Fire

Hmm, I am wondering how Ash is going to be introduced to Galar for this new anime season. Some new regions he just goes, and sometimes he actually learns about the region before going, like how Alexa told him about Kalos while he was traveling through the Decolore Islands.

A cool idea I had would have someone from someone who works for the Galar League coming to watch the Alola League, since this is Alola's first League. They see Ash and his excitement and potential for battling and after the league suggest that he go to Galar and take on the gym challenge there. Perhaps they even hand him the letter of endorsement that he needs to take on the gym challenge right then and there, though the simple suggestion would work well too. I think it would be a great way to introduce Ash and the audience to the Galar region. Hey, the person from the league could even have a couple of Galar Pokemon with him. Ash could even have to spend a little bit of time deciding, and then, in the end, he decides to travel to Galar.

That's just an idea I had though, I have no idea if they are just going to shove him in there, or come up with some way for Ash to know about Galar beforehand.

Similar idea to how Chairman Rose could make an appearance. Also, whenever Ash learns about the new region, it seems to occur on the newest console based Gen games...

Original Series (GB/GBC): Hoenn mentioned and ends with a cliffhanger. (transitioning from GB/GBC to GBA)
Advanced Series (GBA): Sinnoh mentioned and ends with a cliffhanger. (transitioning from GBA to DS)
Diamond and Pearl Series (DS): Ash just returns to Pallet Town.
Black and White Series (DS): Kalos mentioned and ends with a cliffhanger. (transitioning from DS to 3DS)
X and Y Series (3DS): Ash just returns to Pallet Town.

You realise that Diamond and Pearl with Black and White are on the same console of the DS, hence why no mention and cliffhanger to next region. Same is true with X and Y with Sun and Moon on the 3DS. So it is possible that they would once more go with the formula of Galar being mentioned and the series ending on a cliffhanger, transitioning from the 3DS to the Switch.

This is the hundredth time you posted this same argument, and you still didn't give any reason or explanation for the supposed existence of this formula. You also still don't count Game Boy Color as a different console, with no explanation.

I hope all the starters final forms get a fair amount of screentime. I feel really bad for Decidueye.

I never would have expected that Decidueye would have the least amount of screentime among the final forms of the Alola starters. It certainly doesn't have the worst treatment compared to starters like Typhlosion, but it would have been nice to showcase more of the Rowlet line throughout SM. This also could have been easily fixed if Hau was introduced much earlier in the series as opposed to appearing only once prior to the Alola League.

I think Leon's the one who'll give Ash his endorsement, like the games. Chairman Rose will be introduced later imo.

Yeah, that seems much more likely to me. While the idea of Chairman Rose appearing in the Alola League would kind of make sense, I also think that they would have hinted at him watching the Alola League by now, especially when he was revealed before the Alola League arc started. It still wouldn't be impossible for that to happen, but I think it makes more sense for Leon to give Ash his endorsement to match with how the playable trainers start their journeys in the games.

It really depends on which starter form is the more popular one and the most marketable. They pushed, for example, Greninja the most because it was the most popular one of the three X&Y starters. And they didn't push Decidueye at all, because it was the least popular of the final forms of the S&M starters, while Rowlet was the most popular basis form of them, which is the reason in S&M Rowl never envolved.

But from what I have seen on the internet I'm almost sure that Scobble seems to be the most popular of the three new starters, with Scorbunny been second closed. Grookey will most likely be the one leats used since it isn't as popular, especially if the rumors are true and it will evolve into a gorilla. Gorillas are not something that can be market towards young children.

It always depends on popularity and marketability. Which is the reason I'm almost 100% sure that one character, most likely the new girl, will get Wooloo in her team.

I am only basing this anime-wise. Also, Johto is part of the Original Series, and Johto is mentioned and the Kanto/Orange Island side ends in a cliffhanger. The Johto part is far too complex for any of us to explain compaired with the other arcs. I suppose GBC is the equivilant to DSi or the New 3DS lines, only they had less exclusive games for them. Plus GB does gives color to the old GB games.

They'll probably make it of Ash returning to Pallet Town, making it self containing since XY didn't do well, and are trying to make something refreshing and new.
