Pokémon Sword and Shield anime speculation thread

"The anime series started in 1997 is the 23rd year this year, and has been broadcast more than 1000 times! The title of the work has changed several times so far, but the title of the new series will be reborn as a new title since the start of "Pocket Monster"! "

This Google translation does have some mistakes but I think the last phrase (the most important one) is mostly right, if worded badly. I'm just not sure if by "title" they mean only the title itself ("Pocket Monsters Sun and Moon" for eg) or the whole show. The way it's worded looks like an entire new show indeed, being it a reboot or an AU.

That isn't saying much because a reboot means a different character or continuity, in this context at least.

Pretty much. If it's a reboot, it'd basically be Ash in name only. Not the same character we've been following from Kanto all the way through Alola.

If I had to choose between us getting a 'rebooted' Ash or a completely new lead character, I'd probably take the rebooted Ash simply because it wouldn't be that different from what we've dealt with so far given how the writers have hardly cared all that much about continuity with regards to Ash in the past. So it'd just be more of the same really.

It's not even rumors, it was officially revealed alongside the July 8th trailer that the E4 is replaced by anime-esque tournament in Galar
That doesn't say anything about a total removal of the E4. If anything, they're adopting the anime format (League Conference + Champion League) for the games.

Funny how Alola has no official gyms but an Elite 4, yet Galar lacks an Elite 4 but has official gyms. Why can't we just have both again, Gamefreak?

Between an AU ash and a new character, I'd take the new character because it would at least mean that our ash could come back one day, maybe just for the occasional cameo or series, maybe grown up, but we would at least be able to have bits of his future and he would exist in the continuity.
Perhaps have a character starting his journey in the Galar Region before making his way throughout the other 7, with Kalos being his next stop after Galar.

So you'd rather have Ash leave even though you admit that he might still come back in the future? I don't really get it; if he might return eventually anyways then why not just keep him as the main character in the first place?

Imo if he does leave it should be permanent because I don't see what the point of ending his story would be if it isn't really an ending for him.

I'd rather he'd not leave at all, but an AU ash it's not him. So, between those two choices, I'd take the one that doesn't cancel this ash from continuity. Also it might allow him to grow up, which is something I'd like to see.

It's possible that Galar's love for the spectacle that is the Pokemon League and Ash's still unconfirmed triumph on the Alola League hay have caused in the writers the idea of a full series where he competes on a multiregional league (either Galar's or the Champions League). But it's also possible that the writers think that "1997 Ash" has overstayed his welcome and that kids will like him better if their see his beginning and his progression through multiple regions. And sadly the logo seems to hint more towards the latter...

So this will either be a series filled with fanservice or a reboot that will make half of the fanbase angry because we didn't get a proper sendoff to "1997 Ash". There's a third option through, in which each region will have it's own protagonists and story and they will eventually collide kinda like M21, but it seems unlikely.

Anyway, I'm positive that the dub will give it it's own subtitle too, through there's a chance they won't with the first seasons having their own names on different platforms.

I'm more hoping that they start the series in Galar. If they leave it till last, then it'll be too late.

Is it safe to say whether Ash is in the Next Series or not, they will pull off a BW and regress him? Using the OG Title screams reboot and the Trivia tweet, the way they worded it.

I think that depends on where his story starts. If they are truly starting from square one, then yeah a regression will happen. But if this series is based on the Master League, then I don't think they will regress him in terms of battle competence.

So... I guess this is how it ends, huh? Fine. You win. You're wiping out an entire franchise by denying one Generation to shine... but, hey... you'll be rich. Congratulations, Masters. Guess you will be able to swindle a pod of Whales with your limited edition Kommo-o cosplaying Cynthia. And, the anime, you can focus all of your attentions on all 7 regions and yet can care less of Galar. And of course Town, I'm sure once your released Game Freak and Nintendo is going to be very proud of you. Eventually sporning a new franchise that will eventually topple your old creation to dust. But that's what it's all about, right?... Money.

A word play from what Milo said in ''Disney's Atlantis the Lost Empire''

Not to sound like an ass, making money is the bottomline for any big corporation.

Pokemon isn't a mom and pops store.

I heard someone quoted this saying.

1st movie = Let's make a movie
2nd movie = Let's make money

For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have errored and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

True, depressing but true. Especially the sorrow part.
