Pokémon Sword and Shield anime speculation thread

I don't like the idea of experimentation just for the sake of experimentation. At the moment, this series sounds like it'll be similar to Generations and since I didn't really like those mini episodes, I'm not looking forward to the possibility of getting a full series of that for 3 years or however long Gen 8 lasts.

Tbh this series sounds like something that we probably should've gotten around the time that the Sun and Moon games were released since something like this would've worked so much better as a way to celebrate the franchise's 20th birthday back in 2016. So I'm surprised that they waited this long to do a retelling of all regions.

After much thinking over the past few days here is a summary of my thoughts. The Pokémon Anime was never faithful to the games instead loosely based on which isn't a bad thing at all but this reboot in my opinion is really a good opportunity to give Regions better representation than they got in the Previous Anime Series. For example, Kanto was aim-to-the-horn, Johto was just largely filler, Hoenn did terrible with Aqua and Magma and was largely forgettable aside from the Battle Frontier, Sinnoh was great, but maybe in this so called "retelling" they can cover the Sinnoh Battle Frontier, Unova missed Hugh as a Rival and much more, Kalos skipped the Emotional AZ Storyline, Alola had mostly a degraded version of the Aether Foundation ( still better than USUM and the Manga ). All I'm saying is this Reboot, if done well, in the 140 Episodes time frame they have has so much potential with the AU Ash journeying all the way from Kanto-Galar. The Pokemon Anime is a great series but also a series with not really errors but missed opportunities. This idea isn't a bad thing, it will limit Filler ( hopefully) but the only thing that is concerning to me is the pacing.

and Galar, which is supposed to be promoted for Sword and Shield.

This is what I mean by "retelling". Yes, it would have to be like the movies and an alternate version of Ash. I don't feel it needs to be sequential, although if it is, why would they make us wait the entire generation to get to the current generation? By then, they're promoting the next generation already, so it would be pointless. I think we're only seeing small snippets of each region at a time. One day, we're in one region, and the next, we're in another.

Yeah, doubt it, since that will be hella confusing for kids.

Still have the feeling Galar is the main anime and the other seven regions are a specials arc (Ten episodes per region with in every region a different protag), but the characters from the other regions, are gonna all appear in Galar eventually, tying everything together.

I don't know if it's a good idea to take a break from the main character every now and then, for about half of the show. The Chronicles episodes aired in a different time slot (instead of old episodes). I was in favor of a separate series, but alas.

Ash could definitely meet characters in old regions that would eventually come to Galar.

There's no way it can't be confusing, unless what we see from none of them really means much, just a random thing having to with pokemon in some way. Like a longer version of Generations. Otherwise, it'd be like trying to ask a kid to keep up with Game of Thrones. I know that is not possible.

a Nintendo Direct is showing Sword and Shield tomorrow 10PM GMT, perhaps we'll get some more news on that.

They better show off Galar first for the new Anime series, because that'll be an opportunity gone down the drain. Wayda go of sabotaging so many potentials.

But this year is different. Nostalgia is being used for the wrong reasons to tickle you in order to get money out of you, when money shouldn't be the focus for Nostalgia.

As of right now, with how Star Wars and many other media brands have handled Nostalgia, it has turned from something timeless into something outdated and lazy. It was fun for a little while, but now, Nostalgia has just outstayed it's welcome.
Finally. We have have intellect here. :)

Still worrying in the case you have only 70 Episodes to develop the Main Cast. Also if Galar was the Main Anime, I still think it would be "Pocket Monster: Sword and Shield" not just "Pocket Monster" which must have a meaning behind it. Of course "XY" never had any relevance whatsoever in the Gen 6 Anime, but this is more big in the case they have stressed that the Title is being reborn as the Original.

You all hate on Ash but he's done so much for his friends and Pokemon and the world. Heck he's been acknowledged by many important characters. Ash is special to me and that won't change. Besides Pilachu needs a reason to stick around.

For the past few generations, the anime has lasted for about 140 episodes. (maybe a bit more, but around there). Evenly distributed, 8 regions is 17.5 episodes apiece.

Am I the only one sane enough here to not believe this whole "They're doing a Pokémon Master anime to replace the old one! AHHHHH!" nonsense? 'Cause, all of a sudden, it really feels like the forums have been overtaken by way to much negative hysteria.

Let's all just take a long breath and look at an undeniable fact. The fact that they've never done a full-fledged anime series for any of the other spin-off games. Not for the Stadium games or Colosseum and XD, which were quite popular. Not for Detective Pikachu, an easy-to-adapt story driven game that was gaining a lot of attention. Not for the Ranger games or the Mystery Dungeons ones or Pokémon Snap, with the closest we've ever gotten to something like an anime series based on these games being a few specials based on some these games or characters form them appearing in the main anime.

Not even Pokémon GO received this kind of (hypothetical) attention. And that game was arguably the biggest Pokémon event of Gen 7, which continues to make millions of dollars to this day, with many considering it to be the start of Pokémania 2.0. Heck, in fact, nothing form GO has even been referenced or adapted in the anime.

So why would they suddenly decide to base an entire series on a recent mobile game (one that wasn't even released at the time they were working on this new series)?
^^

So... I guess this is how it ends, huh? Fine. You win. You're wiping out an entire franchise by denying one Generation to shine... but, hey... you'll be rich. Congratulations, Masters. Guess you will be able to swindle a pod of Whales with your limited edition Kommo-o cosplaying Cynthia. And, the anime, you can focus all of your attentions on all 7 regions and yet can care less of Galar. And of course Town, I'm sure once your released Game Freak and Nintendo is going to be very proud of you. Eventually sporning a new franchise that will eventually topple your old creation to dust. But that's what it's all about, right?... Money.

A word play from what Milo said in ''Disney's Atlantis the Lost Empire''
Im willing to kill myself over this.

The guys theory makes sense, but why not create a completely new title?

Nostalgia. That's why.

But then, if Black and White was called Best Wishes in Japanese, then surely they would do similar in the dub by calling this new series Sword and Shield.

I haven't see in it but before I watch it'll probably be a wishlist with the typical fan service bs. I hope to be proven wrong, anyway I'll watch it now.
Yeah same thing we have seen everybody saying before, nothing really special. Jarring Transistions and poor continuity makes this an almost impossible thing to even happen. 20 Charcters to toss and reintroduce is too much. We've also seen this "All-Star" speculation multiple times, this will be another time it will be proven wrong.

Well, it isn't really nostalgia since they are using the AU movie version of the title.
It depends on the context, if this is the AU Ash's Story then not really. If this is referring to previous companions returning then yeah this definitely is Nostalgia.

The dub is lazy, unoriginal, atrocious, and the definition of bad. They'll just call it SwSh because they can't find anything more creative.
