to who remember the Pokemon League Entrance Exam and Pokemon Tech

to those who don't allow me to post this is from the wiki

Additionally in special cases, Badges may not be required to enter the Pokémon League. Pokémon Tech, a boarding school for Pokémon Trainers, is an expensive school for children, where moving up a grade is the equivalent of winning two Gym Badges. Upon graduation, students may immediately apply for entry in the Pokémon League. Alternatively, Trainers can take the Pokémon League Admissions Exam, which awards a single Badge that grants entry to the Pokémon League on its own; it is convenient for people whose age, health, or work keeps them from traveling around to collect Badges.

remembering these two episodes has got me thinking does Pokemon Tech have schools in Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova and Kalos?, can you also take the admissions exam in them as well?

what do you think?

I'd say that there are many ways to do things as the anime has shown, but the requiring badges part no longer applies. One doesn't need to be an expert trainer, just to be able to work with pokemon.

No. The OS was still trying to figure out the "rules" of the anime universe and would occasionally experiment and throw in stuff like that, but it isn't really relevant to the anime as it exists now. Good thing too - that Admissions exam was a fucking travesty.

Interesting question to which only writers and directors have answer. In case they even remember what kind of rules they established back in early days of pokemon. If im not mistaken episodes in question were "School of Hard Knocks!" and "Ultimate Test!" which established alternate ways for trainers to enter pokemon league.

What from combination of exams, battling tests and classes where you demonstrate knowledge about pokemon types and habits with those who graduate being certified as capable trainers for pokemon league.

Or as another episode introduced something similar to state exam required to pass in order to get job license depending on what kind of profession you follow. Introducing exams and test of your battling skills on battle grounds with score determining if you are worthy enough to get ticket and go directly to league.

Which in retrospect was solid idea and made sense because not every person which aspires to compete in league can travel and collect badges whether its due to health problems, old age, another job they must take care of etc. It was actually fairly realistic idea and nice alternative showing there is more than one way someone can reach its aims.

Now does every region aside from Kanto have such exams and outlets through which people can qualify for biggest tournament of every region?
Possibility is there with lack of any mention ever since Kanto being realistically attributed to no real need and demand existing to continue demonstrating and exploring other routes through which trainers could be taken. Since its of no benefit and importance for Ash and his traveling companions journey and development with further callbacks to such tests becoming redundant and deterring from objective story tries to reach.

After all if some other anime liberties differing from games are still in effect like having per region more than 8 gym leaders with there existing plenty of anime exclusive gyms not just with Gary in Kanto, but every other region afterwards through likes of Morrison, Barry, Paul, Cameron etc. Than there certainly exists possibility of other things introduced in earlier seasons like Kanto still applying to rest of sagas.

However one could say how this exams and techs could also be one time thing emerging on surface during times pokemon anime was very young with production staff experimenting with all kind of ideas in trying to figure out direction in which this show should be taken.
Afterwards stopping to be canon and applicable to pokemon universe.

Interestingly enough this doubts and experiments were present not just for first but pretty much all seasons of OS (Johto included) with lack of communication and agreements between director and writers as Takeshi Shudo blogs revealed contributing to that.

That said in all fairness we still cannot rule out chance how alternate routes to enter pokemon league still could apply for this timeline and continuity. Despite being very old and never brought up again.

Because until writers contradict what they established as canon in previous sagas through something else.
In other words as long writers don't cancel out actions of past series through new plots rewriting history, events of previous sagas are still well something which can be arguably considered canon.

In general its usually not good thing to mess up with canon and continuity.
Because constantly playing with what was established as factual in series changing it randomly and relatively often only defeats point which anime tried to accomplish within storyline you as writer introduced in first place. Destroying plot, dropping in water accumulated knowledge and experience with show starting to look like joke, with no importance or identity.

This is a filler episode I really like. I loved those alternative ways of competing in the league other than questing for badges.
I wish they've done more of this in the newer series, but since they were all from Kanto era...

Anyway now for canon, I don't think we should take these kind of ways seriously anymore. Pokemon Seminar and the League Certification Test were elements from filler episodes and, mind I say, pretty forgotten ones since none of these were mentioned afterwards (except the latter with Tohru's presence being highlighted when he returned in Jouto).

Between Pokémon Tech, that exam, and the garden where Bulbasaur gather to evolve, there's plenty of strange stuff from the first season that we can harmless dismiss as Early Installment Weirdness. It's all just experimentation from the writers.
