While not as popular as the mainstream Pokemon games in the 1990s, this little diamond in the rough has its own little following. It's just about the next best thing for those who didn't want to shell out two-hundred bucks for a Base Set Charizard.

I've been playing it a lot recently, and it's proved to be just as addicting as it was long ago. I currently have over 297 hours of playtime, with all 8 Master Medals and all 226 cards. My main Deck is a Fire/Lightning Haymaker featuring Scyther, Electabuzz, and Fossil Magmar.

Have you played this? How many Master Medals did you manage to get? What awesome Decks did you come up with? Is anyone else having trouble getting the 8-bit music out of their heads?

(For those of you in Europe/Australia, know that I'm very envious that you have this on 3DS Virtual Console.)

I got this game as a kid, and I played it on and off for a couple of years, but I never beat it.
Then one day last year I decided that enough was enough and I sat down and beat it!

I think it is a really fun game, and I wish that they had more of them. Playing the card game in a video game allows people who can't afford to get cards to be able to play the TCG. I do remember the music being stuck in my head for a while as well!

I liked it. I can't imagine playing it for as long as you have, though - I remember the card selection being limited when compared to the then current real world releases (sans some promos), and the game itself felt pretty short. It was fun, but I can't see myself going through it again.

I'd really like to see another sequel or a remake to this game, especially if it stays true to the original. It's a fun way to keep yourself occupied because everyone is rematchable and there are always opportunities to try new combos.

The sequel added more cards, but sadly never saw a release outside of Japan. People have made an English translation patch for ROMs, though, but I'd've liked a proper release.

Those are basically my thoughts. I haven't beaten it, but when I do, I'm not playing it again. Feels like a waste but, oh well.
