Pokémon UNITE celebrates 2nd anniversary with Mewtwo's Crystal Cave event - Mewtwo to receive emergency rebalance patch after dominating at launch

Pokémon UNITE's 2nd Anniversary celebrations have now begun, with a variety of events running in-game alongside the debut of Mewtwo as a playable Pokémon. Despite being intended as a easy to learn but hard to master style Pokémon, it seems players have been a little too successful with the Genetic Pokémon, and the game's developers have announced an emergency balance adjustment will be coming later today.

2nd Anniversary Events
The following events are available in-game now as part of the 2nd Anniversary celebrations, and will continue through until September 5th.

Mewtwo's Crystal Cave
In this event, players will explore a Crystal Cave looking for the traces of Mewtwo. The event functions like a board game mini-game. Players receive 1 die per day when they log in during the event, which can be rolled to advance the number of squares indicated. This die can be rerolled using Aeos Gems, up to a maximum of 5 times. When players land on a square, they unlock tile missions with different difficulty levels based on the square's number of stars. Landing on a lucky square will allow players to advance an additional 1-3 squares randomly. Players cannot roll the die again until they've completed one of the tile missions of the square they are currently on. Players can also pay 20 Aeos Gems to effectively skip a mission.

When players reach a point on the map where the path branches, they can choose which way to go, with a set chance of obtaining more rewards if they choose the path with higher difficulty level tile missions. Players can also obtain die in the new Battle Map Panic Parade for event points.

Mewtwo traces obtained from this event can be exchanged in the Crystal Cave Exchange for rewards such as Mewtwo's license, a background, a frame, Aeos Coins Boost cards, Battle Point Boost cards, Item Enhancers and Aeos Tickets.

Anniversary Cake Challenge
Players can complete missions to collect frosting for the 2nd Anniversary Cake. This frosting can be used to obtain a variety of in-game rewards, and will also increase the size of the cake for a player by one layer each time they collect a certain amount of frosting.

Daily Anniversary and Ranked Match Missions
A variety of daily missions will be available throughout the anniversary celebrations. Specific missions vary from winning battles with specific roles, defeating Regieleki or Rotom, defeating Rayquaza or Zapdos and winning battles. Completing these missions will reward players with frosting for the Anniversary Cake Challenge, along with Aeos Coins Boosts, Aeos Tickets and Item Enhancers.

Players can also obtain additional frosting for the Anniversary Cake Challenge event by participating of Ranked Matches. The missions are reset weekly.

Prize Machine Event
Until August 31st, at 4:59pm (PDT), players can receive 10 Anniversary Balls for the Prize Machine for every day they log-in at no cost, up to a maximum of 100 Anniversary Balls over the course of this event. Two popular Holowear will also be available in the Prize Machine as part of this event. Captain Style: Cinderace is currently available, costing 10 throws, while Band Style: Pikachu will be available from later today, starting at 9pm (PDT).

Please note that this feature is not available for all countries. All Anniversary Balls received from this event must be used on the same day that they're obtained.

Share your Year 2 recap
Players can create a recap of their last year playing Pokémon UNITE, which includes their total score, highest rank, achievement points, longest win streak, number of boost emblems collected and favorite (most played) Pokémon. Players who then share this recap will receive Aeos Tickets and Aeos Coins.

2nd Anniversary Presents and Bargains
All players can pick a box to receive a randomized gift of items. Particularly lucky players may also get the items inside as a gift. If you're lucky, you may get the chance to select another box.

A new in-game shop is also available until August 11th, offering a 50% discount on select shop items, including Licenses, Holowear and Trainer Outfits. Players will only be able to use Aeos Gems for purchases in this shop. Special Prices for Aeos Gems, as well as other products such as Sets at the Set Shop, are also available.

Emergency Rebalancing Patch for Mewtwo
Mewtwo, who was added to the game alongside the 2nd anniversary update, has been proving too dominant in early play. Many players have been declaring the Pokémon overpowered and broken, an assertion apparently supported by unbalanced battle statistics in favour of the Pokémon. As a result, the developers have announced that they would be releasing an emergency balance adjustment later today, at roughly 9pm (PDT), to address these issues. While no specific details of the nature of this balance adjustment have been given, reception to the Twitter post about this new patch seems generally positive.

The new Battle Map: Panic Parade is now live!
Panic Parade, a new type of PvE battle, is now available in Pokémon UNITE! In this mode, players need to protect Tinkaton from wild Pokémon's attacks. By participating in Panic Parade, players will receive event points based on their battle results. These event points can be used to obtain a variety of rewards, including a wide array of Aeos Shooter Boosts. The specific rewards available at the Event Point Shop include:

• Aeos Shooter Attack, Sp Atk, Attack Speed, Critical-Hit Rate and Damage, Recovery Effect, Move Cooldown Reduction, HP, and Movement Speed Boosts
• Die (for use in the Mewtwo's Crystal Cave event)
• 7-Day Max-Grade Trial Cards
• 7-Day Battle Point Boost Cards
• 7-Day Aeos Coin Boost Cards
• Energy Boost Tanks
• Extra-Energy Tanks
• Rename Card
• Aeos Coins

Trainers with top scores can be placed in the Panic Parade rankings. Player's event points, boosts and ranking will not reset even after the Panic Parade event period has ended.

The Panic Parade map will be unlocked during the following time periods:

• July 21st to July 31st
• August 4th to August 6th
• August 11th to August 13th
• August 18th to August 20th

Pokémon World Championship (WCS) 2023 Event
To celebrate the Pokémon UNITE division of the Pokémon WCS 2023, an event is being held to predict the top teams of the WCS. Between July 28th at 11:59pm (PDT) and August 11th at 4:59am (PDT), players can register in-game to predict the 1st to 3rd place teams. Players will then be rewarded according to the number of matches accurately predicted, with trainer outfit rewards being distributed between August 16th at 11:59pm (PDT) and August 28th at 4:59am (PDT).

Battle Pass 17 now available
A new Battle Pass is now available, offering Marine Style: Greedent and Captain Style: Zacian as rewards.

As usual, players can raise their level through regular gameplay as they complete daily lessons and missions, receiving in-game rewards each time they level up. Also as usual, the most desirable content is gated off specifically for paying players. Players who purchase the Premium Battle Pass will immediately obtain Marine Style: Greedent upon purchase, while Captain Style: Zacian can only be received through leveling up. Free-to-play players will still however be able to receive an amount of Aeos Coins, Aeos Tickets and Item Enhancers from the Battle Pass.

Season 13 is now available for Ranked Matches, running through to September 5th. By competing and ascending in the ranks, players can obtain Aeos Tickets, Unite Ranked Set (Season 13), a Background, a Frame and a Sticker.

UNITE Club Membership Rewards for August
The Holowear of the Month for August's UNITE Club Membership will be "Tuxedo Style: Blissey". Other rewards from August's pass include Aeos Gems, 7-Day Trial Licenses, 7-Day Trial Holowear, Portrait Frame and Chat Speech Bubble customizations, 10% discount on purchases and a special outfit. Players who pay for this premium membership will immediately receive the new Holowear and other rewards at the beginning of next month.
