Even though we hardly ever discuss it, our RPG has a certain timeline. It may not be deemed as such, but it is still a very important component of the game. The thing is, that particular timeline is generally strained by everthing that goes on, and it is not a simple task trying to maintain said timeline by keeping it on track, which is vital in order for the RPG to stay realistic and make sense, at least to an extent.
This is what our current situation is like. If we went strictly by the number of played out days (ie. all the days that were shown to have happened and displayed events of any kind), then the events currently going on would be dated to mid-fall at the latest. Of course, that does not make a lot of sense, so, for the sake of keeping it realistic and possible, we go by a more natural timeline. Meaning that we sacrifice mathematical accuracy in favor of overall, realistic accuracy and probability.
What I am trying to get to here is the following. It is to assume, going by the natural timeline, that we are currently in winter time. I would say December-ish. We do need to know that we only have two cities left after we get back from Cianwood. Meaning that we might face with problems when the time comes for the Silver Conference, as its placement in time will be moderately irrational, not making as much sense as it should.
If we consider the time of the year being, let's say, February when we get to and subsequently finish Blackthorn, that means not enough time will pass for the League to be able to logically happen. Therefore, a timeskip on a larger scale will be in order any time between now and then. Combined with other, minor solutions, 2 or maybe 3 weeks worth of RP time should suffice.
It would make sense if the timeskip took place either between Ecruteak and Mahogany, or Mahogany and Blackthorn. There are several possiblities, though. We could:
- divide the 2 or 3 weeks and make several shorter timeksips,
- do a timeskip on a smaller scale now and have a larger timeskip before the League, which is perhaps the most sensible option.
Look. You said it yourself, this RP is for our enjoyment. And would we really enjoy skipping a huge chunk of time just to make things "more realistic"? You might, but I sure as heck wouldn't. Besides, it's our RP. Not an official one. We don't have to strictly follow canon rules. We have to follow them generally-speaking, but we don't have to completely conform.
So, you basically just deemed my view as less important by default?
Let me explain what this will mean in the practical sense, as in the actual role-playing. Nothing. Because we will still do everything completely normally, as if we would have otherwise. The only difference will be that it will make more sense when it comes to the timeline, which doesn't directly affect our physical act of role-playing.
From my personal view, I suggest we just simply timeskips in-between Cianwood and Olivine, Olivine and Ecruteak, Ecruteak and Mahogany, Mahogany and Blackthorn, and Blackthorn and the League.
