Notice that Chandra had returned the attack, with the full intention of killing Doku. I thought it would help demonstrate how dangerous and merciless Chandra can be when he's really ticked off.

That may be true, but take into mind that, even though it takes some extreme annoyance skills to do this, Chandra can very well lose his calmness. Then he might resort to...other tactics to get his point across. And if what we've seen from Chandra is any indication, that wouldn't end well. At all.
