Pokemon World War

This question popped up in my head today whilst fighting team plasma. What would a real large scale war be like in the pokemon world. Like, would it be humans with guns alongside super powerful pokemon? Would each nation have a stockpile of pokemon that they invade with, no humans? Like... they are human, so there definitely has to be war, right?

Unless pokemon somehow make it so war doesn't happen. Maybe people are all too united by their love of pokemon, or pokemon are so devastatingly powerful that their like nukes in that they provide mutual assured destruction thus making war not worth it.

So, what do you think? Has the pokemon world ever faced war? What would it be like if it did?

Note: I haven't watched the cartoon in many years, so maybe this has been addressed and I didn't know. In which case, I would love to hear how it was.

I assume humans wouldn't fight at all, or if they were on the battlefield, their Pokemon would do all the fighting. Hoenn would probably end up winning, mainly because of all the powerful Pokemon and steel types the had. I remember there was a war in Lucario and the Mystery of Mew, though and the humans fought alongside their Pokemon, although said was supposedly occurred long before the events of today's Pokemon games/the movie.

I think that pokemon would just be used as extra soldier. Humans would still have guns, tanks and planes that could be used against other humans. They would also have tons of pokemon like charizard and infernape.

Well It depends on what time period. Modern day conflicts would be near suicidal for even level 90 steel or psychic type pokemon. Pokemon will largely be used in specialised roles. Of course it is likely there are Marchokes in infantry squad armed with Light Machine Guns and body armour that is heavier than what the human soldiers are wearing. For mine and IED clearance we would see rodent pokemon such a Raticates and Raichus. Lt Surge may of been saved by what would of eventually become his Raichu, when Raichu push Surge away from a concealed IED.

Depending on time period. In modern warfare, they are probably restricted to specialized roles.

In early times, they probably fought alongside the soldiers.

Perhaps legendaries would be like the nukes? I think I agree with most of what is said. Was thinking maybe I could write something, but than I see there is already a "Poke Wars Chronicles" so I'll have to read that.

Region officials may not have control over the Legendary Pokemon in their region. Although it would certainly be a boon to them, if they did.

Isn't there a thread like this already?

Anyway, I would think that the Pokemon would be highly important in combat. At the very least, they would be helping out on the homefront, donating any and all supplies to the army. At most, they would do the actual fighting.

Well, I will hardly see how there can be a war, because it is going to be a bad thing to anybody. However, some Pokemon can perform certain roles:

- Explosion-learners: They are the suicide bombers. It is even more useful if it's a ghost (Gengar) because you cannot eliminate it with your own exploders. It is then an important battle tactic to have a Pokemon with Damp around to prevent that kind of damage.
- Teleport-learners: Changing the position on the field will grant you massive advantage because the opponent will not be able to know what you are heading at.
- Reflect + Light Screen: Preventing half the damage can be a difference between life and death.
- Shadow Tag/Arena Trap: Your opponent cannot get out of the field, giving you major advantage.
- Fliers: Being aerial is already advantage itself, but this is why electric attacks are very handy to have.

That's it for now.

Lt. Surge tells us Pokemon do fight in wars. They powered his plane and fought with him on the ground using electrical attacks.

I imagine that most other pokemon also worked in a similar fashion.

I guess that Pokemon would each have specialised roles, kinda like in Pokemon Battles. Of course it would take it to a new extent, but in theory there would still be scouts/leads, defensive Pokemon to set up Light Screen/Reflect/Trick Room, and numerous other specialist roles. As somone previously said, humanoid Pokemon could fight with the soldiers.

Let's hope that this wouldn't happen though.

Didn't that guy left from home, because of the war in the animé (EP: The Ghost of Maiden's Peak)? It was something, umh, two hundred years ago? So there were a war back then at least. And in the Lucario-movie where Pokémon were fighting too. Unless it was the same war? How long did that Lucario stay in the "sceptre"?

I recall that in one episode, someone did have a gun (it was some episode featuring growlithe and officer jenny or something, and the guy was like, a mock crook robbing someplace, idk)
so I'd imagine guns, missiles, and the like would still be used
Pokemon would probably be used for close combat or specialized stuff, but not solely as weapons. Like soldiers, really.

I honestly wouldn't like to think about pokemon world war because war means death and I don't dig killing pokemon on purpose like that. But it has been portrayed in the Lucario movie so I think it would be something like that. However, if you really think about it now, guns, knives, and pokemon with selfdestuct and exsplosion, it's a horrible though. I could see people going to war over power or money or something stupid like that but because of the bonds we have with them, they would teach the majority of us not to fight like that.

I think that every trainer over a certain age that has a Pokemon over a certain level like 50 would be mobilised. Elite four and Champion would be generals and Gym leaders officers with their Gyms converted into armories.

Well on the one hand Pokémon have extraordinary abilities that would be tremendously useful on the battlefield. However, on the other you have to have someone stand there defenseless to keep actively commanding the Pokémon whereas human soldiers have the advantage of autonomy. Hence, I'm guessing they would theoretically use a combination of Pokémon & people in varying proportions depending on the specific situation. At the very least I'm sure they definitely use Pokémon, given the eferences to it across all media.

Region officials may not have control over the Legendary Pokemon in their region. Although it would certainly be a boon to them, if they did.

Yeah, I think all nations probably went after their own initially but after some cataclysmic incident I reckon they would've called them basically off-limits for everyone, much like nuclear weapons today.

Pokemon and War

I've become very interested in the part Pokemon (much like animals in our world) have played in Warfare. I would like to focus on the Kanto region for now as all the regions most likely would have used Pokemon native to their land for most of their military needs and importing others if needed.

While I did find another thread that touched on this the poster did not allow comparisons between Pokemon going up against traditional weapon systems which I cant agree with. Pokemon are indeed powerful but I do not beleive they would completly replace other weapon systems (Team Rocket and Hunter-J's tech and mech's for example)

Ponyta and Rapidash would make excellent cavalry and could be trained and bred with medium effort. Even when they encounter ranged units or heavy defenses their Smokescreen attack could be used to confuse the enemy or blind them giving the cavalry time to get in close with their flame attacks.

To start things off Ponyta and Rapidash would make excellent cavalry and could be trained and bred with medium effort. Even when they encounter ranged units or heavy defenses their Smokescreen attack could be used to confuse the enemy or blind them giving the cavalry time to get in close with their flame attacks.

Ponyta and Rapidash can't learn Smokescreen.
