so you're brownbear on Serebii!?..anyway..welcome Sardonicus!!
Yarp. 'Tis I, the guy who sometimes writes too much (and perhaps a little too in depth)! I came up with my name on serebii without using too much creativity, so I'm using this name now. I'm going to use it on fanfiction.net too when I start to have more free time to write the Pokeshipping fics I've got floating around in my head. I can't draw, but I can write, so I figure I'll give my contribution to Pokeshipping in that form (maybe I'll write a song, who knows).
Hi everyone!~
I've not visited here for long time because of my studies at university. But now I'll try to make 'cameo' here and participate in your discussions ^____^
Even though I haven't written or visited here for a month or two, I still love Pokeshipping all my heart :')
Oh wow! Is there a contest? I'd like to participate but I just want to know wether there is some kind of exact theme or something. (sorry for not to reading early posts where I could possibly find the answer to this question)

You're right, that is a discrepancy. But about the handkerchief, I'm not sure how reliable the "Japanese symbol of affection" interpretation is. I heard someone say it was misinterpreted or something. I have no idea where or what the context of the conversation was, but there you have it, fact worth checking. And I already tried Google.I was reading the first paragraph of the pokeshipping article on bulbapedia,to figure out how to make it better like Archaic asked us to, and the intro, and I noticed a problem. It says that most/all the hints were added in the dub. I'm pretty sure that that is untrue. I'm relatively certain that for the most part, the hints are simply different. There are a number of japanese hints that do not occur in the dub, or westerners simply would not get. The hankerchief for example. I've heard here a number of times that that's a Japanese thing- to give the guy you like one. Who knows, maybe I'm reading it wrong, but I'd really appreciate it if someone could fix that.

Oh, cool! I'm the Pokeshippers would like that to be taken as somewhat romantic..
Having seen quite a few of the hints in a subbed version, I can definitely say that the only hints I can think of that were added were the Jirachi movie hint, and the love focused song during Misty's goodbye.
Don't forget that the dub removed some hints (a date with delcatty), and still more may have been completely lost in translation, and we wouldn't even know which episode to look in.
Fact checked:
The furoshiki is an extremely versatile item in Japanese culture. It can be used as a carrying bag for most everyday items by tying it in one of many different knots. It can also be used as a scarf, a picnic cloth, a table cloth, and even a dress (if it's large enough) or (wait for it) a gift wrapping. The average size of one is about a half a meter square (a foot and a half for those who use the backward system) but they can range from the size of one's hand to larger than a bedsheet.
They could date back to all the way to the Nara period (710-794 AD) but their height of popularity was in the Tokugawa period in the 1700's. Their popularity declined post-World-War-2 because of the advent of plastic bags, but the Japanese government in 2006 set an environmental initiative to revert to the furoshiki to reduce the waste of plastic bags.
As a gift wrapping, it is traditional to use it as a gift wrapping for a wedding gift. Here's a quote regarding their use as gift wrappings and meaning as gifts:
"Traditionally it is considered good manners to unwrap and present the gift, and keep the furoshiki. Today most people confess that it’s so nice to receive a furoshiki but very hard to give away again. Chizuko Morita, author or the popular book Gift Wrapping with Textiles suggests 'to give the furoshiki or piece of fabric as part of the gift. The recipient can then reuse the cloth, and so the cycle continues: a piece of cloth used over and over again, a cultural and emotional connection from one person to the next.'"
So my verdict is that Misty's not keeping the handkerchief is meant to show that she has some sort of emotional connection with Ash. Whether that emotional connection is romantic or not is up for debate.
I can't wait to see what all of you are going to make! ^^
That's not true. I only know that what Ash said in the 6th movie was dub-added and also Mistys "marry"-thing in Heartbreak of Brock. And yeah, also the Mistys goodbye song was dub-added. But that was all I know. All other hints which existed in English version were also in the original. It says that most/all the hints were added in the dub. I'm pretty sure that that is untrue
