I have one.

I think most people tend to maintain, and with some good reason, that the dubbed Anime episodes are a little more direct with their Pokeshipping hints. Don't get me wrong, Pokeshipping is pretty blatant in the originals...the animation can't lie...but many critics of Pokeshipping love to run around screaming "dub-added! dub-added!" etc.

Here's my question/discussion topic:

Does anyone know of a list, or could make an argument for, episodes or instances where the original Japanese version of the anime was Pokeshippy where the English dub wasn't? It could be as mundane as a subtle hint or as obscure as a Japanese cultural reference on Romance. I'm just very curious.

I'll go first...

For example, "Toi et Moi" was an arguable Pokeshippy song that made allusions to Ash and Misty in Pokemon 2000. BUT, it only appeared at the end of the Japanese version!
That's true. But I really love "Toi et Moi".

In the episode, "The Heartbreak of Brock", Misty mentioned this to Ash.

"You and I get married too..."

But in the original version, she was merely talking about Brock and Temacu.

Right. I like Toi et Moi, too.

The "Heartbreak of Brock" marriage hint is dub-added in English. But the 2nd hint in that same episode where Misty says "Take it from me: It's a lot easier to like somebody who likes you back than to like somebody who doesn't!" (followed by Brock saying "how do you know?", and Misty flustering/turning red)... that hint is NOT dub-added, and it is a huge, often overlooked piece of Pokeshipping evidence.

But that wasn't really my question. We all know there are a few hints that are only in the English version. I pretty much know every hint in the English anime. My question is: are there any hints, besides "Toi & Moi", that are exclusive to the Japanese version?

So far I only know Toi et Moi to be a Japanese exclusive PokeShip hint...

Well, Pokemon 2000 wasn't Japanese exclusive but it was very big on Ash and Misty's relationship.

Does everyone remember this?
Well, if you compare the Japanese lines to the English, Ash is less focused on protecting Misty so much as her AND May and Togepi in the English version:

The main difference is in these lines:
Satoshi: Why did you bring her (Kasumi) here?

Ash: I have a feeling I know!
This one is obvious.

Satoshi: Haruka, Masato, take Kasumi and run!

Ash: Ok, Max, take Misty and the others away.
This one, not so much, but the original is more pointed at Misty/Kasumi. Thankfully, this episode is near-exactly dubbed so it's pretty much impossible to argue.

If you haven't seen it, the English lines are below.
(Reunited with group after kidnapping)
Ash: Hey, Misty!

Misty: Ash! You guys!

Ash: Are you ok?

Misty: Yes, I'm fine.

???: The twerps. Just great...

???: We don't take kindly to stowaways!

May: What's the big idea, bringing Misty here?

Brock: One of you better tell me what's going on!

Ash: I have a feeling I know!

(After Colonel Hanson has his Shedinja use solar beam)

Ash: What'd you do that for?

(2 Ninjask appear, Misty freaks)

Max: Ninjask!

May: Misty, what's wrong?

Brock: She's never been a big fan of bug Pokemon.

Misty: Bugs really bug me!

Ash: Ok, Max, take Misty and the others away.

Misty: But, Ash...!

Ash: I'll take care of this...

Brock: Mudkip, go!

(Misty, May, and Max do not run)

Ash: Misty, leave!

(May, Misty, and Max turn to run. Mudkip and Pikachu attack. There is an explosion)

May: Come on!

Max: Let's go!

(They run. Misty worries about Ash and Brock when they are at a "safe" distance)
I dunno, but if you ask me...

The original has its charm on the Togepi episodes. The lines are a bit shippy than the english one.

Thanks. That is exactly the kind of thing I was looking for!

If I had a lot more time than I do now, I'd learn Japanese and study Pokeshipping hints from that point of view.

Now that's what I call dedication.

PokeShipping is the true original. It's been planned since the beginning. The Japanese and the dub both have hints.

In the japanese version of "a date with delcatty" there's this hint about Misty liking "somebody else" who is very obviously Ash. If I remember correctly this is missing in the english version completly.

hope this was what you meant :)

An AdvanceShipper recently accused me of being a ContestShipper "to get May out of the way so [my] crack pairing can happen." I LOLed. I support Contest because it's all but canon, the same reason I support most of what I support. But it alarms me that some other Shippers think of Poke as crack. Even if they did use the "dub-added" malinformed excuse.

The number of original hints are a lot more than the dub-added hints. Really now those Anti-PokeShippers just keep using the dub as a pathetic excuse.

That assuming any ship bashing isn't a LITTLE pathetic.

I dead seriously thought Contestshipping WAS canon until I watched more and looked it up. I figured he was pretty much the Li to her Sakura, Cardcaptors style.

Still, they think it's CRACK?! We need to step up our game if we're to keep people from falsely assuming PokeShipping is crack or dead.

Dead, I could buy to an extent. I mean, there haven't been any big Misty appearances in a while, but to call it crack is hysterical. Reminds me of when CloudxAerith fans of the more rabid sort demonize Tifa and paint her as being a slutty Amy Rose hanger-on to Cloud. You'd wonder who replaced their copy of FF7 with one that would even remotely support their interpretation.

Actually, this was in the English one, too. But what a great hint nonetheless. One of the few "post-GCYL" hints.

I'd never consider PokeShipping dead. It's still alive in the hearts of PokeShippers everywhere.

I considered it kind of dead until the Misty Lure thing a while back. I hope Misty gets an appearance soon.
