That 3rd hint immediately made me think of another Pokemon entirely. Double-checking on Bulbapedia confirmed it: Lucario.

That's correct! Lucario is almost certainly based on the African Golden wolf, previously thought to be a species of Jackal, it was discovered in 2015 that it is in fact more closely related to wolves and coyotes thereby changing the species name. Isn't science fun?
