As you may already be aware, in just under 90 minutes from now (at time of posting), Melbourne will be in lockdown following a massive spike in new cases of coronavirus (191 yesterday and around 130 today). Throughout the world, we are seeing spikes in places in Spain, United Kingdom and parts of the United States of America among others. On most days for the next six weeks (which is the expected length of this lockdown), I will be posting my days in lockdown in this thread. Who knows, maybe this can inspire us to do a time capsule for the dark days of 2020 when the virus struck. With many sporting code either postponed or cancelled outright (such as our state-based Victorian Football League - former Victorian Football Association), it will be a long six weeks. But I feel I can handle the next six weeks, and I got a lot planned (such as learning a language, watching Korean dramas on Netflix and watching webinars online, as well as writing a book) to keep me sane.

I feel that Bulbagarden will be the only way I could make contact to the outside world during the next six weeks (even though I got television and radio to keep me company for six weeks). But I will update you with my day for the next six weeks.

End of Day 1 (41 days to go...at least)
END OF DAY 1: 41 DAYS TO GO...AT LEAST
Cases In Victoria In Past 24 Hours: 165 (932 active cases)

Well, it is the end of Day 1 of lockdown here in Melbourne. Some good news for people in eight of the nine towers that had been in lockdown since Saturday, with eight of the towers set to be out of hard lockdown as of 23:59 tonight (as mentioned in the thread about coronavirus). Today, I have been reading an article from the latest edition of Australian Foreign Affairs that came in the mail today (yes, I am a current affairs junkie), and listened to a podcast that I downloaded last night (again, current affairs). I mostly been listening to the radio (mostly either PBS or RRR - both community radio stations here in Melbourne. I am currently listening to Son of Crawdaddy on RRR) or watching television (mostly focusing on coronavirus, although I also looked into the news around the world as well as watching 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown on SBS Viceland). I also done putting some text into a book that I am writing (about multilateralism forums in the world).

I have also begun subscribing to online news sites to keep up to date with whats happening in the world. I also checked out some sites, and there are interesting happenings throughout the world (such as the deteriorating relations between Australia and China; and talks of a summit between US President Donald Trump and North Korean Leader Kim Jong-un. Some sad news today with rapper Kanye West announcing he is throwing his hat in the race to be US President (and you thought you couldn't get worse than Trump).

What's happening tomorrow? I doing volunteer work at a homework club (their holidays program is running tomorrow) via Zoom, and despite school holidays being extended by one week here in Victoria (except for Years 11 and 12 and those who go to specialist schools), it's back to normal next week, even though like last term, it will be via Zoom. And more reading.

See you tomorrow.

End of Day 2 (40 days to go...at least)
END OF DAY 2: 40 DAYS TO GO...AT LEAST
Cases in Victoria In Past 24 Hours: 288 (1172 active cases)

Day 2 of our lockdown, and the largest one-day increase in Australia since the start of the pandemic. Today I went for a walk around the neighbourhood (exercise is one of the four reasons to leave your home, so it is okay), but I had to take my glasses off several times as I was wearing a face mask and my glasses were falling off (the Chief Health Officer here in Victoria now recommends that adults living in the Melbourne metropolitan area or Mitchell Shire Council to wear a face mask when outside the home if it is difficult to keep 1.5 metres apart from other people, Department of Health and Human Services Victoria | Face masks). Apart from that, I remained at home for most of the day. I am currently listening to the radio (3RRR to be exact). And I have been looking at short courses at the CAE (Centre for Adult Education), which are running via Zoom (probably looking at the Cold War).

With school holidays finishing, it is back to normal for me on a Monday as I volunteer at a homework club which is currently running via Zoom (most of the students will still be on holidays due to it being extended by a week); but there are also several public seminars that I will be attending via Zoom next week.

Plans for tomorrow: Start learning a new language (Korean) as I am hoping to teach English in Korea as soon as we are over coronavirus and do a lot of reading.

See you tomorrow.

End of Day 3 (39 days to go...at least)
END OF DAY 3: 39 DAYS TO GO...AT LEAST
Cases in Victoria in the Past 24 Hours: 216 (1249 active cases)

Day 3 has come and gone. I didn't get around to start learning Korean, but I will tomorrow night. It was mostly rain today here in Melbourne and mostly listened to the radio. I watched a bit of the AFL on the television (Essendon vs North Melbourne at Carrara Stadium on the Gold Coast, the main stadium from the 2018 Commonwealth Games), but the team I go for (North Melbourne) lost. As a North Melbourne supporter, I couldn't notice the irony of North Melbourne relocating to the Gold Coast hub as a few years back, the AFL tried to force North Melbourne to relocate to the Gold Coast. We play Richmond next week, again at Carrara.

In case you don't know, the AFL is continuing throughout the crisis here in Victoria, but the Victorian teams have relocated to hubs in other areas (Victorian teams are below, teams from South Australia and Western Australia are in the process of heading back home).

Carlton: Gold Coast
Collingwood: Perth
Essendon: Gold Coast
Geelong: Perth
Hawthorn: Sydney
Melbourne: Sydney
North Melbourne: Gold Coast
Richmond: Gold Coast
St. Kilda: Sunshine Coast
Western Bulldogs: Gold Coast

I did some work on my book about multilateralism. I am about a quarter of the way there. I also got new material for said book. I am also working on something on bilateral relations (which has been a major issue in recent weeks, especially with our relationship with China in regards to Hong Kong).

I am now also entertaining the idea that I could be forced to stay home on New Years' Eve this year. Normally, I head out to Docklands for New Years' Eve, but it might not happen this year due to coronavirus. Live gigs and that might not return for a long time due to coronavirus. I don't think anything will be back to normal for a few years.

Tomorrow, I will get around to start learning Korean and do some reading. I won't go outside for some exercise as more rain is expected here in Melbourne; as well as the issues with wearing a face mask and glasses at the same time.

See you tomorrow.

End of Day 4 (38 days to go...at least)
END OF DAY 4: 38 DAYS TO GO...AT LEAST
Cases in Victoria in the Past 24 Hours: 273 (1484 active cases)

End of Day 4. Firstly, thank to Enzap for the encouragement for my endeavour to learn a new language above, which I started today. I will be doing a lot of it over the next couple of weeks, and beyond.

I went for a walk today, luckily because it was bucketing down this afternoon. I listened to the radio a lot today, as well as watching the latest on the coronavirus. What disgusts me is that people are going to these coronavirus parties (and there has been examples around the world of people throwing parties after being given a positive result for coronavirus); and there are people who believe all these conspiracy theories about coronavirus and people in the United States of America who think they have a right to make other people sick by not wearing a mask (I wore a mask on my walk today). To these people, people have actually died from coronavirus and yet you are making light of it, thinking that you are more important than the community at large. But at least Donald Trump is wearing a mask....but is it for show?

Seriously, enough of my rant about people who only care for themselves. Apart from watching television and listening to the radio (and studyign Korean), not much has happened today (I had trouble picking up ABC today due to the rain here in Melbourne, which is pretty much normal in rain. First World problem).

Tomorrow, I start volunteering again, and the kids who attend homework club will be doing remote learning again...at least until mid-August when lockdown is expected to end (at least). And I will continue learning Korean (I will be doing it before homework club).

See you tomorrow.

END OF DAY 5: 37 DAYS TO GO...AT LEAST
Cases in Victoria in the Past 24 Hours: 177 (1612 active cases)

We are almost at the end of Week 1 of 6 in lockdown here in Melbourne, and there is a possibility that Melbourne would not be alone in lockdown as there could be a second lockdown in Sydney due to more cases due to clusters in several places in Sydnedyy.

Today homework club begun for Term 3, even though it was still school holidays for the students that comes to homework club (it was via Zoom) as I mentioned back in the post for Day 1 of lockdown, and remote learning will be until at least mid-August when lockdown ends.

I am currently watching the Adam Hills: Takes His Legs documentary at the moment on 10 (10 is a commercial station here in Australia that is owned by ViacomCBS). I watched some TV tonight (news, 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, The IT Crowd and Media Watch and later tonight AnimeLab OnAir on C31).

Tomorrow, I will be doing a online course as well as studying Korean, and working on the book.

See you tomorrow.

END OF DAY 6: 36 DAYS TO GO...AT LEAST?
Cases in Victoria in the Past 24 Hours: 270 (1803 active cases)

Well, we are almost at the end of Week 1 of Stage 3 lockdown here in Melbourne. That is the good news. The bad news is that there is talk that Stage 4 restrictions could soon be in effect due to three-digit growths in new cases over the past week (mostly 200+ new cases), which means that lockdown will be longer than it was meant to be initially, but we will not know until sometime next week. This could means restrictions on outdoor exercise (which I do currently while wearing a face mask).

There is talk that several AFL clubs (including Melbourne and Hawthorn, who relocated to Sydney due to coronavirus in Melbourne) will leave Sydney due to the spike in cases and South Australia has closed its borders with New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory.

I started the online course, but can't do much until September when the session begins.

I came onto the forum earlier this afternoon after hearing about the death of Grant Imahara (from Mythbusters and The White Rabbit Project) and mentioned it in the "In Memoriam" section of Outside the Box.

I watched some television today, like the repeat of last night's episode of Big Brother (Kieran is in the White Room, but the housemates thinks he's gone), plus my habit of watching the news. I also looked at some of the news from overseas via the internet.

Tomorrow: Tomorrow night, I will be watching a webinar (a conversation between Chris Patten and Gareth Evans) and studying Korean (as well as keeping up to date with the happenings around the world); as well as study Korean.

See you tomorrow.

END OF DAY 7: 36 DAYS TO GO...AT LEAST?
Cases in Victoria in the Past 24 Hours: 238 (1931 active cases) 27 lives lost.

Well, we are now at the end of Week 1 of lockdown, and five weeks to go (unless we go to Stage 4 restrictions, which could happen). I went to a webinar that I mentioned in the post for Day 6, which was very good (it was a conversation with former Australian Foreign Minister Gareth Evans and the last British Governor of Hong Kong Chris Patten). I am beginning to wonder what I should do with my future after lockdown, as I am interested in international current affairs, especially the international relations system in North East Asia. I think things like coronavirus may place your life in perspective. How many future agendas will change as a result of coronavirus as people put their lives into perspective?

I also watched some television tonight, and I personally felt that Retrograde was a bit ordinary tonight; but Rosehaven was very good (I won't spoil the two shows as they have not been aired in Western Australia yet. They are two hours behind the East).

I also went for a walk this afternoon, which could be one of the last times I would be allowed to leave if Stage 4 restricts exercise.

In the world of AFL football, all Victorian clubs will be based in Queensland for the rest of the season (10 weeks) and there is debate over the finals this year, and in particular the Grand Final, which could be in Brisbane this year (it is normally held in Melbourne, but Melbourne is in lockdown as you may already know through this blog.

Tomorrow, I will be studying Korean and just listening to the radio (as well as watching some television).

See you tomorrow.

END OF DAY 8: 35 DAYS TO GO...AT LEAST
Cases in Victoria in the Past 24 Hours: 317 (2128 active cases) 29 lives lost.

We are now into Week 2 of Stage 3 lockdown here in Melbourne with Stage 4 looming large due to about a week of 3-digit increases. Firstly, I need to acknowledge that even though there were 317 new cases in Victoria in the previous 24 hours, the Chief Health Officer here in Victoria noted that the overall total increased by 302 with 15 cases reclassified, largely due to duplication, which you can find out via the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services website (Department of Health and Human Services Victoria | Coronavirus (COVID-19) daily update).

I decided to start a new online course today, as the one I already enrolled in doesn't start until September, and I discovered that it is flexible and I can do the modules in any order. And I have a feeling that it will have an impact on what I might do after the coronavirus pandemic ends. I will continue it tomorrow. As I mentioned in my post last night, no doubt I will put my life into perspective as a result of coronavirus, like many people throughout the world.

I went for a walk, possibly for the last time as it is getting worse here in Melbourne and my local government area (Brimbank City Council) is considered one of the hotspots for coronavirus. I won't go for a walk tomorrow for that reason.

I watched some television and listened to the radio, and like every Thursday night, I am currently listening to Son of Crawdaddy on 3RRR. I am interested in hosting a current affairs show on a community radio station here in Melbourne, but my goals have been delayed due to coronavirus. I also listened to a show on 3PBS (another community radio station).

Tomorrow: I will continue to do the course I enrolled into tonight, as well as listen to a podcast that I just downloaded (current affairs junkie) and learn Korean (which I have neglected in the past couple of days, but will get back to it tomorrow).

See you tomorrow.

END OF DAY 12: 31 DAYS TO GO
Cases in Victoria: 275 (2913 active cases) 39 deaths

Sorry about not posting for a few days as my computer crashed on Friday and I lost access to my old account (as indigohex2). But I got a new computer today, and I have to set up a new account as the password to my old account was lost (but I am trying to salvage some important passwords). Today, apart from going out to buy a new computer, I did homework club today and watched some television and that is about it. I just watched Media Watch and I can't believe how coronavirus-denying conspiracy theorists are getting away with disgusting lies (they claim that coronavirus is a hoax, yet provides no evidence).

In case you haven't heard, masks will be mandatory in Victoria from Thursday.

Tomorrow: I will be doing some reading and studying Korean.

See you tomorrow.

END OF DAY 13: 30 DAYS TO GO...AT LEAST
Cases in Victoria: 374 (3147 cases) 42 deaths

Well, today has been eventful. Firstly, my bed collapse so I am reporting for the spare bedroom.

With a bit more than 24 hours before masks become mandatory in Melbourne (and Mitchell Shire as mentioned in the first post), and today I got a couple of more masks (two to be exact, so I have three masks).

I begun to get back the various accounts I have online (my indigohex2 account seems lost forever) and hopefully my personal email account will be fixed tomorrow. I have emailed some of the sites I had accounts with to transfer the account to my new GMAIL account.

I didn't get to do what I wanted to do, but the good news is that I listened to a current affairs podcast. I also watched the penultimate episode of Big Brother
Tomorrow: Hopefully my bed will be fixed. Apart from that, I plan to do a bit of reading tomorrow, as well as study Korean.

See you tomorrow.

END OF DAY 14: 29 DAYS TO GO...AT LEAST
Cases in Victoria in the Past 24 Hours: 484 (3408 cases) 44 deaths

Some good news. As you may remember that last night, my bed collapse. Well, it is fixed and I didn't have to buy a new bed.

And now the bad news. 484 cases reported in the last 24 hours, a record.

I watched the finale of Big Brother (and I think the announcement is a few minutes away from being announced in Perth, which is 2 hours behind the eastern states of which I am located in, so I know who won, and hint: NO CHAD DID NOT PROPOSE TO SOPHIE NOR DID DANIEL PROPOSED TO HIS GIRLFRIEND ON THE OUTSIDE:LOL:). But I didn't watch Rosehaven nor Retrograde due to problems with ABC on my television (First World problem), but I may watch the repeat.

I didn't get to do what I wanted to do today, but hopefully, I'll do it tomorrow.

And, if you live in metropolitan Melbourne or the Mitchell Shire Council LGA, face mask wearing will be mandatory from 23:59 tonight.

TOMORROW: I will be doing an online course, and hopefully, study Korean.

See you tomorrow.

END OF DAY 15: 28 DAYS TO GO...AT LEAST
Cases in Victoria in the Past 24 Hours: 403 (3630 active cases) 49 lives lost

Today was the first day of mandatory wearing of face masks in public, which is what I exactly did as I wore my mask while I went for a walk today.

Today I did a course online, and I went to an online webinar on Brexit, which was very interesting (as I have been following Brexit for the past couple of years). I gained access to more of my accounts on the internet, which is good news, even though I have to change the passwords and put it in my password manager.

I also played Pokemon Sword for a bit before the webinar, and got a few new Pokemon such as Jigglypuff (note I have the Isle of Armour expansion) and I managed to get an Eevee as a result of breeding a Vaporeon and a Ditto.

TOMORROW: More of the online course and studying Korean.

See you tomorrow.

END OF DAY 16: 27 DAYS TO GO...AT LEAST
Cases in Victoria in the Past 24 Hours: 300 (3734 active cases) 56 lives lost

Today was the deadliest day of the pandemic here in Victoria with 7 lives lost. Yet we have conspiracy theorists who think they know what is going on, even though they don't listen to experts who knows what they are talking about and claims that this is not real. For those who thinks that coronavirus is a hoax, then read this article from a few weeks ago from the Straits Times in Singapore about a 30-year old Texan who though that coronavirus was a hoax, yet he died from coronavirus after attending a so-called "COVID Party" (US man, 30, dies from coronavirus after attending 'Covid-19 party').

Enough of my ranting about conspiracy theorists. Today, I continued with the online short course, and it is getting interesting, especially with what is happening between the United States of America and China (as you already know, I am a current affairs junkie). And I made space on my portable hard drive for the upcoming UN General Assembly, which I will be following in September.

I am still question what I plan to do when the restrictions get lifted and Australians will be allowed to travel overseas again. Would I still contemplate teaching English in South Korea? Or do a course there in international relations, but from a North-East Asian perspective? I personally feel that a lot of people around the world are reconsidering their futures as a result of coronavirus, as it places our position in the world into perspective.

TOMORROW: I have been putting it off, but I will study Korean tomorrow, and continue doing the short course.

See you tomorrow.

END OF DAY 17: 26 DAYS TO GO...AT LEAST
Cases in Victoria in the Past 24 Hours: 357 (3995 active cases) 61 lives lost

Today, I didn't get to do what I planned. But I had to get some medication, so I went to the local pharmacy (drug store for Americans on the forums, but drugs have a negative meaning here in Australia), and before I got into the pharmacy (Chemist Warehouse, which is on the Watergardens shopping centre side of the Melton Highway), I had to get my temperature checked after waiting a few minutes outside because there are limits to how many people can be in the pharmacy, which was okay (I passed the temperature check). I had to wait 20 minutes between arrival and paying for the medication. And yes, I remembered my mask today in case you were wondering.

I have also been following the dispute between the United States of America and China, which could bring about a new Cold War between the two countries (and I hate how Mike Pompeo says that democratic countries should unite against China, even though Saudi Arabia is NOT A DEMOCRACY, yet is supported by Washington).

I finally got Audicity working on my new laptop and I plan to record my demo which I will send to a community radio station here in Melbourne, and I might do the demo on Tuesday.

TOMORROW: Listen to the radio and do some of the short course (hopefully).

See you tomorrow.

END OF DAY 18: 25 DAYS TO GO....AT LEAST
Cases in Victoria in the Past 24 Hours: 459 (4233 active cases) 71 lives lost

Today was the deadliest day in Victoria with 10 deaths, including a man in his 40s. And yet we have people flouting the laws, claiming that the laws goes against human rights. How many of these people cares for the human rights of others? How many of them support the human rights of refugees who are locked up in remote concentration camps? How many of them support the human rights of indigenous Australians? And how many of them are actually opposed to the United Nations? Many of these people who cite the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (which is a very important document in my opinion) as a reason to not wear a mask are being hypocritical, as no doubt none of these people who refuse to wear a mask cares about the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the human rights of indigenous Australians or refugees (who are more likely to die from coronavirus than the general population). And no doubt many of them are opposed to the United Nations, which has been a force for good in the world.

Enough of my rambling. Today was a largely quiet day for me, listening to the radio (and watched some television this evening) as well as watching Daniel Andrew's press conference this morning in which there are 459 new cases in Victoria (note that the figures at the top is for the whole state of Victoria and is not exclusive to Melbourne, but sadly 10 deaths. I continued on my search for the latest happenings in international current affairs.

TOMORROW: The homework club I volunteer at is running tomorrow via Zoom, and watching television tomorrow night, and that is largely it for tomorrow.

See you tomorrow.

END OF DAY 19: 24 DAYS TO GO...AT LEAST
Cases in Victoria in the Past 24 Hours: 532 new cases (4542 active cases) 77 lives lost

Today was more intense than I thought, as I forgot that I had a webinar to attend tonight (a webinar with former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd). Today, I had homework club via Zoom and then the webinar. I also went for a walk around the suburb (with my mask on of course, which meant I had to take my glasses off as it keeps on falling off when I wear a mask). On a general level, it was our worst day of the pandemic with 532 new cases and six deaths. I think I heard somewhere that the second wave is targeting younger people, even though most of the deaths here in Victoria has been linked to aged care homes (in fact, a newborn baby is fighting for life after being diagnosed with cornavirus and the baby is at the Royal Children's Hospital in Parkville.

I am still wondering what I am going to do next year, as it is highly unlikely borders will reopen for a while. I have some goals in mind (like hosting a radio show on community radio here in Melbourne).

TOMORROW: Watch Rosehaven (it's being repeated tomorrow afternoon on ABC, as I missed it on Wednesday due to problems with reception), and keeping up with the news around the Asia-Pacific region.

See you tomorrow.

END OF DAY 20: 23 DAYS TO GO...AT LEAST
Cases in Victoria in the Past 24 Hours: 384 new cases (4775 active cases) 83 lives lost

Well, it is almost the end of the third week of lockdown here in Melbourne, and a drop in new cases here in Victoria. As you may remember last night, I mentioned something about the Royal Childrens Hospital here in Melbourne. Well, the good news is that all cases (bar one) of babies in the prenatal ward of the Royal Chidrens Hospital has come back negative (the only one not included was not available at time of Yours Truly typing (something for me to update you on tomorrow night)). But sadly, 6 lives were lost in the past 24 hours.

I managed to watch Rosehaven and Retrograde (which were repeated earlier this afternoon on ABC), and tonight I watched 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown (on SBS Viceland) and Insert Name Here (on ABC Comedy). I also watched the news on the latest on coronavirus here in Melbourne, and there is a possibility that VCE (Victorian Certificate of Education) students may go back to remote learning (not sure yet at time of typing). As you may already be aware, other students are in remote learning, including students I tutor at homework club (which is being done via Zoom).

I also watched a bit of The Project (on Network 10), and there was a discussion on the number of new cases, which appears to be jumping up and down as you may noticed in the daily count at the post of every post, but there is an average. There was also mentioned of reproduction (which I remember was discussed on an episode of The Last Leg a couple of months ago, just when the first wave was getting worse in the United Kingdom).

The good news is that I fixed my old email account (not the one linked to my old account, but my personal email account), but there are issues, so that may linger on for some time.

TOMORROW: Listen to some podcasts I downloaded and study Korean.

See you tomorrow.

END OF DAY 21: 22 DAYS TO GO...AT LEAST
Cases in Victoria in the Past 24 Hours: 295 new cases (4839 active cases) 92 lives lost

Today, I did the short course I was doing on the internet. I hoping to finish it by the end of next week (most likely to be finished on the weekend). I am beginning to fix up everything that went wrong a couple of weeks ago. I am currently listening to a podcast that I downloaded (just a few minutes ago to be exact), and yes, it is a current affairs podcast (I am a current affairs junkie in case you are wondering).

Today, there will be no ranting over conspiracy theories that certain people believe (even though the news coverage is full of people claiming to have a cure for coronavirus, even though none currently exists).

At lunchtime today, I watched Daniel Andrews' press conference (in case you are wondering, Daniel Andrews is the Premier of Victoria) and then did the course. Then I watched the news on the latest on coronavirus. I also kept up with the latest happenings from around the world via the Internet, visiting various websites.

You may remember my post last night on how there were issues with my personal email. Well, it has been completely fixed, and now almost everything has been fixed.

Tonight, I mostly watched television (just finishing watching the latest episode of Retrograde and before that, Rosehaven, both on ABC).

TOMORROW: Do more of that online course. And listen to the radio.

See you tomorrow.
