Professor Willow’s research runs wild in Pokémon GO next week for the Let's GO event, another Team GO Rocket takeover event starts March 25th

Ditto and Meltan
In the latest update on Pokémon GO's official site, Niantic has released details on a pair of events coming to Pokémon GO across late March. The Let's GO event starting March 21st will feature a collection of different Pokémon including the Hex Nut Pokémon Meltan. Running alongside this event will be the latest Team GO Rocket Takeover, which will start March 25th. The Team GO Rocket Takeover will see Trainers completing Special Research and chasing down Giovanni before he can complete an evil plot involving Shadow Regice.

Let's GO event
The Let's GO event will be running from March 21st at 10:00am local time, through to March 29th, at 8:00pm local time. During this event, the three elemental monkey Pokémon, Pansage, Pansear and Panpour, will be appearing more frequently in the wild, along with their Shiny variants. Players can also encounter Shiny Meltan via the Mystery Box, which players can unlock by sending a Pokémon from Pokémon GO to either Pokémon HOME, or to the Pokémon Let's GO games on Nintendo Switch.

Event Bonuses and Activities
  • Reduced waiting time for opening the Mystery Box
  • Increased chance of finding XXS and XXL Meltan
  • 2× Candy from transferring Pokémon
  • Increased chance of finding Ditto disguised as other Pokémon
Collection Challenge and Field Research tasks
An event-themed Collection Challenge will be available as part of the Let's GO event. Completing the Let's GO Collection Challenge will award Trainers with an encounter with Meltan and 5,000 XP.

Seasonal Special Research and Timed Research
Together with the start of the Let's GO event, two research tasks will be available for trainers to claim and complete by the end of Season 10.

Special Research: An Everyday Hero
This free Special Research, which will be available to claim until June 1st, at 10:00am local time, will see Trainers assisting Professor Willow with his research.

Ticketed Timed Research: Willow's Wardrobe
Completing this Ticketed Timed Research will allow Trainers to unlock a new Professor Willow inspired costume, as well as encounter Melmetal. Melmetal caught from this encounter, as well as Meltan that Trainers evolve into Melmetal during this Timed Research, will learn the Charged Attack Double Iron Bash. In Gym Battles and Raids, this move has 50 power with an Energy cost of 33, Duration of 2 seconds, and Damage window of 0.7 seconds. In Trainer Battles, the move has 70 Power with an Energy cost of 35.

This Ticketed Timed Research must be completed by June 1st, at 10:00am local time.

Giovanni & Regice
Team GO Rocket Takeover

Team GO Rocket will once again be taking over Pokémon GO, in an event running alongside the second half of the Let's GO event from March 25th at 10:00am local time, through to March 29th at 8:00pm local time. During the event, Team GO Rocket will appear more frequently at PokéStops and in balloon. Trainers will also be able to use Charged TMs to help any Shadow Pokémon they free from the clutches of Team GO Rocket forget the charged attack Frustration. Upon purification, Frustration is replaced by Return as the Charged Attack.

By completing a Special Research story running as part of this event, Trainers can earn a Super Rocket Radar to locate and battle Giovanni, who will be using a Shadow Regice. This Special Research will be available to claim until the end of Season 10: Rising Heroes on June 1st at 10:00am local time. Trainers who defeat Giovanni will be given a chance to capture Regice. A Field Research task awarding a Mysterious Component will also be available.
