COMPLETE: Psychic Duelist Django Spirit (Season 1: Number Hunters) (Final Chapter Up!) (TEEN)

Re: Psychic Duelist Django Spirit (Season 1: Number Hunters) (Chapter 22 Up!)

Just a slight update (and a bump, if you will). The next chapter is in the works, I just haven't been feeling well again, so I haven't had the drive to finish it. It's about 1/3rd done. Hopefully I'll get it up by the weekend (though this Saturday is my birthday, so that'll delay it further).

Also, on another note, I thank everyone who voted for my story during the past story awards. That really means a lot to me, as I don't generally have a lot of confidence in my work. So thank you, all of you.

Re: Psychic Duelist Django Spirit (Season 1: Number Hunters) (Chapter 23 Up!)

Sweet lordie, why did this take me so long!? The answer is this: Spring. I hate Spring and everything associated with it! Namely rapid changes in weather, and I'm almost hypersensitive to weather changes, no matter how subtle. It has been back and forth, warm to cold then back to warm, what a nightmare. Not only does it drain my energy, but it can trigger my migraines much easier that way. Ugh! But enough whining, let's move on, shall we? Here is the next installment (about time, too, right?).

No Strings Attached

Cosmoz was tending to Chronos, his mother Viola by his side. She looked very worried as Chronos’ somewhat frail frame rose and fell with each breath. He was still unconscious, but his wounds seemed to be healing well. After a while, Cosmoz got up, gestured to his mother to follow him, and they left the room. When they stepped out of the room and traveled down to the living room, Vylon and Carver were waiting for them.

Vylon asked, “How’s Chronos?”

Cosmoz replied, “Much better, but he’s still unconscious. It’s been a few days since he returned in this state, but he’s healing well. He’ll still be out for a while, as it’ll take time for his body and mind to fully recuperate. But he’ll be fine within time.”

Carver snapped, “That miserable lowlife! Father! I’ll find this Django guy and teach him a lesson he won’t forget!”

Viola stated strongly, “Don’t, Carver! It won’t solve anything. And what if you come back the same way as Chronos did? I don’t think I could handle two of my sons bedridden. So don’t do something reckless.”

Vylon nodded, “Indeed, your mother is correct. We cannot run into this haphazardly, or it could be a major problem. While I do want to know if this Django is or isn’t a Spirit, challenging him out of revenge won’t solve anything. I am upset that Chronos came back in such a state, but he was doing what we asked of him. So you are not permitted to challenge him, Carver.”

Carver protested, “But, father! Look what happened to Chronos! We cannot let this slide! Chronos could’ve been killed, and you’re not gonna do anything about it!?”

Cosmoz interrupted, “Actually, Chronos came home in better condition than you think. Whoever this Django is, he obviously restrained his powers during the Duel, as Chronos’ injuries were not as severe as one would think. He’s unconscious mostly due to physical and mental exhaustion, not bodily wounds. Having tended to him, I can see that whoever he was Dueling was actually holding back, not wanting to hurt him. Otherwise Chronos would be a lot worse off. We cannot be so quick to judge, as whoever this Django is, he was holding back. So don’t get so hot under the collar, Carver. I want my brother to recover, too, but I won’t be so quick to jump to conclusions. Try to calm down, Carver, as getting worked up won’t solve anything.”

Carver protested, “But…!”

Vylon stated strongly, “That’s enough, Carver! I’ll ultimately decide what to do about Django. You are not permitted to hunt him down and challenge him, you hear me? Now settle down.” He got up, “I have some work to do. Carver, you are not allowed to access any of the Numbers we have left. Got that? Cosmoz, I’ll need your help. Viola, keep an eye on Chronos, please. Let me know how he’s doing in a little while. And Carver, don’t do anything reckless.”

The middle child grumbled, “Fine…”

“Good. Now, let’s get going, Cosmoz. I need your help with something.”

Cosmoz nodded, “Yes, father.”

Viola said, “I’ll return to Chronos’ room and keep an eye on him. Carver, please go to your room for now.”

Carver grumbled as he complied, heading up the stairs to the upper level. However, inside his head, he had other plans.

A little while later, the Goldwing household was quiet. Viola was tending to Chronos, while Vylon and Cosmoz were out. Carver, however, was restless. He opened his room door, looked around, and then slowly snuck his way toward another room.

He thought, “I cannot let this go. Chronos and I may not always get along, like typical siblings, but he’s my brother. I won’t let his pain go unpunished.”

He entered another room. It looked like a library or study room. On top of a fireplace were four cards in protective plastic sleeves. He approached them, then took three of them off the mantelpiece, took them out of their sleeves, and returned the sleeves to their original position.

“Sorry, father, but I cannot just stand idly by and let Chronos’ suffering go unpunished. I’m gonna use these Numbers to deliver swift justice. The sooner I get this over with, the sooner we can stop having Lucifer bark orders at us. Watch out, Django, because you’re going down.”

He opened up a portal, took one last look around, and entered the portal. It closed up behind him, with Carver heading straight to Cyber City.

Meanwhile, at their usual meeting spot, the gang had gathered. They were discussing the recent events.

Fiona said in a worried tone, “I hope Chronos is okay. I know you were holding back, Django, but he was only half Psykinox, which means your powers far outstrip his. I just hope he’s doing okay.”

Django nodded, “Me too. I was really worried about him during the Duel, doing everything I could to restrain my powers enough so any damage he took wouldn’t be fatal. My powers may be underdeveloped, but even so, I’m far stronger than he is. So I hope he’s recovering well enough.”

Cody said, “What I’m worried ‘bout is that his family might come lookin’ for you, D-Man. I mean, even though it was unavoidable, and he was the one who issued the challenge, you did hurt ‘im, and they might not take that so well. I just hope we don’t run into a vengeful member of his family. Especially his father, as Chronos did mention that his dad is very strong.”

Tempest nodded, “Indeed, and since Chronos’ father is much more aware of his power and heritage, he would be a dangerous foe. Let’s just hope that Chronos will help spread word that you are a Spirit so we don’t have to worry about it.”

Jack spat, “That dirty, scheming rattlesnake Lucifer is behind all this. I bet he doesn’t care what happens to anyone, as long as he gets what he wants. Man, I’d love to rearrange his face for what he’s done.”

Leo replied, “Same here, but I think only Django would have the capability and power needed to challenge Lucifer. But enough of that, what should we do today?”

A voice spat, “How about I destroy you, Django!?”

They turned around to see a portal open up, and out emerged Carver. His eyes spelled death and he glared at the gang.

Tempest asked, “Who are you? Are you working for Lucifer?”

Carver spat, “My name is Carver Goldwing, and you hurt my younger brother, Django! As for Lucifer, I’m not working for him. While he did tell my family to hunt you down, I’ve made it a personal goal to crush you. You will pay for hurting Chronos! So arm yourself with your D-Pad, because it’s time to die!”

Django replied, “Hold on, calm down, don’t get so worked up. I know I hurt Chronos, but I did my best not to hurt him badly. I’m not your enemy. Lucifer is the enemy. So try to calm down…” but was cut off.

“I DON’T CARE!!! I don’t care about Lucifer or anything like that! All I want is to crush you for hurting my brother! So enough of your excuses: get out your D-Pad and get ready to Duel!”

With a sigh, Django complied, taking out his tournament D-Pad and usual Duel Gazer. Carver armed himself with his custom D-Pad, which looked like a warped axe blade, blood red in color, attached to a gold gauntlet. He then donned his Duel Gazer, which was a green lens surrounded by a warped grey gear-shaped frame with a bladed antenna behind his right ear. The rest of the gang had donned theirs as well, worried at what was going to happen. Django and Carver then channeled their energies into their D-Pads, creating the psychic field.

They both drew their starting hands, Life Points set at 4000.

“Let’s Duel!”

Django touched his deck, “I’ll open things up, if you don’t mind. I Draw!” He looked at his new card before saying, “It’ll be a quick one. I play a monster in Defense Mode and two cards face-down to call it a turn.”

Carver huffed, “Is that the best you can do!? Then this’ll be easy! It’s my turn, I Draw!” He took a card from his hand, “I Summon Gimmick Puppet Egg Head in Attack Mode!”

Gimmick Puppet Egg Head was a strange-looking monster. Its main body was a mechanical orange egg, while its arms and legs were that of a white mannequin. Its strangely human face was molded out of the main body, with creepy blue eyes, a large nose, puffy lips, and had a curly blonde wig on top of its head. It was a Level Four monster with stats of 1600/1200.

Cody looked confused, “Gimmick Puppet? What’s a Gimmick Puppet?”

Tempest replied, disturbed, “I dunno, but that thing is creepy.”

Carver stated, “I activate Gimmick Puppet Egg Head’s ability. By discarding one Gimmick Puppet monster, I can either deal you 800 points of damage or change this monster’s Level to Level Eight. I think I’ll activate the first effect. So I discard my Gimmick Puppet Dreary Doll to deal you 800 points of damage!”

He discarded a card from his hand then Gimmick Puppet Egg Head opened up its body and fired several bombs at Django. The inventor braced himself as the bombs blasted around him, but remained rooted to the spot. His Life Points dropped by 800 to 3200.

“Now Gimmick Puppet Egg Head, attack his face-down monster!”

Gimmick Puppet Egg Head opened up its body again and fired more bombs, this time directed toward Django’s hidden monster. Just before the attack could land, the monster was revealed. It was a male, four winged angel with short blonde hair, golden feathers, and was wearing a white toga-like outfit adorned with golden accessories. It was a Level Four monster with stats of 1400/800. It was effortlessly destroyed by the attack. Django, however, was smiling.

He stated, “Thanks for doing that. You destroyed my Shining Angel. When it’s destroyed in battle and sent to the Graveyard, I can Special Summon any LIGHT monster from my deck with 1500 or less Attack Points. So I think I’ll summon my Silent Swordsman LV3 to the field!”

A card was ejected from his deck, which he played right away. Silent Swordsman LV3 looked like a child version of the Duel Spirit. He was short yet lean, with bluish skin, wild blonde hair, and an almost cute face. He was garbed in a dark blue coat with silver accents, matching boots and armor, large white gloves, a large belt, and had an overly large black helmet with two blade-like protrusions, one in the front and one on the left side, crossing each other, while part of the helmet covered his right eye. In his hand was a large broad single-edged sword that was nearly as big as him. He was a Level Three monster with stats of 1000/1000.

Carver merely huffed, “I place one card face-down to end my turn. Not like that mini swordsman will do you any good.”

Django grinned, “Don’t be so sure about that. But for now, it’s my turn, I Draw!”

Silent Swordsman LV3 started to glow, confusing Carver.

Django explained, “On my Standby Phase after he was summoned, I can send Silent Swordsman LV3 to the Graveyard to Special Summon his evolved form, Silent Swordsman LV5 from my hand or deck! So I’m gonna do just that! I send my Silent Swordsman LV3 to the Graveyard to summon Silent Swordsman LV5 in Attack Mode!”

Silent Swordsman LV3 glowed then vanished in a flurry of sparkles. At the same time, Django’s deck ejected another card, which he played. The sparkles then reformed into a new form. Silent Swordsman LV5 looked about the same as his younger form, but he was taller, leaner, and broader. In his hand, resting on his right shoulder was a massive single-edged blade, as large as he was tall and broad as he was with a harpoon-like tip and had a large hilt with two extra round plates of metal, giving it three gripping places. He was a Level Five monster with stats of 2300/1000.

“But I’m not done yet. I summon Fairy Archer to the field in Attack Mode!”

Fairy Archer was a female fairy with pale skin, brown hair in a bun, and orange veined dragonfly-like wings. She was garbed in a blue tunic with matching tights, blue knee-high boots, and white gloves. She had several large leaves attached to her middle, giving her a leaf skirt, and was holding a large golden bow. She was a Level Three monster with stats of 1400/600.

“Now I activate her special ability. Once a turn, I can have her shoot down 400 Life Points from you for each LIGHT monster on my field. She cannot attack the turn she uses this ability. I have two LIGHT monsters: Silent Swordsman and herself, you take 800 points of damage! Now my Archer, take aim and take out 800 of his Life Points!”

Fairy Archer summoned an arrow from thin air, loaded it onto her bow, and took careful aim. The tip of the arrow, which was round, started to glow, before she fired it, creating a light trail behind it. It slammed into Carver, exploding on contact, sending him flying and landing with a thud. His Life Points dropped down by 800 to 3200.

Jack grinned, “Awesome! Now they’re both even in Life Points, but it’s still Django’s turn!”

Django stated, “Now it’s time to scramble your Egg Head! Silent Swordsman, attack Gimmick Puppet Egg Head! If my knowledge of the Gimmick Puppet archetype is correct, then Egg Head is the strongest main deck monster in the archetype! So by taking it out, I’ll take out your strongest deck monster! Go Silent Swordsman! Attack with Silent Sword Slash!”

Silent Swordsman LV5 held his massive blade in both hands, jumped high up, and quickly barreled down. Carver, who was obviously agitated, wasn’t finished.

“I activate the Spell: Limiter Removal! This doubles the Attack Power of all Machine monsters on the field for the duration of the turn! However, any monster affected by it is destroyed at the End Phase of the turn! So my Egg Head will become stronger than your Swordsman!”

Gimmick Puppet Egg Head started to glow. Its power then doubled to 3200. It opened up and got ready to fire. Django, however, was ready.

“I had a feeling that was going to happen, so I was prepared! Activate Trap: Dark Bribe! I bribe you by allowing you to draw one card and in exchange the last Spell or Trap you played is negated and destroyed. So draw your card and say goodbye to Limiter Removal.”

Carver cursed under his breath as he drew a card then watched as Gimmick Puppet Egg Head’s power returned to normal. Silent Swordsman LV5 continued his attack undisturbed, bisecting Egg Head easily. Egg Head exploded, sending Carver flying back and landing with a thud. His Life Points dropped by 700 to 2500.

“I place one card face-down to end my turn. You’re up, Carver, but maybe now you’ll see that I’m not your enemy. Look at yourself. Are you in any great pain?”

Carver stood up, dusting himself off, and looked himself over. To his surprise, other than a sore backside, he wasn’t in any great pain.

He thought, “This is a Psychic Duel, yet my pain isn’t that bad, except where I sit. My clothes also look undamaged. Is he… holding back?” He shook his head sharply before stating angrily, “Are you playing me for a fool!? You’re holding back! What, do you think I can’t handle a Psychic Duel!? Are you just messing with me!? You’ll pay for this! I’ll make sure you are crushed for not only hurting my brother, but for the fact that you’re treating me like an inferior Psykinox!”

Cody snapped, “Watch yer mouth! D-Man’s not treatin’ ya like an inferior anythin’! He’s tryin’ not to hurt ya, because he’s a good person! Don’t you even know what he’s been through!? You should be more focused on helpin’ us get rid of Lucifer and NOT goin’ after D-Man!”

Carver merely huffed, “Yeah, like I’d listen to a dimwitted redhead. And I thought blondes could be brainless.”

Cody flew into a rage, ready to charge in, but had to be restrained by Jack, Leo, and Fiona, who was struggling to keep him in one place.

Fiona grunted, “Calm down, Cody! This is no time to pick a fight! Let Django handle this guy.”

Leo nodded, “Yeah, so calm down, buddy! This Carver guy is a Psykinox, which means his powers could turn you into a pretzel if he wanted to, so try not to make the situation worse!”

Django stated strongly, “Cody, at ease! Leave him to me, so try to relax.” He turned to Carver, “But Cody is right. I’m not treating you any less that what you are. I’m trying not to hurt you, as I’m not the kind of guy who wants to hurt someone. Especially considering that you seem to know very little of what has transpired over the years. Don’t you see that Lucifer is lying to your family, turning you into assassins so he doesn’t have to do anything himself? He’s the enemy, not me. Your brother, Chronos, could see that, so how come you can’t?”

Carver spat, “Don’t you DARE talk about my brother! You HURT HIM!!! I will make you pay! So enough chit-chat! It’s my turn, I Draw!” He looked at his new card before saying, “I activate Gimmick Puppet Dreary Doll’s ability from my Graveyard. By banishing any Gimmick Puppet monster from my Graveyard, I can summon Dreary Doll to the field! So I banish my Gimmick Puppet Egg Head to summon my Dreary Doll in Attack Mode!”

Inside the Graveyard, Gimmick Puppet Egg Head vanished, and shortly afterward the Graveyard Portal opened up. Out emerged a coffin, which opened up and revealed a new monster. Dreary Doll was a beat up female doll with blonde hair, a pink dress, white stockings, and red shoes. Her arms were bandaged up, while her head was partly wrapped in gauze, concealing her right eye. What looked like oil or black paint was leaking out of her hidden eye, along with stains on the gauze bandages and her dress. She was a Level Eight monster with stats of 0/0.

Leo grimace as he saw this monster, “That’s why guys shouldn’t play with dolls.”

Tempest felt a chill go up her spine, “I never liked dolls to being with, but that thing is making my skin crawl. But at least it’s not a major threat on its own. At least… I hope it isn’t…”

Carver sneered, “Oh, she’ll be a threat all right! But not alone! Next up, I summon Gimmick Puppet Gear Changer to the field in Attack Mode!”

Gimmick Puppet Gear Changer was a very strange monster. It was mostly a blue colored mannequin, but where its torso would be was a metal piece. Attached to that piece, jutting out, was a large mechanical structure, grey in color with several gears and a large rotating handle. One of the monster’s mannequin arms was attached to where its head would be, and was holding the end of the handle. It was a Level One monster with stats of 100/100.

Fiona slinked back a bit, “Okay, that thing is freaky. Are all the Gimmick Puppet monsters this… creepy-looking?”

Django replied grimly, “You have no idea. They are some of the most deformed and contorted monsters out there. But despite their lack of power, when used the right way, can be quite dangerous.”

Carver huffed, “You’ve got that right. Deformed or not, my Gimmick Puppets will have you begging for mercy, especially after what I’m about to do. I activate Gear Changer’s ability! I can target any other Gimmick Puppet monster I have and change Gear Changer’s Level to match the other monster’s Level. So I target my Dreary Doll, changing my Gear Changer from Level One to Level Eight!”

Gear Changer started to rotate its handle, making the gears inside the mechanical structure turn. It started to glow, and the stars representing Levels changed from one to eight.

Jack stated, “He’s now got two Level Eight monsters on the field. That can’t be good.”

“You got that right! I Overlay my Level Eight Dreary Doll and Gear Changer! With these two monsters, I build the Overlay Network! I Xyz Summon Number 15: Gimmick Puppet Giant Grinder in Attack Mode!”

Both Dreary Doll and Gear Changer became purple orbs of light, shot up into the air, and entered the galaxy-style Overlay Network. Out emerged a new sealed form. It looked like a mangled mess of parts molded into a heart shape. Slowly, the monster started to unfold. Before long, they were staring down at a demonic-looking creature.

Gimmick Puppet Giant Grinder was a massive black mannequin-like monster, though more human-like than the other Gimmick Puppets. It was so large that it had to prop up by a large metal platform, where on top was a small mechanical, almost demented puppeteer controlling it. Attached to its arms were thick cable-like strings supported by several large puppet controls, which the puppeteer was manipulating. Its long legs were supported by thick beams of metal, while in the center of its chest was a large, gaping hole. It had a very plain face with a headband, and on the headband was the number “15” written in curved lines and dots. Orbiting it were two purple orbs of light. It was a Rank Eight monster with stats of 1500/2500.

Cody exclaimed, “No way! A Number! And that’s one of the most foul-looking ones I’ve ever seen!”

Carver stated, “My Giant Grinder will destroy any chance you had of winning this Duel! Now I’ll activate its special ability! Up to twice per turn, during my Main Phase 1, by using one Overlay Unit, I can destroy one of your Special Summoned monsters. Also, if it was an Xyz Monster, I can hit you with damage equal to its original Attack Points! Now, I use one Overlay Unit to destroy your Silent Swordsman LV5! Say goodbye to your precious monster!”

Giant Grinder absorbed an Overlay Unit into its forehead, held out its hands, and several strings shot out of the fingertips. The latched onto Silent Swordsman LV5, who struggled to break free, but was pulled in regardless. He was mercilessly shoved into the hole in Giant Grinder’s chest, where a grinding noise could be heard. Everyone, even Fairy Archer, except Carver winced and closed their eyes as Silent Swordsman was cruelly ground up inside Giant Grinder. When the grinding noise had stopped, they looked back at the field.

Carver spat, “That’s just the beginning! Giant Grinder, attack Fairy Archer now!”

Giant Grinder released a whip-like attack from its hands, ready to strike down Fairy Archer. Django, however, was prepared.

“I activate my Trap! Scrap-Iron Scarecrow! Once a turn I can negate an attack and set this card back down! So my Archer isn’t going anywhere!”

Scrap-Iron Scarecrow appeared, blocking the attack. Even Fairy Archer gave a sigh of relief before the Trap returned to its original position. This annoyed Carver thoroughly.

He growled, “You got lucky this time. I place two cards face-down to end my turn.”

Django touched his deck, “Good, then it’s my turn. I Draw!” He looked at his new card before activating it, “I activate Pot of Greed. I can draw two more cards from my deck.” He drew two cards, looked at them, and played one of them, “I summon Gagaga Caesar in Attack Mode!”

Gagaga Caesar appeared on the field. He was a well-dressed monster. He was wearing a white emperor’s coat with long tails and matching pants, golden straps, white feathered shoulder plates, grey metal knee-high boots, and white gloves. He also had a large, flowing black and red cape, and his lower face was concealed by a black face mask, while his long wild blue hair was partly tamed by a gold headpiece with two wing structures. He was holding a long black staff with a large oval red gem surrounded by a gold frame on top. He was a Level Three monster with stats of 1800/600.

“But that’s not all. When I have a Gagaga monster on the field, I can Special Summon Gagaga Clerk to the field! So I summon her in Attack Mode!”

Gagaga Clerk appeared, giving a small twirl before standing next to Gagaga Caesar. The two monsters nodded at each other before getting into a battle stance.

“Next up, I activate Gagaga Caesar’s ability! I can banish any monster from my Graveyard with a Level, and in turn, Gagaga Caesar can change his Level, along with every other Gagaga monster on the field, to that Level. So I banish my Shining Angel to change both his and Gagaga Clerk’s Levels to Level Four!”

In his Graveyard, Shining Angel vanished, but a beam of light struck both Gagaga monsters. The stars representing their Levels changed: Gagaga Caesar’s change from three stars to four, while Gagaga Clerk’s changed from two stars to four.

Tempest smiled, “Awesome! He’ll probably summon Utopia now! Giant Grinder is in for it now!”

Django thought to himself, “Normally I’d call forth Utopia, but I can’t risk him right now. I’m gonna try a different tactic here. One that’s unexpected.” He then said aloud, “I Overlay my Gagaga Caesar and Gagaga Clerk! With these two monsters, I build the Overlay Network! I Xyz Summon Number 50: Blackship of Corn in Attack Mode!”

Both Gagaga Caesar and Gagaga Clerk turned into brownish orbs of light, shot up into the air, and entered the galaxy-style Overlay Network. Out emerged a new sealed form. This one looked merely like a large black cob of corn, but then started to unfold, revealing the monster.

Blackship of Corn looked like an old-style pirate ship made out of a black cob of corn. Its hull was shaped out of half of a corn cob with brownish black wooden parts creating the deck, bow, and stern. In front was a long wooden bowsprit with a smaller one jutting up at an angle just above it, and on each side were doors with hidden cannons. It had a large mast with a massive single white sail and on top of it was a tall crow’s nest. On the left side of the sail was the number “50” written in curved lines and dots, and orbiting it were two black orbs of light. It was a Rank Four monster with stats of 2100/1500.

Cody looked puzzled, “Blackship of… Corn? That’s a new one. Why didn’t he just summon good ol’ Utopia? Sure, this Number is stronger than Giant Grinder, but why summon it?”

Jack had an equally puzzled look on his face, “You got me, Cody. Maybe Django didn’t want to risk Utopia just yet?”

Tempest nodded, “I bet that’s the case. Utopia is his go-to Number, but it’s also his most used and well-known one, so he probably wants to avoid using a predictable strategy. But if he went the trouble to summon this Number, he must have a reason.”

Django stated, “You may think that this Number is a bit… corny, but you’d be surprised how useful it is. You’ll see how it’ll force you to abandon ship! I activate its special ability! By using one Overlay Unit, I can remove any monster on the field whose Attack Power is equal or lower than Blackship of Corn. Then it will deal you 1000 points of damage at the cost of Number 50 not being able to attack this turn. Note that I said it removes a monster on the field, not destroys it. That means any effects that trigger when a monster is destroyed will not be able to activate. So go, Blackship of Corn! Sink his Giant Grinder with your cannonballs!”

Blackship of Corn shifted around and then revealed its starboard side cannons. It fired two shots from the cannons, striking the area around Giant Grinder. This caused the Graveyard Portal open up, forcing Giant Grinder into it, slowing sinking into the portal like a struck ship. Carver watched in shock as Giant Grinder vanished below the surface of the portal, closing up shortly afterward. Blackship of Corn then aimed its cannons at Carver himself and fired some shots. They rained down upon him, creating several explosions that threw him off his feet. He landed with a heavy thud as his Life Points dropped by 1000 to 1500.

“Now, Fairy Archer! Attack him directly!”

Fairy Archer summoned another arrow, took aim, and prepared to fire. However, Carver roared and retaliated.

“I’m not out of this just yet! I activate the Trap: Xyz Reborn! Come back to me, Giant Grinder, and it gains this Trap as an Overlay Unit! So attack me if you dare!”

The Graveyard Portal opened up and Giant Grinder emerged from it. The Trap then transformed into an Overlay Unit and started to orbit Giant Grinder.

Django grimaced, “I cancel my attack, but I’m not done. I activate the Spell: D.D.R. - Different Dimension Reincarnation. By discarding one card, I can bring back a banished monster. So I discard this card to bring back my Shining Angel in Attack Mode!”

He discarded a card from his hand. Shining Angel then reappeared from the Banished Zone in an attacking position.

He thought, “I know he is going to use Giant Grinder’s ability to deal me massive damage. But I’m prepared. The card I discarded will keep that from happening. So go ahead and try, Carver, I’m ready.” He said aloud, “I end my turn there.”

Carver sneered, “Nice try, but not nice enough! I Draw!” He looked at his new card before activating it, “I activate Pot of Greed. Just like you, I draw two more cards.” He drew two more cards, looked at them, and then directed his attention to Giant Grinder. “Now I use Giant Grinder’s ability! By using its last Overlay Unit, I can sink your pathetic plant pirate ship and take a large chunk out of your Life Points! So say goodbye to your Number!”

Giant Grinder absorbed its Overlay Unit, and then attached several strings to Blackship of Corn, dragging it into its hollow chest. Once again, everyone except Carver winced and closed their eyes at the merciless treatment of Blackship of Corn. Carver was grinning almost evilly.

“Now, since Blackship of Corn was an Xyz Monster, I can deal you massive damage. 2100 points to be exact! So say goodbye to a huge chunk of your Life Points!”

Giant Grinder’s chest opened up even more, revealing a massive cannon. It charged up the energy before firing it directly at Django.

Leo cried out, “Oh no! Unless Django has a surprise up his sleeve, this will hurt a lot!”

Django smirked, “Don’t worry, Leo, I’m all over it! I knew you’d pull that, so I was ready. I activate the ability of Interceptomato from my Graveyard! By banishing this card, I can negate all effect damage I’d take this turn. Sorry, I won’t take any damage, so I’ll still be alive and kicking your tailpipe into next week!”

Interceptomato’s card vanished from the Graveyard, but at that moment, several tomatoes with faces, all wearing football helmets, congregated in front of Django. The blast collided with them, spattering them, but effectively stopping Giant Grinder’s ability dead in its tracks.

Tempest cheered, “Way to go, Django! Guess Carver’s attempt was… fruitless!”

Cody punched the air excitedly, “Yeah, buddy, that’s the way! Who would’ve guessed that one third of a BLT could save D-Man’s Life Points?”

Carver screamed in a rage, “I can’t BELIEVE you stopped my assault dead in its tracks with part of A SALAD BAR! You will pay for humiliating my Number with produce! I activate the ability of Gimmick Puppet Nightmare from my hand! I can Tribute one Xyz Monster on my field to Special Summon it. Since I no longer have any Overlay Units for my Giant Grinder, I Tribute it. But be warned, what I have planned will make you wish you never Dueled me!”

The Graveyard Portal opened up underneath Giant Grinder, causing it to vanish into it, closing up behind it. Then a new monster appeared. It looked like a massively mangled and contorted mess of purple mannequins all somehow connected together. The only parts that had “heads” were on opposite sides of the mangled mess, each head being ghostly white with spiked out blue hair. It was a Level Eight monster with stats of 1000/2000.

Fiona recoiled at this new monster, “Gimmick Puppet Nightmare is right! That thing will haunt my dreams for weeks! I hope it doesn’t stick around for long.”

Leo, who was also disturbed by it, said, “If I had to guess, Carver has bigger plans, so that mismatched monster is just one part of this equation. But I agree, I won’t be sleeping well either after seeing THAT thing. And some people think my terrors of the deep are scary. At least they’re based off real-life creatures, not lifeless things.”

Carver sneered, “I’m hardly done. If you have monsters on your field while I only have Gimmick Puppet monsters on mine, I can Special Summon Gimmick Puppet Magnet Doll from my hand! So I’m gonna do just that!”

A new monster appeared. Compared to some of the past Gimmick Puppet monsters, this one was relatively “tame” in appearance. It was merely a mannequin constructed of simple magnetic pieces, mostly orbs and bars. It was a Level Eight monster with stats of 1000/1000.

Jack grimly said, “He’s now got two Level Eight monsters on the field. This can only mean trouble.”

Carver laughed, “For once, an intelligent statement! I Overlay my two Level Eight Gimmick Puppets to build the Overlay Network! I Xyz Summon a creature that will pull all of your strings, then cut them when you’re just above your doom! I Xyz Summon the mighty Number 40: Gimmick Puppet of Strings in Attack Mode!”

Magnet Doll and Nightmare became purplish orbs of light, shot up into the air, and entered the galaxy-style Overlay Network. Out emerged a new sealed form. It resembled a purple orb surrounded by a light blue mechanical joint and a white mechanical angel wing draped over it. Slowly it unfolded until a new monster was standing before them.

Number 40: Gimmick Puppet of Strings looked like a massive mechanical warrior, though its structure was very human-like. It had long thin arms and legs, cobalt blue in color, each with several rings attached to the lower portions of its arms and legs. It had a skirt made of metal plates, similar to a Roman or barbarian waistcloth, each adorned with metal rings on top. Its torso was large, but also bisected, with the left side of it being held to the right side by long strings, revealing an empty interior. It had armor plates on its right shoulder and was holding a large, double-edged triangular sword with a gold hilt. On its left side was a single, massive wing with sharp white “feathers”, all connected by a thick wing frame and attached to its left arm. Its head was vaguely human-like, with sharp facial features, glowing eyes, and a wild mess of green hair. On the larger portion of the wing frame was the number “40” written in curved lines and dots, with two purple orbs of light orbiting its body. It was a Rank Eight monster with stats of 3000/2000.

Carver laughed, “Stare into the monster of your destruction, Django! You will not survive THIS onslaught!”

Django growled, “We shall see about that, Carver.”

Next Chapter: High Strung

Okay, finally got this done. I hope I described those deformed Gimmick Puppets well enough. Boy, even with most of the cards on-hand AND using the Yugioh Wiki for extra details and images, this was the best I could do. Hopefully it won't take me AS LONG as it did to get the next chapter finished. And you can tell that I'm now trying to break each Duel into at least a two-parter, as it's easier to write and grants me more time to better map out a game plan. But that's enough out of me. Later all!

Re: Psychic Duelist Django Spirit (Season 1: Number Hunters) (Chapter 23 Up!)

Dear lord, I finally have sometime to catch up on this FF. Who knew that uni can be this draining? I read chapters 14- 17 and hopefully, I will read the rest of the chapters by tomorrow.
The date in chapter 14 was amazing. It was so sweet. I was going to me.t at some point. I love that you imply elements of romance and real life stuff in a story of an advanced society like this. And zomg thank you for bringing back Vanessa!!! I really hope that she will be able to pull a win sometime soon. Chapter 15 was also nice. I really loved that Kain won and not Cody, I was rooting to Kain all the time. I would have been bothered if Cody won. Kain is a great duelist so it had to prove himself onscreen. You did a great jobs in chapters 16 and 17! Focusing on the twins is always great and I love how you are giving each character their fair amount of screen time. I eel that all the characters are growing in a positive way. I really hope that they will all play an important role by the time the main villain appears. And dear lord, thank you for giving us Vanessa again <3 i really hope that Vanessa will also end up with a no. That would be a nice wist. The best part about this FF is the way in which you are presenting the true spirit of sentai. Now I wonder if Jack is going to have trouble finding his no. Or if he is going o be down because he is the only one without a no.
EDIT: i just learned that you have won an award for this FF. Congratulations!!! I am really happy for you. I told you that it is a great FF from the beginning :)

Re: Psychic Duelist Django Spirit (Season 1: Number Hunters) (Chapter 23 Up!)

@WindBlast; Thanks for the kind words, old friend. And to answer a few questions: 1) Jack may or may not get a Number, at least atm. Since he's the Tristan/Duke of the series, he's not much of a Duelist, but I may give him a Number if I can think of one that would work for him, but probably not until Chaos Control at this point. (Plus I need to wait until more Numbers are revealed to actually decide if a Number is suitable for him or not.) 2) Vanessa won't get a Number, but she will get a CXyz, as will Roger, her soon-to-be partner in crime (both will end up the Weevil/Rex of the series), so she'll gain a bigger role in the series at that point, but again, not until Chaos Control (where the history behind Barian's Force and such is revealed). And I will give you a spoiler, but just in case no one else wants to know it, it's in the spoiler tag.

Kain will obtain his own Number: Number 62: Galaxy-Eyes Prime Photon Dragon, to be exact. Django will permit him to use it to help, but then allows him to keep it later on.

Anyway, that should cover things for now. I have to get to work on Chapter 24 soon before I let that one get delayed as long as Chapter 23 was. Thanks again for your kindness and support, it means a lot to me.

Re: Psychic Duelist Django Spirit (Season 1: Number Hunters) (Chapter 24 Up!)

Okay, got this done faster than the last chapter. Sometimes you just have to sit down, give yourself a kick, and just do it instead of overthinking. Time for the conclusion of Django's and Carver's Duel. Will Django prove to the hotheaded Goldwing his heritage as a Spirit? Read and find out.

High Strung

Django looked upon the field. Carver had just summoned Number 40: Gimmick Puppet of Strings in Attack Mode, one card face-down and 1500 Life Points left. Django had Fairy Archer and Shining Angel on the field in Attack Mode, one card face-down and 3200 Life Points left. The rest of the gang was watching on the sidelines, worried looks on their faces.

Tempest said, “This is bad. That Number is powerful. One strike on any of Django’s monsters and his Life Points will take a serious hit. I hope Django has a plan, otherwise this Carver guy will be a problem if he wins.”

Jack stated, “What I want to know is how many Numbers this guy has? Chronos had two: Machu Mech and Atlandis, while so far Carver has played two as well. I hope that this Number 40 is the last of his Numbers, or this Duel could get even uglier.”

Carver stated, “Stare into the monster of your defeat! Now Gimmick Puppet of Strings, attack Fairy Archer!”

Gimmick Puppet of Strings raised its sword and charged. Django, however, was far from done.

The inventor stated, “Don’t think so! Don’t forget about my Scrap-Iron Scarecrow! Or do I need to refresh your memory? Once a turn I can negate an attack, and I’m gonna do just that!”

Scrap-Iron Scarecrow popped up again, getting in between Fairy Archer and Number 40. It effortlessly blocked the attack before returning to its original position.

Carver growled, “Dammit! I forgot about that Trap! That has got to be the most annoying Trap of all! But don’t think you’re out of the woods just yet! I activate Gimmick Puppet of Strings’ special ability! Once a turn, I can use one Overlay Unit to attach one String Counter on every other monster on the field. Come your next End Phase, all those monsters will be destroyed, and you’ll take 500 points of damage for each monster destroyed that way! So do your stuff, Gimmick Puppet of Strings!”

Gimmick Puppet of Strings absorbed an Overlay Unit, then fired several strings into the air. They latched onto Shining Angel and Fairy Archer, suspending them in midair.

Cody sputtered, “Oh no! Unless D-Man can either Tribute Summon them or find another way of removin’ Shinin’ Angel and Fairy Archer from the field, he’s gonna take 1000 points of damage at the end of his next turn!”

Carver stated, “That’s correct. But with no cards in his hand, there is no way he can get rid of those String Counters before his monsters go ka-boom. With that I end my turn.”

Django stated, “Then it’s my turn, I Draw!” He looked at his new card before activating it, “I activate the Spell: Pot of Avarice! By shuffling five monsters from my Graveyard back into my deck or Extra Deck, I can draw two more cards. So I’ll return five monsters, including Number 50, back to where they belong and draw two more cards!”

He took five monsters, including Blackship of Corn, out of his Graveyard, returned them to their rightful places, and then let his D-Pad shuffle his deck. He drew two new cards, looked at them, giving a small smile.

He thought, “This combo should help. I won’t be able to stop the String Counters from destroying my monsters, but at least these two cards will help mitigate the damage AND give me another chance to fight back.” He said aloud, “First, I place one card face-down on the field. Then I activate the Spell: Mirage of Nightmare. On your next Standby Phase, I can draw until I’m holding four cards. But, if the card remains on my side of the field upon my next Standby Phase, I have to discard the same number of cards. But I’m not worried about that. Next up, I activate Fairy Archer’s ability! She will deal you 400 points of damage for each LIGHT monster on my field. I have two, so you take 800 points of damage!”

Even though she was being suspended by strings, Fairy Archer managed to load up an arrow on her bow and took aim at Carver. She fired her glowing arrow, which struck him hard, knocking him back, reducing his Life Points by 800 to 700.

“And with that I end my turn.”

Carver stated, “Not quite. My String Counters activate! Say goodbye to your monsters AND 1000 Life Points!”

The strings attached to Fairy Archer and Shining Angel sent energy into them, causing them to be overwhelmed and self-destruct. Django was engulfed in two large explosions, but managed to remain upright. His Life Points dropped by 1000 to 2200.

Carver stated, “Now that that’s taken care of, it’s my turn. I Draw!” but was interrupted.

Django stated, “Not so fast! My Mirage of Nightmare activates! I get to draw until I’m hold four cards!” He drew four cards from his deck, then stated, “But I’m not done! I activate the Spell: Emergency Provisions! I send any number of Spells or Traps to the Graveyard and gain 1000 Life Points for each one. So I send my Mirage of Nightmare to the Graveyard and gain 1000 Life Points. A classic combo, but it works well.”

Mirage of Nightmare glowed then vanished in a flurry of sparkles. Django’s Life Points increased by 1000 back to 3200.

Leo cheered, “Yeah! Way to go, Django!”

Fiona smiled, “I knew he had a plan! He always does.”

Jack grinned, “Awesome. Django managed to restore his hand AND restored his Life Points by the same amount he lost due to those String Counters! Brilliant, as always.”

Carver growled, “That was a clever move, but this Duel is far from done. I activate the Spell: Trade-In! I can discard a Level Eight monster from my hand to draw two cards. While my hand size won’t change, it gives me another chance to crush you. So I discard another Gimmick Puppet Dreary Doll to draw two more cards.”

He discarded another Dreary Doll to the Graveyard, following up by drawing two more cards. He looked at them, smiling.

“I activate the Spell: Poison of the Old Man! I can either restore my Life Points by 1200 or deal you 800 points of damage. I think I’ll take the first option, despite the fact that inflicting pain on you is very tempting. So my Life Points increase by 1200!”

As he said this, the Spell Card stated to glow, and he was showered by several golden sparkles. His Life Points jumped by 1200 to 1900.

“I know that annoying Trap, Scrap-Iron Scarecrow, is still in play, so I won’t attack you… right now, but that won’t matter soon. I end my turn with one card face-down, not like you can fight back much.”

Django stated, “Don’t be so sure! It’s my turn, I Draw!”

Carver cut him off, “I activate my Trap! Dust Tornado! Say adios to your Scrap-Iron Scarecrow!”

A large tornado formed, engulfed Django’s face-down Trap, and blew it away.

Annoyed, but not deterred, Django looked at the card he drew, thinking, “Hmm… good ol’ Dark Magician. And I’ve got Buster Blader and Polymerization, too. I know that, even after this combo, my new creature won’t be strong enough, but my other cards should help.” He stated aloud, “I activate the Spell: Polymerization! This allows me to fuse my Dark Magician and Buster Blader in my hand to form a new monster! You’re about to meet an old reliable friend from long ago, and I think it’s time he had some more fun!”

He activated Polymerization, allowing both Dark Magician and a new monster to appear on the field shortly. Buster Blader was an impressive-looking monster. He was a powerful swordsman garbed in sturdy, yet flexible, full-body armor, mostly violet in color with gold accents. His chest, shoulders, and back of his head were encased in armor very similar to Dark Magician’s, only slightly sharper with extra spikes. His neck was cocooned in grey metal bands, while his entire head was covered in violet smooth armor with two long, jagged antenna-like structures on his temples, revealing only his glowing red eyes. In his hand was a massive curved, single-edged blade with an impressive golden hilt, a matching strip of metal traveling up the blunt end of the blade, and studded with several sapphire blue gems. He was a Level Seven monster with stats of 2600/2300.

However, he and Dark Magician started to overlap, then were swallowed up in a vortex, merging their bodies together. Out emerged a new monster.

“Welcome back my old friend: Dark Paladin! It’s been a long time.”

Dark Paladin looked very much like the Dark Magician. His body was encased in powerful full-body armor similar to Buster Blader’s, only it was cobalt blue in color with gold accents, sharper in design, and had the same cloth draping down from his waist and back that Dark Magician had. Nestled inside the large shoulder plates and tall armor on his back was the only visible part of Dark Paladin’s body: his face. His skin was now a grayish blue, long grayish blonde hair framing his face, and piercing red eyes. In his right hand was a similar blade to Buster Blader, but the blade part was shorter and more jagged, with three sharp gold rings molding it into a more saw-like shape, attached to a very long staff-like hilt. He gave his weapon a swing before facing the field, a determined look on his face. He was a Level Eight monster with stats of 2900/2400.

Leo was star-struck, “No way! Dark Paladin! I remember him from a lot of Django’s old tournament Duels! They say he’s Django’s oldest and most-used Fusion Monster. But it has been a while since Dark Paladin has appeared, and he hasn’t been used since before our group was formed. But still, Dark Paladin looks just as awesome as always!”

Django smiled, “It’s been a long time, Dark Paladin. Sorry I haven’t used you much lately, but I need your help now.”

Dark Paladin replied with Dark Magician’s voice, “No problem. It’s been a while since I’ve flexed my fused muscles like this, but I’m always here to help. You can always count on me.”

“Thank you, old friend.” He then turned back to the Duel, “While I may not be able to mount an attack on your Puppet of Strings just yet, I’m far from done. I place two cards face-down to end my turn.”

Carver stated, “Your efforts will be in vain! I Draw!” He looked at his new card, smiling, “You’re in for it now. First off, I activate the effects of both of my Dreary Dolls in the Graveyard. I banish Gimmick Puppet Gear Changer and Gimmick Puppet Giant Grinder to summon both of them to the field in Attack Mode!”

Gimmick Puppet Gear Changer and Gimmick Puppet Giant Grinder vanished from the Graveyard, but in their place, two Gimmick Puppet Dreary Dolls appeared.

“Next, since I control only Gimmick Puppet monsters, I can summon another Gimmick Puppet Magnet Doll to the field from my hand!”

Gimmick Puppet Magnet Doll appeared on the field, standing next to both Dreary Dolls.

Fiona said, “Oh, great, he’s now got three Level Eight monsters on the field. This isn’t good.”

“That’s right, little girl! I Overlay my two Dreary Dolls and my Magnet Doll! With these three monsters, I build the Overlay Network! Arise, Number 88: Gimmick Puppet of Leo in Attack Mode!”

All three Gimmick Puppets became purplish orbs of light, shot up into the air, and entered the galaxy-style Overlay Network. Out emerged a new monster.

Number 88: Gimmick Puppet of Leo was a large monster. So large that it didn’t have a sealed form. It was a massive monster, sitting on an impressive throne. It looked like a mechanical knight or king wearing silver and gold armor, a long red cape, and large sashes across its body. In its hands, the tip resting on the ground, was an enormous blade. Its head looked like a lion’s with a silver face, a gold mane, and glowing eyes. Orbiting it were three purple orbs of light. It was a Rank Eight monster with stats of 3200/2300.

“Next I activate my Megamorph Spell! If my Life Points are lower than yours, my monster’s power is doubled! But if my Life Points are higher, then my monster’s power is cut in half. Since my Life Points are lower than yours, my monster, in this case Gimmick Puppet of Strings, will have its power doubled to 6000! Time to say goodbye! Gimmick Puppet of Strings, attack his Dark Paladin now!”

Gimmick Puppet of Strings, whose power was now doubled from its original 3000 to 6000, charged in to destroy Dark Paladin.

Django retaliated, “I’m not done yet! I activate my Traps: Gagagashield and Damage Diet! Damage Diet will cut all damage I take this turn in half, while Gagagashield will protect my Dark Paladin from destruction by becoming an Equip card! It can only be equipped to a Spellcaster, so Dark Paladin will do nicely! I’m not done yet, so bring it on!”

Dark Paladin gained a strong-looking shield, which he held in front of him with his left arm. Gimmick Puppet of Strings’ sword clashes with the shield, sending massive shockwaves from the attack. Dark Paladin was able to endure the attack, the shield was undamaged. Django’s Life Points, however, weren’t as fortunate. Damage Diet, however, activated, reducing the damage dealt. Django felt his Life Points drop by 1550 to 1650.

Carver growled, “Then take this! Gimmick Puppet of Leo, attack Dark Paladin now!”

Gimmick Puppet of Leo stood up, raised its sword, and slammed it down upon Dark Paladin. Gagagashield managed to block the attack, while Damage Diet did its magic and reduced the damage. Django felt his Life Points drop by another 150 to 1500.

Carver stated, “So, Dark Paladin managed to endure both strikes, but you’re looking battered up. My next move is one you are familiar with. I use Emergency Provisions to send my Megamorph Spell to the Graveyard and gain 1000 Life Points. That way, now that my Life Points are higher than yours, I won’t feel the negative side-effect of Megamorph.”

Megamorph vanished in a flurry of sparkles, returning Gimmick Puppet of Strings back to its original value. He smiled as his Life Points increased by 1000 to 2900.

“And with that I end my turn. But I must warn you something. Next turn, I’ll activate my Gimmick Puppet of Leo’s ability. Since I have no Spell or Traps on my field, I can use an Overlay Unit once a turn to put a Destiny Counter on Gimmick Puppet of Leo. Once it has three of them, I automatically win the Duel. It may cost me my Battle Phase for the turn, but that won’t matter. Your Dark Paladin will never be able to stop my monsters before your countdown ends. Face it, it’s over.”

Django, who was battered and bruised, stated strongly, “As long as I have a turn, then I’m not done yet. As long as I can draw one more card, then I’m still in this. I will never give up. I will make you see the light, Carver. Your brother knew who I was from the start: a Spirit, but it’s obvious you’re blinded by your rage, so you are not able to. All it takes in a single turn, a single card, and I will show you the truth.”

Suddenly, Django started to glow, his aura becoming visible. At the same time, the rest of the gang’s auras appeared. Then they all shot up beams of light that gathered together, then a massive beam of light struck Django. Carver and everyone else had to shield their eyes as Django transformed.

A voice stated, “When a Soul Network has been created and the light of hope shines brightly, then nothing is impossible! When the shining rays of hope, love, and friendship unite, a new power is created. The power to turn all darkness into light. A power that can shape worlds, and breathe new life into all of existence. The power of Numeron has been awakened. The power of… DIVINE SOUL MODE!!!”

When the light subsided, Divine Django was standing before them. His eyes showed determination, his body overflowing with power, leaving Carver dumbfounded.

“N-No way! I-It can’t be! That can’t be Divine Soul Mode! You… you ARE a Spirit!!!” Carver sputtered in shock.

Tempest cheered, “Yeah, Divine Django has joined the party! You’re in for it now, Carver!”

Cody grinned, “Awesome! And you know what that means, right guys? Destiny Draw!”

Django stated, “I told you, Carver, yet you wouldn’t listen. Your brother, Chronos, knew it, but this form proved it. Now you see that I am indeed a Spirit family member. Maybe now you’ll listen to me. But unfortunately, I’m gonna have to end this Duel to further prove my point. I’m sorry to do this, but you leave me no choice.”

Divine Django’s hand started to glow, raising it up into the air. A golden card formed on top of his deck.

A voice stated, “A truly powerful Duelist can shape the Duel to his will. He can even generate the very card he needs!”

“Go, Destiny Draw!”

Carver was even more alarmed, “Destiny Draw as well!? This isn’t good!”

Django looked at the card, smiling, “For once, we are in agreement! Appear before us, Divine Weapon! Go, DW – Falcon Falchion!”

A new monster appeared before them, emerging from the glowing card. It was a mechanical falcon, mostly blue in color, but with gold wing and tail tips, a silver beak, and red eyes. It was a Level Three monster with stats of 1000/1000.

“Now I equip Falcon Falchion to Dark Paladin! This will boost his power by 1000, but that’s not all he’ll gain!”

Falcon Falchion turned into a beam of light, striking Dark Paladin’s weapon. It transformed into a large, powerful-looking falchion blade, blue in color, with a falcon’s head in front of the hilt, and the tail feathers acting as the grip. Dark Paladin swung the weapon quickly as his power increased by 1000 to 3900.

“Now, Dark Paladin! Attack Gimmick Puppet of Strings! When my monster attacks while equipped with Falcon Falchion, your monster’s special abilities are negated. That means, even though it’s a Number, it is now susceptible to destruction in battle by a non-Number! So go, Dark Paladin! Attack with Sonic Boom Slash!”

Dark Paladin jumped into the air, blade held high, before he came crashing down upon Gimmick Puppet of Strings. The strike bisected Gimmick Puppet of Strings, before it was engulfed in a powerful explosion. Carver was thrown back from the attack, his Life Points dropping by 900 to 2000.

“But that’s not all! When a monster equipped with Falcon Falchion successfully destroys a monster, it can attack again! So Gimmick Puppet of Leo is next on the list! Go Dark Paladin! Attack again with Sonic Boom Slash! And once again, Falcon Falchion negates your monster’s abilities during the attack, so Gimmick Puppet of Leo is going down!”

Dark Paladin turned his attention to Gimmick Puppet of Leo, crouched down, then sprung toward it, blade held high. With a powerful horizontal slash, Gimmick Puppet of Leo was slashed in two, including its sword and throne. It too was engulfed in a powerful explosion, throwing Carver further back. His Life Points dropped by 700 to 1300.

“You know what happens next, don’t you? Because Dark Paladin destroyed your monster, it can attack once again! It’s over, Carver! Maybe now you’ll listen to reason instead of letting your rage and emotions blind you from the truth! Dark Paladin, attack him directly! End this Duel with Sonic Boom Slash!”

Carver watched in horror as Dark Paladin turned to face him, held his blade, then charged in for the killing blow. One swipe was all it took to send Carver flying, landing with a heavy thud on the ground, his Life Points dropping to zero. A “Win” screen appeared and the psychic energy field vanished. The gang was cheering happily, exchanging high-fives and other motions. Django returned to his normal form, then ran over to Carver, concern in his eyes. When he reached the teen, he held out his hand.

“Need a hand, Carver?”

The teen stated, confused, “Why are you helping me? I attacked you for no legitimate reason at all. I was so blinded by my rage and anger I didn’t even consider the fact that you might be a Spirit. I don’t deserve your help.”

Django shook his head, “Not true, but maybe now you’ll be more likely to listen instead of jumping to conclusions and charging in without thinking. You do realize now, however, that Lucifer lied to you and your family. For that matter, then entire Psykinox race as well. But here, let me help you up.”

He hoisted Carver onto his feet. He staggered briefly, but managed to regain his balance. He turned his head away in shame.

“I’m sorry. I made a huge mistake. I can see now that Lucifer is the enemy, not you. I feel so ashamed that I let my emotions get the better of me. Don’t get me wrong, I hate Lucifer, but I foolishly believed his lies. No wonder Chronos is better at making friends than me… I jump to conclusions way too easily, which creates a bad situation for me and everyone else.”

“That doesn’t mean we can’t be friends, Carver. Just try to be more rational and not let your emotions get the better of you. Lucifer murdered my family… the whole Spirit name, for that matter, yet I survived. Even though he took away my beloved family, I am not out to get him for revenge. No, not the slightest bit, as I know the path of revenge will make me no better than he is. Use this as an example. But we can still be friends.”

A portal opened up behind Carver, but he smiled.

“Thank you. I’m so sorry about all this. Please, take my Numbers, you may need them in the fight ahead. I never knew anyone could be as forgiving as you. You really are a Spirit. I should be ashamed because I thought they were all dead. Now I know the truth. Farewell for now, Django Spirit.”

He walked into the portal and vanished. However, his Numbers remained, floating in front of Django. They disappeared, causing his deck holder to glow briefly, it returned to normal shortly afterward. Django looked up at the sky as his friends gathered around him.

Back at the Goldwing household, Viola walked up to Vylon and Cosmoz. She seemed distressed.

“Vylon! Carver is missing! He wasn’t in his room when I went to check up on him! I hope he didn’t do something reckless.”

Cosmoz added, “I also noticed that three of our Numbers are gone. It’s safe to say he decided to challenge that Django guy. I hope he’s okay.”

Just then, a portal opened up, and Carver walked out of it.

Vylon stated, “Carver! Where have you been!? What happened to the Numbers!?”

However, before he could respond, Carver passed out. Both his father and Cosmoz caught him before he could hit the ground. The eldest son looked his brother over.

“Hmm… he was in a Psychic Duel… and lost. It’s safe to say that Django beat him. I can also sense the residual energy from the three Numbers on him. Looks like he lost those as well. Father… what should we do?”

Vylon said solemnly, “I… I don’t know at this point. Is this Django friend or foe? Is he a Spirit or a traitor? I just don’t know. But… for now, we have to treat your brother. At least, on the bright side, Chronos has almost completely recovered. He woke up earlier before falling back asleep, so at least he’ll be back on his feet soon. Come on, Cosmoz, let’s get Carver into his room and treat him. We’ll decide what to do about Django later.”

As Vylon and Cosmoz carried Carver up to his room, Viola helping, all three of them were confused at what was happening. At the same time, Chronos’ eyes opened up for a moment.

He muttered, “Django Spirit… I’ll help you fight Lucifer… I promised I would… Django…” before he fell asleep again.

Next Chapter: Truth

Okay then! Talk about an epic conclusion to the Duel! And, judging by the next chapter, you should be able to tell what the theme of it will be. It looks like all will be revealed soon. But, even so, will Vylon still go after Django? Find out next time!

Re: Psychic Duelist Django Spirit (Season 1: Number Hunters) (Chapter 25 Up!)

Okay, finally stopped being lazy and got this chapter finished. Though, to my defense, due to Spring coming into effect, I've been feeling rather ill. Simply put, I hate Spring and everything associated with it. Give me Winter any day! But enough of that, here's what you're all here for.

Truth

In the Goldwing household, Vylon was pacing back and forth in the living room. Cosmoz was tending to Carver while Viola was keeping an eye on Chronos. In his head, Vylon was unsure of what to do next.

He thought, “I don’t know what to believe anymore. Chronos and Carver were beaten in a Psychic Duel against this Django, losing their Numbers in the process. We now have only three Numbers left, two of which are with me, while the final Number is with Cosmoz. Lucifer ordered us to kill this Django, claiming him to be a traitor, but I’m not sure if that’s truth or fiction. This Django is obviously a full-blooded Psykinox, but it appears he restrained his powers so that both Chronos and Carver wouldn’t get badly hurt. That makes me unsure if this Django is really a traitor or not. I mean, if he was a traitor, Chronos and Carver could’ve come home in worse shape… if not dead. What do I do?”

Meanwhile, in Chronos’ room, Viola was watching her youngest son sleep. His injuries were gone, but he was still resting. She gently stroked his head, concern in her eyes. Just then, his eyes started to move. Slowly, he opened them, looked around, and then turned to his mother.

“Mom? Is that you?” he asked wearily.

She smiled, “Chronos, I’m so glad to see you awake. How do you feel? Are you in pain?”

He replied, “No, I’m okay. Just a bit stiff, but nothing hurts. How… long have I been in bed?”

Viola replied, “Over a week now. You had me worried, son. A lot has happened since you’ve been asleep. And now Carver is bedridden as well.”

His eyes widened, “Carver’s been hurt!? But how? Why? What happened to him!?”

“He let his emotions and rage blind him, so he took three of our Numbers and challenged Django. He lost both the Duel and the Numbers, and now he’s in bed in the same condition you returned in.”

Chronos sat up, “Oh no… that’s not good. Django isn’t our enemy, but obviously Carver jumped to conclusions again. Lucifer is our real enemy. Where’s dad? I need to tell him something important.”

His mother got up, “I’ll see if I can find him. He’s been worried sick about you and Carver, so I’m not sure what condition he’ll be in.”

Just then, Cosmoz entered the room. He looked worried.

“Mother! Huh?” He noticed Chronos was up, “Chronos! You’re awake. Thank the Numeron. We were worried about you.”

Viola said, “Cosmoz, why do you look worried? Did something happen?”

“Huh? Oh, right. Father just left through a portal. I don’t know where he’s going. I hope he isn’t going to do something drastic because of what has transpired lately. I was going to talk to him about what to do with this Django guy, but he was gone before I could make it all the way down the stairs.”

Chronos looked alarmed, “Oh no! Cosmoz! We have to find dad before he goes and challenges Django! This is urgent!”

He tried to get up, but his mother pushed him back down.

She stated, “Chronos, stay in bed. While your injuries are gone, thankfully, you’re still in no condition to do anything. I don’t want to take another chance and see you get hurt again. So stay down.”

Cosmoz stepped up, “Mother, let him up. It’s obvious he knows something important. I know you were worried, we all were, but if there is something we don’t know and if father does something desperate, it could be catastrophic. Chronos, tell me what you know.”

Chronos sat up, “Thank you, Cosmoz. Django isn’t our enemy. He is a Spirit. And not just any Spirit. He is the son of Astral and Elna, our former leaders. He has both Divine Soul Mode AND Destiny Draw at his disposal. Lucifer has been lying to us the whole time. Lucifer murdered the Spirit family in an attempt to gain ultimate power. Only Django survived the attack. Django is trying to stop him before he can cause any more damage. And it is obvious Lucifer knows that Django is a Spirit, as apparently he’s been trying to kill him a few times behind our backs. He lied to all of us, and we believed it. Django is our rightful leader, not Lucifer, and that miserable Bloodlust member knows it. We have to stop Lucifer before it’s too late, otherwise the world will be at his mercy, including our race.”

Cosmoz’s eyes were wide in shock. He remained silent for a few minutes, thinking things over. Viola looked very worried after hearing all that. Finally, the eldest child spoke.

“Lucifer… I knew a Bloodlust couldn’t be trusted. But I never suspected that he would have the power to topple the entire Spirit family. I know his family embodies the power of Barian, but he seems stronger than that. The only other Bloodlust with that kind of power was the original Lucifer, his greatest ancestor. This is bad… very bad. We have to find father before Lucifer pressures him any more into killing our rightful leader. Unfortunately, I don’t know where to start looking. There has to be something we can do before father charges in and tries to kill Django.”

Chronos suggested, “Find Django instead. If dad ends up challenging Django without knowing the truth, it could be a disaster. Django resides in Cyber City. Find him, and I bet father won’t be far behind. His usual hangout is in the largest city park, and he has five other friends. Django has white hair with a large headband, emerald green eyes, wears glasses, and has a large gold ring on his right wrist. His other friends can also help you identify him. One is a female Elemental with long green hair, one is a tall redhead, another one is even taller with hair stylized like an arrowhead, and two of them are young teenage twins, a boy and a girl, with sky blue hair. You’ll have to go quickly, before dad finds him.”

Viola asked, “You’re not going to challenge him, are you, Cosmoz? I don’t want you returning in the same shape as your brothers did.”

Cosmoz shook his head, “No, there is no need to challenge him now. Django is a Spirit, which means he is not our enemy. Lucifer is our enemy. I’ll find him and see if I can stop father from doing something dangerous before it’s too late. Chronos… thank you for relaying this information to us. Too bad we didn’t know beforehand, when you first came home. But better late than never, I guess. I’ll head out now and see if I can track Django down before father or Lucifer does. Wish me luck. Mother, keep an eye on Carver. Chronos is well enough that he can take care of himself now, but Carver still needs tending to. Chronos, I want you to see if you can track father’s Duel Gazer. Let me know as soon as you can if you pick up its signal. He probably won’t have it on, or may not answer any calls right now, but if you can at least find out where he is, that’ll help. I’m off. I’ll report back soon.”

With that, a portal opened up, and the eldest son ran into it, closing up behind him. Viola, although reluctant, got up, walked to the door, and out of Chronos’ bedroom. Chronos got up and got dressed into his usual attire. He looked out his window, his gentle eyes showing concern and worry.

“I hope this works. If dad or Lucifer finds Django before Cosmoz does, then it could be a disaster. But I can see how strong Django is, so even if that happens, I know he’ll be able to hold the line long enough for the truth to be revealed. I just hope that’s enough. I better get to work in tracking down dad before things get out of hand.”

Meanwhile, in a hidden location, Vylon was climbing up a set of somewhat ruined stone steps. His eyes showed determination. When he got to the top, Lucifer turned to him. He was still donning his cloak, but Vylon could see the mild surprised look on his face.

Lucifer said, “Vylon, what a surprise to see you. But what I’m most surprised about is that two of your sons have failed. You know perfectly well what will happen if you fail the assignment I gave you. So what brings you here?”

Vylon, though nervous internally, stated strongly, “Lucifer! Tell me the truth! Is this Psykinox you ordered me to kill a real traitor or not? And for that matter, is he really a Spirit or not? I had my doubts about your instructions for a while now, but ever since Chronos and Carver came back with less severe injuries than one would expect from a Psychic Duel, I have been thinking. Tell me! Are you lying to us, or is this Psykinox you speak of really a threat?”

Lucifer quirked an eyebrow, “Vylon, I’m shocked at you. You think that I might be lying to you? You know perfectly well that the Spirits are gone, everyone knows that. If you don’t believe me, I can tell you where they are buried. I know what I’m talking about, though. This Psykinox traitor is a threat, he’s just making it seem like he’s not, but will really strike when least expected. You must stop him at all costs; otherwise our race could be destroyed. Or… are you, perhaps, a traitor to us?”

Vylon countered, “I’m hardly a traitor, and the more I think about it, the more I feel you’re lying to us! You’re a Bloodlust, after all. Your family is known for deception and treachery. What’s saying you don’t know more than what you’re telling us? Out with it!”

The dark Psykinox was now agitated. He held out a hand, levitating Vylon off the ground. The other Psykinox was feeling a psychic grip around his neck, crushing his throat. He strained to breathe, trying desperately to break the link with his own power, but was no match for Lucifer’s power.

The dark Psykinox growled, “Watch your tongue when speaking to your leader, Goldwing. The Spirits are dead, I am in command, and a traitor is a traitor. I can very easily shatter your mind and soul with my supreme powers, so I’d advise you to watch what comes out of your mouth when in my presence. What I say is law, and I order you to destroy this traitor. Otherwise I’ll make sure YOU are labeled as a traitor. And you know traitors are not tolerated among our kind. Do I make myself clear? Do as I say, or you and your precious family will be destroyed by the great power of Barian! Got it!?”

He released Vylon from his powers, causing the Goldwing to crash in a heap on the ground. He struggled to regain his breath, gasping and choking as he tried to bring oxygen back into his system. When he finally managed to regain his composure, he glared at Lucifer.

“Clear as crystal… Lucifer…”

Lucifer sneered, “That’s a good boy. Now do as I say or you and your family will be wiped out of existence! Get out of my sight and don’t return until you have killed that backstabbing Psykinox!”

Giving the dark Psykinox one last glare, Vylon opened up a portal and left the area. When the portal closed up behind him, Lucifer summoned another crystal.

“I better keep an eye on him, just to make sure. He’s smart, I’ll give him that, but he is no match for my great power. But Django will be a problem, especially since the power that exists in him… Numeron… is getting stronger by the day. If he is not eliminated soon, the power of Numeron will have the ability to crush my wondrous power of Barian, and keep me from my goal, even destroy me. I cannot let that happen. If Vylon fails, then I will swoop in and kill them all. I’d rather not, but killing that Django would be satisfying, since I failed to do so the first time. He won’t survive this time.”

He then broke into a fit of diabolical laugher, which quickly escalated into a hysterical, deranged laugh.

At that time, Django and the others had gathered at their usual spot. They were discussing the recent events that had occurred.

Fiona said, “I hope Carver is doing okay. I know he targeted Django out of revenge, but now that we’re allies, I hope he’ll recover from that Duel.”

Leo nodded, “Yeah, me too. Sure, Carver first came off as a jerk, but it’s obvious that he was just trying to help his family, so he isn’t all bad. Just a bit too easily consumed by his emotions, that’s all.”

Django replied, “Well, I did everything in my power to keep the damage from the Psychic Duel down to a minimum, but even so. I just hope their father doesn’t come after me out of revenge. But it’s obvious that Lucifer instructed them to attack me, so he’s the real problem. I wish there was an easier way to prove that I’m a Spirit family member without having to resort to Divine Soul Mode and such. It could prevent innocent people like Chronos from getting hurt.”

Just then, a portal opened up nearby. The gang turned to it, bracing themselves for what may emerge. A few moments later, Cosmoz exited the portal, it closing up behind him. He looked in their direction, but once his eyes locked onto Django, they widened in surprise.

He walked up to them, “You… you’re Django, right?”

Django replied, “Yes, I’m Django. Who are you?”

“I am Cosmoz Goldwing, eldest child in the Goldwing family. I have come looking for you.”

Cody got in between them, “Yeah? Well if yer here for a Duel out of revenge, then I suggest you beat it! Otherwise D-Man will defeat ya!”

Cosmoz stated calmly, “Relax, I am not here to fight. It’s obvious that what happened with Chronos and Carver has made all of you tense. But I am not here to fight. No, not the slightest bit. I’m here only to talk.” He turned to Django, “Your father and mother were Astral and Elna, correct?”

The inventor nodded, “Yes. Astral and Elna were my beloved parents… until Lucifer brutally murdered them.”

“Yes, I was informed of that by Chronos. I’ve seen your parents in one of my father’s and mother’s old wedding photos. As soon as I saw that headband and gold ring, I knew you were their son. Both were their respective trademark items, so seeing you with those items allowed me to make the connection. I never got to meet them, but I know they were good people. And I know the truth behind what has transpired, thanks to you and my younger brother, Chronos. I hold no grudge against you for hurting him and Carver, as I can see it in your eyes that you are a kind, gentle person. And having tended to my brothers, I can see you restrained your powers so they wouldn’t get too badly hurt. I thank you for that.”

Tempest asked, “I take it there is more of a reason for you being here than to just talk. Am I right?”

Cosmoz nodded, “Yes, that is correct, young Elemental. I came to also warn you. My father may be on his way to attack you, so I hoped that I could find you first to alert you to a possible threat. I know that Lucifer is behind all of this, but Vylon is torn between his duties as a Psykinox and his duties as a father. I’m glad I found you before my father could attack you, but I predict the attack may be soon. I also came to inform you that you have my full support. I never liked Lucifer, and I always felt that a Bloodlust could never be trusted. I suspected that a Spirit might still be alive, as the power of Numeron, you family’s great energy, was still going strong, and I’m glad to see I was right. But I advise you to be careful, as my father may be on his way.”

Jack asked, “Is there any way you can stop him from attacking Django?”

“I will try, but I doubt it’ll be enough. And I doubt that even with your parents’ trademark items, my father may not totally know you are a Spirit. I will try to keep him from doing something reckless, but I don’t know if it’ll stop him or not.”

Just then, his Duel Gazer in his pocket started to go off. He took it out and turned it on. Chronos appeared on-screen.

“Cosmoz! I’m glad I got you. Father is on his way to Cyber City! I managed to track him down, and he had returned to the secret underground city of the Psykinoxes. I bet he tried to confront Lucifer to learn the truth, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Lucifer forced him to attack. He will arrive shortly, so please, try to stop him from attacking Django.”

The eldest Goldwing son nodded, “Thank you, Chronos, for everything you’ve done. I’m with Django now, and I will see if I can stop father from attacking him. But if your theory is correct, then I doubt that anything will stop what’ll happen next. But I will do my part and try to keep this nightmare from escalating the best I can. Thank you for your help, Chronos. I ask you to try to track down Lucifer’s energy signature. If he’s aware of what might happen, he may try to make a move if the plan fails. So keep me posted on any action involving Lucifer.”

“Got it, brother. Lucifer will be easy to track, as his energy signature is quite large. I’ll let you know of anything that might occur. Just try to keep Django safe. I know he’s very able and strong, but I worry what father and Lucifer might do, so please do what you can. I’ll keep you posted.”

With a final nod, Cosmoz turned off his Duel Gazer. He turned to Django’s group, looking grim.

“Well… I hope you’re ready, Django, as you may be in for a Duel momentarily. I know you’ve been in two Psychic Duels against my brothers, so I hope you’ve healed up enough to fight. I will try my best to stop father, but if Lucifer is putting a lot of pressure on him, I don’t know if it’ll be enough.”

Django sighed, “At least I know I can avoid Dueling you, seeing how you know I am who I am. And I appreciate that you’ll try to help me uproot that Lucifer, even if you can’t stop your father. I just hope your family can forgive me.”

Just then a voice said, “I’m not sure what’s going on, but I know that something big is about to happen.”

They all turned to see Kain and Nicholas walk up to the group.

Cody snapped, “And why are you here, rich boy?”

“Zip it, Lionheart. I came here to Duel Django, but if what I heard is correct, then I may have to get in line. This Lucifer guy… is he the same one who gave me Number 107?”

Cosmoz looked annoyed, “You have met Lucifer? And he loaned you Number 107? Why would you accept a deal from a devil?”

“That is none of your business. But judging by what you said, Lucifer is the same guy who uses Number 107. But what I don’t get is how Lucifer fits into this whole equation. After losing to Django and having Tachyon Dragon taken back, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about what happened. I admit I was a fool to accept his power, but that hasn’t stopped me from trying to find any Numbers I can. But what I really don’t get is how Lucifer is at all involved in this. What is he, anyway?”

Just then another portal opened up and out emerged Vylon. As soon as he laid eyes on Django, he knew something wasn’t right.

He thought, “That hair, those eyes, and that headband and gold ring. They all tell me that this Django is the son of Astral and Elna. I can feel it, too, he is their son. But… I have no choice in the matter.” He said aloud, “Django, I challenge you to a Psychic Duel!”

Cosmoz walked up to Vylon, “Father, you can’t! Django is the son of Astral and Elna! He is a Spirit, meaning he’s our rightful leader of our race. Lucifer has lied to all of us. He killed Astral, Elna, and the rest of the Spirit family. He is our enemy, not Django, so please don’t do this!”

Vylon said sadly, “I’m sorry, my son, but I have no choice. I tried to confront Lucifer, but he was just too powerful. I can truly see that Django is the son of Astral and Elna, but I have no choice but to battle. If I don’t, Lucifer will attack you and everyone else in our family, and I do not want to see any of you get hurt anymore. I’m sorry, but if I don’t, Lucifer will kill you, your mother, and your brothers.” He turned to Django, “Django, I can see you are a Spirit, as I knew your parents, Astral and Elna, well, but you must battle with me. I’m sorry, but this must be done! I cannot bear to allow Lucifer to attack my family, so please forgive me for what I’m about to do.”

Django sighed, “I know how you feel. Lucifer robbed me of my family. I can see the love you have for your wife and children. I have no choice but to accept this. Maybe we’ll find a way to protect all that is precious to us after this Duel, and find a way to stop Lucifer once and for all. But, for now, arm yourself with your D-Pad and let’s get this over with.”

Next Chapter: Sphere of Chaos

Okay, a bit of a short chapter, and mostly dialog, but it appears that Lucifer's plans may start to unravel. Not only does Maxwell know the truth, but now the Goldwing family. Still, that's not enough to stop what's next. Tune in next time. Same thread, same Duel Time!

Re: Psychic Duelist Django Spirit (Season 1: Number Hunters) (Chapter 26 Up!)

Slow day today (other than my usual Sunday bowling and soon-to-be on AFV program), so I got writing. Got this done quite quickly. Might as well post it now, before I forget. So here we are, Chapter 26 is on the air!

Sphere of Chaos

Django and Vylon were standing opposite each other. On the sidelines were the Legendary Number Hunters, Kain, Nicholas, and Cosmoz. Cosmoz looked depressed, knowing perfectly well what was going to happen.

He thought, “That rotten Lucifer. He knew all along that Django was alive and our rightful leader. And it’s obvious that father sees it, too, but they are forced to battle with each other. I hope this all works out for everyone, otherwise we’ll be at the mercy of that murderous Bloodlust.”

Vylon stated, “I know you are a Spirit, Django, but I must fight. Please, forgive me for this, but I must do what I can to protect my family. I’d rather not go full-force, but if I don’t, Lucifer will know. So prepare yourself for a powerful Psychic Duel!”

Django stated strongly, “Then let’s get this going! D-Pad, let’s go!” He armed himself with his tournament D-Pad, following it up with his Duel Gazer, “Duel Gazer, let’s rock and roll!”

Vylon armed himself with his D-Pad, which looked like a gold metal fan with several large spikes at the top, a triple looped symbol on the back, similar to an infinity symbol, attached to a golden gauntlet. His Duel Gazer was fairly simple, consisting of a gold round lens attached to a “V”-shaped green frame with a blade-like antenna behind his ear. Then, both D-Pads started to glow as the Duelists channeled their energies into them, before releasing the energies into the air. However, this time, something different happened. The energies collided with each other, creating a small orb in the air, which rapidly started to expand. When it reached a certain size, which was about as large as half a city bus, it floated off the ground. Just then, Django and Vylon vanished in a flurry of sparkles, reappearing in the sphere, floating freely within it.

Cody stated, dumbfounded, “Okay, now I’ve seen everythin’. What the heck is that?!”

Cosmoz explained, “Father and Django had to increase the output of their psychic energies to a very high level. They created what’s known as a Psycho Sphere Field. It is the highest-level Psychic Duel setup. In it, there is very little gravity, so every attack will send them flying and bouncing around inside the walls of the Sphere Field. However, as the output of psychokinetic is very high, the danger to both of them is also very high. Any damage will be magnified, making it a dangerous type of Duel. I just hope Django is able enough to endure it.”

Kain, who was utterly confused, asked, “Psycho Sphere Field? Psychic Duel? What the hell are you talking about?! What kind of a Duel is this!?”

Tempest explained, “Django is a Psykinox, a type of highly evolved humanoid that possess innate psychokinetic powers. He can use them for a lot of things. It also explains his super intellect, as Psykinoxes are naturally extremely intelligent. As for a Psychic Duel, it’s a type of Duel where the monsters become real and the damage is real. Their Life Points can pretty much equal their very life’s energies, so any damage to their Life Points is damage to their bodies and minds, making it very dangerous.”

“And you expect me to believe that?”

Nicholas chimed in, “I think I’ve heard of the Psykinoxes. Back when dad was alive, there was an old book on ancient civilizations in his library. I read it out of curiosity. It mentioned something about a super-intelligent race of highly-evolved humanoids with innate special powers. But there wasn’t much else, especially since the book was so old. So I guess it was talking about the Psykinoxes.”

Cosmoz nodded, “That is correct. Psykinoxes are exactly that. We are, in reality, the oldest race of humanoids, each born with special powers. While the type of psychokinetic powers are nearly identical between us, each one has a different level of power, just like how humans all have a different level of strength and intelligence. Django, despite his powers being unrefined, is actually one of the stronger ones, especially since he is the son of Astral and Elna, both very powerful. It’s in his blood as a Spirit, our greatest family name. But enough of that, you’ll just have to watch the Duel in order to get a better understanding of all this.”

Vylon stated, “Django, in this Psycho Sphere Field, the Duel increases to the highest stakes. I don’t want to do this, but if I don’t, my family will suffer. So draw your cards and let’s get this over with.”

Django, though reluctant, nodded. They both drew their starting hands, each with 4000 Life Points.

“Let’s Duel!” they said in unison.

Vylon touched his deck, “I’ll open things up. I Draw!” He took a card from his hand, “I summon Heraldic Beast Aberconway in Attack Mode!”

Heraldic Beast Aberconway looked like a slender violet and white dragon. Its slender hind legs were violet in color, but had white armor-like plating on the thighs, each with a green spike on the knee, ending in three-clawed white talons with a matching heel spike. Its arms were very much the same, only totally white with a green spike on each elbow and shoulder, ending in sharp claws. It had large violet wings that were positioned lower on the body, near its waist, each equipped with a single green claw. Its neck was long and slender, ending in a narrow rectangular head with a mouth full of sharp teeth and glowing yellow eyes. While its head was mostly violet, the upper part of it was white armor-like plates, with a green spike on its nose and two white spikes near the back of its head, giving off the impression of ears. It was a Level Four monster with stats of 1800/900.

“I’ll end my turn with one card face-down. Your turn, Django.”

Django nodded, “Then it’s my turn, I Draw!” He thought, “The Heraldic Beast archetype, huh? I’ve only heard a bit about that archetype, as there are very few, if any, Duelists that use it. So this Duel will have plenty of twists and turns, I bet.” He said aloud while playing his new card, “I summon Alexandrite Dragon in Attack Mode!”

Alexandrite Dragon was a beautiful, jewel-encrusted greenish dragon. It had a bulky torso with a white underbelly, relatively small arms ending in two nailed claws, and large fanned-out wings. It had moderate sized hips with bulkier legs and thighs, ending in large three-nailed claws. It had a long tail and an equally long neck, ending in a square-like head with a strong jaw full of sharp teeth, glowing reddish orange eyes, and fin-like spines around its head. It was a Level Four monster with stats of 2000/100.

Nicholas stated, “Wow, those monsters look so much more realistic. Hard to believe they are just Augmented Reality.”

Leo said, “I suggest taking off your Duel Gazer for a moment, Nicholas, and you’ll see that this isn’t Augmented Reality.”

Confused, the younger Kannon brother complied, and nearly jumped in alarm.

“N-No way! I can see the monsters without my Duel Gazer!”

Kain, who was now also curious, took off his Duel Gazer, and to his surprise, could see everything as well.

He sputtered in alarm, “What’s the deal!? I can see those monsters in plain sight, like they were actually there!”

Fiona stated, “That’s because this is a Psychic Duel. The monsters and effects are real, not virtual. So any damage is real. The monsters and card effects are now in our realm, not a virtual realm, so everything that can happen is very much real. But, even so, having the Duel Gazer helps keep better track of what’s going on.”

The two Kannon brothers looked at each other, shocked, before they placed their Duel Gazers back on.

Meanwhile, back in the Duel, Django thought, “I know that card on Vylon’s field is a Trap, but I’m gonna have to attack. It might be more dangerous to leave it on the field. At least that way I can find out what he’s planning before it hits me unexpectedly.” He said aloud, “Alexandrite Dragon, attack Aberconway with Jewel-Encrusted Flame!”

Alexandrite Dragon reared up its head and fired a beautiful golden flame. Vylon was ready, however.

He stated, “I activate the Trap: Heraldry Change! This card not only stops your attack and ends the Battle Phase, but I can also Special Summon any Heraldic Beast from my hand! So I summon Heraldic Beast Twin-Headed Eagle in Attack Mode!”

Alexandrite Dragon’s flame was smothered out and a new monster emerged. It was a purple feathered flying monster. Its body was large and strong with matching wings, a tail split into three long, ribbon-like sections, and sharp yellow talons. Its torso was encased in light yet strong skull-shaped rust colored armor with also partly protected its wings. It had two long necks, each with a somewhat small bird head on them, with glowing eyes, sharp beaks, and a rust colored mask on each one. It was a Level Four monster with stats of 1200/1400.

Django thought, “I knew it was a Trap, but I had to activate it. So now I know what he’s up to. He plans to Xyz Summon next turn, so I’ll be ready.” He said aloud, “I place two cards face-down to end my turn. You’re up, Vylon.”

Vylon stated, “Then it’s my turn, I Draw!” He looked at his new card before activating it, “I summon Heraldic Beast Basilisk in Attack Mode!”

Heraldic Beast Basilisk looked like a cross between a dragon and a rooster. It had a purplish armored body with blue feathers sticking out from its exposed belly, dragonic hind legs, a long, slender tail, two spike-like front arms, and large dragonic wings. Its head was covered in blue feathers with a gold beak, glowing red eyes, a purple wattle, and a seemingly armored purple blade crest. It was a Level Four monster with stats of 1000/1400.

“Next up, I Overlay my Aberconway and Twin-Headed Eagle! With these two monsters, I build the Overlay Network! I Xyz Summon Number 8: Heraldic King Genom-Heritage in Attack Mode!”

Both Aberconway and Twin-Headed Eagle became green orbs of light, shot up into the air, and entered the galaxy-style Overlay Network. Out emerged a sealed form. It looked like a mask with long, flowing strands of blonde hair. Before long, the monster started to emerge from the sealed form, revealing its true form.

Number 8: Heraldic King Genom-Heritage had a distinct horse-like build. It had a very large and bulky black main body, but was covered in very regal-like “clothing”. The “clothing” consisted of an orange and blue tunic-like top with a series of gold and white chains woven into a long triangular front, a red blanket-like cloth covered its back and rear that fanned down into white and gold “feathers”. Its long, slender legs were mostly covered by tight orange sleeves, ending in point-like feet. Its neck was long and black, with several long white-blonde locks of hair on the back of the neck. Its head was somewhat small, mostly consisting of white-blonde hair stylized in a triangle shape, studded with gold chains, with two larger locks flowing around it, ending in more gold chains, giving it the impression of large pigtails. Its face was simply a white mask with narrow glowing red eyes, and the number “08” was written in curved lines and dots on the left side of its forehead. Orbiting it were two yellowish orbs of light. It was a Rank Four monster with stats of 2400/1800.

Kain sputtered, “This guy ALSO has a Number!? You’ve got to be kidding me! What’s the deal with that?! Why is it that Django and this guy can use Numbers yet I can’t!?”

Tempest growled at him, “Just shut up and watch the Duel, Kain. Django already explained it to you, so just deal with it.”

Vylon stated, “Now, I attack with my Heraldic Beast Basilisk! Go after his Alexandrite Dragon!”

Heraldic Beast Basilisk charged in to attack. However, Alexandrite Dragon merely opened its mouth and fired its golden flame attack, engulfing it. It was destroyed effortlessly, sending Vylon flying back until he hit the inner wall of the Psycho Sphere Field with a dull thud. He started floating about for a few moments before readjusting himself into an upright position. His Life Points dropped by 1000 to 3000.

Jack stated, “Why did he do that? He lost Life Points because of that attack, so why did he just destroy his own monster in a suicide attack?”

Cody suggested, “Maybe to activate its special ability?”

Vylon stated, “That’s correct. After damage calculation, when a monster battles with my Basilisk, that monster is also destroyed! So Alexandrite Dragon is no more!”

Just as he said that, Alexandrite Dragon’s body started to crack. It gave a roar before shattering, leaving Django exposed.

“Now, Genom-Heritage, attack Django directly!”

Genom-Heritage lashed out its long hairs around its neck, slashing and smacking Django. However, he was far from done.

“I activate the Trap: Defense Draw! During damage calculation, I can reduce the damage I take to zero and draw one card! So your direct attack did absolutely nothing!”

Django drew one card, looked at it, then added it to his hand. Vylon bit his bottom lip, but nodded.

He said, “I place two cards face-down to end my turn…” but was interrupted.

Django stated, “I activate my other Trap: Dust Tornado! This destroys one Spell or Trap on the field. So I think I’ll destroy your newly placed face-down card on the left!”

A massive tornado formed on the field. It swallowed up one of Vylon’s two face-down cards, revealing it to be Dark Bribe, before it was destroyed.

Leo smiled, “Smart move. Rather than take a chance, Django destroyed that Trap while it was defenseless, possibly keeping him from a nasty surprise.”

Vylon gave a small smile, “Impressive, Django. You knew that if you took out the Trap as soon as it was set, it could not be activated or protected right away. I can see how you defeated my sons. So with that I end my turn.”

Django smiled, “Then it’s my turn, I Draw!” He looked at his new card before playing it, “Goblindbergh, take to the skies!”

A trio of red monoplanes piloted by goblins appeared, all jointly hauling a large metal crate.

“When Goblindbergh is Normal Summoned, it can bring another monster with it. So I summon my Red Gadget in Attack Mode!”

The crate dropped to the ground before opening up, revealing a new monster. Red Gadget was a somewhat egg-shaped red machine monster. It body was rounded with a segmented middle, with grey metal arms, large red metal fists with gears around its wrists, grey thighs, and red calves and rectangular feet. Its head was dome-shaped with two yellow orbs in a somewhat uneven placement, with one being higher than the other, and on its back was a large grey gear. It was a Level Four monster with stats of 1300/1500.

The inventor stated, “That’s not all. When Red Gadget is summoned, I can add a Yellow Gadget from my deck to my hand.”

His D-Pad ejected a card, which he revealed, before adding it to his hand, his deck being shuffled automatically afterward.

“But I’m far from done. I activate the Spell: Double Summon. I can Normal Summon an additional time this turn. So I summon my Yellow Gadget in Attack Mode!”

Yellow Gadget had an upside-down yellow bullet-shaped body. Its arms and legs were grey spring-like coils, ending in large yellow hands and spade-like feet. Half of a large grey gear was positioned on its lower body, acting as its hips, with the top parts on its stomach and back. It had large square-shaped metal on its shoulders with a cylinder shaped “head” with a single glowing green orb. On the back of the cylinder was part of a gear, while two halves of a large gear was attached to its back and shoulders. It was a Level Four monster with stats of 1200/1200.

“Just like Red Gadget, when Yellow Gadget is summoned, I can add a Green Gadget from my deck to my hand.”

His D-pad ejected another card, which he took and revealed, before adding it to his hand. His deck was then automatically shuffled again.

Nicholas stated, “He’s got three Level Four monsters on the field. Is he gonna Xyz Summon?”

The inventor stated strongly, “I Overlay my three Level Four monsters! With these three monsters, I build the Overlay Network! I Xyz Summon Number 32: Shark Drake!”

All three monsters became brownish orbs of light, shot up into the air, and entered the galaxy-style Overlay Network. Out emerged a new sealed form. It looked like a large shark tooth with a disk in the middle. It started to unfold and before long a new monster appeared.

Number 32: Shark Drake had a dark red bulky body. Its torso was encased in two spade-like armor plates that jutted outward with another plate of armor stretching down to its waist. It had long fin-like arms ending in massive five fingered black claws. On its back was a pair of large dark red wings built similarly to its arms with blue undersides. Its lower body was slightly smaller, though its thighs were made of gigantic armor plating similar to its torso, narrowing as they got further down its “Z”-shaped legs, ending in fanned out five-toed claws. It had a long, fairly thick neck, and perched on top was a small head. Its head was a diamond shape with a square jaw full of dagger-like teeth, a large crest on top and a matching spike under its chin, glowing yellow eyes, and a pinkish spade-shaped plate on its snout. Orbiting it were three blue orbs of light, and on the left side of its chest was the number “32” written in curved lines and dots. It was a Rank Four monster with stats of 2800/2100.

Cody stated, “Wow, that Shark Drake is brutal! It looks like it could fit right in Leo’s deck of deep-sea monsters! It looks like it could shred a tanker ship with little problem.”

Leo nodded, “Yeah, it does look like a monster I would use. But I think it’s better that Django uses it. But it sure is powerful for a Rank Four monster, just look at those stats. Genom-Heritage is in for it now.”

Kain growled mentally, “Just HOW many Numbers does Django have!? What’s his secret to wielding such powerful cards?! I have to find out, so I can use one and crush him!”

Django stated, “It’s time to sink or swim! Go, Shark Drake, attack Genom-Heritage with Deep Sea Destruction!”

Shark Drake flew back before diving in at surprisingly fast speed. Its mouth started to glow, giving off a bluish aura, before it fired a jaw-shaped energy attack. It slammed into Genom-Heritage, biting it in two, causing it to explode in a fiery blast. Vylon cried out as he was thrown back, hitting the inner wall of the Sphere Field again with a dull thud. His Life Points dropped by 400 to 2600.

“Now I activate Shark Drake’s ability! By using an Overlay Unit, I can bring back the monster it just destroyed, only with 1000 Attack Points less, and Shark Drake can attack it again!”

Shark Drake ate one of its Overlay Units, and then fired a beam into the center of the field, which opened up the Graveyard Portal. Out emerged Genom-Heritage, but its power dropped by 1000 to 1400.

“Shark Drake, attack Genom-Heritage again with Deep Sea Destruction!”

Shark Drake flew up as far as it could, swooped back down, and fired another jaw-shaped energy blast. Once again, it chomped Genom-Heritage in two, engulfing it in another fiery explosion. Vylon, however, was prepared this time.

“I activate the Trap: Defense Draw! You know perfectly well what this does, Django. I can reduce the damage I take from that battle to zero and draw a card from my deck.”

He did so, drawing a card from his deck, looking at it, then placing it in his hand.

Django stated, “I place two cards face-down to end my turn.”

Vylon touched his deck, “Then it’s my turn, I Draw! I activate the Spell: Pot of Greed. I can draw two more cards from my deck.”

He drew two more cards, looked at them, and then activated one of them.

“I activate the Spell: Xyz Revenge! This allows me to target an Xyz Monster in my Graveyard and revive it. It also allows me to take one of your Xyz Monster’s Overlay Units and use it as one of my own. So I revive Genom-Heritage and steal one of Shark Drake’s Overlay Units!”

The Graveyard Portal opened up again, allowing Geno-Heritage to jump out of it, ready to fight. Then, one of Shark Drake’s Overlay Units left it and started to orbit Geno-Heritage instead.

Jack stated, “This is bad. I bet he’s planning on activating Genom-Heritage’s ability now!”

Vylon stated, “You’re half right. First off, I activate the Spell: Overlay Capture. Despite its name, instead of capturing your monster’s Overlay Units, it instead sends all of them to the Graveyard, then this Spell becomes an Overlay Unit for my Genom-Heritage! So say goodbye to Shark Drake’s last Overlay Unit!”

The Spell struck Shark Drake, causing its remaining Overlay Unit to enter the newly-opened Graveyard Portal, closing up behind it. Then the Spell transformed into an Overlay Unit and started to orbit Genom-Heritage.

“Now, as your friend said, I activate Genom-Heritage’s ability! Once a turn, I can target one of your Xyz Monsters on the field. Genom-Heritage’s name, abilities, and Original Attack become the same as your monster, while your monster’s power drops to zero, until the End Phase. So go, Genom-Heritage! Use your power to steal Shark Drake’s name and power!”

Genom-Heritage lashed out its long hair and struck Shark Drake. It started to drain the power from Shark Drake, making its body turn dark, its Attack Power dropping to zero. Then, Genom-Heritage started to transform. When the flash of light subsided, standing before them was an almost exact duplicate of Shark Drake, the only difference being that its face was that of Genom-Heritage’s. Its power jumped up from 2400 to 2800.

Cody sputtered, “Oh no! Now Genom-Heritage has Shark Drake’s power, and Shark Drake is powerless! Unless D-Man can pull out a fast move, Shark Drake is a goner!”

Django stated, “That’s exactly what I’m gonna do, Cody! I activate the Trap: Shadow Spell! This Trap ensnares your monster in dark chains, preventing it from attacking, defending, and even cuts its power down by 700 points! So Genom-Heritage won’t be landing any attacks on my Shark Drake!”

Several dark chains spawned from out of thin air, ensnaring and trapping Genom-Heritage in its dark power. They started to crackle with power, draining it, reducing its Attack Power by 700 to 2100.

Vylon stated, “That won’t be enough! I activate the Spell: Mystical Space Typhoon! Say goodbye to your Shadow Spell!”

A mighty typhoon was whipped up. It blustered around the field before slamming into the Shadow Spell Trap. It was shattered in an instant, causing the dark chains to vanish as well, returning Genom-Heritage back to its original power of 2800.

“Now, Genom-Heritage, attack Shark Drake with Deep Sea Destruction!”

Genom-Heritage launched into the air, swooped down, then fired a jaw-shaped energy attack; despite the fact it had no jaw. The attack barreled down toward the powerless Shark Drake.

Django stated, “I won’t go down that easily! I activate the Trap: Damage Diet! This card cuts all the Battle Damage I take this turn in half! While I’ll still take a hit, it won’t be as bad!”

Despite the Trap, Shark Drake was chomped in half, engulfed in a fiery explosion. The blast sent Django flying, causing him to crash into the Psycho Sphere Field inner wall with a dull thud, causing him to float around randomly. It took him a couple of moments to readjust himself into an upright position. His Life Points dropped by 1400 to 2600.

Vylon stated, “Don’t forget; my Genom-Heritage now has Shark Drake’s power! So I use an Overlay Unit to revive your Shark Drake, but with 1000 points less, and the ability to attack again. So do it, Genom-Heritage! Use an Overlay Unit and bring back Shark Drake for another beating!”

Genom-Heritage absorbed an Overlay Unit into its face, then fired a beam at the center of the field, opening up the Graveyard Portal. Shark Drake emerged out of it, but its power dropped by 1000 to 1800, leaving it vulnerable to another attack.

“Go, Genom-Heritage! Attack Shark Drake with Deep Sea Destruction!”

Genom-Heritage flew up to the top of the sphere, swooped down, and fired another jaw-shaped energy blast. Like before, it bit Shark Drake in two, causing it to explode in another fiery explosion. The attack sent Django flying back again, making him hit the Sphere Field wall with a thud. He floated around in a slight daze for a few moments before regaining his composure, returning to an upright position. His Life Points dropped by 500 to 2100.

Leo stated, “Well, that could’ve been worse. If it wasn’t for Damage Diet, Django’s Life Points would be in far worse shape. Now the two of them are nearly even in Life Points.”

Fiona said worriedly, “Yeah, but can Django turn this around? He lost a powerful monster, and Genom-Heritage can become any Xyz monster it pleases by using its ability. Even Utopia would be rendered powerless against it. I hope Django can find a way out of this, otherwise Lucifer will be the real winner of this Duel.”

Tempest clasped her hands together, worried, “Django, be strong. You have to pull though, or we’ll lose you forever to that murderous madman Lucifer.”

Vylon stated, “I’m sorry to do this, but it must be done. Fight me with everything you’ve got, or you won’t be the only one who perishes today.”

Django stated through gritted teeth, “I never back down or give up. I know you don’t want to do this, but I know it must be done. I’ll fight until my last breath, and I’ll make sure Lucifer does not get his way. That I promise!”

Re: Psychic Duelist Django Spirit (Season 1: Number Hunters) (Chapter 27 Up!)

God damn, I hate insomnia. I was up half the night, unable to relax myself enough to fall asleep. So, rather than just sit in bed and force myself to sleep, I got up and did something productive. In this case, wrote the next chapter. Don't worry, despite being a bit sleep deprived, I had someone else proofread it for mistakes, since, as stated before, I'm a terrible proofreader of my own work. But enough of that, let's move on to the main event.

Heraldry Havoc

Everyone was tensely looking at the current state of the Duel. Vylon had 2600 Life Points left with a transformed Number 8: Heraldic King Genom-Heritage on the field in the form of Shark Drake. Django, on the other hand, had no monsters and no Spells or Traps on the field, along with 2100 Life Points remaining.

Tempest asked, “Can Django pull a winner out of his hat, as things look pretty bad.”

Cody replied, “You got me, Tempest. At least it’s the end of Vylon’s turn, so we’ll see soon enough if D-Man can regain control. But that Genom-Heritage is a nasty monster. It can copy any opposin’ Xyz Monster’s name, power, and abilities, while renderin’ the original powerless. I sure hope D-Man has a plan, or this Duel could end in disaster.”

Vylon, who was battered and bruised, parts of his clothes torn, stated, “I think that’s enough for now, so I end my turn there. And now my Genom-Heritage returns to its original form and power. But I doubt there’s much you can do right now. You only have one card in your hand, Green Gadget, if I remember correctly, and that won’t provide you with much. You better do something, as I don’t want to feel like I killed our only hope. So it’s your move, better make it count.”

Django stated, though obviously worn and battered, “All it takes is one draw to change the flow of the Duel. It may not happen right away, but that one draw can make or break any Duel. So let’s get on with it.” He touched his deck, thinking, “Please, deck, I need your help. Give me something to work with, or at least something to buy me a bit of time to make a comeback later on.” He drew a card, “It’s my turn, I Draw!” He looked at it, smiling, “Sweet! I activate Pot of Greed! I can draw two more cards from my deck.”

He drew two more cards, looked at them, and smiled.

“First, I place this monster in face-down Defense Mode, followed by placing one card face-down, and then to wrap things up, I play Mirage of Nightmare. That’s all for now.”

Kain huffed, “I was expecting more than that. Not much of a move.”

Leo stated, “Not exactly, Kain. Django’s setting up his comeback. Plus I detect a familiar, classic combo, which will give him the edge he needs to perform a winning move later on. Just watch.”

Vylon stated, “I was expecting more. Whatever, it’s my turn, I Draw!” but was cut off.

Django stated, “Now Mirage of Nightmare activates! I can draw until I’m holding four cards in my hand, and I’m gonna do just that!” He drew four cards from his deck, “Next up, I activate my Spell: Emergency Provisions. So goodbye Mirage, hello 1000 additional Life Points!”

Mirage of Nightmare vanished in a flurry of sparkles, but similar sparkles were floating around Django, healing him. His Life Points jumped up by 1000 to 3100.

Vylon smiled, “A classic combo, indeed, yet very useful. Chronos likes that combo very much, too. Now you have a nearly full hand, which means your options are greater. But enough of that, it IS my turn, after all, so here’s MY move! I activate the Equip Spell: Big Bang Shot! This card not only boosts the equipped monster’s Attack Power by 400, but it grants it the ability to inflict piercing damage. So I equip it to my Genom-Heritage.”

Genom-Heritage started to glow with power as the Equip Spell boosted its strength, raising its Attack by 400 to 2800.

“Now, attack his defense monster, which is no doubt Green Gadget. It’s a good thing you boosted your Life Points, because after this attack, you won’t have many left. Attack now!”

Genom-Heritage lashed out its long hairs at Django’s face-down monster. It was revealed to be a green machine-like monster. Its main body was a large grey gear with a green interior, large link-like legs were attached to the bottom of its body, ending in green bullet-shaped feet. Its upper body was a somewhat bent green cylinder, with grey pipe arms ending in green fists, a gear at each end of the cylinder, a single tube of metal jutting up from its left shoulder, and a cap-shaped head with a single red orb in the middle. It was a Level Four monster with stats of 1400/600. However, it was destroyed effortlessly by the attack. Django was sent flying back, giving out a cry in pain, before he hit the Psycho Sphere Field inner wall, bouncing off it and floating around for a bit. After a few moments, he regained his composure, floated down back to his original position, and returned to a battle pose. His Life Points took a sharp drop from 3100 down to 900.

Fiona stated, “It was a smart move to use Emergency Provisions on Mirage of Nightmare, as that 1000 Life Points he gained is what managed to save him. Talk about a close shave, but Django is still holding on.”

Kain huffed, “Yeah, but not by much. Unless he has a hidden tactic up his sleeve, he better figure out a way out of this predicament, and fast, or he’s finished.”

Django stated, though worn down, “I told you I won’t back down. Even when backed into a corner I’ll still fight. The cornered rat will bite the cat, and that’s what I’m gonna do. So are you finished?”

Vylon looked surprised before responding, “I place one card face-down to end my turn.” However, he said mentally, “Django really won’t go down without a fight. I must say I’m impressed. It takes great skill and guts to be willing to fight to the bitter end, and he’s managed to hold on this long. He reminds me of his father, Astral, as both were fighters. He might be the only hope we have, but I sadly have no choice but to battle with him. I just hope he’ll last long enough to stop Lucifer.”

Django stated, “Good, then it’s my turn, I Draw!” He looked at his new card before using a different one, “I summon Breaker the Magical Warrior in Attack Mode!”

Breaker appeared on the field. He gave his sword a swipe in the air before returning to his position.

“And since I Normal Summoned a Level Four monster, I can summon Kagetokage from my hand!”

Kagetokage crawled out onto the field, its red eyes levitating off its shadow body, ready to battle.

“But wait, there’s more. I activate Breaker’s special ability. When it is Normal Summoned, he gains one Spell Counter. This Spell Counter gives him an extra 300 Attack Points, but that’s not what I have planned for it.”

The Spell Counter on Breaker’s shield started to glow bright blue, raising its Attack Power by 300 to 1900.

“That Spell Counter won’t be around for long, as I remove it to destroy one Spell or Trap on the field. So I chose to destroy your Big Bang Shot!”

Vylon sputtered, “Oh no! Not Big Bang Shot!”

Jack asked, “Why is Vylon getting all worked up over his Equip card getting destroyed.”

Kain replied acidly, “Because, dimwit, when Big Bang Shot is destroyed, the equipped monster is banished. Some strategists equip Big Bang Shot to an opposing monster, then destroy the Equip Spell, which will banish the opposing monster instead. That strategy can effectively remove a powerful monster from the field with less of a chance of it returning. So by destroying Big Bang Shot with Breaker’s ability, Django is effectively getting rid of Genom-Heritage once and for all.”

Breaker’s Spell Counter was removed from his shield, reducing his power back to 1600. But he then shot the Spell Counter at Big Bang Shot, destroying it. That, in turn, destroyed Genom-Heritage and made it disappear.

Fiona cheered, “Awesome! Now we don’t have to worry about Genom-Heritage making any encore performances anymore!”

Leo added, “Not only that, Django now has a clear shot at Vylon’s Life Points!”

Django stated, “With Genom-Heritage out of the picture, I can do some damage! I Overlay my Breaker and Kagetokage! With these two monsters I build the Overlay Network! I Xyz Summon Number 39: Utopia!”

Breaker and Kagetokage became purplish orbs of light, shot up into the air, and entered the galaxy-style Overlay Network. Out emerged Utopia, eager and ready to fight. It stared Vylon down with his fierce red eyes, making the Psykinox shrink back a bit.

He thought, “So that’s Django’s most famous Number. It looks powerful, and I bet it has plenty of surprises up its sleeves. I’d better be prepared for anything.”

Django stated, “Go, Utopia! Attack Vylon directly with Rising Sun Slash!”

Utopia drew one of his hip-mounted swords, tossed it into the air, and caught it in his right hand. He reared back, gave it a quick swipe, then charged in for the kill.

Vylon stated, “Don’t think it’ll be that easy! I activate the Trap: Call of the Haunted. Now instead of attacking me, you’ll have to attack one of my monsters! So I revive my Heraldic Beast Aberconway in Attack Mode!”

Django said strongly, “It won’t stop my attack! Utopia, attack Aberconway with Rising Sun Slash!”

Undeterred from the change in target, Utopia raised his sword up in the air, and came crashing down upon Aberconway, bisecting it with one strike. Aberconway exploded, sending Vylon flying back until he hit the Psycho Sphere Field wall, bouncing off and floating around for a bit. He managed to return to his original position, but obviously getting tuckered out. His Life Points dropped by 700 to 1900.

The inventor smiled, “I place two cards face-down to end my turn. You’re up.” He said mentally, “Utopia is one of my go-to monsters, and I doubt that Genom-Heritage was his only Number, so I have to be ready. If push comes to shove, I could always evolve him into any of his evolved forms, depending on the situation at hand, and depending if I get either Numeron Force or Limited Barian’s Force in my hand. But even if I have to resort to Utopia Ray, I have the Life Point requirement to activate his power. So, for now, I’ll just keep an eye on what’s going on and plan accordingly.”

Vylon stated, “Then it’s my turn, I Draw!” He looked at his new card before activating it, “I activate the Spell: Pot of Dichotomy! I target three monsters in my Graveyard with different types and return them to my deck. In exchange, I get to draw two more cards. The only catch is I cannot conduct my Battle Phase this turn, but that won’t matter much. So I return my Twin-Headed Eagle, Aberconway, and Basilisk back to my deck, shuffle, and draw two cards.”

He returned the three monsters he called out from his Graveyard back to the deck, being shuffled shortly afterward. He then drew two more cards, looked at them before activating one of them.

“I activate the Spell: Pot of Duality! This card lets me reveal the top three cards in my deck. I choose one of them, and then the other two are shuffled back into my deck. I cannot Special Summon this turn as an end result, but that doesn’t matter right now. So here I go.”

He revealed the top three cards of his deck. One was a Spell Card, one was a Trap, and the last one was a monster. Vylon looked them over before deciding.

“I think I’ll add my Heraldry Reborn to my hand. It may come in handy later. So the other two are shuffled back into my deck.”

He added the Spell Card to his hand before he shuffled the remaining two cards back into his deck. He then took a card from his hand.

“I place this monster in Defense Mode and end my turn.”

Kain looked puzzled, “That’s it? After all that, Vylon ended his turn with a face-down monster? Seems like a weak move, if you ask me. Maybe Django did gain control of the Duel?”

Django thought, “Kain might be right, but I don’t think that’s the case. He must be up to something; otherwise Vylon wouldn’t have gone through all that, sacrificing his Battle Phase and the ability to Special Summon just to end it with a single defense monster. But even so, it might be too dangerous to leave whatever monster he has on the field, so I might be taking a gamble here, but I have to attack.” He said aloud, “Alright, it’s my turn, I Draw! Utopia, attack Vylon’s face-down monster with Rising Sun Slash!”

Utopia drew one of his swords, jumped up into the air, and started his rapid descent. The hidden monster was revealed in the process. It was a white furred male lion garbed in golden armor around its legs, torso, and face, glowing green eyes, and a muzzle full of sharp teeth. It was a Level Four monster with stats of 2000/1000. Utopia, however, effortlessly cleaved it in two, destroying it without a problem. However, Vylon was smiling.

“Thanks for doing that. When my Heraldic Beast Leo is sent to the Graveyard, I can add any Heraldic Beast, except another copy of Leo, from my deck to my hand. So I think I’ll choose my Heraldic Beast Eale.”

A card was ejected from his deck, which he revealed before adding it to his hand, his deck automatically shuffled right after.

Django grimaced but said, “I end my turn.”

“Then it’s my turn, I Draw!” Vylon looked at his new card, smiling, “I summon Heraldic Beast Unicorn in Attack Mode!”

Heraldic Beast Unicorn was a majestic-looking monster. It had a white body with a blue mane and tail and silver hooves. Its torso, legs, thighs, and face were guarded by black and gold armor plating, a long golden horn in the center of its forehead, glowing blue eyes, and a white beard-like structure under its chin. It was a Level Four monster with stats of 1100/1600.

“Next up, I activate the Spell: Heraldry Reborn! I knew this would come in handy, as I can revive any Heraldic Beast from my Graveyard. So I revive my Heraldic Beast Leo in Attack Mode!”

The Graveyard Portal opened up, allowing Heraldic Beast Leo to jump out of it, stand next to its fellow monster, and give a mighty roar.

“But wait, it gets better. Since I have two Heraldic Beasts on my field, I can Special Summon Heraldic Beast Eale in Attack Mode!”

Heraldic Beast Eale was an unusual monster. It looked a lot like a shaggy grey goat. Its body was bulky, composed of grayish wiry fur. Its upper legs were large, but its lower legs were slender and blue, ending in small hooves. It had a long thin tail covered in its shaggy fur. It had a long neck with a goat-like head on top, equipped with two long, slender horns, and glowing red eyes. On its face and back of its neck was segmented dark blue armor, and fanned out over its back was light blue metal plates that gave the impression of a feathered cape. It was a Level Four monster with stats of 1000/1800.

Nicholas said, “This Vylon guy has three Level Four monsters on his field. Is he gonna Xyz Summon?”

Kain replied, “Most likely, but what Xyz Monster he’ll summon is the question.” His eyes then widened, “Unless he’s going to summon another Number!”

Vylon nodded, “Bingo, you hit it on the head. I Overlay my three Level Four monsters! With these three monsters, I build the Overlay Network! I Xyz Summon Number 69: Heraldry Crest in Attack Mode!”

Eale and Leo both became brownish orbs of light while Unicorn became a yellowish one, all of them shot up into the air and entered the galaxy-style Overlay Network. Out emerged a monstrous creature that didn’t have a sealed form.

Number 69: Heraldry Crest was a hideous, vicious, and nightmarish creature. It body was massive, composed of white and black armor plating that was constructed in a unique shape. It had an enormous torso, mostly black, with a thick hooked-shape plate in front, a red section of its stomach with a golden frame of bars, almost like a prison, a trio of white rib-shaped bars on each side of its stomach, and a tiny white waist with black stilt-like legs. Each of its “arms” was long, thick, and strong-looking, composed of a narrow white upper arm attached to a large spade-shaped section. Melding on top of that was a matching black spade, giving off a yin/yang symbol-shape, with a long, curved spike traveling downward for each arm, and each was equipped with three black blade-like spikes. On its back was what looked like a honeycomb shape, protected by white armor plating shaped like a rib cage above it. On each “shoulder” were two massive partly curved elongated pyramid structures, mostly white, but with reddish pink accents and gill-like marks. Its face was, by far, the most horrific part of it. It had a distinct flat octagon shape, but was sharper, with several spikes around its chin, a large, jagged mouth full of dagger-like teeth, a somewhat detached upper lip, making it seem more like a sinister mask, and four slanted, narrow glowing orange eyes completed its face. On the left pillar-like structure on its shoulder was the number “69” written in curved lines and dots, and orbiting it were three yellow orbs of light. It was a Rank Four monster with stats of 2600/1400.

It gave a reverberating roar which caused even the Psycho Sphere Field to ripple and fluctuate. It was so massive it actually forced the Sphere Field to expand to better accommodate it. This put a great deal of strain on Django and Vylon. Once it settled down and was comfortable with the Sphere Field’s size, it glared down at Utopia, who returned the look.

Cody was as pale as a ghost, “That thing… it’s… it’s horrible! What kind of a monster is that!? It looks like it embodies hatred and evil itself! I hate to say it, but I’m glad D-Man is facing it, as only he might have any idea of how to beat it.”

Kain was also disturbed by it, “For once, I agree with you, Lionheart. That… that thing looks like it’s straight out of a horrible nightmare. Against that thing, I doubt even Utopia could pull out a win. If Django somehow manages to beat it, I will be very impressed.”

Jack was also very frightened, “That thing is excellent nightmare fuel. I really hope Django has a Plan B, and even a Plan C, as I think it’ll take everything he’s got just to keep it at bay.”

Fiona retreated behind Leo, terrified, “That thing… what a monstrosity. It makes even the fiercest creatures in Duel Monsters look tame. I hope Django has a plan, or that demonic Number will crunch him up.”

Nicholas also retreated behind his brother, sputtering, “That Number… I’ll be having nightmares for weeks because of that thing. I hope Django can defeat it, because, just like Cody said, it looks like the embodiment of Hell itself. I think even the Devil would be afraid of it.”

Tempest looked horrified, thinking, “Django is up against THAT thing!? I hope he has a plan, because that Heraldry Crest looks like it could make Heaven AND Hell quake in fear. Please, Django, you must win. I don’t want to see you die, let alone against such a beast! Please, you have to win, you just have to!”

Vylon stated, “Say hello to my most dangerous creature. I’d rather not use him, but you and Lucifer have left me no choice. Now to activate Heraldry Crest’s ability! When it’s Special Summoned, it negates the effects of all other Xyz Monsters on the field! So Utopia will lose its special abilities!”

A ghostly claw emerged from the honeycomb structure on its back, lashing out at Utopia, gripping his chest. Utopia tried to break free, but the dark claw merely drained away his power, turning his body dark, before it retracted and returned to its body.

Django thought grimly, “Great, just great. Utopia can no longer use Light Wing Shield, so he is virtually defenseless. At least his stats remained unaltered. If I don’t think of a way to stop that beast, then Lucifer will be able to complete his plans and this world will fall under his tyranny. And I’ll be joining my family among the stars. I can’t give up, I won’t give up. I’ll fight until my dying breath. There’s too much on the line to give up, so even though I’m facing down a monstrosity, I cannot waver.” He said strongly, “Don’t get used to having Heraldry Crest on the field, because I plan to remove it for good!”

Next Chapter: Nightmare

Can it be? Did I actually turn this Duel into a three-parter? Wow, I even impress myself sometimes! ^_^ Just kidding, at least about the impress myself part. But wow, I've had trouble in the past just making a two-parter of anything, let alone what I've done here. Anyway, the next chapter will decide the outcome of the Duel! Can you wait until then? You better, because I need sleep! Later all!

Re: Psychic Duelist Django Spirit (Season 1: Number Hunters) (Chapter 27 Up!)

Don't mind me, just bumping the thread so I don't forget about it. Next chapter is in the works, but thanks to everything related to Spring, I've been feeling really lousy, especially dealing with migraines more frequently. Hopefully I'll have the next chapter up in the next few days. Until then.

Re: Psychic Duelist Django Spirit (Season 1: Number Hunters) (Chapter 28 Up!)

Ugh, I really don't feel too well. Especially with this unseasonable warmth. I feel like I'm melting, and it's not even summer yet! I've been losing a lot of sleep because of it. But I managed to get this done over the course of several hours. Hopefully it's good.

Nightmare

Things were not looking too good right now. Django’s and Vylon’s Duel had taken a turn for the worse. Vylon now had Number 69: Heraldry Crest on the field, armed with 2600 Attack Points, no face-down cards, and his Life Points resting on 1900. Django had Utopia on the field with his abilities negated by Heraldry Crest, one face-down card, and only 900 Life Points remaining. The rest of the gang, including Kain, Nicholas, and Cosmoz, were watching from outside the Psycho Sphere Field. They could see how bad things were, as well as how battered up the two Duelists were from the Psychic Duel. It was still Vylon’s turn.

Nicholas asked, “Is there any way for Django to get out of this mess? Utopia has been completely drained of his power, and he’s facing down one of the most horrid Numbers I’ve seen. Is there any hope?”

Kain replied, “He’s definitely in over his head, as I cannot see a way out. I will give him this; however, Django is a master of comebacks and can turn a bad situation into his favor. I won’t count him out yet, but things look desperate for him.”

Tempest turned to him, “By the sounds of it, you now understand the seriousness of the situation. You’re rooting for Django.”

He glared at her, “Not a chance, green girl. I only want to see Django get crushed if I’M doing the crushing. I want him to win, but so I can flatten him myself. So don’t go getting the wrong idea, or you’ll be sorely mistaken.”

Vylon stated, “Django, this is the strongest monster I have. Heraldry Crest can be a brute. As you know, when it is summoned, it negates the effects of all other Xyz Monsters on the field. Furthermore, until my End Phase, I can target one Xyz Monster on the field and have Heraldry Crest copy its abilities. I won’t need to do so this turn, however, as I can see that Utopia’s power is more defensive, not offensive, so there is no need to right now. But that won’t stop me from attacking! Heraldry Crest, attack Utopia with Dark Matter Demolition!”

Heraldry Crest fired a large amount of energy into the air, creating a massive congregation of dark clouds. Then, without warning, a large, concentrated flaming blob of dark matter erupted from the clouds, barreling down toward Utopia.

Django choked, “Utopia won’t survive the attack! Without Light Wing Shield, as well as having his natural abilities as a Number negated, he’s a sitting duck!”

Utopia could only brace himself as the dark matter blast slammed into him, engulfing him in a massive explosion. Django was thrown back by the attack until he hit the inner wall of the Sphere Field. He was floating in a daze, exhausted, his body’s strength reaching critical, before he finally regained his bearings and returned to an upright position. His Life Points dropped by 100 to 800.

The inventor stated, “I activate my Trap: Miracle’s Wake! It allows me to revive any monster that was destroyed this turn! So I bring back Utopia!”

The Graveyard Portal opened up, allowing Utopia to return to the field. He got into a battle stance, ready to fight.

Vylon said, “Not too shabby. I end my turn. Unless you can pull a miracle out of your hat, there’s no way you can win.”

Django stated strongly, “I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I never quit. I never give up. I will fight to my last breath before I give in. If I have a turn, then I have hope. All it takes is a single draw to turn the tide of any Duel. Just you watch!”

Just then, Django and the rest of the Number Hunters gained their glowing auras. They all shot up into the air, combined, and a massive beam of energy struck Django. Everyone had to shield their eyes from the burst of light.

He looked confident and ready. Vylon and Cosmoz were in awe, while Kain and Nicholas were completely dumbfounded.

Kain sputtered, “What the hell just happened?! Why is Django wearing that armor!? WHERE did he get that armor!? This doesn’t make any sense!”

Cody stated, “Say hello to Divine Soul Mode, Kain. More specifically, meet Divine Django. He’s tapped into his true power, and is ready to kick some butt!”

Jack smiled, “And that’s not the best part, either. Destiny Draw can now be achieved! Let’s see Heraldry Crest get out of that!”

Leo and Fiona said in unison, “Divine Django will win the Duel!”

Django’s hand started to glow, “Time to finish this!”

A voice stated, “A truly powerful Duelist can shape the Duel to his will. He can even generate the very card he needs!”

Django drew a golden card on the top of his deck, “Go, Destiny Draw!”

Vylon choked, “Both Divine Soul Mode AND Destiny Draw!? You are a Spirit, and a truly powerful one at that!”

Django looked at his new card, smiling, before diverting his attention back to Utopia, “I rebuild the Overlay Network with Utopia! Go, Chaos Xyz Evolution! Rise up Number C39: Utopia Ray!”

Utopia returned to his sealed form and reentered the galaxy-style Overlay Network. It erupted with power, and out emerged Utopia Ray’s sealed form. Shortly afterward, Utopia Ray was standing before them, as mighty as ever.

Cosmoz looked baffled, “Numbers can evolve!? I didn’t know that! But what kind of power does this new Utopia have?”

Kain asked, “Okay, this is getting ridiculous! I was stunned to see Utopia evolve into Utopia Ray V, but now you’re telling me he has ANOTHER evolved form!?”

Tempest grinned, “At the moment, he has three evolved forms. But rather than tell you, you’ll just have to wait and see the last form.”

Cosmoz turned to her, “Are you serious? Utopia has THREE evolved forms!? That’s amazing! I didn’t know that Numbers even had one evolved form. Amazing, just amazing!”

Divine Django held out the glowing card he just drew, “This card will end it! Appear before us Divine Weapon: DW – Pegasus Saber!”

A new monster appeared on the field. It was a white mechanical Pegasus with golden blade-like wings, glowing blue eyes, and a long gold mane and tail. It was a Level Four monster with stats of 1500/1000.

“Now I equip Pegasus Saber to Utopia Ray! This will grant him an extra 1500 Attack Points! But don’t think that’s all he’ll get!”

Pegasus Saber turned into a beam of light, which merged with Utopia Ray’s newly drawn main sword. The sword transformed into a new weapon. The hilt was now gold, constructed of two wings and the tail of Pegasus Saber. The main blade was now a single-edged silver saber, slightly curved, with a fanned out set of spikes at the tip. Utopia Ray’s power jumped by 1500 to 4000.

“But, that’s not all! By using all of Utopia Ray’s Overlay Units while equipped with Pegasus Saber, all battle damage you take is doubled! It’s over!”

Vylon sputtered, “That’ll destroy Heraldry Crest and take out all my Life Points in a single shot!”

“Exactly! I’m sorry to do this, but it must be done! Utopia Ray, attack Heraldry Crest with Pegasus Wing Slash!”

Utopia Ray swooped down to Heraldry Crest, blade held high. It started to glow a brilliant light. After a few moments of winding up his mechanical arms, one powerful slash was enough to bisect Heraldry Crest. It was engulfed in a powerful explosion, sending waves of fire all over the place. Vylon closed his eyes and smiled before getting thrown back from the attack. He crashed into the Sphere Field’s wall before drifting down to the bottom, defeated, his Life Points at zero. As soon as his Life Points counter vanished, the Psycho Sphere Field slowly started to fade away. When it was completely gone, both Django and Vylon were dropped to the ground. However, before he could hit the ground, Cosmoz managed to catch his father, softening the landing. Django reverted from his Divine form to quickly rush over to Vylon and Cosmoz.

“Please tell me he’ll be okay?” he asked, concerned.

Cosmoz looked his father over, then turned to Django, “Yes, he’ll recover. He’ll need a bit of rest, but he’ll make a full recovery. Thank you for not hurting him too badly. I wish this confrontation didn’t have to happen, but I’m glad both of you are fine.”

Just then, his Duel Gazer was going off. Cosmoz took it out and turned it on, revealing a distressed Chronos on the other side.

Chronos managed to say, “Cosmoz! Lucifer is making his move! Get out of there before he attacks! Hurry!”

Just then, a voice boomed, “VYLON! YOU’VE FAILED ME FOR THE LAST TIME!!! PREPARE TO DIE!!!”

A massive crimson bolt of energy emerged out of a newly-formed portal in the sky. It barreled down toward Cosmoz and Vylon. Django, despite being in pain, managed to shove the two Goldwings out of the way. The bolt of energy just barely missed the three of them, but did some heavy damage to the area. Out of the portal emerged a cloaked figure, floating on what appeared to be a dark energy platform. His glowing heterochromatic eyes glared down at the group.

Vylon said weakly, “Lucifer…”

Django turned to the dark Psykinox, “So, you’re Lucifer! About time you showed yourself! I take it you’re here because I won the Duel, correct?”

The dark Psykinox growled, “That is correct. This time, Django, I’ll make sure you die. I failed to do so the first time, but I’ll rectify that mistake today. You will die miserably and painfully at my hands, and I will relish every second of it. So if you think you have the power to challenge your superior, then let’s see you try!”

“Before I say yes, show yourself! Let me see you completely so I can remember the face of the vile creature I destroyed!”

“Suit yourself…” and with a quick pull, he removed his cloak, revealing his true form.

Lucifer was tall and broad, with pale grey skin, his heterochromatic eyes, one red and one gold, were glowing with power, blood red markings above and under his eyes, sharp, claw-like fingernails, and a wild mess of poison purple and blood red streaked hair that touched his shoulders. He was garbed in sleeveless black armor with gold accents, sharp shoulder plates with hooked spines on the edges, blood red gauntlets studded with silver spikes, and black fingerless gloves, each with a red eye mark. His lower body was shielded by hip and loin guards, with what appeared to be dark grey pants that covered mostly his right leg, leaving his left leg from mid thigh down bare, ending in calf-high black boots studded with silver spikes, steel toes and heels, and two slit-shaped eye marks just above the toes. Around his neck was a pendant that was identical to the symbol on the Limited Barian’s Force card. His mouth had been twisted into a diabolical grin and his eyes were firmly locked on Django.

Cody growled, “So, yer finally showed yer face to us! You dirty schemin’ rattlesnake! About time ya finally showed us who yer are, so now we can rearrange yer ugly mug!”

Lucifer merely said, “Like I care what an inferior species like a human says. You humans are as threatening as a rose petal, one that I’ll soon pluck, once I’m done with Django.” He returned his attention to Django, “Time we finished this, Django. Believe me, you’ll wish you had died along with your beloved family all those years ago, when I first attacked the Spirits. No matter what you try, it’ll end in your death. But please, struggle and defy me, it’ll make this more amusing.”

Django growled, “You want amusing? I’ll show you amusing, once I mop the floor with your face!”

Cosmoz held out a card to the inventor, “Take this, please. It might help. You have to stop Lucifer before it’s too late. My Number will help you win.”

Django took it, “Thank you, Cosmoz, I’ll put it to good use.”

Lucifer said, annoyed, “Are you quite done now? Let’s get this going already! The sooner I can kill you, the sooner I can conquer the world!”

He generated a large amount of psychic energy, which Django responded with his own. The two energies collided, creating the psychic energy field, but it seemed stronger this time, even more so than the Psycho Sphere Field. Django armed himself with his D-Pad and Duel Gazer, while Lucifer did the same with his. His D-Pad model looked more like a supernatural extension of his arm, as it seemed to grow from his wrist and gauntlet. It looked like a sharp, sleek purple sectioned wing with a flowing pink and orange inner section, several spines lined the base of the “wing”, the deck was positioned above his wrist, and no touch screen. He required no Duel Gazer; instead his right eye became more luminous. Both drew their starting hands, Life Points set as 4000.

“Let’s Duel!” the two Psykinoxes said in unison.

Jack said, “Fight time.”

Tempest was worried, “I hope Django is strong enough to fight. He just got out of a grueling match with Vylon, and he still looked pretty beat up. I just hope he’s able to keep up.”

Django touched his deck, “I’ll open things up, I Draw!” He looked at his new card, which was Gagaga Magician, before he played him, “I summon Gagaga Magician in Attack Mode!”

Gagaga Magician appeared on the field. He gave his battle cry before getting into a battle pose.

“Next up, I activate Gagaga Magician’s ability! Once a turn, I can change his Level anywhere from Level One to Level Eight, so I’ll change him to Level Eight!”

The gold buckle around his middle started to glow, all eight indents lighting up. The stars that represent his Level changed from four to eight.

“But that’s not all! I activate the Spell: Star Changer! This can change the Level of any monster on the field by one, so I think I’ll increase Gagaga Magician’s Level by one more, to Level Nine!”

One more star was added to Gagaga Magician’s Level, giving him a total of nine.

“Next up, I summon Gagaga Child from my hand. He can be summoned whenever I have another Gagaga monster on my field. So say hello to this little guy!”

A new monster appeared. Gagaga Child was a short young boy with pale skin, chocolate brown eyes, and spiky red hair. He was wearing a white button-down shirt with blue sleeves, a red tie, black shorts, and red sneakers with steel toes. On his back was a blue and orange cape held by a gold chain, and on his head was a smaller version of Gagaga Magician’s hat and visor. In his hand was a large, blue, rectangular ice pop. He was a Level Two monster with stats of 800/1200.

“That’s not all! Gagaga Child can copy the Level of any other Gagaga monster on my field. So just as quickly as this little guy can polish off an ice pop, his Level will mimic that of Gagaga Magician’s!”

Gagaga Child quickly ate his ice pop, leaving the stick bare. When he did, on his ice pop’s stick, the stars representing his Level changed from two to nine.

Fiona said, “He’s got two Level Nine monsters on the field. He’s gonna Xyz Summon.”

Django stated, “I Overlay Gagaga Magician and Gagaga Child! With these two monsters I build the Overlay Network! I Xyz Summon Number 9: Dyson Sphere in Attack Mode!”

Both Gagaga Magician and Gagaga Child became purple orbs of light and shot up into the air. However, they kept on going, not entering any Overlay Network, until they vanished into the sky. A pause followed, but then something happened. Large spinning shadows appeared on the ground. Then something seemed to eclipse the sun briefly. When everyone looked up, they nearly jumped back in alarm. Hovering in outer space, but still visible to all, was an enormous mechanical monster. It looked like a cross between a giant space station and a flower, with each “petal” containing a vast network of components, each with a large round “eye”. The body of the space station was shaped like a traditional UFO with a large bowl-shaped center, and behind it was a long, thick spike. Orbiting it were two yellow orbs of light, but they were hardly visible, and written on the bowl-shaped part was the number “09” in curved lines and dots. It was a Rank Nine monster with stats of 2800/3000.

Kain sputtered, “THAT’S a monster?! It’s huge! It looks like it’s bigger than this planet! Can a monster get that big!?”

Cody choked, “Just look at that thin’! It’s gotta be the biggest monster in all of Duel Monsters! It can dwarf a planet no problem!”

Leo said in awe, “I never knew a monster could get so big. Is that the Number that Cosmoz gave Django? If so, then it looks like it could snuff out the sun with just a single attack!”

Django said, “While normally, when using Gagaga Child’s abilities, I wouldn’t be able to conduct my Battle Phase that turn, but since this was the first turn of the Duel, that problem is null and void. So for now, I place one card face-down to end my turn.”

Lucifer sneered, “Your monster may be big, but it’s no match for me! I Draw!” He looked at his new card, smiling, before activating another card from his hand, “First off, I activate the Field Spell: Sargasso the Different Dimension Battlefield! This field will be your doom, Spirit scum!”

The surrounding area changed, transforming into a completely different field. The field was now a dark dimensional wasteland, full of various floating pieces of debris, along with several mostly dismantled aircraft carriers acting as the main stage. Django and Lucifer were now standing on one of the free-floating destroyed aircraft carriers, while the rest of the gang was on another one.

Nicholas retreated closer to Kain, “This place is giving me the creeps, Kain. What is this place? It looks way too real to be a Field Spell.”

Kain stated, “I’ve heard of this Field Spell. It’s not a friendly place, especially for Xyz Monsters, but it’s even worse than I originally thought. And if this… Psychic Duel stuff is as real as everyone says it is, then this place is not just an Augmented Reality-produced place.”

Fiona shivered, “Whatever this place is, it is creepy. I hope Django can survive this place.”

Lucifer smirked, “Looks like your friends are getting scared of my Sargasso field. Don’t worry; they won’t have to look at it for very long, once I’m finished with you. Now then, let’s move on, shall we? Next up, I summon Mythic Tree Dragon in Attack Mode!”

A new monster appeared. Mythic Tree Dragon was a serpentine brown dragon with a dark green underbelly. Its front legs had four sharp claws while its hind legs had two, and on its left shoulder and hips were large wooden protrusions, like that of a dead tree. It had a jagged bark-like mane, a brown head with a matching wooden protrusion on the left side, while on the right side was a curved horn, glowing red eyes, and a mouth full of sharp teeth. It was a Level Four monster with stats of 100/1400.

“But wait, there’s more. Because I have an EARTH monster on my field, I can Special Summon Mythic Water Dragon to the field!”

Mythic Water Dragon appeared on the field. It looked very similar to Mythic Tree Dragon in terms of body structure and build, only it was covered in pale blue flowing fur, a curved horn on the left side of its head, and glowing yellow eyes. It was a Level Eight monster with stats of 1000/2000.

“Next up, my Mythic Tree Dragon’s ability activates. When I control a WATER monster, it can copy that monster’s Level. So my Mythic Tree Dragon becomes a Level Eight monster!”

Mythic Tree Dragon’s Level changed, copying its water dragon counterpart, changing from Level Four to Level Eight.

“Now for the fun part! I Overlay my two Mythic Dragons! With these two monsters, I build the Overlay Network and Xyz Summon! Arise Number 107: Galaxy-Eyes Tachyon Dragon!”

Mythic Tree Dragon became a brown orb of light while Mythic Water Dragon became a blue one. Both shot up into the air and entered the galaxy-style Overlay Network. Out emerged Tachyon Dragon’s sealed form, which quickly unfolded, revealing its true self.

Just then, the gloomy clouds of Sargasso started to stir. Then, a powerful lightning bolt barreled down from them, heading straight for Lucifer. However, the dark Psykinox was not worried.

“Heheh, normally, whenever any player would summon an Xyz Monster, they would take 500 points of damage from Sargasso, but I have a way around that. I send Sargasso Lighthouse to the Graveyard to negate Sargasso’s effect on myself. So I’m able to avoid Sargasso’s effect completely. You, on the other hand, won’t be so fortunate.”

Lucifer discarded a card from his hand, which opened up the Graveyard Portal in the process. The lightning bolt diverted away from him and charged down the Graveyard Portal after the card, which closed up behind it. Lucifer then broke into a fit of deranged laughter, causing some unrest with everyone else.

“Now, where was I? Oh, yes, I was about to destroy your new Number and give you a taste of my dragon’s power! Go, Tachyon Dragon, attack Dyson Sphere with Tachyon Spiral of Destruction!”

Tachyon Dragon charged up its deadly breath attack and prepared to fire. Django, however, was far from done.

The inventor stated, “I activate Dyson Sphere’s ability! When it has Overlay Units and is targeted for an attack, it can negate that attack once a turn! Sorry, but your dragon’s attack has just been smothered out!”

Before Tachyon Dragon could fire, Dyson Sphere released a wave of energy that disrupted the attack, causing it to fade away.

Lucifer sneered, “Don’t forget that my Number has a special ability, too. I activate Tachyon Dragon’s ability…” but was cut off.

“Not so fast! I activate my Trap: Breakthrough Skill! This negates your monster’s ability until the End Phase of this turn! Sorry, but Tachyon Dragon will just have to wait.”

Django’s Trap revealed itself before firing a beam at Tachyon Dragon, it caused its body to go temporarily dark, making Lucifer grit his teeth in disgust.

He snarled, “Very well. I place one card face-down and end my turn. Let’s see how you’ll fair against my Number.”

“Gladly, it’s my turn, I Draw!” He thought as he looked at his hand, “I have to play it carefully for a bit. I don’t know the full effects of Sargasso all that well, so I’ll have to be cautious. I’m sure it has a whole bag of tricks I’m not aware of. So, for now, I’ll set up a defense and show Lucifer the power of Dyson Sphere.” He said aloud, “I set one monster face-down in Defense Mode, then I activate Dyson Sphere’s ability! Once a turn, by using one Overlay Unit, Dyson Sphere can attack you directly! It can only do this when you have a monster on your field stronger than Dyson Sphere. So do it, Dyson Sphere! Attack Lucifer directly with Brilliant Bombardment!”

Dyson Sphere absorbed an Overlay Unit into its center, then the network of components on its “petals” started to glow. It then fired a powerful barrage of beams toward Lucifer. However, the dark Psykinox was grinning.

“Nice try, Django, but not nice enough! I activate my Trap: Vain Betrayer! When one of my opponent’s Xyz Monsters declares an attack, this card stops the attack cold. But not only that, it negates your monster’s abilities, AND to cap things off, you have to discard the top three cards from your deck at each of your End Phases as long as Vain Betrayer is face-up on the field!”

Lucifer’s Trap revealed itself before firing a beam of energy at Dyson Sphere. When it struck it, its power suddenly vanished, causing its attack to also vanish. It turned dark in the process, just aimlessly floating above them.

Cody sputtered, “Oh no! Not only is Dyson Sphere powerless, but now D-Man will have to discard three cards from his deck at the end of each of his turns! That Vain Betrayer is a nasty one!”

Lucifer broke into a fit of deranged laughter, stating, “You didn’t really expect me to fall victim to that overgrown tin can’s so-called power, did you? You should see the look on your face, Django! It’s priceless!”

He started to laugh even harder, doubling over, his eyes bulging psychotically in the process. Django grimaced as he looked up at Dyson Sphere.

The inventor stated, “I place two cards face-down, then I activate Mirage of Nightmare to end my turn.”

Lucifer managed to say, “Your turn doesn’t end just like that, Django. Sargasso’s effect activates! You take 500 points of damage at each of your End Phases as long as you have a Xyz Monster on the field! And don’t forget about Vain Betrayer. You also lose the top three cards from you deck, sending them straight to the Graveyard! So what will happen first? Your deck running out of cards, or your Life Points running dry? Either way, I’m gonna enjoy this!”

Django looked up in horror as a bolt of energy charged down toward him. He was struck by it, screaming in pain as he felt his Life Points get ripped right out of him, reducing them by 500 to 3500. Then, his deck started to glow. The Graveyard Portal opened up, and he was forced to watch as three cards flew out of his deck and straight down into the Graveyard Portal, which closed up behind them.

He thought, “There goes Interceptomato, Skilled Dark Magician, and Dododo Warrior. If I don’t think of something fast, either my deck or Life Points will be depleted first, and Lucifer will be able to gain what he wants without a problem. I better think fast, or it’s over for all of us!”

Next Chapter: Wrath of Barian’s Force

Whoo... what a chapter. It was originally going to be (much) longer, but I figured I'd break it up into more pieces. That and I'm just so exhausted from the lack of sleep and heat, so I had to cut it a bit short in order to preserve what energy and brain power I have left. Hopefully, according to a weather station, it'll get much cooler over the next few days, so I hope that'll revive me a bit. It'll probably set off a migraine in the process, but I'd rather have that than suffer heat sickness (which I'm prone to). So that's enough out of me. Later all.

Re: Psychic Duelist Django Spirit (Season 1: Number Hunters) (Chapter 29 Up!)

Okay, got this done pretty quickly. Time for the epic battle between Lucifer and Django to continue. How will Django fare? Will he defeat his blood enemy and slayer of his family? We shall see.

Wrath of Barian’s Force

The Duel between Django and Lucifer was getting intense. On Lucifer’s field was Number 107: Galaxy-Eyes Tachyon Dragon, Vain Betrayer, the Field Spell Sargasso the Different Dimension Battlefield, and still had his full 4000 Life Points. Django had a depowered Number 9: Dyson Sphere, two face-down cards, Mirage of Nightmare active, and 3500 Life Points. The rest of the gang was watching from another one of the free-floating ruined aircraft carriers.

Cody said, “This is bad. Every time D-Man summons an Xyz Monster, that Sargasso strikes ‘im down with 500 points of damage.”

Jack added, “Not only that, but Sargasso will strike him with 500 points of damage at each of his End Phases while he has an Xyz Monster on the field.”

Tempest nodded, “And to add insult to injury, Vain Betrayer has turned Dyson Sphere into a floating piece of space junk, and Django is forced to discard the top three cards from his deck to the Graveyard during his End Phase. Couple in the fact that Lucifer himself completely dodged Sargasso’s effect by sending Sargasso Lighthouse to his Graveyard puts Django in a tight situation. I hope he can figure something out fast, or Lucifer will gain what he desires.”

Lucifer laughed, “What’s the matter, Django? Getting frustrated? Relax; it’s only a game, after all.”

He burst into a fit of deranged laughter, making Django and the rest of the gang growl in annoyance.

Django stated, “Lucifer, just make your move!”

“Heheh, suit yourself. It’s my move, I Draw!” but was cut off.

“Mirage of Nightmare activates! I can draw until I’m holding four cards!” Django drew four cards from his deck before stating, “Next up, I activate the Spell: Emergency Provisions! So say bye-bye to Mirage of Nightmare, and hello to 1000 Life Points!”

Mirage of Nightmare burst into a flurry of sparkles. After that, Django closed his eyes and smiled as his Life Points increased by 1000 to 4500.

Kain stated, “While that combo is a commonplace one, it does have its benefits. Django’s Life Points have been fortified, enabling him greater durability, along with regenerating his hand. To cap it off, it also buys him more time to find a way around Sargasso’s effect. So now he can focus on dealing with Tachyon Dragon instead of worrying too much about Sargasso.”

Lucifer grinned, “Gain all the Life Points you want, it won’t do you any good. But enough of that. I activate the Spell: Pot of Greed. I can draw two more cards from my deck.” He drew two cards, looked at them, then activated one of them, “I activate the Spell: Mystical Space Typhoon! Say goodbye to your other face-down card!”

A mighty typhoon was whipped up, barreling toward Django’s remaining face-down card. When it struck, it was revealed to be Horn of Heaven, before the card vanished. Django grimaced as he watched his card get blasted away.

Leo stated, “That was Horn of Heaven. It could’ve really helped. If Lucifer summoned any monster, Django could Tribute a monster and destroy Lucifer’s new monster. Which means he could’ve Tribute Dyson Sphere for the card’s cost, thus removing the effects of Vain Betrayer, and keeping him safe from Sargasso. Man, that bites.”

The dark Psykinox sneered, “Pity, if that Trap had hung around for a bit, you might have had a chance of destroying my most powerful creature. But, alas, that didn’t happen. Tough luck. Now it’s time I destroyed something else! I could destroy Dyson Sphere, but where’s the fun in that? I want to see you squirm, Spirit scum, so I think I’ll take out your hidden monster! Tachyon Dragon, attack Django’s face-down monster with Tachyon Spiral of Destruction!”

Tachyon Dragon charged up its breath attack and fired it. The hidden monster was revealed shortly afterward. It was a massive rock golem with a gold square body, coil-like upper arms, thighs, and lower arms, brown block-shaped elbows and wrists, grey fists, gold kneecaps, and steel colored zygodactyl feet. On each shoulder were two long, rectangular brown blocks, jutting upward, with a smaller version for its head with a single glowing red eye. It was a Level Four monster with stats of 0/2200. It was destroyed effortlessly by Tachyon Dragon’s assault.

Fiona groaned, “Even Gogogo Gigas’ high defense wasn’t enough to stop Tachyon Dragon. Now what’s Django gonna do?”

Lucifer sneered, “I think that’s enough destruction for one turn, so I’ll leave it at that. Come on, Django, show me what you’ve got!”

The inventor replied, “If that’s your wish, then that’s what you’ll get! It’s my turn, I Draw!” He looked at his new card, smiling, before activating it, “I summon Junk Synchron in Attack Mode!”

Junk Synchron appeared on the field. It zoomed around quickly before stopping, ready to battle.

“But that’s not all. When Junk Synchron is Normal Summoned, it can bring a Level Two or lower monster back from my Graveyard in Defense Mode. Its abilities will be negated, but that’s no biggie. So I bring back Gagaga Child in Defense Mode!”

The Graveyard Portal opened up, allowing Gagaga Child to jump out. He floated down and got into a defensive pose, his cute face showing determination.

“Next up, because I Special Summoned a monster, I can summon Doppelwarrior to the field!”

A new monster appeared. It was a human male wearing a black militia-type outfit, a beige scarf, and a black helmet that concealed his eyes with its shadows. In his hand was a blue futuristic rifle. He was a Level Two monster with stats of 800/800.

“Now for the fun part. I tune my Junk Synchron with my Doppelwarrior! I Synchro Summon Junk Warrior in Attack Mode!”

Junk Synchron pulled the ripcord on its stomach, making the engine on its back rev up. He flew up into the air and transformed into three rings of light. Doppelwarrior then flew into the rings, becoming an outline of itself, before transforming into two glowing stars. The rings then created three more stars, followed by a beam of light, and out emerged Junk Warrior. It flew around the field briefly before standing in a battle pose.

“Now I activate Doppelwarrior’s ability! When it’s sent to the Graveyard for a Synchro Summon, it summons two Doppel Tokens to the field in Attack Mode!”

Two Token Monsters appeared on the field. They looked identical to Doppelwarrior himself, only were more translucent, as if they were just copies. They were Level One monsters with stats of 400/400.

Jack looked perplexed, “Why go through all that trouble to summon a monster that’s weaker than Tachyon Dragon? Plus, even if it was stronger, only another Number can destroy a Number in battle.”

Tempest pondered for a moment, then looked at the field, and snapped her fingers. “Wait! I know this tactic! Django used a similar version against Roger when I first met him. When Synchro Summoned, Junk Warrior gains Attack Point equal to the total Attack Points of all Level Two or lower monsters on Django’s field. Gagaga Child is a Level Two monster, while those Doppel Tokens are Level One, which means Junk Warrior can gain some serious points!”

Django smiled, “I knew you’d remember this general tactic. That’s correct. Junk Warrior will gain Attack Points equal to all Level Two or lower monsters on my field. Gagaga Child has 800 Attack Points, while both Doppel Tokens have 400 each, which means Junk Warrior gains 1600 Attack Points!”

As he said that, Junk Warrior started to glow. It went into a pose like that of a muscle builder, while Gagaga Child and the two Doppel Tokens released energy. Junk Warrior absorbed the energy, its power jumping up by 1600 to 3900.

Lucifer brushed it off, “Big deal, like that scrap fighter can do much. Even if you damage my Life Points, as your puny friend stated, only a Number can outright destroy another Number in battle. You’re just wasting your time.”

The inventor grinned, “Is that so? You seem to be forgetting something. Like a certain card that’s in my Graveyard.”

Nicholas looked perplexed, “Okay, I’m lost. What does he mean by that?”

Cosmoz then realized something, “I almost forgot! Breakthrough Skill is in his Graveyard, which means he can activate its second effect!”

Django gave his fingers a snap, “That right, Cosmoz! I activate Breakthrough Skill’s effect from my Graveyard! By banishing that card, I can target one monster on my opponent’s field. That monster’s abilities are negated! So that means Tachyon Dragon will be vulnerable to Junk Warrior’s assault!”

Lucifer looked alarmed, “Wait! What!? Your pathetic monster can’t destroy my mighty Tachyon Dragon! It’s not possible!”

“Tough luck, Lucifer, but that’s the way it is. So I banish Breakthrough Skill to negate Tachyon Dragon’s power, including its ability as a Number!”

The Graveyard Portal opened up, allowing the Trap to float out briefly. It fired a beam of light at Tachyon Dragon, striking it in the chest. Tachyon Dragon cried out in despair as its body turned dark, causing it to slump over. Lucifer looked horrified as this transpired.

Django stated strongly, “Now, Junk Warrior, take out Tachyon Dragon with Scrap Fist! Rid the field of it!”

Junk Warrior shot up into the air, hovered for a moment, then, with a fury of rocket power, charged down, fist extended. Its fist gained a massive fist-shaped aura, before it slammed into Tachyon Dragon. The impact from the attack shattered the fierce dragon, while the shockwaves caused Lucifer to skid back a bit. He gave an angry glare, his Life Points dropping by 900 to 3100.

“But I’m far from done! I still have two attacks left, in this case my Doppel Tokens! Take aim at that scumbag and fire!”

Both Doppel Tokens aimed their rifles at Lucifer then fired a shot each. Both attacks landed, causing the dark Psykinox to recoil and stumble. His Life Points dropped by another 800 to 2300.

Cody cheered, “That’s the way, D-Man!”

The twins stated in unison, jumping up in the air happily, “Tachyon Dragon was just junked by Junk Warrior!”

Jack grinned, “Yeah! Not only is Tachyon Dragon history, but Django just took a large chunk out of Lucifer’s Life Points! In your face, you bottom-dwelling demon!”

Kain grinned, “I must admit, I’m impressed. Using Breakthrough Skill from the Graveyard on Tachyon Dragon was brilliant. By negating its power, along with its natural abilities as a Number, it was left vulnerable to an attack from a non-Number monster, in this case a powered-up Junk Warrior. Following it up with two direct attacks has given Django the lead. And, since Junk Warrior isn’t an Xyz Monster, Django didn’t have to worry about Sargasso giving him grief. While Dyson Sphere is still present on his field, ridding the field of Tachyon Dragon has eased the burden on Django. Pretty impressive Dueling, I must say.”

The inventor stated, “Heh, sorry, Lucifer, but you forgot the first rule of battle: never underestimate your opponent. After, a so-called pathetic monster just crushed your mighty Number, so don’t count me out just yet! So, for now, I switch Dyson Sphere to Defense Mode, place two cards face-down and end my turn.”

Lucifer spat, “Not so fast, Spirit scum! Sargasso activates, so say goodbye to 500 Life Points!”

Another bolt of energy shot down from Sargasso’s gloomy clouds, striking Django hard. He cried out in pain, falling to one knee briefly, but managed to shake it off and stand back up. His Life Points dropped by 500 to 4000.

“And that’s not all! Vain Betrayer also activates! Say farewell to three cards from the top of your deck!”

Django’s deck glowed, the Graveyard Portal opened up, and three cards flew out of his D-Pad and down the dark portal, which closed up after it.

The inventor thought, “Well, there goes Copy Knight, Des Feral Imp, and Bacon Saver. I might be able to work with that later on, but for now, I have to focus on the task at hand. Tachyon Dragon may be gone, but it probably won’t stay down for long. If Tachyon Dragon is Lucifer’s ace card, I doubt he’d let it stay in the Graveyard forever. So, for now, I’ll stay alert.”

The dark Psykinox growled, “You may have destroyed my dragon, but I’m still in this! I Draw!” He looked at his card before playing another one, “I place this monster in Defense Mode and end my turn.”

Fiona quirked an eyebrow, “That’s it? Not a big move there. But I doubt that hidden card is no threat. Django better be careful.”

Django stated, “Okay then, it’s my turn, I Draw!” He said mentally, “Fiona’s right. I don’t know what that card is, so I better be careful. Knowing a monster like Lucifer, any card he plays could be dangerous. But it could be even more so if I leave it alone, so I have to take a gamble.” He stated aloud, “Time to send your monster on a one-way trip to the Graveyard! Junk Warrior, attack his hidden monster with Scrap Fist!”

Junk Warrior rocketed up into the air, hovered for a moment, then came charging down, fist extended. It gained a fist-shaped glowing aura as it barreled down toward the hidden monster. It was revealed moments before impact, revealing itself to be a Giant Germ. Junk Warrior effortlessly splattered it, but Django looked upset.

Lucifer stated, “Thanks for destroying my Giant Germ. Not only will you take an additional 500 points of damage, but I can summon two more Giant Germs in Attack Mode! So you won’t be mounting any direct attacks on me!”

Several powerful shocks ravaged Django’s body, causing him to cry out in pain. His Life Points dropped by 500 to 3500. At the same time, Lucifer summoned two more Giant Germs from his deck, just as ugly as the first.

The inventor groaned painfully, “I switch my two Doppel Tokens to Defense Mode and end my turn.”

Lucifer wagged a finger, “Not quite, specs boy, you still have two rewards to collect, remember? Sargasso activates once again, so another 500 points will be ripped right out of your very being!”

Another bolt was fired from Sargasso’s clouds, hitting Django hard. He cried out in pain, his body being ravaged by the bolt. He fell to one knee again, smoldering a bit, panting, sweat and blood on his battered body. His Life Points dropped by another 500 to 3000.

Tempest cried out, “Django! Speak to me! Are you able to continue!?”

Cody stated, “Come on, D-Man, get up! You can’t give up!”

It took a moment, but Django managed to stand upright. He stumbled for a moment, still panting, but eventually returned to his original position.

Lucifer grinned, “Yes, squirm, defy me, struggle against me, keep it up. It makes this Duel much more amusing. Now, if you’re still alive there, Vain Betrayer activates. Say bye-bye to another three cards from your deck!”

The Graveyard Portal opened up, Django’s deck started to glow. He watched with weary eyes as three more glowing cards left his deck and flew into the opened portal, closing up behind them.

He thought, “There goes Black Magic Ritual, Magician of Black Chaos, and Swords of Revealing Light. That last one would’ve been quite useful in my current situation. But I have to stay strong, no matter how much pain I’m in. If I don’t, not only will I join my family among the stars, but my friends, along with the rest of the world, will be at Lucifer’s mercy.”

Lucifer sneered, “Seeing you like this is so satisfying, Spirit scum. Weak, helpless, and struggling to survive, yet still defiant enough to keep fighting. Oooh… this feeling… this satisfying, dominating feeling is so… WONDERFUL! Yes, the Bloodlust family was always supposed to be on top, but your miserable ancestor made sure we couldn’t. Now, after centuries of waiting, I will finally put my family name where it belongs… above all other creatures in the world! Once I kill the last Spirit, then I can gain the power and glory I deserve! But please, struggle and defy me, it makes this so much more pleasurable!”

He burst into an evil laugh that quickly evolved into a psychotic cackle.

Tempest spat, “Get a life, you psycho Psykinox! Django will beat you! Just you watch!”

Django, though obviously in pain, said strongly, “Tempest is correct. I won’t back down, no matter what. I’ll fight to my dying breath before I give up. So don’t get your victory speech ready just yet, as I plan to stop you. So make your move.”

Lucifer sneered, “Whatever, it’s your funeral. Very well, I Draw!” He looked at his new card and burst into a fit of deranged laughter, “I did it! I have the very card I need to destroy you once and for all! But first things first, I need to bring back an old friend. And I think you know perfectly well which friend I’m calling back.”

Cosmoz growled, “Tachyon Dragon, your Number, am I correct?”

“Ding-ding-ding! You win a prize! So now I activate Monster Reborn to revive my Tachyon Dragon! Come back my mighty beast of destruction!”

The Graveyard Portal opened up. Slowly, almost menacingly, Tachyon Dragon emerged from the portal. When it had fully returned, the portal closing up behind it, it gave a fierce roar, hungry for blood.

Lucifer took out another card, “This card will finish you off for good! I activate the Spell: Rank-Up-Magic Barian’s Force! This card embodies the great power of Barian, the mightiest of all energies! It will produce the last monster you’ll ever see. I rebuild the Overlay Network with Tachyon Dragon! Go, Chaos Xyz Evolution!”

Tachyon Dragon returned to its sealed form and reentered the galaxy-style Overlay Network. It erupted with power. Deep inside the Overlay Network, a chained stone gate past a narrow walkway, with the Barian Emblem on its gate, suddenly burst open. A flood of energy surged out from behind it, traveling until it reached Tachyon Dragon’s sealed form. It swallowed it up, bathing it in new power, before releasing it. Out of the Overlay Network was a new sealed form. It looked like a larger, longer, yet sleeker version of Tachyon Dragon’s sealed form. The differences were that it was gold colored with an additional spike-like pyramid attached to the original. It started to unfold, revealing the beast within.

“Arise my great beast! Come to me, Number C107: Neo Galaxy-Eyes Tachyon Dragon!”

Number C107: Neo Galaxy-Eyes Tachyon Dragon was a monstrosity. Its body was constructed of a luminescent gold armor with red components in various places. Its legs were more defined than its base form, now looking like segmented spikes with fan-like armor plating covering most of the legs, leaving only the feet, which were sharp points, bare. On its back were three pairs of luminescent gold and silver blade-shaped wings, which were attached to long stems that connected to its back, giving it a sort of peacock-like appearance. It had a bulky gold torso with red accents, all armored, while its arms were structured like jet wings, gold, red, and black in color. Perched on its massive shoulders were three long, golden, segmented metallic necks, each adorned with several spines going up in two rows, with three vicious gold jet-like heads, with orange faces, glowing red eyes, mouths lined with sharp teeth in maroon gums, and on top of each head had a black cylinder structure with a ruby red gem. In front of it was one Chaos Overlay Unit, and written on the right side of its torso was the number “107” in curved lines and dots. It was a Rank Nine monster with stats of 4500/3000.

Lucifer stated, “There is one last thing you need to know, Spirit scum. After using Barian’s Force, I am permitted to steal an Overlay Unit from one of your Xyz Monsters and add it to my Xyz Monster. So I’ll be taking Dyson Sphere’s last Overlay Unit and giving it to my mighty monster. Your space junk won’t need it where it’s going, trust me.”

Django watched in horror as an electrical-like energy zapped the already useless Dyson Sphere, snatching away its final Overlay Unit. It transformed into a Chaos Overlay Unit and joined the other one, giving Neo Galaxy-Eyes a total of two.

Lucifer called out triumphantly, “Face my ultimate beast! The bearer of destruction! The dragon of doom! This beast will win me the Duel and destroy you forever!” He then turned back to Django, smirking, “My dragon is more impressive than just its magnificent looks alone. Once a turn, by using a Chaos Overlay Unit, I can negate all other card effects on the field for the turn. And, to top it off, you cannot activate card effects on the field in response to my dragon’s power. So I’m gonna do just that! Go my dragon of destruction! Use one Chaos Overlay Unit to paralyze the field with Time Tyrant, preparing it for your thunderous rampage!”

One of Neo Galaxy-Eyes’ Chaos Overlay Units turned into a bolt of energy and was absorbed into it. It gave a mighty cry, sending out reverberating sound waves all over the field. These waves caused every face-up card to crackle and lose power, turning them dark. Junk Warrior was affected the worst, losing its power boost, dropping down back to its original 2300.

Nicholas said, “This is looking really bad. That Chaos Number has become a monster. I don’t think even Django can get out of this one!”

Tempest asked, worried, “Cody, what do you think Django’s gonna do?”

The redhead replied, “I don’t know, Tempest. D-Man is in one of his worst situations. That Chaos Number is a power-packed brute. Just one attack can cause some serious damage. But since Neo Galaxy-Eyes prevents effects from activatin’, D-Man is in trouble.”

Lucifer laughed, “Stare into my mighty monster! Now I activate Tachyon Dragon’s other ability! I can Tribute two monsters on my field for my mighty dragon to ravage your field, attacking three times during this turn!”

Leo sputtered, “No way! If Neo Galaxy-Eyes does that, it can almost wipe out Django’s field in one shot! I don’t know if Django can find a way around this problem, but he better think of a plan fast!”

Lucifer cackled, “I Tribute both of my Giant Germs to activate Neo Galaxy-Eyes’ ability! Attack his monsters, my great beast! Wipe them out with you fury!”

Both Giant Germs vanished from the field. Neo Galaxy-Eyes charged up three separate energy blasts in each mouth, took aim, and fired at their targets. One destroyed Dyson Sphere effortlessly, causing its massive body to explode with the ferocity of a supernova. The second attack destroyed Gagaga Child, who was helpless against the attack. The final target was Junk Warrior, obliterating it with one shot. Django’s body was ravaged from the attacks, even managing to knock him off his feet and sent flying back with a heavy thud. His Life Points took a sharp drop by 2200 down to just 800.

Lucifer cackled psychotically, “It’s over Django! You’ll soon be joining your beloved family very soon, so you might as well give up! There is nothing you can do to stop me!”

Here it is: the final chapter in Number Hunters! The chapter that decides the fate of Django's and Lucifer's Duel! Who will be victorious? Who will be destroyed? What will the future hold? Read to find out!

Victory

Things weren’t looking very good for Django at the moment. Lucifer had a twisted grin on his face as his Number C107: Neo Galaxy-Eyes Tachyon Dragon dominated the field. His Life Points were resting at 2300 and he had no other cards on the field. Django had two Doppel Tokens on his field, two face-down cards, and 800 Life Points left.

Lucifer sneered, “You might as well give up, Django. Nothing you can do can stop my Neo Galaxy-Eyes. Admit defeat, Spirit scum, you’re finished. No matter what you try, you cannot defeat me. But feel free to defy me, as it makes this all the more amusing.”

Django managed to get up off the ground. His body was battered, worn, and bruised. His clothes were torn in various places, and blood and sweat drenched his weary frame. However, despite that, his eyes were still fierce; though it was obvious he was getting worn out.

He stated, “As long as I have a turn, then I can still do this. Don’t count me out just yet. I will find a way to beat you, Lucifer, so don’t plan ahead too far just yet. Are you quite done now?”

The dark Psykinox gave a shrug, “You Spirits just don’t know when you’re licked, do you? But so be it. I think that’s enough destruction for one turn, so I’ll leave it at that. Let’s see if your bark has any bite to it?”

The inventor touched his deck, thinking, “I really need some help here, my friends. Please, give me something that I can work with, please!” He said aloud, “I Draw!” He looked at his new card, which was the Dark Magician, before stating, “I Tribute both my Doppel Tokens to summon Dark Magician!”

Both Doppel Tokens vanished in a flurry of sparkles, which allowed Dark Magician to appear on the field. He noticed how battered and worn Django was, concern in his violet eyes.

Tempest said, “I hope Dark Magician can pull a winner out of his hat, otherwise Django’s done for.”

The inventor stated, “And that’s exactly what I’m going to do, Tempest. I activate the Trap: Magical Hats! Conceal and protect my Dark Magician!”

One of his two face-down cards revealed itself, and a large black silk top hat with a checkered pattern above the rim and a large gold question mark appeared. It then floated up, then down, swallowing up Dark Magician. Then, three more hats spawned from the first. They shuffled around briefly before all four stood still.

Cody asked, “Will that help?”

Leo explained, “Magical Hats is an interesting Trap. It creates four Hat Tokens that conceal any monster, but is best used with Spellcasters. Now Lucifer will have to guess which hat the Dark Magician hides under. It’s a stall tactic, but it might buy Django some time until he can figure out a way to destroy Neo Galaxy-Eyes and defeat Lucifer.”

Lucifer grinned, “Do you honestly think a simple hat trick will stop my mighty dragon? But so be it, let’s play your little game here. Are you finished?”

Django stated, “I end my turn with that.”

“Good. Then it’s my turn, I Draw!” Lucifer then thought, “Hmm… I doubt those Magical Hats will keep me from his magician, but I wonder what his other face-down card is. For some reason, he hasn’t activated it yet. I could use my newly-drawn Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy it, but maybe it might be better to wait a bit.” He said aloud, “Okay, I place this card face-down and I prove to you that your little hat trick won’t save your precious Dark Magician. Neo Galaxy-Eyes, destroy the hat on the far left!”

Neo Galaxy-Eyes opened its three mouths, charged up its breath attack, and fired. The attacks combined as they charged toward one of the hats. It was blown up instantly by the attack, everyone shielding their eyes from the blinding flash.

Lucifer said, “I got him. I must’ve got him. I’m sure I got him.” However, when the smoke cleared, there was no trace of the Dark Magician’s presence under that hat. “No! I missed! Dammit! Now you have another turn to fight back!”

Tempest placed a hand over her heart, breathing a sigh of relief, “Whew, that was tense. Looks like the Dark Magician will live to perform another trick. I just hope it buys Django enough time to make a comeback.”

Jack nodded, “Yeah, you got that right. Whenever a Duelist gives Django a chance to rebound, usually he does so with gusto. I just hope it’s enough.”

Django grinned, “Sorry, Lucifer, but it appears my little hat trick has kept your dragon away from my magician. So are you quite done?”

The dark Psykinox growled, “Don’t get cocky. You survived one attack, that doesn’t mean you’ll survive the next one. I end my turn.”

“Good. Then it’s my turn, I Draw!” He looked at his new card, smiling, “I place this card face-down and end my turn.”

Lucifer spat, “Not so fast! I activate my Spell: Mystical Space Typhoon! Since you haven’t activated your other face-down card yet, I deem it no threat, so I’ll instead take out your newly-played card! Say goodbye to whatever it is!”

Another typhoon was whipped up as it barreled down toward the newly-played card. When it struck, it revealed it to be Mirror Force, before destroying it.

Fiona sputtered, “Oh no! That Mirror Force may have been his only chance! Now what’s Django gonna do!?”

“Tough break, Spirit scum. Now it’s my turn, I Draw” He drew a card, looked at it, then stated, “I should’ve done this before! I activate Neo Galaxy-Eyes’ ability! By using one Chaos Overlay Unit, I can negate all other card effects on the field! And you cannot activate any card effects on the field for the turn! So say bye-bye to your stupid little hat trick!”

Neo Galaxy-Eyes absorbed its last Chaos Overlay Unit and gave off a mighty roar. The sound waves reverberated all over the place. This caused all other card effects, including the Magical Hats, to crackle and lose power. The three remaining hats vanished, revealing Dark Magician, who looked annoyed and worried.

Kain stated, “Well, it looks like this is the end for Django. One attack is all it’ll take to wipe out his magician and his Life Points.”

Lucifer cackled, “Time to end this! Neo Galaxy-Eyes, destroy his Dark Magician and rid the world of both of them!”

Neo Galaxy-Eyes charged up its triple breath attack, took aim, and fired.

Django thought, “I have to do something, but what? Wait! I still have one move left!” He said aloud, “I activate Bacon Saver’s effect from my Graveyard! By banishing this card, I can negate your attack! So my magician and I won’t be going anywhere!”

The Graveyard Portal opened up and out jumped a cartoony black pig with a yellow stripe around its middle and a pink snout. It started to swell up like a balloon, then, without warning, it spat out its skeleton right at the attack. Its skeleton collided with Neo Galaxy-Eyes’ attack, causing it to be canceled out, before the pig itself vanished. Lucifer looked positively livid.

Tempest cheered, “Yeah! Way to go! Nice save!”

Cody grinned, “Yer da pig, Bacon Saver!”

Nicholas looked up at Kain, “I thought Neo Galaxy-Eyes prevented card effects from taking place?”

Kain replied, “It prevents any effects from happening on the field, Nicholas, but not from the Graveyard. So Django was able to bypass that problem by using Bacon Saver’s ability from the Graveyard. Looks like Vain Betrayer may have backfired a bit on Lucifer. But still, Bacon Saver can only use its ability once a Duel, so all it did is buy Django one more turn. I wonder if it’ll be enough.”

Lucifer spat, “What a horrid little hog! I can’t believe you had that porker in your Graveyard! How did it get there in the first place?!”

Django grinned, “You put it there, Lucifer, thanks to your Vain Betrayer. It sent several cards from my deck to the Graveyard, including Bacon Saver. So deck destruction has some downsides, in case you couldn’t tell.”

Lucifer looked like he was about to explode in anger, before stating, “I place one card face-down to end my turn! But there is nothing you can do! So take your turn and be done with it!”

Django nodded, thinking, “This is my last chance. If I don’t think of something, it’s over. But I can’t give up. I’ve never given up before, and I won’t start now. I have to be strong; otherwise it’ll be all over for all of us.”

Suddenly, Django and the rest of the Number Hunters gained their glowing auras, which shot up into the air, combined, and struck Django. He was engulfed in a blinding light, causing everyone to shield their eyes.

He gave Lucifer a powerful glare, a small smirk forming on his face.

The dark Psykinox sputtered, “No! Not Divine Soul Mode! Not now! But even with that, you still won’t win!”

Leo and Fiona cheered, “Yeah! Divine Django has joined the party!”

Jack grinned, “Awesome! Now he can use Destiny Draw to finish off Lucifer!”

Divine Django grinned, “Oh, I don’t need Destiny Draw this time. I have something better in mind. So it’s my turn, I Draw!” He looked at his new card, smiling, before activating it, “I activate the Spell: Dark Magic Attack! When I have a Dark Magician on my field, I can play this card! It destroys all of my opponent’s Spells and Traps! Basically, it’s a Dark Magician version of Harpie’s Feather Duster! So say adios to your face-down card and Sargasso!”

Dark Magician charged up an attack, creating a massive orb of dark energy. He fired it, causing it to rampage all around Lucifer’s field. The dark Psykinox watched in horror as his face-down card, revealed to be Intrigue Shield, and Sargasso, vanished.

“Now for the really fun part! I activate Monster Reborn to bring back Junk Warrior!”

The Graveyard Portal opened up, allowing Junk Warrior to jump out. It took a battle pose as the portal closed up behind it.

“Next up, I summon my second Gagaga Magician to the field in Attack Mode!”

Another Gagaga Magician appeared on the field. He gave his battle cry and got into position.

“Next I activate Gagaga Magician’s ability! I change his Level from Level Four to Level Five!”

The gold buckle on Gagaga Magician’s middle glowed, changing the number of lights on it from four to five.

Lucifer stated, “You realize you’re wasting your time, don’t you? Since you opted out of Destiny Draw, you’re just setting yourself up for defeat!”

“Is that so? You do realize that I now have two Level Five monsters on my field, right?”

Lucifer looked alarmed as he realized this, “No! You’re gonna Xyz Summon!”

Divine Django grinned, “Bingo. I Overlay my Level Five Gagaga Magician and Junk Warrior! With these two monsters, I build the Overlay Network and Xyz Summon!”

Both Gagaga Magician and Junk Warrior became purple orbs of light, shot up into the air, and entered a golden galaxy-style Overlay Network. It erupted with a new power.

“Arise my Divine Weapon: DW – Seraph Arms!”

A new monster appeared on the field. It was a massive, mighty angel, covered in cobalt blue full-body armor with gold trims and accents. On its back were five pairs of golden wings, along with one more pair on each outer ankle. Its face was covered by a tall two-piece orange and blue visor, and hovering over it was a gold halo. Its presence alone radiated powerful light energy, causing the dark Psykinox to slink back a bit, trying to shield himself from its radiant glow. Orbiting it were two yellow orbs of light. It was a Rank Five monster with stats of 2500/2500.

Lucifer sputtered, “A Divine Weapon Xyz Monster!? It’s not possible!”

Divine Django stated, “Oh it’s quite possible, Lucifer! Now I equip Seraph Arms to Dark Magician!”

Seraph Arms broke apart into several pieces, followed by those pieces attaching themselves on Dark Magician, forming new armor. When they were finished, Dark Magician was now dressed in a fusion of his original armor and the new one, along with having three pairs of wings on his back and one pair on each ankle. He looked himself over, gave a confident grin, and took a mighty battle pose.

“When Seraph Arms is equipped to a monster, that monster gains 2500 Attack and Defense! So my Dark Magician is fortified to an extreme measure!”

Dark Magician’s power jumped dramatically, changing his stats fro 2500/2100 to 5000/4600.

“Next up, I activate my face-down Spell: Magic Formula! This card can only be equipped to a Dark Magician or Dark Magician Girl, granting the equipped monster 700 additional Attack Points!”

The face-down card was finally revealed, summoning a magical tome in Dark Magician’s free hand. His power jumped up by 700 more points to 5700.

Lucifer stated, “Even though your new combo is stronger than my Neo Galaxy-Eyes, not only can you not destroy it, but you won’t be able to wipe out my Life Points!”

“Are you sure about that? Seraph Arms’ second effect activates. When I have another Equip Card active on the same monster Seraph Arms is equipped to, that card’s effect is tripled. And, on top of that, for every Equip Card attached to my monster, Seraph Arms negates the abilities of the same number of opposing cards. Since I have one Equip Card on my Dark Magician, your Neo Galaxy-Eyes loses all its special abilities, including its natural powers as a Number!"

Lucifer looked even more alarmed as Dark Magician’s power jumped up by another 1400 to a grand total of 7100. At the same time, a beam of light was released from Dark Magician’s new armor, striking Neo Galaxy-Eyes, causing its normally golden body to turn dark.

“This can’t be!” Lucifer cried out, “Not only is my Neo Galaxy-Eyes rendered powerless, but one attack will wipe both it AND me out! I can’t lose to a Spirit!”

Divine Django shouted, “It’s what you deserve, Lucifer! So feel the power of a Spirit! Dark Magician, attack Neo Galaxy-Eyes with Divine Magic Annihilation! End this Duel and Lucifer!”

The gang was cheering happily as Dark Magician charged up a tremendous amount of energy from his staff. Once the orb of light was larger than himself, he fired it as a massive beam, creating a powerful recoil that everyone could feel. Lucifer watched, wide eyes full of horror, as the attack slammed into Neo Galaxy-Eyes. It tried to resist the attack, but eventually gave in, obliterated in one shot. The attack didn’t stop there, as the beam of light continued to travel until it struck Lucifer with no mercy. He tried to resist it, but was overcome by the attack, and was sent flying, screaming in anguish. As he hit the ground, he kept on rolling at a high speed, slamming each part of his body onto the pavement with great force. When he finally stopped, he was flat on his stomach, face-down, severely wounded, and not moving. His Life Points dropped down to zero, the psychic field vanishing, taking everything with it.

As Divine Django took a moment to catch his breath, Vylon stated, “Django! You must finish Lucifer off now! Summon the Divine Blade and destroy him before his evil can spread anymore! You must hurry!”

Confused, Django complied. He held up a hand, and a shining blade formed in his hand. He clutched it, got into a slight crouching pose, and lunged at Lucifer, blade held high. Lucifer opened one eye and saw Django charge at him. Horrified, he quickly summoned a portal and vanished in it, just seconds before Django’s blade could strike him.

“No!” Django cried out.

Lucifer’s voice could be heard in the air, “You may have won the battle, Django Spirit, but you haven’t won the war! I will be back! Mark my words, I will kill you and all that is precious to you! You won this time, but the next time we meet, I will be the victor! So consider yourself lucky today! I will be back!”

Django swore badly before the blade vanished. As the Number Hunters ran up to him, he shed his Divine form, but nearly fell to the ground in exhaustion. Cody and Jack managed to catch him before he could.

Cody asked, “You okay, D-Man?”

He replied wearily, “I will be, Cody. But I failed to destroy Lucifer once and for all. He’ll be back, so I have to be ready. I’m sorry guys; Lucifer is still out there because I reacted too slowly. Forgive me.”

Tempest replied with a smile, “There is nothing to forgive, Django. You fought long and hard, and we now know you have the power to fight that psycho Psykinox head-on and have a chance at winning. You really did us proud. Don’t worry about it too much. You’ll get him next time, and I doubt Lucifer will take you lightly after this. He just proved what a coward he is, but even in a weakened state, you still managed to defeat him. Lucifer will be back, but we’ll be ready.”

Cody nodded, “Yeah, buddy, don’t sweat it. We’ll trash that bottom-dweller next time, so don’t you worry. We’re just glad to have ya still in one piece.”

Cosmoz and Vylon walked up to them. Cosmoz was still supporting his weakened father, but both were smiling.

Vylon stated, “Django, you are a truly powerful Spirit. Only one other Spirit has ever had such power. Astral himself.”

Django looked up, “You mean… my father?”

Cosmoz shook his head, “No, not your father. Your greatest ancestor: the original Astral. The one who created our clan, as well as the power of Numeron: the most magnificent Psykinox in our race’s history. He was practically a god, but he was the kind of person that wanted to share his powers to the world. I can see what father means: you embody his great power, and I bet you can do even more.”

Django quirked an eyebrow, “My ancestor was… a god? How could he be that powerful? For that matter, how can I be that powerful? I’m still learning about my abilities as a Psykinox, so how can I even come close to his power?”

Vylon chuckled, “You’d be surprised, Django. But take these…” he held out two cards, “Take the last two Numbers in our possession. You might need them in the fights ahead. But you have done our race, and your family, proud. While Lucifer will be back, you have proven to him and all of us that you have the power to create miracles. He won’t underestimate you again, but even so, you may be the only one powerful enough to fight him and win. But you can count on my family’s support. Even if Lucifer labels us as traitors, we are fighting for the right cause. You can count on our support.”

Django took the two Numbers, smiling, “Thank you, Vylon. I know we will be strong allies. I hope Lucifer won’t try to strike you down now, though, but it’s good to know that we have some powerful allies like you Goldwings. So thank you, and hopefully you’ll make a full recovery.”

Cosmoz smiled, “Take care, Django. We’ll be in touch. But for now, rest up, as you achieved one of the greatest feats of all. Farewell.”

A portal opened up behind them. Cosmoz guided Vylon into the portal before it closed up behind them.

Django turned to Kain, “I know you came looking for a Duel, but…” he was cut off.

Kain stated, turning around, “When you’ve recovered, we’ll Duel. A Duel with a weakened opponent would be lacking in honor, meaning I would not have earned my victory. I’ll defeat you, Django, but for now, go home and rest. We’ll settle this another day. But I will say this… you are quite the impressive Duelist. Taking on two high-leveled, high-stakes Duels back-to-back is no small feat. Gives me something to look forward to. When you’ve recovered enough, I’ll challenge you. Just don’t lose before then, got it?”

The inventor nodded, smiling, “I’ll be looking forward to that, Kain. And on the bright side, you can finalize any strategies you might have. But thank you, and I’ll be seeing you on the battlefield soon.”

Nodding and giving a rough smile, Kain walked away, Nicholas in tow. Django gave a small chuckle, followed it up with a heavy sigh.

“Well, gang, I think that’s enough excitement for one day. I say we call it a day.”

Later that day, back at their home, Django and Tempest were resting. Django was now dressed in a white tee shirt, blue shorts, and hard-sole slippers. Tempest was busy bandaging him up, a first-aid kit on the coffee table next to her, with Alpha-1 assisting her.

She tied up the last gauze bandage, “There, that should do it. At least you’re a fast healer, so you won’t be down for long. I’m just grateful you survived both those Psychic Duels. I was very worried about you. I… I was afraid I was going to lose you in that Duel against Lucifer. I’m so relieved to know you’ll make a full recovery. I know you’re upset that you didn’t get to finish off Lucifer for good, but at least we now know you have the power to fight him and win. We’ll get him sooner or later.”

Django smiled, “Thank you Tempest for everything. Yeah, I’m still upset about that, but at least I know that, even when weakened, I can still put up quite the fight. I guess Spirits are fighters. But, at least I know I have such great support in the form of you and the rest of the gang. I know the battle will be long, but I will destroy that Lucifer before any more lives are ruined by him.”

Alpha-1 stated, “It’s obvious that this Lucifer must be destroyed at all costs. But what happened today has just proven your great power. If your parents were still alive, I bet they’d be proud of you. You are fighting for a good cause, as a demon like Lucifer should not be permitted to do as he pleases. He will pay the price for his crimes, and I know you will be the one to collect his dues.”

“Thanks, Alpha-1. Just make sure you keep the system alert to any unusual gravitational readings and Lucifer’s energy signature. My Duel Gazer was on analysis mode, so I managed to scan him and input the new info into the main computer. When he makes his next move, we’ll be ready.”

“Affirmative. I will make sure the system will be ready. Next time that Lucifer shows his ugly mug, it’ll be the last time.”

Django got up, “Good. Now, I’m gonna get some rest. You’ll be okay by yourself for a bit, right Tempest?”

She nodded, “Yes, I’ll be perfectly fine. You need the rest after today. But we’re all proud of you, Django, and we’ll always support you.” She gave him a kiss on the cheek, “And I’ll always be here for you, forever.”

He gained a blush and a sheepish grin, but nodded in response. She returned it with a warm smile, her grey eyes sparkling.

Later that night, Django was still awake, looking up at his massive skylight. The stars were shining brightly, making him smile.

“Mom… dad… I’m sorry I failed to eliminate your killer. I hope you can forgive me. But I will get him sooner or later, and allow your spirits to rest in peace.” He looked at his gold ring, smiling, “The funny thing is… both my headband and gold ring came out of those battles completely unharmed. Not a scratch or tear anywhere. Guess you two are always with me, guiding and protecting me. I promise I will put an end to Lucifer’s rampage, just keep watching over me.”

He shifted positions, closed his eyes, and drifted off. As he slept, high above him, two stars started to glimmer even more brightly, as if responding to his promise.

Next Chapter: Memory

End of Number Hunters

Well, well, I used an anime effect for a card this time instead of its real effect. Not the first time I used a anime effect, but I do try to limit them as much as possible. But in this case, the anime effect is better, as it adds a bit more flare and interest (in case you don't know what card I'm referring to: Magical Hats).

Number Hunters has come to a close. Chaos Control is up next! What new adventures, terrors, and battles await? Will the war between the Spirits and Bloodlusts ever end? Find out next time!

Good gracious! No.96 is sadistic :/ poor Django! He has to endure a lot of hardships. I'm glad that Django is using other Xyz monsters other than Hope.
And the main antagonist is Lucifer? :p This should be very interesting!!
Can I ask you a question? What does the name django mean?

Yeah, I made Number 96 much more evil and sadistic than his TV counterpart, taking immense delight out of other's suffering. As Django theorizes, Number 96 is, in case you couldn't tell, born from Lucifer, not a random person like most Numbers, so that's why Lucifer considers him his "most trusted ally".

As for what the name "Django" means, in English, it has no meaning (not that I'm aware of, anyway). However, in his race, it has a meaning. What that meaning is, however, I'm not gonna say. You'll just have to wait and see in a later chapter. *grins*

Oh, come on!! I wanna know the meaning of his name!!! ~
I just finished reading chapter 19 ( I know, I'm faaaaaar behind :/) And I was honestly taken aback by the secrets revealed. Django is not a human? Omg he now has got to marry Tempest! They are both not humans. And Maxwell is also a Psykinox? The plot thickens!! I really liked the twist. But the best of all was Lusifer's surname....Bloodllust? Cute :3
I gotta say, Django is too stable for my taste. If I were him I'd smack a psychic fist into Lucifer's face. Come on he murdered hot parents and his entire family. I bet Tempest will take revenge for her over :p
Great chapter! Can't wait to read about the assassins.

@WindBlast; Heheh, you'll just have to wait and see. All will be revealed... maybe... heheheh...

Yep, Django and Maxwell are Psykinoxes, a legendary race (at least in this world), but are also feared. Their power is awesome, able to shape worlds.

As for Lucifer's name, yeah, I figured that combo would be pretty interesting. Lucifer is (if memory serves) the demon that represents the sin of Pride, and this Lucifer is a very proud and arrogant person, so I figured that name would work for him. As for his surname of Bloodlust, I felt it would be a nice contrast to the Spirit family name, kinda the whole "light vs dark" angle.

As for Django being so reserved and soft-spoken, after having lost so much at such a young age, along with having to endure so much, as well as fight to survive, it has "tailored" him, so to speak, to basically adapt to anything without fuss. Basically he ends up following the "grin and bear it" idea, as someone who can weather anything, no matter how much he suffers, though it does affect him in the long run. Later chapters will show the emotional strain and turmoil he's really under. Think of him similar to Yuya and Yuma in a sense; he does his best to maintain a friendly persona, putting on a "mask" to hide his pain, yet deep down is struggling to find peace within himself due to his losses, as well as overcome his pain. Look at him that way. You'll see in later chapters that, in reality, his suffering has taken a heavy toll on him over time, especially in the start of Chaos Control.

EDIT: You know, @WindBlast;, I just noticed something about Django's personality that is also reflected in some of his monsters, as well as alludes to characters in the actual series. I'm pretty certain these connections are unintentional, but the similarities are very striking.

Monster connections: Dark Magician: known for being noble, courageous, and kind, even though he had a "dark" nature. Junk Warrior: he gains greater strength (such as Divine Soul Mode) because he draws power from his friends, like Junk Warrior draws power from weak monsters. Utopia: his never-give-up and fight-to-the-last-breath determination, as well as his ability to adapt and evolve to better suit the situation at hand.

Character connections: Yugi: a soft-spoken, polite, and relatively shy individual, but can have emotional strain. Yusei: afraid of insects (although mostly in the dub), serious, very protective of his friends, and will willingly put himself in harms way for others. Yuma: Courageous, forges strong bonds, strong love for his family, but has emotional struggles. Yuya: Hides his pain with a "mask", wants to make people smile, loves his family, but has emotional turmoil due to severe losses.

Strange how that turned out, right? Like I said, I didn't purposely make those similarities, but somehow they're there.

@CynthiaLover; Really sorry about how long this took, but I'm done now :D I should point out that I'm not really familiar with the Yu-Gi-Oh universe.

PLOT:
I'm not going to pretend that you've done something mind-blowingly revolutionary here, but that's okay because you're clearly not trying to. The bad guys and the good guys are clearly defined. The storyline seems like it fits the Yu-Gi-Oh universe very well, and it all came together in the end. My main problem here is repetitiveness and the pacing issues that arise around it. From the very beginning it felt like the duels were all very high stakes, and weirdly that made me even less concerned about their outcome. I knew who would win from the very beginning of each one. No one ever really lost and then had to develop because of that loss. I myself have a character that never really loses and I've received plenty of complaints, so I understand where you're sitting. Losses sometimes just don't fit into the storyline. But I feel like with the way you've portrayed the characters, someone needs to get beaten at some point so that they can deal with what it feels like. And that brings me to...

CHARACTERS: There are a lot. I'm not going to lie. They each got their own debut duel chapter to show off their decks and playstyles which was sweet. Except for the one guy that doesn't really do dueling. It's been a little while since I read this and he wasn't really relevant so I can't honestly remember his name. Every character needs a purpose, otherwise there's no reason to have them reoccur. Maybe it's just because this story was so duel-focused that we didn't get to see much else. I hope in the sequel you get to give everyone their time in the spotlight.

I liked the Goldwing family, and Lucifer was a pretty basic villain. Nothing wrong with that. Django himself was an interesting enough character, although he felt a little... already developed, if you know what I mean. Like he's already been through a bunch of stuff that has shaped him into a badass, and now he can't develop any farther. Although that makes for a cool character, it becomes hard to relate to him, and makes him kind of boring as a protagonist. I guess my main gripe in that regard is that he already knows all about his psychic powers and how to use them, although not very well. I think more focus on his training and how that changed him would have been great.

Tempest is another curious case. She has such a great background, but it gets thrown away. She's a member of this mysterious hidden race with magical powers, just like Django, but I honestly couldn't tell if that was actually a big deal or not. Django just kind of rolled with it and it was rarely mentioned again. Maybe I misunderstood, are Elementals common knowledge? I'd also like to see what kind of wind powers she has, since they weren't really demonstrated and would make for some great development. You can definitely go a long ways and in a lot of directions with her character though, so that's a very good thing.

WRITING: I can't complain about the dialogue much, since it's very anime. No problem there. Your description could use some work though. It seems to always be condensed into one place. Like when a new monster comes into play. You don't have to describe every last detail, just the stuff that's important. Give us the general idea in a sentence or two. When you've got a bunch of monsters constantly coming and going, it's not worth devoting a whole paragraph to what each one looks like. And even then, that's only for big important stuff. For general environmental description or non-vital specifics, don't include them in one huge info dump. Drop an extra adjective here or there instead. Or better yet, use dialogue to have your characters give us an idea of what it looks like (you actually do this quite well).

You did do a great job of explaining the rules and gameplay. You never did a huge exposition, but even an uninitiated whelp like me could easily follow along and understand.

OVERALL: Having a large cast of characters is damn difficult to do. It's possible, but when you've got a bunch of characters who don't seem to contribute much, it's hard to relate to them. You're a good writer and clearly passionate. I'll definitely try to take a look at the sequel when I get a chance. Keep up the good work!

Review Extravaganza 14/50

@AetherX; Thank you for the in-depth review. And don't worry that it took you so long to read this, we all have our own pace to do things (and it is 30 chapters long).

For starters, after going over my own chapters, I can see your point about every Duel seemingly having high-stakes. I guess I made them a bit overly dramatic. I tried to make them (well, some of them) show development, such as Fiona overcoming her fears, or Cody finding his style and rhythm, but I admit that may have been lost in translation.

Secondly, Django has had past adventures, and due to the harshness of his upbringing, it had affected the way he acts and thinks. Think of his backstory similar to Yusei's, the Yugioh 5D's main protagonist, who was also very stoic and serious. (If you need some insight in the subject, the Yugioh wikia has an abundance of information, even to those who know very little about it can understand it). You'll see in the first chapter of season 2 (Memory) Django's inner turmoil and how much his friends have influenced him. As for Tempest, I guess I should've made her situation more clear. Since she was ostracized by her clan, she's disconnecting herself from them completely, starting anew. Because of previous treatment, she basically wants to separate herself from that and start things over. Now that she's found acceptance, what she really desired, she's pretty much forgotten her past living situation. While, in a sense, she's acting like Kaiba, who does everything he can to bury the past, she does retain some concern for her race, but has a hard time admitting it. Her past will catch up to her later on, forcing her to do something about it. And as for Jack, I've stated numerous times that he's pretty much the Tristan/Duke of this series, so he's not a avid player, only understanding a little more than the basics, so his development is, admittedly, far and few between.

In the case of Lucifer, while I admit he can be very standard for a villain, the nature between the Spirit/Bloodlust family hatred will be revealed later on, which will shed more light on him. I tried to make him more of an enigma, his true motives hidden until they need to be seen. While he does have standard villain traits, later chapters will start to reveal the true nature behind him. After a while, he'll start going to extremes in order to get what he wants.

Eheheh, I guess I can be overly-detailed in terms of the monsters and such. That's a reoccuring thing with me, to describe anything I write about in fairly high details, though at least I stopped describing the Spells/Traps images. I know I really need to scale it back, but it's become such a habit that I do it instinctively. Because some of the other subjects I've written about (such as my old Breath of Fire and Zoids series), I've had to explain a lot of details as they were little-known series, it just became second nature as an end result. I'll do my best to try to scale it back, but as they say, "Old habits die hard".

In any case, I appreciate the in-depth review. My story writing is mainly stress relief (as I've stated numerous times), so I'm not the most confident about it. I know there is plenty of room for improvement, and the fact that you took the time to help me by reviewing it will help me in the future. But I'm glad to see that people like you are willing to read it and tell me what they think of it, helping me improve and giving me confidence (which, I admit, I don't have much of). Thank you for your time, it really means a lot.

Finally!!! I have time to catch up. Read chapters 20-22. I really liked the entrance of the Tron family and I really, really liked your take on III. He is so gentle and kind. I can say for sure that I will be rooting for him. I had a fanboy moment when Hope victory was summoned :3
8 more chapters to go and then the sequel starts :3

Chapters 23-24 were awesome. IV is my favorite male character from zexal, it was really amazing to see him in action. I reaaally hope that he will get to do more work in the upcoming chapters. I gotta say that I also liked that Django used Dark Paladin this duel and not hope. Great chapters :)
