apart from a silcoon and ralts in gen IV, I didn't start shiny hunting until gen VI, when it became a lot easier. That combined with generally decent luck means it's rare that I have long hunts. Part of me wishes I had longer hunts more often, because then maybe getting the shinies would feel a little bit more satisfying, but the other part of me is happy that I don't have to sink too many hours into getting each shiny.

I, for one, am not really interested in deliberately finding Shiny Pokémon. The two I found in UM were purely luck.
I tried chain fishing twice in X just to see what it felt like. It yielded me a Shiny Octillery and a Shiny Lanturn. All of my other Shinies have either been found by luck, gotten from trades, or obtained from in-game events.

Trying to find a shiny ruins the value of it in my eyes. I prefer the shinies that I only have because the universe decided that I should have them. Like that time I was searching for a Magmar in the Burnt Tower in SoulSilver, and never found a Magmar but did find a shiny Koffing, or that time when by pure chance I received a shiny Tepig from Professor Birch in Alpha Sapphire. These experiences are far more memorable to me than throwing away an uncountable amount of Pokémon just because they don't have the exact perfect PV.

Thank goodness I'm not the only one who thinks like that. My first Shiny that was not the Red Gyarados or Benga's gift was a Shiny Banette that I found completely randomly from a trash can in Pokémon X. It was definitely an enjoyable experience. In the same game, I also once found a Shiny Mightyena at the Friend Safari, completely without trying to look for one. I've also gotten some Shinies from trades, either by GTS or direct trades: Tornadus, Beedrill, Gourgeist, and Flygon. And all those I got without even specifically looking for a Shiny, so I my book, those count as random.

Also, while not a physical copy, I also once found a Shiny Dunsparce in my emulated version of HeartGold while using Rock Smash in Dark Cave.

A fun Finnish hockey fact:

Finland and Sweden have always had a friendly rivalry in ice hockey. In 1995, the hockey championships were held in Sweden. The Swedes were so sure of their victory that they made a song called "Den Glider In" ("It Slides In", based on a line spoken by a Swedish hockey commentator, which is even heard during the song itself). The chorus even contains a part saying "We will take gold again!" Both Finland and Sweden made it to the finals, so of course the Swedes were hoping for a victory on their home arena. However, the match ended in Finland's clear victory with 4-1, earning Finland its first-ever ice hockey world championship. As a sign of irony, Finns then appropriated "Den Glider In" for themselves, so now, it's actually a Finnish hockey song.

PS. Swedish is Finland's second national language, in case you didn't know.

Life is all about taking the randomness of the universe and bending it to your will. Ergo, shiny hunting is just an extension of that. :p

Must... resist... the urge... to make a comment... about not understanding... the appeal of... Shiny hunting...

...Dangit.

I guess it can't be helped that some people have bad opinions...

I don't really care about Shiny hunting
Like if I get an SOS battle i'll halfheartedly chain-hunt but I don't really have enough patience for it

having a shitty night, asked ranya to give me a shiny celesteela to cheer me up, but no dice

the only solace is that it started to rain, but of course, it just stopped

you give me happiness only to rip it away, universe...
