Discord's character was inspired by Q from Star Trek The Next Generation and voiced by the same actor, John de Lancie. The post I quoted from ME is one of Q's lines from Star Trek TNG, the scene with Discord eating books in MLP:FiM is seen as a reference to that line in TNG :)
 
I watched MLP a lot as a kid, and now I don't know how to feel towards this show. I mean, it's not really in my style, althrough I kinda liked how they explored the theme of friendship. But I'll probally not gonna watch this again.
As for Star Trek, I've only seen some of the more recent movies.
