I don't care if the new Smash has DLC or not. People seem to have incessant hate for DLC, but I don't see the problem if it's adding brand new stuff. Like the Skyrim DLC that added an entire new region to explore.

But that's probably just me.

I don't have a problem with updates, but I don't like the trend of making users pay extra for features that probably should have been in the game from the start. Sometimes it's worth it, but I think game developers should put enough thought and time into a game to at least make all characters unlockable in the game without having to pay for them.

Well, fighting games are a different story. Other games though, I'm all for it.

I was mostly referring to fighting games and other similar situations. The game Injustice seemed to have purposefully left out a lot of characters so that they could make people pay for more later. It looks like a good enough game, but that's being pretty cheap.

Yeah, actually, I think there is a lot more cases where DLC is justified than people think. Maybe not as many as there are cheap cash ins but still enough that I don't think good DLC is a dying breed. At least Bethesda no longer sells horse armor ;D

I definitely think Injustice deliberately left out characters for DLC, scumbaggedly (new word!)

I don't like the idea of characters as DLC. Why couldn't they have been there from the start?

I was reminded of how much I hate unlockable characters when I was at my friends the other day. We were on her Wii, so there were only the default characters. No Marth, no Luigi, no Ganon... ;-;

I was forced to play as Kirby

Greedy pricks. They're making enough money off the game as is.

What kind of dark lord hasn't unlocked anyone?!
N-no Jigglypuff either...The h-horror D:

Deadlines deadlines deadlines
It takes a huge amount of time to develop characters even for a fighting game (look at Skullgirls and all the donation drives they use for their cast, and that's sprites!)

She doesn't have Smash herself, I brought my game over. Next time I need to bring my Wii too, I can't live without the aforementioned three.

I think what Rainbow meant was that since they were on her friend's Wii which didn't have any SSB save data, it only had the default characters and no one was unlocked. xD

I suppose that's true. Still, I don't like it. :p

Then don't set the deadline for such a ridiculous date. One thing I actually like that Nintendo generally does is they don't set a release date until a couple of months before. That means they have a bit of wiggle room if they need it.

Yeah, setting deadlines at the start of a project can lead to rushed stuff (Sonic 06 much?).

Oh, Sonic 06...

But on the bright side, that falls into the "so bad, it's good category". For me at least, cause it's just so hilarious

That ended up happening to SoulCalibur V as well. The story mode was a fourth of what it was supposed to have been and there's barely anything to do unless you like playing online all the time. :I

Tis true about the terrible deadlines
But rarely is the developer actually able to freely decide the release date. Plus holidays and timing are key. Much as it would pain the average fan, publishers do strategically choose release dates and no missing character will postpone that.

(Sakurai is lucky in that Nintendo seems to be pretty flexible in their deadlines lately judging by how long Pikmin 3 took to release xD)
