I don't think it was optional. I mean, I guess technically it was, but we know that they like adding new Pokemon characters, and if they're going to add a new Pokemon character it's only logical to have them represent the newest generation. It was very unlikely that there wasn't going to be a Generation VI rep. I guess one could make the argument that mega evos count as genertation VI representation, but that's trickier. I don't really think they count, but that's just me.Fact of the matter is, there aren't "definite" spots anyway. We don't even know the full roster. =w=; And honestly, Greninja would kinda be taking up one if anyone's going to use the spot argument. Having a Gen VI representative was entirely optional.I'm inclined to disagree, it was definitely possible due to its new Mega evolutions. It could have replaced Lucario or even Charizard. This didn't happen, of course, but it was definitely pawsible.
Well he's almost certainly not getting in now, if they removed Charizard he'd probably have some sort of chance but it seems really unlikely they'd add two new Pokemon characters without scrapping an old one first. I'm not counting the apparent removal of Red, Ivysaur, and Squirtle since Charizard is still there.I have my doubts. ._. But we'll see. If he gets in, you get cookies for life. =w=;definitely possible. I agree that Mewtwo was definitely possible.
I thought he would get in, even. I would say his chances are much lower but still fairly decent.
Quite so, quite so.I'm still pleasantly surprised that the Greninja conspiracy theorists were somehow right.

Substitute and TLink are adorable plushies
Greninja seems like a perfect fit for SSB.
I think Sylveon was a decent candidate, maybe Aegislash too. Possibly Diancie. Greninja was probably the best choice, even if I did prefer the others by a significant margin.Greninja seems like a perfect fit for SSB.
I agree. It's probably the best choice out of the Gen VI Pokemon. Chesnaught is too Bowswer-like, we already have a Fire starter so that leaves Delphox out. Greninja is really interesting because he's a ninja like Sheik, but with more variety given the Water based attacks.

They even had Gen V to pick from. Or maybe older Gens. ._.;I don't think it was optional. Again. I don't think Charizard getting in had any more of an impact on Mewtwo's chances than Greninja did.Well he's almost certainly not getting in now, if they removed Charizard he'd probably have some sort of chance but it seems really unlikely they'd add two new Pokemon characters without scrapping an old one first. it's the latest genEither way, Gen VI wasn't anymore demanding of roster representation than any other Gens are imo.
I understand that logic apart from Sylveon. It has those feeler things which could most likely be used as whips, which was what Ivysaur used in place of limbs for most of its Brawl attacks. Aegislash might have been awkward since it has to swing its entire body to really attack, although I suppose it could use its clothlike arms for its more basic moves.I think Sylveon was a decent candidate, maybe Aegislash too. They don't generally like to use 4-legged characters since it limits how they can attack and the movement pattern is so different. Aegislash would have been even trickier since it has no limbs (unless you count those ribbon things as arms, but they don't really attack), it floats, and doesn't really do much other than slash. Also it's not really that recognizable by people outside of the fandom, and recognizable characters is something they shoot for. Diancie would have been interesting, but it was introduced way too late in the generation to be very identifiable, even if it is getting a movie. At least Lucario was used in a lot of promo before DP came out.

Of course it was going to get a rep.
Jigglypuff is almost certainly getting in due to her seniority.I think just Jiggs left for Pokemon, then?
Don't anyone dare quote this and say "Jiggs is not getting in"
Other than Aura Sphere/Shadow Ball, they really didn't :VLucario and Mewtwo played fairly similarly in past games.

That's true, Ivysaur at least had things like Vine Whip and Bind.I understand that logic apart from Sylveon. Since they base the move list on the source games as closely as possible, Sylveon wouldn't make a lot of sense in this context since his feelers are associated more with expressing emotions and tenderness than they are used in combat. It doesn't have any moves that I'm aware of that make use of them, so I doubt it would use them much in a game like this.

I personally like my laugh. I laugh and people who are not used to it actually look visibly shaken. It's hilarious!
