Re: Random Friendly Messages Episode X
Generally, it's wiser to leave things up to a machine only when the task is tedious and inconvenient. I wouldn't say simply sleeping is something that fits either of those enough to warrant blowing valuable money and effort into building a silly machine.
And yes, it is a mighty time consumer. But honestly, school/work is a much greater one. If anything, sleep is our time to not just perform something functional for the body, but also to just relax. Not have to worry about as much. And of course, for those that like it, dream.
And for the hours you sleep normally, if you just up and got rid of them, what are you going to do with that time otherwise? There isn't much to honestly do in the early hours of the morning or late at night. Even if people could work 24/7 and keep stores and whatnot open, they wouldn't. No one is that much of a work-a-holic. They have families they want to go home to and/or things they want to do with their spare time.
Understanding the inner workings is valuable scientific knowledge. I wouldn't say needing something to more or less replace the function sleep serves is necessary though. Aren't there better things would look into creating with out time? Maybe a cure for some of the cancer varieties out there, or something actually necessary?I never said that not sleeping is good. I'm saying that we don't fully understand the inner workings of sleep.
It isn't difficult, but it's a mighty time consumer. Having more time is always a good thing.
