If Mega Garchomp is a joke, it's the kind that makes you laugh to death. 'Cause I use one, and it's actually pretty effective.

Mega Garchomp, faster than Absol, uses and overpowered Outrage and knocks out the Absol in one hit. The end.

Well obviously it's effective, the question is, is it more effective than regular Garchomp just holding a Life Orb? That extra 10 base speed means a lot in competitive. And I'm aware that it's helped a lot with Ttar or Hippowdon support, but not every team can have one of those.

what @User_Name; said, and
252+ Atk Life Orb Absol Play Rough vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Garchomp: 294-346 (82.1 - 96.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

It also gets boosts to every other stat, and you know what? The slightly lower amount of damage and speed is worth boosted defenses and the lack of recoil on every move to me.

Mega Garchomp performs an entirely different role than his non-Mega counterpart, so a comparison isn't entirely fitting.
Garchomp is a general sweeper. Megachomp is a wallbreaker, due to the raw power afforded by his higher Sp Atk stat and Sand Force.

The physical bulk significantly improves, but the special bulk hardly does. And uninvested Life Orb Garchomp has 255 Sp. Attack with a neutral nature, hardly lower than Mega Garchomp's 276. The lack of recoil is obviously an advantage but not a huge one. In game, Mega Garchomp is better because Life Orb recoil is extremely annoying when fainting Pokemon after Pokemon, and there aren't extremely picky speed tiers, but competitively that speed loss is a major drawback.

Everything I said in response to Charles, although I will give you Sand Force. Thing is, it requires Ttar or Hippowdon.

I'm not trying to argue that Mega Garchomp is unviable, it's certainly better over regular Garchomp in certain situations, but even when it is better, it hardly is. Aside from with Sand support, which requires you use Ttar or Hippowdon. The entire point of a Mega is to be significantly better than its base form, which Mega Garchomp obviously isn't. Mega Mewtwo Y, probably Mega Alakazam (not entirely sure on Trace's potential) and Mega Latios (we know its stats, which I will find in a moment) fall into a similar boat. Maybe a few others, not sure.
