Re: Rain Dance Messages 11: Swift Swim and Thunder Away
This is from 2011 so the percentages may be slightly off but notice how speeding is number 2.
I think that graph above nullifies your argument, but i'd just like to say that i never speed. I always stay 5kph under the speed limit. Or more if the weather conditions are not favourable.
A few years ago, WA police ran an advertising campaign
Warning, above TV ad is a little graphic. It was run by WA police in 2004, among others.
Due to the graphic nature of the ads, i have put them in a spoiler tag.
Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. Speeding is one of the main causes of death of Western Australian roads. Others being fatigue, alcohol, and distractions (phones).Anyway back on speeding. It would be hypocritical for me to say I don't speed. I know it is wrong but I still do it but you just have to be cautious and very aware. There is being bloody stupid and speeding in areas that would be absolutely stupid to do so and areas where you can get away with it. We need to remember that speeding is not the most major cause of death on the roads.
In the case i mentioned, the cop in question didn't use a speed gun. He drove behind the guy and found he was doing 61 in a 60 zone. The fine was eventually canceled.Police have pulled people for over 1 kmph but that's really, really rare and kind of pointless. You can easily take it to court and state that the police radars aren't 100% reliable which is the truth. That's why they don't generally pull people around 1-5 km/hr because their radars are pretty unreliable as well. Also what's the point of pulling someone getting pulled over for over 1 clicks the speed limit? I mean they waste time when there could be other issues on the road or someone else speeding faster by a long shot.

I agree that cars aren't toys but it is naive to think that people don't speed and speeding drivers are the worst drivers. We do not talk about the serious risk associated with fatigue, conditions or the risk even associated with driving slower, a lot slower than the speed limit. I also agree that speeding is a serious problem but I still speed when I can and need to regardless of time or whatever, I just pick my sections whilst being aware of my surroundings, nearby cars, people and such along with my braking points, intersections and roundabouts.
I'm not saying what I'm doing is right, it is completely wrong but let's not be naive and state that speeding drivers are the worst thing on the roads.
