Re: Random Messages Thread: TM 12 - Water Gun

Fremium games are getting way too popular .-.

That's because they are good for the customer... They get to choose exactly how much they spend on the game... and very profitable for the business running them. They get the customer hooked on the game, then dangle the microtransactions in front of the customer.

We've been seeing this in the MMO space for a while longer than mobile games have... and for most MMOs, it is the only way for them to survive as they just can't compete with the giant - world of warcraft - if they were to do it the old fashioned way.

doesn't mean you have to like it... Personally, I prefer the full-priced games or the subscription games... But free to play/freemium games have their place.

Re: Rondam Messages Thread: Chapter 12 - pls dunt troll

It's just a gimmick, I'm betting it'll die quickly as soon as it's released.

Unless you're made of cash who can: 1) afford a fancy phone 2) Have that amount of money to travel a lot 3) Pay for the stupid freemium piece of MY GOD I HATE FREEMIUMS.
Then it won't exactly be popular.

You don't really need a fancy phone. As long as it runs the latest version of Android, the cheaper phones should be good too.

I'm running an iphone 4s still and it can still run most apps.

I'm going to have to disagree with you about that. It's not good for the customer in the least, it's a manipulative mind game system that only helps those who get money from it. It's fine if there's not a giant pay wall in there. Unfortunately that's how just about all of them are. Notice how just about all of the games on top grossing are just about all fremium. Its fine in small amounts, Fallout Shelter for example is a great example this. Whenever the game basically forces you to pay, that's an issue. As to MMOs, they make a fair amount of money off of subscriptions as it is. Sure I don't have to like it and it don't, it's an issue imo

I just sat in a free Taco Bell drive through for 55 minutes. Worth it.

Re: Random Messages Thread: TM 12 - Water Gun

guys it's not even out yet and we don't know the exact details of the microtransactions.
some games like injustice mobile and team fortress 2 do it right, others don't
my friend on the PPS thinks it will be to allow a rarer pokemon to appear where it normally can't (like a rayquaza in your house)

I was discussing fremium games in general. Tf2 is a good example as well

I'm guessing you'll have limited Pokeballs that replenish daily or something but you can pay to get more sooner and maybe pay for Great Balls and stuff.

I hope that's the route it goes, I hear that the mobile version of Pokemon whateverthatgameiscalled suffers from microtransactions

That's the thing though, you don't have to pay. I haven't played Fallout Shelter, but Hearthstone, there are quite a lot of players that have gotten to make rank using only cards they earned though playing the game.

Some games do it more in a scummy way though, I do acknowledge. Hearthstone simply places a shop button on the menu screen. Other games popup ads to sell microtransactions after every game, or even cut those games short or give you other unfair limits on play.

Companies can only make money from what customers are willing to spend. While customers continue to support the scummy freemium games, and not the honest freemium games, they'll continue to make them.

As to MMOs, they make a fair amount of money off of subscriptions as it is. Sure I don't have to like it and it don't, it's an issue imo

No. No they don't. Star Wars The Old Republic nearly killed itself by launching as a subscription game. Despite holding the Star Wars IP, the game quickly died off due to the forced subscription business model. When the game switched to freemium with optional subscription, the game stabilized.

World of Warcraft and Eve Online are the only MMOs that really do well with the subscription method.

Of course, then you come to what other players call double dipping.

The Old Republic runs under the same expansion release model that WoW does. TOR gives subscribers their expansions for free, only the freemium players have to pay for the expansions. And the base game itself is free.

World of Warcraft charges you for the base game, then you have to pay for the subscription. Then you have to pay for every expansion.

That method - in the MMO space at least - is worse than the freemium games, at least for the customer. But while customers continue to support it, Blizzard won't change how they do things.
