"Downfall". 10/10.

Great movie. The main character resembles Hitler quite well, not only in appearance but in attitude as well. They did a good job showing that attempting to humanize Hitler's character won't work.

And I love how many Hitler parodies are spread on YouTube. XD

Hoodwinked: too.

2/10

Bad animation, dumb plot. Some of the jokes were funny, but most of them just sort of fell flat.

Princess Mononoke
10/10
My favorite movie; quite possibly the best anime movie I've ever seen.

Four Lions

It's been out for a while now (May 2010) but I picked it up for a fiver looking for something to watch that night after seeing it starred Kayvan Novak, usually a pretty damn funny man. This film is a British comedy following four jihad men who attempt to become suicide bombers - except that doesn't work out so well. They make a few comedic mistakes and insult each other along the way through a satirical, pitiful and absurd black-humoured adventure - while still showing a new side to what terrorists really are other than the monsters we believe them to be. Not something I'd expected to be brilliant but it gave me a good few laughs and, surprisingly, made me somewhat attached to the characters, so I'll be giving it a 7/10. Warnings would have to include the fact that British humour isn't often for everyone, although it may be difficult to obtain outside of the U.K. anyway - I wouldn't know.

Cars 2

I liked it myself, but it was a little dark (a lot of cars died in the film, most of them nameless)...and to top it off as soon as I got home I found out this was Pixar's WORST film...wha?

Evangelion 2.22: You Can (Not) Advance (Warning: Spoilers)

Oh how the title makes so much sense after watching the movie. I felt the title of this one was far more poignant than Evangelion 1.11: You Are (Not) Alone. You Can (Not) Advance is now ranked with Memories of Nobody (Bleach movie 1) as my favourite titles.

I'll be honest, from a narrative point of view, I felt that the previous film was a bit of a mess - a good film, but a messy one. 2.22 doesn't really improve on that much (Does 10 minutes go by without a desperate struggle against an Angel?). However, unlike the last film, this film had a lot more to distract me from the messy story: The characters. No, I'm not talking about the new additions to Rebuild; Asuka and Mari, I'm talking mainly about Rei Ayanami (Which is funny, as from watching the original series, I prefered Asuka over Rei).

What has turned me to Rei's side is merely one part of what I feel makes the film's title You Can (Not) Advance a very fitting one. I don't really think there's a need to state this, but Rei is known for being the quiet type. I felt the way that Rei slowly opened up to Shinji (which in fact started, albeit slowly, in the first film) was incredibly powerful. I myself am a quiet person who does the occasional token gesture, so I found the whole Dinner-Party thing to be my favourite aspect of this movie. In the build up, we had Rei changing, becoming more human. Asuka changing, becoming more concerned about Shinji (shipping flags went crazy around this point in the movie!), Gendo getting closer to his son and even Shinji was started to smile - it was as if they were advancing. Oh wait, you can not advance. Angel attack - everything comes to a grinding halt (and perhaps even goes on rewind). The way things started to advance, then stopped truly shows something we can relate to in every day life - how we want to move on from things, but suddenly, are thrown back into the depths of it.
Evangelion is one massive mind fuck. However, this time, I feel that Hideaki Anno decided, instead of confusing his audience, to help them understand the human aspect to this series - and from this film alone, I'll be more than willing to give a thumbs up and a pat on the back for it. Even now, I'm waiting for that tea party with Gendo, Shinji, Rei, Asuka and Misato to happen.

That said though, there were a couple of things I wasn't happy about with this film. A couple of things with breasts - Asuka and Mari. Aside from Asuka creating a bit of a love triangle with Shinji and Rei; the two of them did nothing of importance in this entire movie. I will hold my breath though; being a writer of a planned series, I understand the need to introduce some characters before they become important to the plot, to show your audience that they are there. From the brief 3.0 preview, it seems like Mari will play a larger role in the next installment though. Oh, and Asuka has an eye-patch, which is kinda sexy in a weird way.

The main question is - when the hell will we see 3.0? Nothing is known about a Japanese release (despite 2.0 being out for 2 years in Japan) and FUNimation obviously haven't been told the English title, as "Q" (the Japanese title) was used in the preview.

And lastly, a few minor points: Would it really have killed the staff to make even 10 more minutes to allow Asuka to interact more with Shinji?
How can they can show Rei's nipples but not Asuka's?
And way to go Shinji; your whining and indecisiveness was irritating before, but here you go and cause the third impact - no wonder Gendo's always frowning!

Score: 9.0 / 10

John Carpenter's The Thing: 9/10.

Man, that was a really good movie. Plus, it has Kurt Russel in it(my dad and I categorize him as a "Movie Badass" [for $5000, Alex!]). Only thing that might be a turn-off is the very......shocking effects(Creatures that jump up from a sample of blood when exposed to heat? A head that fell off of the infected guy's body starts walking on it's own? A dog's head splits open, and it's skull falls off?), to say the least.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon

it was good i'll give it that, full of action and a good way to end a trilogy. I though some bits were just fillers and quite boring.
The ending is questionable, its like they ran out of ideas and rushed the ending just to finish the film.
I still enjoyed it very much and despite some minor annoyances it was a excellent film

i'd give it a 9/10

The First Grader

10/10. Easily. Of course the film had to be dramatised slightly, but in all honestly there hasn't been a film that has moved me or made me so emotional since Green Mile. I would say it's one of those films everyone should see.

transformers 3 DOTM (in 3D)

a solid 7.5/10

not terrible but not a classic by any stretch of the imagination - worth watching at the cinema in 3D & (being a TF geek) i will buy the DVD but i honestly don't expect to sit through it more than once at home

Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon.

8/10. The plot is lame, but I came for the stunt work and SFX and this movie delivered. Giant robots + massive amounts of collateral damage = movie awesomeness.

The Thief and the Cobbler Recobbled

3/10

Vincent Price as Zigzag, Tack and Yum Yum's character designs are the only things saving this from being a complete waste. This movie was a total WTF but at least didn't have the issues of Richard Williams other movie I saw (raggedy Ann and Andy's musical adventure. Suggested incest, awkward innuendo, inflation fetishes and a stuffed camel on acid? Hellllllllllllp! Even as a kid I KNEW something was wrong with that movie. Watching it as an adult? Yeah, theory confirmed.

Tangled
9/10
Really impressive artwork and animation and quirky characters. I enjoyed it thoroughly.

The Grudge

10/10

Very scary. Love Sam Raimi movies. Also, the credits included Japanese people with the names, Satoshi, Takeshi and Kasumi! It's an omen, I'm sure of it!
