Movies/TV Rate the Last Movie you Watched

IT Chapter 2
I enjoyed it, perhaps not quite as good as chapter 1, I have no idea why it needed to be 2hr 45m long though.

Ni no Kuni - 5/10. Uuuuugh. Wanted to like this, but it was a generic, cliche fantasy anime, and it would have been fine if it was just that. Then the awful ending came out of nowhere and catapulted this movie into straight up WTF territory, killing an already flimsy premise. Whyyyy?!

Weathering With You

My brother and I went to see this after they announced a week of subbed screenings at a few select cinemas in my country and I went in feeling a bit skeptical. Visually and from an animation perspective, this film is impressive and it's a real emotional roller coaster. Plus, once again, Radwimps provide a great soundtrack. However, the plot does leave you asking a lot of questions and I feel it wasn't as good as Your Name.

7/10

V for vendetta for the first time.

Great piece of film making, Natalie Portman outstanding, what a film!

Dragon Quest: Your Story - 6/10. Average, but I don't think it's as bad as people are making it out to be. The animation and music are great, but the movie suffers in terms of pacing, plot, and character development, trying to compress a massive game into a two hour movie. And don't even get me started on the bad twist ending (Though I still think Ni no Kuni's was worse). Not great, but not the piece of garbage people are making it out to be.

Ride Your Wave - 9/10. I usually hate romance movies, because they're either cliche, melodramatic, or have the characters be needlessly stupid/idiotic for the sake of forced conflict. I was absolutely NOT expecting this movie to blow me away the way it did, and I am damn glad I saw it! Everything about it just works so well, and it completely avoids all the cliches and trappings that are so common in romance themed media! I saw it in my theater the other day, and as soon as this comes out on Blu-Ray, I am buying it on the very first day!

Harriet - 8.5/10. Definitely a favorite historical movie for sure. Very compelling and interesting, with great performances from a wonderful cast, well done set pieces and costumes fitting for the era, and Harriet Tubman as a person really deserved to have a movie made about her. Better late than never, I always say! I do think having Harriet sing seemed a little forced and maybe kinda Hollywood-ish.

Sonic the Hedgehog: 7/10

Surprisingly fun and enjoyable. It was honestly a perfectly fine family movie starring Sonic the Hedgehog. Sonic was cute and likable, and the Obligatory Human Friend actually felt like he helped the movie by being there, rather than stealing the plot away from Sonic like so many other characters of that type do.

Twilight: 6/10. Found it quite amusing at parts, it was my first time watching it, but the movie kept me engaged enough. I can see how it appeals perfectly to a specific demographic.

Before that, I saw Knives Out: 9.5/10. I predicted the twist but that doesn't make it a bad move. An original whodunnit that's this fantastic is a rarity nowadays and I would love for it to inspire more.

A Cinderella Story - 5/10. No, movie, you can't sell your movie just on Hillary Duff alone. This was just a trite romance movie that's too cliche for its own good. In fact, if you take away the whole Cinderella plot, it'd just be yet another romance movie with nothing of real value.

A Troll In Central Park - 2/10. Why did I make myself suffer through this?! God awful movie that pretty much fulfills every stereotype people believe about kids movies. How in the world did Don Bluth stoop to such a low?!

The Last Kids on Earth - 7/10. Eh, this was cute. Nothing great, but not bad either. But two things made me rate this low: Jack's obnoxious personality, and his dialogue being little more than preteen pandering slang and gamer lingo. Just listening to it made me bang my head against the wall. In all honesty, June and Dirk were the best characters in this.

Wasn't this the movie where he asked his name to be removed, or was that "The Pebble and the Penguin"? On the other hand, he has admitted that the movie was pretty bad.

Unbroken - 7/10. This was okay. Not great, but not bad. I originally wasn't planning to see this, but I saw a Reel Story episode talking about it along with the person who inspired it, Louis Zamperini. I hear some people say this movie should have included everything after he got saved from the POW camp, but I think leaving it out was a good idea, because if they tried to jam it into an already packed movie, it would have made it too bloated and made it take on too much. I liked it well enough.

Homekilling Queen - 4/10. Yet another dumb Lifetime movie about a psycho blonde girl who wants to be homecoming queen above everything else in the world...and her bad behavior is enabled by her just as crazy family. I wanted to rate this lower, but the ending wound up being rather satisfying, and the other main character's relationship with her mother was genuinely heartwarming and well done.

I just rented the new Little Women movie on YouTube, so I'm gonna watch that next.

100 Dinge -6.5/10
A German movie about two friends who make a bet, they have to live 100 days without anything and can only receive one new object per day. It's an interesting plot, but sadly the movie prefers to give priority to the 4 or 5 subplots that exist rather than their survival under those conditions. Also, one of the main characters becomes progressively less likable as the runtime goes on. But it's a fun and entertaining movie, has an interesting philosophy about happiness and consumerism and has more or less a satisfying ending (the part related to the friend's relationship is satisfying, the part related to the mobile app they created is very contrived).

El Camino: A breaking bad movie-7/10
It's very satisfying to see Jessie Pinkman making his own decisions after all this years, and those decisions are very logical yet risky at the same time. However, many of the flashbacks are unnecessary, it doesn't have the surprise factor Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul are known for having and you need to remember Season 5 to its finest details to get full enjoyment of it.

Little Women (2019) - 7/10. Eh, I liked this one okay, but I feel the 90s version with Winona Ryder was better. I mean, the acting was great at times (Laurie and Jo), but other times it really missed the mark (Amy's actress in particular was especially grating). The anachronistic order and the way the movie jumped around between the past and present made things happen too quickly, and the whole thing just felt bloated to me. The ending was cute, though.

For The Love of a Child - 8/10. Out of all the Lifetime movies I've seen, this one is definitely one of their best. Great acting, the main characters were reasonably well developed, it expertly explored child abuse in a variety of angles, and wasn't overly melodramatic or cheesy like most movies of its kind. But it does leave some things unexplained and some minor characters were one-note (Like Jacob's abusive parents). Still, definitely check it out if you can. It's up on YouTube.

Sitara: Let Girls Dream - 9/10. Wow, I wasn't expecting this to be good. A completely silent, 10 minute short that explores the plight of Middle Eastern child brides, all told from the perspective of the main character's little sister. With no words at all, it manages to make every character sympathetic, even the villains, and the message is well presented without bordering on preachy or on the nose. I also love that even though the ending isn't necessarily happy, there's still an undercurrent of hope throughout. It's on Netflix if you want to watch it, and trust me, its great! I hope whoever made this gets to make bigger projects!

The Passion of Joan of Arc - 4/10. I don't see why this is considered a great movie. There's way too many close-ups, some of the camera angles are weird (There are scenes with people running but they're upside down for some reason), random scenes are thrown in with no explanation (What was up with that one scene with a breastfeeding baby?), and Maria Falconetti...really isn't that good of an actress here, and considering it's said she never worked on any movies before or after this one, it shows. She always looks like she's either daydreaming or like she's about to have a seizure, and the glassy eyed faces she makes when she stares into the camera is super creepy. The Voices of Light soundtrack is honestly the best thing this movie has going for it.

The Princess and the Pilot - 8.5/10. Wow, I liked this a lot more than I thought I would. An anime movie from 2011 telling the story of a pilot escorting a princess to her home during a war. The animation and music were great, the two main characters had believable chemistry, and while I would have liked to see the setting be more explored, the movie knows what it is and doesn't try to bite off more than it can chew. But I found some of the voice acting to be questionable.

Freaks (1932) - 7/10. Fairly decent, and has great cinematography near the end with an incredible sense of tension. Nowadays, this movie would seem pretty ableist, and that's understandable. But for it's time period, I think it's one of the better movies I've seen. Also, good on HBO Max (I think) for removing the text crawl that endorses eugenics.

Jaws - 6.5/10 The movie that put Spielburg on the map, I liked it well enough. But I'd like it a lot better if Quint wasn't such a moron. Dude, you lied to Brody's wife and destroyed the one means of communication they had! He signed his own death warrant right there. Yeah, liked the movie fine, but didn't like Quint. Also, it's easy to tell that the shark is a prop and some of the acting from minor characters isn't great.
