Regrettable starter choice

I remember regretting picking Fennekin for my playthrough of X. By the time I got to lategame, I remember Delphox would get hit down to at least half health or less with every neutral attack, and it had a ton of weaknesses due to its typing, which made it really ineffective in battle. Still love the design though.

I regret picking Tepig in BW. At that time, I've had stop playing pokemon for like a year and a half, but I was missing it. So I give a try to BW(gosh I was disapointed with that game) and I choose Tepig. The little pig look cute with the potential to become something insane. I've never been that disapointed in my life. When I saw him evolve into that aweful thing that is call Emboar. Gosh I was mad, and I put him in my PC as soon as he evolve. Therefore, I doesn't have any other fire type, so I pick him back later.

I regret going with Rowlet in SM. Well actually, its early forms weren't bad because Flying is a really good type for ingame purposes. But later on, Decidueye's awkward stat distribution, comparatively low speed, and most importantly its weakness to Dark meant it was being killed way to often in the late game and was by that point the worst member of my team (and my team in that run had several bad members, it says something when a Pelipper was the shining star of the team). Overall, I later found out that Primarina and Incineroar were much more well suited to the lategame.

I also picked Chikorita the first time I played HGSS and struggled all throughout the Johto region, but I actually don't regret picking that one.

I'm another person who regretted Rowlet. I usually always go for Popplio, but decided to be different for this one playthrough because I loved Rowlet's evolution line and typings... it was fine at first but at some point after it evolved it would just...die. Often without even getting a hit in. From my past experiences with Primarina it can also be a bit slower than what I'm used to, but it still can usually outspeed and even when it can't it can tank so it's fine, but Decidueye... just couldn't. Never doing that again. Maybe someday I'll actually give Litten and Incineroar a shot.

For me, I don't think it's disappointing choices as much as it is disappointing decisions that led to the choices I made. When I was younger, I would always choose the Fire type starter, no matter what, but when I played Platinum, I decided Fire/Fighting as a type combo for starters was (and still is) overrated, so I went with Piplup instead. From then on, I started making my decision on which starter to choose based less on which type I liked the most (Fire) and more on the Pokemon itself and whether or not I liked them. I still did choose the Fire starter in gens 6, 7, and 8, but it was because I liked the Pokemon, not because of their typing.

I chose Treecko in Emerald, but the rest of my team really needed a strong fire or electric type, not another grass one. I found myself extremely weak to certain attacks thanks to that. On the other hand, that Treecko turned out to be female, which is really rare - so I can't say I regret it.
