Revelry in the Dark (a My Hero Academia fanfic)

Chapter 1: Triggered Memories

Revelry...in the dark.....

Those were the words that Fumikage Tokoyami lived by. Exactly what they meant, he had no idea, but they sure as hell sounded threatening. Whatever they meant, they had especially rung true after his bizarre escapades under the influence of the League of Villains.

After his rampage in the city, special measures had to be taken to prevent him from losing control like that again. First, he put a night light in his new dorm room in case he lost control during the night. Next, his teachers had him meet with Hound Dog, the school’s Lifestyle Guidance Counselor, who helped him regain his composure. Most important, they gave him a special emergency button to wear around his wrist. In the vein of Life Alert, its purpose was for times that he lost control in an area without any students or faculty around.

Two weeks have passed since the incident, and Tokoyami seems to have gone back to normal. He has created a new move called Black Ankh, in which Dark Shadow protects him like some sort of armor. His teachers and classmates commend his ability to come back from such a traumatic event.

Aizawa: I’m impressed, Tokoyami. You’ve recovered quite well. Nice to see that you’ve put the past behind you and started focusing on the future.
Tokoyami: Thank you, sensei. My new move isn’t perfect yet, but that will change in time.
Shadow: You tell ‘em, Fumi!

One night, Tokoyami invites Midoriya, Shoji, Iida, and Kirishima over to his dorm for some last-minute studying. Midoriya is still under a temporary suspension for getting into an illegal scuffle with Bakugo, but he figures that a nice night of studying will take his mind off of things.

Kirishima: Do you remember exactly what we have to study, you guys?
Iida: We are to watch an old interview with All Might and analyze one random quote of his. It sounds simple enough.
Izuku: I’m gonna ace this! I know every line of every speech or interview he’s ever given by heart!

Izuku searches for All Might speeches and interviews on YouTube, and clicks one at random. This turns out to be a big mistake...

Interviewer: What’s been the most daring rescue you’ve ever attempted?
AM: Well, my good man, it would have to be the time that Endeavor and I teamed up to save a science experiment.
Interviewer: A science experiment?
AM: Yes! Some no good criminals operated on this poor creature and gave him the intelligence of a human! We’re lucky we saved him before they made him do evil things! In fact, here he is now!
[All Might motions for someone offscreen, who turns out to be UA’s now deceased principal, Nezu]
Shoji: Hey, it’s our old principal!
Izuku: What do you know, even back then he looked adorable!
[Tokoyami remains still. Seeing Nezu triggers a flashback of the moment when his Quirk devoured him with little effort.]
Kirishima: Hey, dude, are you okay?
Tokoyami: [starts sobbing uncontrollably] The pain!!! The memories!!!! They’re all coming back!!!!!
Iida: What is his problem?!?
Shoji: It’s that video! Turn it off!
[Izuku complies and turns his attention to his friend]
Izuku: There, I turned it off. Hey, where did he go?
[Tokoyami is now huddled in the corner]
Tokoyami: Is it....safe to come out?
Iida: We apologize for hurting your feelings, Tokoyami. I promise that we will never show you that video again.
Izuku: Sorry about that. I just clicked a random video without even thinking. How about we watch another one? Preferably, one without any principals in it.
Tokoyami: I would like that very much, Midoriya...
[Now he clicks on a video entitled, “All Might talks about USJ”.]
AM: The children were in danger! Young Iida came to warn me and I was there within seconds! If only the media were there to see me beat those crooked criminals into submission!
Tokoyami: Yes...this is much better....
Iida: Cool, he mentioned my name!

The rest of the night goes as planned, but the others remember to keep Tokoyami in case something else triggers his memories.

Author’s note: The last story had a happy ending. Along comes this story to ruin it! That’s right, Tokoyami may be feeling better physically, but he has started to suffer emotional after-effects of the experience. It may look harmless now, but, just you wait, it gets worse as the story goes on....

Also, from this point on, I will now start giving my chapters names.

Chapter 2: Dreams and Deaths

Dream, dream, dream, dream
Dream, dream, dream, dream

When I want you in my arms
When I want you and all your charms
Whenever I want you
All I have to do is dream
Dream, dream, dream

When I feel blue in the night
And I need you to hold me tight
Whenever I want you
All I have to do is dream

I can make you mine
Taste your lips of wine
Anytime night or day
Only trouble is
Gee whiz
I'm dreamin' my life away

I need you so, that I could die
I love you so and that is why
Whenever I want you
All I have to do is dream
Dream, dream, dream, dream

I can make you mine
Taste your lips of wine
Anytime night or day
Only trouble is
Gee whiz
I'm dreamin' my life away

I need you so, that I could die
I love you so and that is why
Whenever I want you
All I have to do is dream

Dream, dream, dream
Dream, dream, dream, dream
Dream, dream, dream, dream
Dream

- The Everly Brothers, 1958

Tokoyami can’t help but feel that there are dark times ahead. Ever since he saw the old video of Nezu on Midoriya’s computer, he has gotten more distant from his classmates for some reason. Any attempt to get his attention is only met by the same phrase; “Revelry...in the dark”.

Aizawa, Iida, and a few others, are fed up with this, and they confront him about it in class one day, as we are about to see for ourselves.....

Iida: What is your problem, Tokoyami?!? You haven’t said a word in class all week!!!
Tokoyami: Revelry....in the dark....
Todoroki: How many times are you gonna keep saying that?
Bakugo: If he wants to keep being an emo faggot, then we should just fucking let him be!

Tokoyami puts his head down. He begins to dream.....

In his dream, class is going on as normal, until Tokoyami suddenly loses control of his quirk and destroys the classroom! He knocks the teacher out of the window and is in the process of killing everyone else when Todoroki wakes him up.

Tokoyami: Gah!!! Dark Shadow, cut it out!!!!
Aizawa: Calm down, Tokoyami! It was just a dream!
Tokoyami: I-I’m sorry. Please forgive me...
Aizawa: I will when you tell us what’s going on with you!
Tokoyami: Yes, but would it be alright if you and I spoke about this in the hallway? You know, so the rest of the class doesn’t hear?
Aizawa: If that’s how it works for you, then I will gladly honor that request.

In the hallway....

Aizawa: Alright, so, tell me, what’s the problem?
Tokoyami: [looks around to make sure no one else is listening] Over the last few weeks, I have been having visions.
Aizawa: Visions, you say? What sort of visions?
Tokoyami: Visions...of the future...I saw what will happen if I fail to control my Quirk. I destroyed the entire classroom, and killed every one of you! If I don’t get help in time, it will only lead to death and destruction!
Aizawa: Haven’t you been counseling with Hound Dog about this?
Tokoyami: I have. He tells me to clear my mind of all the negative thoughts. But no matter how much I try, it isn’t working! They keep coming back worse than ever!
Aizawa: I’m not a therapist, so you’ll have to take that up with Hound Dog when you see him this afternoon.

Later that day, when Tokoyami is about to leave to go see Hound Dog, All Might stops him in the hallway.

AM: Young Tokoyami, could I see you in the meeting room for a moment?
Tokoyami: What for? I’m on my to see Hound Dog for my therapy sessions.
AM: Don’t worry, he’ll be there too, along with the rest of your teachers.
Tokoyami: I don’t like where this is going. Is there a reason why all of my teachers will be there?
AM: Beacuse something has come up that needs our utmost attention. And it has something to do with your family.

Tokoyami and All Might arrive in the meeting room. Seated at the table are Aizawa, Present Mic, Midnight, Snipe, Ectoplasm, and Thirteen, along with another unexpected face...Tokoyami’s mom!

Tokoyami: Mom, what are you doing here??!!?? And why do you look so sad?
Mom: Fumi, I don’t know how to tell you this....but....your father has been murdered...

At that moment, Tokoyami feels the entire world around him shatter into millions of pieces. Nothing at all could have prepared him for this moment.

Tokoyami: Wha-buh-how-when did this happen????
Aizawa: A few hours ago. Your mother came home from a shopping trip to find his body lying on the floor with burns all over. But since none of the rest of the house had any fire damage, we have reason to believe that this was an attack by villains.
Tokoyami: Buh-buh but why would someone want to hurt my father??? He never hurt anyone in his life!
Mom: That’s not exactly true, son. Don’t forget that he was a Hero himself a long time ago, with the same Quirk as you.
AM: Your father was a great man, Tokoyami. I assisted him on many occasions, and I can’t imagine why anyone would want to kill him.
Aizawa: We will do everything in our power to find out who committed this atrocity.

Tokoyami can’t take it anymore and tries to run out of the room, but Midnight restrains him and makes him fall asleep. And sleep is something he’ll be needing a lot of during these hard times...

Author’s note: PLOT TWIST!!! Bet you didn’t see that one coming! Tokoyami’s already faltering mental state is about to get even worse now that his father is dead. Where will that lead to? You’ll have to keep reading to find out!

The song at the beginning is “All I Have To Do Is Dream”, by The Everly Brothers, one of my favorite songs of all time. I thought it fit well with the title of this chapter.

Chapter 3: Cultural Festival

A day later, Class 1A gathers together to discuss ideas for UA’s upcoming Cultural Festival.

Iida: I, Tenya Iida, Class President of 1A, will be leading this discussion! Those of you with ideas, please raise your hands!
Kaminari: Me first!!!
Yaoyorozu: Alright, what is your idea?
Kaminari: How about a maid cafe?!!???
Mineta: THAT’S TOO TAME!!! HOW ABOUT A TITTY BAR??!!!!!????
[Mineta is escorted out of the room by Tsuyu]
Tsuyu: Let’s get the dead weight out of here...
Iida: Uraraka, you next!
Ochaco: A mochi stand?
Yaoyorozu: Not bad.
Kirishima: Arm wrestling competition?!?
Iida: Intense!
Toru: Bikkiri House!
Iida: I don’t know what that is, but okay!
Sato: Baking competition!
Mina: Dance!!!
Yaoyorozu: Flashy!
Koda: A petting zoo?
Aoyama: My glitter show...
Iida: Huh?
Jiro: I don’t know, some kind of comedy?
Iida: Sure, I guess...

Sometime later...

Yaoyorozu: I believe everyone’s given a suggestion?
Iida: Wait! We haven’t heard from Tokoyami yet! Do you have a suggestion or not?
Tokoyami: [silence]
Bakugo: SAY SOMETHING, BIRD FUCKER!!!!
Iida: Do not listen to him. If you have no suggestions, you do not have to say anything, Tokoyami.

Suddenly, Tokoyami gets out of his seat and makes a random statement...

Tokoyami: Leave me out of these childish games! I have far more important things on my mind at the moment!!!!!

The class is unsure of how to react to this. Before they can ask, he leaves the classroom.

Tokoyami heads to his dorm room and hides under his covers. The death of his father has messed with his mind. One wrong move from anybody else would be enough to make him lose control of his quirk again, which is exactly why he left his classroom before things got too serious.

Dark Shadow: What’s the matter, Fumi?
Tokoyami: You know full well what the problem is, my friend. My mental state was already in danger, but now that my father is gone, I don’t know what to do.
Shadow: Try talking to Midoriya or Shoji. They’re your closest friends.
Tokoyami: But they wouldn’t understand. I’ve never told anyone about my family before, least of all, my classmates.
Shadow: Why don’t you help out with that Festival thing? I’m sure that will get your mind off of your father.
Tokoyami: Hmm, I have no talents, but, if you insist, I suppose I will help.

Aizawa appears at the door, looking very concerned.

Aizawa: [shouts down the hallway] It’s okay, Iida, I’ve found him!
Iida: Explain yourself, Tokoyami!
Tokoyami: I, uh, had another vision...but, I’m fine now.

Eventually, Class 1A agrees to go with a dancing theme for the Festival. They have also convinced Kyoka Jiro to lead the class with her musical abilities. Where does Tokoyami fall in all of this? Let’s see...

Ochaco: Won’t you be singing, Jiro?
Jiro: No, I’m totally not...
Mineta: Lemme sing!!! Singers get all the chicks, you know!!!
Aoyama: I can be the disco ball and sing as well!
Kirishima: I’m terrible at playing instruments, but I have a great voice! Check this out! [singing] SHE’S LUMP, SHE’S LUMP, SHE’S LUMP, SHE’S IN MY HEAD....
Jiro: Wrong genre!
Mineta: [perverted screeching]
Jiro: You’re just screaming.
Aoyama: [falsetto vocals] It’s okay to be gay, let’s rejoice with the boys, in a gay way...
Jiro: Um...I...don’t think we can use that one in the festival, Aoyama.
Toru: I think you should sing, Jiro! When we were all in your room, your singing voice was super duper cool!
Jiro: You’re making this difficult!
Toru: Awwww, just do it.
Kirishima: I wanna hear her sing too! Just a little!

Jiro grabs the mic and launched into her own rendition of an old Neil Young hit (song lyrics not included here cause of copyright!). The audience goes wild!!!

Iida: It’s unanimous! We have our singer!!
Jiro: Great, with that out of the way, we need guitarists. Preferably two!
Kaminari: Me!!! Me!!!
Mineta: Lemme do it!!!!
Kirishima: Ehh, I’d probably break the strings...
Bakugo: Are you really up for this? Are you ready to kill on stage?
Kaminari: Uh huh! I sure am! The guitar is the star of any band!
[They grab their guitars, but Mineta has trouble with the strings]
Mineta: I can’t reach the strings because of my character design!!!
Sato: I guess I’ll be dancing, then.
Ojiro: Me too! I move really gracefully with my tail.
Sero: And I can help set things up with my tape.

Tokoyami picks up Mineta’s discarded guitar and plays a beautiful riff, while everyone else’s jaws drop.

Kirishima: You can play guitar, Tokoyami?!!?? Why didn’t ya speak up?!!!!!!????
Tokoyami: I had to remove myself from the burden of the F-chord. [turns to Mineta] Mineta, if you are not performing, then I’ll strum enough for the two of us.
Mineta: Ugghhh, I can’t wait for this stupid festival to be over...
Mina: Hey, Mineta! I can arrange for there to be a harem as part of our dance!
Mineta: I’m sold!
Iida: Alright, so everyone’s been assigned a role!!!

The Band: Katsuki Bakugo (drummer), Momo Yaoyorozu, Denki Kaminari, Fumikage Tokoyami (guitarists), Kyoka Jiro (vocalist)

Stage Crew: Shoto Todoroki, Hanta Sero, Eijiro Kirishima, Koji Koda

Dance Squad: Mezo Shoji, Mashirao Ojiro, Ochaco Uraraka, Rikido Sato, Toru Hagakure, Minoru Mineta, Yuga Aoyama, Mina Ashido, Tsuyu Asui, Izuku Midoriya, Tenya Iida

Epilogue:

Kaminari: Let’s call the band “The Sparks”!
Tokoyami: “Funeral March.”
Bakugo: “Me.”
Yaoyorozu: Since Class 1A are the ones putting this together, let’s call ourselves “A Band”.
Jiro: Perfect!!!

Author’s note: To spice things up a little, I’ve decided to set things during the lead-up to the UA Cultural Festival. Who knows what kind of shenanigans could happen in my twisted version of events?

Chapter 4: From Bad to Worse

Preparation for the festival continues....

Jiro: The set list’s decided. Now let’s keep practicing so we can kill it onstage!

Midoriya has trouble keeping up with his dance instructions, so they have no choice but to reassign him...

Mina: You’re out! By which I mean, you’ve been reassigned to the stage crew because they need more hands!
Izuku: Buh-wha-why me???? I promised Eri that I’d be dancing onstage!
Mina: Aoyama is gonna cover the whole dance floor, but they don’t exactly have a rig to make that happen, so they want someone strong to do the job.
Aoyama: Oui. I will start out as a dancer, then I will transition to being the disco ball! My new Laser Buffet technique can be controlled over distances, a task tailor made for moi! That would be an ideal time for you to break away from the dancers to assist!
Izuku: So, I’m not going to be dancing for very long?
Kirishima: Sorry, dude! It sucks that you’ve been practicing for nothing, but we could really use the help!
Izuku: Hmmm, as long as I still get to dance for a little bit, it’s not like I can’t keep my promise to Eri...the show must go on, I guess. Fine, I’ll do it!
Aoyama: Merci!
Kirishima: You’re a dude among dudes, dude!

Midoriya might be having things go his way, but with Tokoyami, it’s another story. For several days now, he’s been forced to sit through the bickering of his band mates. One more slip-up would be enough to make him lose control...

The night before the festival...

Bakugo: Stop speeding up the tempo, dumbass! Follow my beat!!!
Kaminari: Maybe I would if you stopped showboating all the time!
Momo: Well, now I’m simply nervous.
Jiro: No weird ad-libbing tomorrow, okay?
Bakugo: Huh????
Jiro: We don’t want anyone getting thrown off.
Kaminari: You’re so harsh!
Bakugo: She’s talking to me, you retard!!!
Kaminari: Take that back right now!
Bakugo: Make me!!!
Momo: I’m sure we can settle this in a non-confrontational manner....
Kaminari: But he compared me to a disabled person!
Bakugo: Cuz it’s what you are!!!
Kaminari: Am not!
Bakugo: Are too!!!
Kaminari: Am NOT!!!
Bakugo: ARE TOO!!!!!!!!
[This goes on for a while until Tokoyami finally gets fed up and lashes out at them]
Tokoyami: [surrounded by darkness] CEASE THE BUFFOONERY THIS INSTANT!!!!!!!!!

This catches everyone’s attention, even the people at the other side of the auditorium! As soon as Tokoyami sees that everyone is staring open-mouthed at him, the darkness surrounding him dissipates and he falls to his knees.

Iida: As class president, it is my duty to say...TOKOYAMI, ARE YOU ALRIGHT??!!???
Tokoyami: What...What happened?
Izuku: You almost lost control again. But you’re fine now.
Tokoyami: Oh my...I’m so sorry for this, everybody. I don’t know what came over-
Hound Dog: [bursts into the auditorium] GRRRARRGGGH!!! WHAT WAS THAT-GRARRGGGHHH-NOISE???!!!??? [spots Tokoyami] Oh, it’s just Tokoyami. Would you please come with me, young man?

Hound Dog leads Tokoyami to the same meeting room as before. Tokoyami already has a good idea of where this is headed.

Aizawa: Tokoyami, we have some good news and bad news about the situation with your father.
Tokoyami: What’s the good news?
Aizawa: The good news is that we found out who did it.
Tokoyami: Who is it?
AM: Well, that’s the bad news. He also attacked your mother.
[Just like clockwork, Tokoyami has the same reaction he had upon learning of his father’s death.]
AM: Don’t worry, she’s not dead. In fact, she gave us a description of the one who did it. Some guy with a patchwork face...
Tokoyami: Dabi....he’s the one....I’LL SLAUGHTER HIM!!!!!!
Snipe: Sorry, cowboy, but you ain’t goin’ anywhere.
Aizawa: Since there’s obviously someone out to get your family, we thought it would be best to keep you here until he’s captured.
AM: You are to remain in your dorm until further notice.
Tokoyami: But I’m supposed to be a guitarist in the Cultural Festival tomorrow!
Aizawa: Then it’ll just have to go on without you.
Present Mic: I’ll fill in for you, guy! I play a mean guitar, ya know!
AM: I’m sorry, young Tokoyami, but it’s for the best...

Meanwhile, a shady character approaches a deserted warehouse on the outskirts of the Tokyo area. One press of a button and he enters the building to meet up with his associates. Who is this man? Why it’s Dabi, of course! He’s returning to the League of Villains’ hideout to report his progress.

Shigaraki: Welcome back, Dabi. Has she been taken care of?
Dabi: I slashed her face pretty good, but she survived. I don’t think she’ll be leaving the hospital anytime soon, though. Oh, and by the way, I got a present for Toga.
Toga: Oooh! I like presents! Whatcha get me?
[Dabi hands her a vial of red liquid...Toga’s favorite thing in the whole world!]
Toga: Yummy!! Fresh blood!
Dabi: Fresh from the victim, just the way you like it!
Toga: Oh, if only it was Midoriya’s blood, then I’d be even happier!
Kurogiri: You think this is all a game, Dabi? We could be in great danger! That woman is going to tell the police who you are, and that’ll lead them straight to us!
Shigaraki: There’s no need to fear, Kurogiri. This is all part of our plan. For, you see, our old friend, Tokoyami, will be here first! I’m sure he has heard about what happened to his mother by now. Our experience with him has undoubtedly messed with his psyche, so it will only take the deaths of his parents to make him lose control once and for all! Even if we did fail to kill his mother, our plan is still moving smoothly! All we have to do now is wait....

Author’s note: Will Tokoyami defy his teacher’s instructions and leave his dorm room? Or will he be a good little boy and stay put? You obviously already know what the answer is, but, in any case, stay tuned!!!!

Chapter 5: Missing in Action

Word of the situation reaches Tokoyami’s classmates. Jiro and Kaminari are upset that their talented guitarist will not be able to perform, while Momo is more concerned that his replacement will blow everyone’s ear drums out.

Little does anyone know, however, that Tokoyami is planning a more drastic action. That night, while everyone is sleeping, Tokoyami sneaks out of the window of his dorm. Using Dark Shadow to camouflage himself, he exits the campus without anybody noticing...

The next morning is the day of the Cultural Festival!!! Let’s take a look and see how everyone is preparing for it....

Mina: Is everybody ready?!?
Bakugo: No! I wouldn’t be caught dead wearing this shitty outfit!
Jiro: We had these t-shirts made special, Bakugo, so you’ll have to wear yours.
Ochaco: Hey, where’s Deku?
Todoroki: Yeah, where is he?
Aoyama: He has gone to buy some rope for our performance.
Todoroki: He sure is taking a long time, though, isn’t he?
Aoyama: Indeed! This is not like him.
Mina: Todoroki!!!! Let’s go over the sequence one last time!
Todoroki: Sorry, but I must go find him!

Midoriya, it turns out, is actually in the middle of a confrontation with a villain calling himself “Gentle”, and his assistant, “La Brava”. Gentle has a Quirk that gives elastic powers to whatever he touches, which he uses on a nearby construction site to keep Midoriya off his back.

Gentle: The plan went slightly awry, La Brava, and should I manage to get inside the campus, despite its heightened security, my name will truly go down in infamy as a man truly capable of great spectacle!
La Brava: This kid’s like you, Gentle. He doesn’t give up! I’d better use...my Quirk......

But before she can, a metal girder comes flying at her, knocking her unconscious!

Gentle: You...monster!!!! Throwing a heavy metal girder at an innocent child??? You’re not a hero at all!
Izuku: But I didn’t throw that!
Voice: Actually, that was me!

The voice is that of Tokoyami, standing triumphantly on top of the construction site. Dark Shadow surrounds him and looks ready to pounce at the criminals.

Izuku: Tokoyami??!?? What are you doing here?!? You’re supposed to be in your room!
Tokoyami: I noticed you were in need of assistance, so I got here as fast as I could! Dark Shadow, get Midoriya out of there!
Shadow: On it!

Dark Shadow slithers over to Midoriya, who is still confused as to why Tokoyami isn’t hiding in his room.

Gentle: These UA students are more powerful than I thought! But I’m not going to let them get away with hurting La Brava!!

Gentle touches one of the supports at the construction site. It suddenly buckles and makes Tokoyami lose his balance. Then he touches Tokoyami on the back, and he flops all over the place, eventually falling off of the girders. Dark Shadow senses this, and rushes to save him. He places his master on the ground next to Midoriya, then goes after Gentle.

Gentle: P-p-please!! Whatever you are, leave me alone!!!
Shadow: Leave you alone? Why don’t you leave my friends alone first?!? Give yourself up!!!
Gentle: Fine! I will! Just promise you’ll put me down!

At that moment, Todoroki arrives with All Might and the police. While Gentle and La Brava are hauled away, All Might interrogates Midoriya.

AM: What were you doing out here, young Midoriya?
Izuku: I was just going to the store to get some rope for the Festival when that guy attacked me out of nowhere!!! He wanted to get into UA and ruin all of the fun!
AM: I see. And just how did Tokoyami get involved in this?
Izuku: He said he heard the commotion from his room and wanted to help out. You’d better take him to Recovery Girl, though. That villain used an elasticity Quirk on him.
AM: We kind of noticed that already...
[Rescue workers try to pick up Tokoyami, but his body keeps flopping all over the place]
AM: We’ll deal with Tokoyami later. But for now, you’d better get back to the Festival. Your little friend is waiting for you!
Izuku: Oh no! Eri’s gonna freak out if I’m not there!!!

Midoriya rushes off to the auditorium, while Todoroki follows behind.

Paramedic: All Might, sir, what should we do with the bird?
AM: Bring him to the principal’s office. We have much to discuss with him...

Author’s note: Uh-oh! Looks like Tokoyami’s gonna be in big trouble! And he still hasn’t even told them the real reason he was out there! Will he be expelled from UA? Or will smarter heads prevail and give him another chance?

Chapter 6: Expulsion?

In the UA meeting room, Tokoyami takes a seat in front of All Might and the rest of the faculty.

All Might: Explain yourself, young man.
Tokoyami: Well...there’s no point in trying to hide it from you anymore. I snuck out last night.
[The teachers gasp]
Aizawa: So, you broke the explicit instructions to stay in your room. What was your intention?
Tokoyami: I wanted to find Dabi and take him down for killing my father and injuring my mother. But I came back when I heard all the commotion with Midoriya and that other villain. I’m...sorry for all the trouble....
Aizawa: You should be. I’m afraid that there are serious consequences for this. The rest of the staff and I have agreed that the only proper course of action to take is the termination of your scholarship at UA.
Tokoyami: But-but-but why?!? How can you do this?
Ectoplasm: We’ve all noticed how unstable you’ve been acting for the past couple of months, and we’ve come to agree that the condition you’re in is not ideal for Hero work.
Midnight: Don’t think that we’re afraid of you, Tokoyami. We all think that your Quirk is one of the strongest we’ve ever seen. But we’re also concerned about the effect it has on the other students. Your outburst in the auditorium the other night reportedly scarred one of the Class 1B students for life.
Tokoyami: That was only an accident! I had no intention of unleashing it! It’s just that I couldn’t hold in my annoyance with my band mates anymore.
Aizawa: Don’t blame this on anyone else. This is all your doing.
Tokoyami: Where am I going to live now? It isn’t safe for me to go back home.
Aizawa: All Might is going to be housing you and your mother until the villains are captured.
AM: Now, wait just a minute!
Present Mic: What is it, All Might?
AM: Are you guys sure this is a good idea? I mean, expelling him is too harsh! And since when did we agree that I would be housing him?
Snipe: You tryin’ to defend this little cowpoke’s actions? He done nearly got himself killed!
Thirteen: And UA can not afford any more bad press about the safety of our students. Therefore, he has to go.
AM: I’m the principal!! I can just overrule your decisions!
Aizawa: Sorry, but the papers have already been signed. Our decision is final....

Later that afternoon, Aizawa returns to class with some good news and bad news.

Aizawa: I’m pleased to announce that our class has won the award for “Best Performance” at the Cultural Festival.
[cheers]
Izuku: We still managed to win even though I was late? Awesome!
Tsuyu: Ribbit. It’s just too bad that Tokoyami had to miss it.
Iida: Speaking of which, where is he? Is he still in the medical office?
Aizawa: I’m afraid that he won’t be coming back today. As a matter of fact, he won’t be coming back to class ever again.
Iida and Izuku: WHAAAAA??????
Aizawa: His reckless actions today have given us no choice but to expel him from UA.
Izuku: That’s not fair!!! He was just trying to save me from Gentle!
Aizawa: I could just as easily have expelled you after the All For One incident, Midoriya. But, as I said before, these are troubling times, and we can’t afford to lose any more students.
Izuku: What made Tokoyami less of a student that made you choose to get rid of him?!? In Class 1A, none of us are the strongest or most important! We’re all equals!
[The class applauds Midoriya’s speech]
Aizawa: I’ll admit that your speech was impressive, but that still doesn’t change my mind. If it makes you feel any better, though, I’ve let him come to say his goodbyes to all of you.

Tokoyami enters the room...for the final time...

Tokoyami: Classmates, it is with a heavy heart that I confirm that what Aizawa-sensei has told you is unfortunately true. My mental state has progresssed to a point where daily Hero work would not be an ideal option for me.
Iida: You’re the most normal person in our class. It won’t be the same without you.
Tokoyami: [sweatdrop] I’m not quite sure how I should take that...
Ochaco: I’ll really miss your little shadow friend!
Dark Shadow: Awww, I’ll miss you too, Uraraka-chan!
[they embrace one last time]
Shoji: Stay strong, man. You’ve been such a good friend to me this past year.
Tokoyami: I certainly won’t ever forget you, Shoji. It’s kind of hard to forget a person who has six arms.
Shoji: Stop, you’re embarrassing me!
[Tokoyami hands Jiro back some of her albums that he borrowed]
Tokoyami: I guess I should give these back to you.
Jiro: Nah, you can keep ‘em. A little something to remember your time at UA. Besides, I have backups of those albums, anyway.
Mineta: Who cares about some stupid albums? Now that Tokoyami’s leaving, I won’t have anyone to give me love advice!!!!
Kirishima: Say what?
Momo: When did that ever happen?
Mineta: [sneaky expression] I have a whole secret life that you know nothing about...
Aoyama: Au revoir, Monsieur Tokoyami!
Tokoyami: Never stop sparkling, Aoyama.
Froppy: I’m going to miss you, ribbit. Thanks for helping me in the entrance exam.
Koda: And thanks for saving my skin at USJ!
Tokoyami: No problem, you two.
Bakugo: [silence]
Tokoyami: Aren’t you going to wish me farewell?
Bakugo: Um, goodbye, I guess. Now leave me the fuck alone.
Tokoyami: Midoriya, I will be forever grateful that you chose me to be to be your partner in the Cavalry Battle. Someday, I will repay you, but until that day comes, promise me...never give up...
Izuku: I...I won’t....

After all his classmates have said their goodbyes, Tokoyami leaves the safety of UA behind...forever.

That night, Tokoyami and his mother settle into their temporary residence with All Might.

AM: Make yourself at home, you two. You’ll be staying in the guest room, Mrs. Tokoyami.
Mother: Please, call me Rika.
Tokoyami: How about me? Where do I sleep?
AM: Oh, you’ll be sleeping in my room.
Tokoyami: [jaw drops] Um...I...
AM: But let me make myself clear. Under no circumstances are you to leave this house unless you receive permission from your mother or myself. Is that understood?
Tokoyami: Yes, sir.
AM: Alright. Now let’s make the most of this situation. [briefly assumes Muscle Form] WHO WANTS SOME POPCORN?!!??? [coughs up blood and returns to normal]
Rika: I do!!!
Tokoyami: Sure, why not.

Later on, Tokoyami enters All Might’s bedroom. His eyes widen at all of the memorabilia from his hero days, such as medals and trophies. There is even a letter from Rudy Giuliani thanking him for helping out with the relief effort after 9/11. Even All Might’s bed, complete with a comforter modeled after his hero uniform, is nothing short of impressive.

Tokoyami: This is quite a room he has here, wouldn’t you agree, Dark Shadow?
Shadow: It certainly is, Fumi, but, I was wondering something.
Tokoyami: What’s that?
Shadow: Why did he have us sleep in here and not on the couch?
Tokoyami: I haven’t a clue. Maybe he wants to be there in case any criminals try to break in?
Shadow: More likely, he wants to make sure that we don’t try to break out!
Tokoyami: Dark Shadow, do you really think I would be stupid enough to try that again? You have to understand that I’m not under UA’s protection anymore. They won’t be around to bail me out if I get in trouble.
Shadow: I guess you’re right. But I’m still not too sure about this.
Tokoyami: Oh, you worry too much, Dark Shadow. I’m sure All Might will explain everything in the morning.

Author’s note: Tokoyami has to live with All Might now? What kind of shenanigans will this lead to? Wait and see!

Chapter 7: The Virus

Tokoyami’s never been much of a morning person, but when he is rudely awoken by All Might’s extremely loud alarm clock shouting, “RISE AND SHINE, SLEEPYHEAD!!! PLUS ULTRA!!!”, you’d better believe that he gets his ass out of bed.

Tokoyami: Geez, talk about a wake up call.
Shadow: That was more like a death threat if you ask me.

In the kitchen, Rika is eating her breakfast while All Might is getting ready to head out the door for work.

Rika: Did you have a nice night, Fumi?
Tokoyami: Not in the slightest. I was only asleep for about twenty minutes before I was rudely awoken by the loudest alarm clock in the world!
AM: My apologies, Tokoyami. I forgot to switch off the voice message. Sorry I can’t stay longer, I’ve got to get to work!
[All Might rushes out the door without so much as a goodbye]
Shadow: Hmm, what do you suppose has got him in such a hurry?
Tokoyami: Whatever it is, it’s probably none of our concern.

-UA-

Izuku: Class won’t ever be the same without Tokoyami here.
Iida: I agree. His absence has created a void that will never be replaced. And my eyes can’t stop looking at that empty space where his desk used to be!
Aizawa: Do any of you know what happened to Yaoyorozu? She’s been in the bathroom for about an hour now.
Jiro: She did say she was feeling a little sick. Probably something in the cafeteria food that didn’t sit well.
Koda: Now that you mention it, I’m kind of feeling a little sick myself.
[Koda runs off to the bathroom]
Kaminari: Yeah, me too!
[Kaminari runs after him]
Aizawa: This is strange. Does anyone else have to use the facilities?
[The remaining students all shake their heads]
Aizawa: Good. Now let’s continue with our lessons.

That night, an alarming report appears on the news:

Reporter: No less than three students at UA High were admitted to a local hospital this afternoon, all suffering from a mysterious ailment. Officials say that the students, who are all members of Class 1A at the school, reported symptoms such as projectile vomiting, uncontrollable diarrhea, and falling into a coma. The cause of this is currently unknown, but health officials are currently sterilizing the entire building so classes can go on as scheduled.

Tokoyami happens to be watching this report, and he doesn’t like what he sees.

Tokoyami: Figures that as soon as I leave UA, something interesting finally happens!
Rika: Don’t be like that, Fumi! You should be glad that you weren’t infected yourself!
Tokoyami: All Might, do you have any idea what this is all about?
AM: I haven’t a clue, but whatever it is, Present Mic got infected as well. We were having a staff meeting, when he suddenly had to excuse himself. He never came back to the meeting...
Tokoyami: That’s horrible!!! Can’t you do something?!??
AM: I wish I could, but I’m not a doctor. We’ll just have to see where this is going for now...

Unfortunately, Aizawa’s class is significantly smaller the next morning. Only Midoriya, Iida, Shoji, Ochaco, Bakugo, Tsuyu, Todoroki, and Kirishima are left.

Aizawa: Only eight of you today, huh? This virus is spreading faster than I thought.
Kirishima: I’m scared, man! What if it gets to me next?!?
Iida: You? What about the rest of us?!? We might have an epidemic on our hands!!!
Aizawa: Settle down, you two. It’s very unlikely that anyone else will be infected. The entire school was sterilized last night. Whatever caused this virus was probably destroyed.
Tsuyu: Ribbit. Will we still be having normal classes today?
Aizawa: Unfortunately not. I’ve been asked by the Health Council to suspend our regular lessons until the rest of the class is back. In the meantime, we’re going to watch this informative documentary about what causes viruses.
[The class groans, except for Iida]
Iida: What? I think this sounds interesting!
Bakugo: Pfft, teacher’s pet.

At the hospital, the infected students’ conditions start to get stranger...

Recovery Girl: Dr. Satsuma, Dr. Onishi! Come in here, quickly!!!
[UA’s new doctor, Naoki Satsuma, and his assistant, Akiro Onishi, rush into the room]
Satsuma: What is it?
RG: This student says that he lost his Quirk!
Satsuma: Say what?
[The student, Kaminari, is lying on a cot in the infirmary]
Satsuma: What happened, young man?
Kaminari: I don’t know!!! There was this annoying fly buzzing around earlier, and I tried to make it go away by shocking it, but nothing happened!!!
RG: So you’re saying that you couldn’t use your electricity?
Kaminari: No! Not a single volt! It feels like I never even had a Quirk in the first place!
Jiro: Doctor!!! I think I lost my Quirk too!!!
Onishi: Master, there’s another one!
Satsuma: Oh, dear god.
Jiro: See? My earphone jacks are gone! I just have a normal ear!
[As if things couldn’t get any worse, the other infected students in the class all start piping up about losing their Quirks]
Sero: I’ve run out of tape!
Ojiro: My tail is missing!
Sato: My sugar intake is very low right now!
Koda: The animals won’t talk to me anymore!
Momo: I can’t create anything!
Mineta: My hair is solid as a rock! Heh heh, solid as a rock....
Mina: I’m not producing any acid!
Toru: I’M VISIBLE!!!!!!!
Satsuma: Are you writing this all down, Onishi?
Onishi: Yes, master.
Satsuma: We must monitor this as closely as possible. We can’t risk any more students getting infected!

Another alarming news report:

Reporter: The case of the UA virus, as the media is now calling it, just keeps getting stranger. Health officials revealed today that each of the students who were infected have also lost their Quirks. It’s not known whether this is just a temporary side effect of the virus or if this is permanent, but, one thing’s for sure, UA officials aren’t taking any more chances. All classes are being suspended for as long as-
[All Might switches off the TV]
AM: This virus is getting worse all the time. By the end of this afternoon, Aizawa’s class only had Midoriya, Shoji, Iida, Uraraka, Todoroki, and Kirishima left.
Tokoyami: Have you found any leads on this virus, All Might?
AM: Just one. We’ve noticed that the effects of this virus have a remarkable similarity to the Quirk of an old hero named Sick Boy.
Tokoyami: Sick Boy? Can’t say that I’ve ever heard of him.
AM: He was active a long time ago, even before I came on the scene. His Quirk was infecting others, and to do this, he shot highly contagious spores out of his nose. The effects of these spores were exactly the same as this virus.
Tokoyami: Even the part about making you lose your Quirk?
AM: No. We’re still not sure where that’s coming from.
Tokoyami: Well, what ever happened to this Hero?
AM: Nobody knows. He just disappeared one night while stopping a drug bust in Akihabara.
Tokoyami: Wherever he is, I just hope that they find him and put a stop to this mess.

-League of Villains’ Hideout-

Kurogiri is talking with a couple of new recruits to the villains’ cause....

Kurogiri: Has that boy been infected so you can take his quirk away yet?
Recruit 1: Not yet, sir. One of our contacts at the school informed me that he was expelled a few days ago.
Shigaraki: What?!!?? You idiots!!! Why didn’t you tell us that before we sent you there?
Recruit 1: Don’t get too upset! I’ve also found out where the boy is currently located.
Kurogiri: Oh, really?
Recruit 1: Yes! It turns out that he is living at the house of none other than All Might himself! It’s in Shibuya, right across from the NHK building.
Shigaraki: Hmmm, things just got interesting. And you’re sure this is the right place?
Recruit 1: My informant would never lie to me, sir!
Recruit 2: No, he would not.
Recruit 1: Unfortunately, it’s not going to be so easy to get him. The boy is only allowed to leave the house if he’s with his guardians or if he gets permission from one of them.
Shigaraki: Then you’ll just have to wait for a time when he’s allowed to go outside! And that’s when you will strike!!! Is that understood!
Recruit 1: Loud and clear, boss!
Shigaraki: Excellent. You are dismissed.
Recruit 1: You know what to do when we meet him, right?
Recruit 2: Yes, master.

Author’s note: Now things get a little more complicated. Who is this mysterious new recruit? What is his purpose for infecting Tokoyami’s classmates? How did he take their Quirks away from them? And, more importantly, what will the remaining Class 1A students do to stop this? Only I know, and I’m certainly not telling you!!!

By the way, try and see if you can spot all the random Digimon references in this story. It’s all part of a lead up to my next fanfiction.

Chapter 8: Whodunit?

The remaining six students in Aizawa’s class convene at a local arcade to discuss the virus...

Izuku: This virus is getting way out of hand! Now there’s only six of us left!
Ochaco: Well, what are we gonna do, Deku?
Izuku: I dunno, but I want to find out who’s responsible for it, first.
Kirishima: Any ideas?
Iida: I think it’s that doctor!
Todoroki: That Satsuma guy? Why him?
Iida: Does anyone else find it at all suspicious that he was the first one to discover each of the victims after they fell into a coma? There’s obviously something fishy going on here!
Izuku: It’s probably just a coincidence.
Iida: Coincidence?!!!???? Our classmates are getting weaker because of this man!!! And you think this is just a COINCIDENCE?!!!??? I oughta smack some sense into-
[Shoji covers Iida’s mouth with one of his tentacles]
Shoji: Easy there, Iida. Don’t get all worked up. You wanna know what I think we should do?
Todoroki: No, what?
Shoji: We need Tokoyami’s help.
Iida: How do we do that? He’s not our classmate anymore. Besides, we don’t even know where he lives.
Izuku: I think Shoji’s onto something here. I’ve been communicating with Tokoyami, and he told me that his mom only lets him out of the house with her permission. If we ask her to let him come with us, then she’s more likely to say yes. Plus, All Might will be there and we could probably use his help too.
Ochaco: That’s a great idea, Deku! Let’s go see if it works!
Iida: [sighs] Why doesn’t anyone ever listen to me?

Meanwhile, Tokoyami is out on a walk by himself (with his mom’s permission of course). He strolls into Yoyogi Park and takes a seat on a bench. That’s when a suspicious looking hooded man dressed all in black approaches and sits down next to him.

Man: Hello there, young man. I take it you’re Fumikage Tokoyami, correct?
Tokoyami: Um, yes, that’s me...
Shadow: Stay on your guard, Fumi. This guy looks like trouble.
Man: Do not be afraid. I am only here to help you.
Tokoyami: What exactly do you want?
Man: I heard all about your expulsion from UA. It’s such a shame, too. You had so much potential there.
Tokoyami: It was necessary for my mental health. You see, my father was killed by villains a few weeks ago and my mind has not been the same since then. I guess they were afraid that I would lose my temper and attack the school.
Man: I understand. It sounds to me like they expelled you because they’re scared of your power.
Tokoyami: What...what are you saying?
Man: You were the most powerful person in that entire school. I’ve seen the destruction your Quirk has caused and....wait!
Tokoyami: What?
Man: I just realized what’s going on; they’re jealous of your power!
Tokoyami: Jealous?!? That’s ridiculous.
Man: It might be to you, but it’s the truth. Think about it; what did you do immediately before your expulsion?
Tokoyami: I snuck out of the building when I wasn’t supposed to.
Man: No, after that.
Tokoyami: [sudden realization] Of course!!!! I saved Midoriya from that bad guy all by myself!!!
Man: Now do you understand? The faculty of UA were starting to get upset that you have more power than all of them combined! That’s why they had to get rid of you!
Tokoyami: They betrayed me...they all betrayed me....but now....[sudden rage] I WILL GET MY REVENGE ON THEM!!!!!
Man: [giddy] Ah, yes! Now that’s what I like to hear!!! So, will you join me?
Tokoyami: Yes. Together we will crush UA and make this world our own!!!
[The two mutually shake hands]

-Tokoyami’s House-

Izuku: What do you mean he’s not home?!?
Rika: He went out for a walk about thirty minutes ago. He said he was going to Yoyogi Park, which isn’t that far away, but he should have been back by now.
AM: What are you kids doing here, anyway?
Izuku: We wanted to ask Tokoyami to help us find who’s been taking everyone’s Quirks. Since he’s not here, though, I guess we should ask you.
AM: Oh, I’ll help you, alright. There’s no way I’m letting you kids go out there by yourself while this situation is going on.

Our heroes head off to look for the cause of the virus, with All Might in tow.

Author’s note: Things have suddenly taken a turn for the worse. Only four students are uninfected!!! Iida suspects there is a traitor in their midst!!! And worst of all, Tokoyami has turned evil!!! How will this all be solved? Wait for the next chapter to find out!!!

NOTE: I am putting this story on temporary hiatus. Although I started it many months ago, the current coronavirus situation is making me weary in continuing.

Chapter 9: Secrets Revealed

All Might and the remaining Class 1A students search Yoyogi Park for any signs of Tokoyami.

Kirishima: We’ve searched every square mile of this damn park, and we haven’t uncovered a thing! Where is he?!!??
Izuku: Settle down, Kirishima. You’re starting to sound like Kacchan!

All Might walks over to them, accompanied by another man.

AM: Everyone, come here! This man says he saw Tokoyami earlier!
Ochaco: Really? Where did you see him?
Man: I was feeding the birds about an hour ago, when I saw your friend walk away with somebody in a dark hood.
Shoji: A dark hood? Do we know anyone like that?
Izuku: Shigaraki...That’s the disguise he used when he was talking to me at the mall that one time.
Kirishima: Well, if it is Shigaraki, then we’ve got to find him! Who knows what he’s going to do?
Iida: That’s all well and good, but we’ve gotta help our classmates, too!! Is nobody else bothered by the fact that Dr. Satsuma was near each of the students when they were infected?
AM: What is he blabbering about?
Izuku: He thinks that the new doctor at UA is somehow involved with infecting everyone. Do you know anything, sir?
AM: I was telling this to Tokoyami last night, but it wouldn’t hurt to let you in on it as well. The other teachers and I have noticed some striking similarities between the effects of this virus, and the Quirk of an old Hero named Sick Boy.
Izuku: Sick Boy? Can’t say I’ve ever heard of him.
AM: Yes, that’s just what Tokoyami said.
Ochaco: Do you think that maybe somebody stole his Quirk and is using it to infect everyone?
AM: That’s a possibility, but the only person I know who can take away Quirks is Eraserhead. Even then, it’s only temporary, and he can’t use them for himself. But whatever the case is, I think we should pay Satsuma a visit and see what his opinions are on the matter.

Later, at Satsuma’s office.....

Satsuma: Well, hello there! It’s not that often I get a visit from the most famous Hero of all time!
AM: Save the formalities, Doctor. We’re here to ask you some questions.
Satsuma: Sure, I’m happy to answer any questions you have. Come into my room and we’ll talk.
AM: [whispers to his students] Kids, search the place to see if you can find anything important. I’ll be out in a few minutes. [closes door]
Kirishima: Okay, dude!
Shoji: There’s some papers on that desk over there. Let’s check those out.
Iida: [picks them up] Hmm, this info is extremely unusual.
Izuku: What info? I don’t see anything.
Iida: That’s the idea! These papers are all blank!!!
Ochaco: But why would such a respected doctor have nothing but blank papers in his office?
Iida: Don’t you get it?!?? This guy’s not a real doctor!!!

Satsuma: All I want you to know is that I’m doing the best I can to try and solve the mystery of this virus.
AM: I would hope so, because one of my students seems to think that you’re the cause of all this.
Satsuma: No, that’s ridiculous! Why would someone ever get an idea like that?

A fly starts buzzing around Satsuma’s face. Then, he does something that All Might never would have expected. His tongue suddenly shoots out of his mouth and swallows the fly!

AM: [horrified] Ummmm....what was that??!!!???
Satsuma: I don’t know what you’re talking about!
AM: [grabs him by the neck] Don’t play dumb with me! Why did your tongue just do that? It looks a lot like the Quirk of one of my students!
[the students break into the room]
Izuku: All Might, look at...um, why are you holding Doctor Satsuma like that?
AM: This man is in deep trouble! He’s the one who’s been taking everyone’s Quirks!
Satsuma: Please, you’ve got it all wrong!
Iida: Ha! I knew he was behind this!!!
Izuku: We found something, too. Take a look at some of his medical records!
AM: Well, I’ll be dammed! These are all blank!!! You’ve got a lot of explaining to do, Satsuma.
Satsuma: [turns sinister] I guess the jig is up, All Might. Your class is so clever, but I wasn’t expecting anything less from the famous Class 1A.
Izuku: Enough with the flattery! Tell us who you really are and why you’re doing this!!
Satsuma: When I was a child, I was bullied by the other students in my class for not having a Quirk like they did. It drove me insane! Then, one day, I accidentally bumped into someone in the hallway, and my hand came into contact with his body. I soon learned that, when I touched him, I had inherited his Quirk! So, from then on, whenever somebody wronged me in any way, all I had to do was touch them and they wouldn’t be a threat to me anymore. It was around that point that everyone started to call me “The Quirk-Taker”!
Izuku: [to himself] Just like All for One…
Satsuma: I started out with smaller Heroes with weaker powers, before working my way up to the top. I was never very satisfied, though, because there was hardly ever a situation where I would need to use any of the Quirks I’d inherited. All that changed, however, when the League of Villains approached me to ask for my assistance in their latest scheme!
Izuku: So it was them who put you up to this? I should have known!
Satsuma: Yes, they wanted me to infect the students of UA so they can take over the facility for their new headquarters! So, I posed as a doctor to gain the trust of the faculty, and then, when they least expected it, I started to infect everyone! I must admit, I did a great job of fooling the whole staff. Nobody even bothered to check if I was a credible doctor or not!
Todoroki: Well, you haven’t won yet! There’s six of us, and only one of you!
Satsuma: Have you forgotten? I have the Quirks of Sick Boy, and all of your classmates! A deadly combination, wouldn’t you say?
[Satsuma inhales deeply and prepares to use the Virus Quirk]
Izuku: Come on, let’s get out of here!!!

Our heroes run out of Satsuma’s office and down the streets, as his office explodes with a giant blast of snot.

Izuku: We’d better split up! Kirishima and Shoji will head north, Iida and Uraraka head south, and All Might and Todoroki will head east with me! We have to distract him and beat him at his own game!
Kirishima: Well, we’d better hurry, ‘cause he’s gonna be here any minute!

The students split up and go their separate ways, hoping that they can throw Satsuma off track...

Author’s note: Well, it’s certainly been a while since I last updated this story. I decided that enough time has passed for me to continue despite current events making it somewhat difficult to write a story about a virus.

Chapter 10: Tokoyami’s Past

Our heroes are still trying to get away from Satsuma and his Quirk-Taking abilities. Deku, Todoroki, and All Might rush through Yoyogi Park, entertaining several young children as they pass.

Boy: Look, Mommy, it’s the UA students!
Mom: That’s nice, dear. [she goes back to reading her copy of Is My Son Insane?]

Satsuma follows after them, hopping like a frog and shooting tape from his wrists.

Boy: Um, Mommy, can I see that book of yours?

Todoroki: This guy just doesn’t give up! I feel like my ice powers are melting!
AM: All this running is making me weaker. Are you sure this is a good idea, Midoriya?
Izuku: I’m sure of it! Splitting us up into groups will throw him off track. He won’t know which of us to follow, and that might help us get away faster!
AM: You may have a point. I’ll take us back to my house and contact the others from there.

Meanwhile, Shoji and Kirishima are still on the run…

Kirishima: My legs are killing me.
Shoji: Just keep running! We’re almost to the Meiji Shrine!
[Kirishima gets a call on his phone]
Kirishima: Hello? Oh, okay! We’ll meet up with you guys there!
Shoji: Who is it?
Kirishima: Deku wants us to meet up at All Might’s house! It’s not too far from here.

Uraraka and Iida speed down the streets of Shibuya. They also just received a call from Deku telling them to go to All Might’s place.

Iida: We have to hurry and beat that fake doctor there! He’s going to pay for hurting our classmates!

Suddenly, he screeches to a stop. There, standing right it front of him, is Dr. Satsuma, giving them a sinister grin.

Satsuma: I’m not going to be doing anything. Soon, I’ll have all of Class 1A’s quirks, and nobody will be able to stop me!
Ochaco: Not if we have anything to say about it! Why don’t we take you for a little ride?

She uses her gravity powers to levitate herself and Iida into the air, and they both fly away towards All Might and the others.

Satsuma: Go ahead and run, filthy students. You are only prolonging the inevitable…

Later, at All Might’s place, the gang have all gathered back together. At dinner that evening, they tell Tokoyami’s mother about everything they had seen at the doctor’s office.

Rika: Thank goodness you’re all safe. Did you at least find out any more information about what happened to my son?
Kirishima: You know, we got so caught up in the excitement, we forgot all about him. Sorry, lady.
Rika: Oh, that’s alright. I just hope he’s not getting himself into too much trouble.
Ochaco: Hey, where did Deku go?
Iida: Probably fanboying over all of All Might’s Hero memorabilia. He is such a nerd!
Rika: Oh, there he is. He’s looking at one of my pictures in the living room.
Izuku: Hey, Mrs. Tokoyami, who’s that guy with you in this picture?
[He is pointing at an old photo of Rika. Standing next to her is a handsome-looking man with an eagle-like head. They are both wearing fancy clothes, and a crowd of happy people surrounds them.]
Rika: [sadly] That was my husband and I on our wedding day. I keep it there to remind me of everything I’ve lost in the last few months.
Shoji: Oh, that’s right. I forgot that Tokoyami’s father got killed recently.
Ochaco: No wonder he was acting so moody before he left school. It must have really devastated his mind.
Rika: [holds back tears] Kohei was a wonderful person, and a great father. He was always there to make our little Fumi happy…
Todoroki: Was he a Pro Hero too?
AM: His Hero name was “The Mighty Eagle”. I served alongside him on several occasions, such as the Detroit Smash Debacle, but the less said about that day, the better.
Izuku: I’ve got a figure of Eagle, but I never connected him with Tokoyami until now. In fact, I don’t think he ever brought up his father in class. Why is that?
Rika: It’s actually a very sad story. You see, he was starting to rise up in the Pro Hero field, getting more and more notice with each battle he fought. Then, one day, he was severely injured in a battle with a new villain nobody had ever seen before. He lost the use of his legs, and, for some strange reason, his Quirk was gone too.
AM: We later found out that this was the work of All for One.
Shoji: So, what happened to Eagle? I can’t imagine he ever fought again after that.
Rika: Sadly, no. He remained in a wheelchair for several months, and, without his Quirk, he was forced to retire from his Pro Hero duties. He finally recovered in time to see the birth of his son, and was ecstatic to discover that he had a similar Quirk to the one that he had lost.
Iida: But that still doesn’t explain why Tokoyami never wanted to mention he was related to a Pro Hero. Most people are glad to tell you about which Heroes they’re related to! Hell, my brother is Ingenium!
Rika: Well…

We flash back to when Tokoyami was a little boy, about six years of age.

Tokoyami: Mommy, how come Daddy never saves me? I thought he was supposed to be a Hero!
Rika: Well, yes, he is, but-
Tokoyami: Then why didn’t he help me out when Cousin Shinji told me to climb that tree, and I was too scared to come down? Why didn’t he save Grandpa’s money from getting taken away? My Daddy is useless, and I want a different one!
Rika: Fumi, dear, listen to Mommy. Your father loves you very much. Unfortunately, he lost his Hero abilities right before you were born. I’m sorry, but that’s just how it is.
Tokoyami: I…I…
Kohei: What’s going on in here?
Rika: Fumi’s just a bit upset because he thinks you’re “useless”.
Kohei: Useless, eh? Listen to me, son. Just because Daddy doesn’t have his powers anymore doesn’t mean I’m not special. I’ll always be there for you when you need me, Fumi. [he gives his son a hug]

Ochaco: Wow, that’s such a sad story. I never realized what a rough childhood he had.
Rika: Now do you kids see why he’s so emotional? We have to find him before his feelings get out of control!
AM: What do you mean by “we”?
Rika: I’m coming with you.
Iida: You can’t be serious! What if those Villains try to hurt you?
Rika: That’s a risk I’m willing to take!
AM: Alright, then it’s settled. Tomorrow, we all go out and look for Tokoyami. And I think I know who can help us…

Author’s note: I finally decided to dust off this old story now that enough time has passed since the pandemic started. We’re getting closer to the climax, folks.
