February: Offer 100+ words of feedback on an author's description and claim 2 extra bonus points.

Here at the Writers Workshop, we believe that reviews are vital to motivating authors and fostering a fun, constructive community in which people want to share their ideas. However, we also understand how the reviewing process can be time consuming and distract from other priorities in life, writing-related or otherwise.

So, to reward those who put in the effort to review the work of others, we're introducing the Review League!

In short, reviewers can start accumulating points for the reviews they post. The amount of points earned for each review will reflect a variety of aspects, including the length of a review, how many chapters were covered in a review, et cetera. Reviewers may save and cash in their points for prizes, which will be outlined below along with details about the point system. This will be an ongoing event, meaning that points will never be reset and no deadlines will exist. The only deadline is that, on the first of each month, a moderator will post a new genre for readers to review for bonus points.

Sounds cool, right? Let's get into the nitty gritty details now.

RWh3snU.png

1.) Review any story posted in the Writers Workshop. If you comment on multiple chapters in one review, it's recommended that you point out in the review exactly which chapters you comment on.

2.) Post the link to your review in this thread. You don't have to post immediately. You can post up to four reviews at any one time.

3.) Based on the guidelines below, calculate how many points you've earned with your review(s). It helps to say what criteria earned you the amount of points you calculated, but it's not required.

  • Every review automatically nets you 2 points.
  • For every chapter commented on in your review, you receive 1 extra point.
  • For every 250 words put into a review, you receive 1 extra point. If an author replies to your review and you continue to post and discuss their fic with them, you can add the discussion posts toward your word count. You would not get base points or any other additional points for replies, just word count points.
  • For reviews commenting on the current Fic of the Month (when applicable), you will receive 2 extra points.
  • For reviews commenting on any fic written by the current Author of the Month (when applicable), you will receive 2 extra points.
  • For reviews done for the review game, you will receive 6 extra points.
  • For reviews commenting on an uncommon genre (ie., crossovers and non-Pokémon fics), you will receive 3 extra points.
  • For reviews commenting on a fic in the Workshop Archive, you will receive 2 extra points per review.
  • For speedy reviews done within 48 hours of a fic being released or updated, you will receive 2 extra points. Reviews need not pertain to the latest update.
  • For speedy reviews done within 24 hours of a fic being released or updated, you will receive 4 extra points. Reviews need not pertain to the latest update.
  • Speedy reviews may also be claimed for review game reviews made within 24 or 48 hours, even if the chapter requested is older than that. When claiming a speedy review through the review game, please specify so!
  • For reviews done as part of the monthly bonus challenge, you will receive 2 extra points.
Please note:

  • You are by no means obligated to link your reviews for points if you don't want to, nor are you obligated to review to participate in the Writers Workshop.
  • Quoted sections taken from fics do not qualify toward word count points.
  • Contractions count as one word, not two.
  • General reviews commenting on a few chapters without specific comments on individual chapters will still only receive one point, as well as general reviews commenting on the fic as a whole. Extra points still apply to these forms of reviews.
  • Any review which breaks the forum's flaming and baiting rules will not count toward points.
  • Point amounts are subject to change.

4.) Rinse and repeat. Keep an eye on the point scoreboard at the bottom of this post to check how many points you have, and when you're ready, cash them in for some fantastic prizes!

5.) To cash in your prizes, simply make a post here saying which prize you'd like. Please add as much detail as possible about what you're requesting, especially if it's an art prize. While we understand you might not want to spoil your readers, we need something to go on so that an artist looking at your request can easily tell it's a request they're interested in and capable of doing. Also note that we don't allow requesting specific artists unless you're willing to wait a longer period of time if they're busy and/or handling another request.

Below is a list of prizes you can choose to save up for. We hope that these prizes will inspire reviewers and authors alike when it comes to giving back to the community. If there is a prize idea you'd like to bring up, feel free to message the moderators privately to discuss it. You may choose the same prize as many times as you want, and again, you can accumulate points for as long as you need to because they'll never be reset!

I've got a second one ready to go.

The Long Walk, Chapters 25, 26 and 27. 7 points

Looks good! I calculated 8 points, though.

just for reviewing = 2points
1 for each chapter = 3points
every 250 words is 1 point, and you have a little above 750 without the opening "here i am" comment = 3points

Updated the scoreboard with 8!

Bulk post, such fun!

Multiple Dimensionality - 7 points (Monthly Challenge, Judging, 250 words, base points)
The Detriment - 8 points (Monthly Challenge, Judging, 500 words, base points)
AGAPE - 8 points (Monthly Challenge, Judging, 500 words, base points)
PMD: TFI - 9 points (Monthly Challenge, Judging, 750 words, base points)

@Flaze Looks good. You only put "1 point" under The Deprogramming, and when I looked, I'm assuming it's because the review focuses on chapter 3. If I'm wrong, let me know.

Also, for {valence}, you get the 3 points for it being an uncommon genre but not the 1 point for a chapter. It's a one-shot, and there are no chapters, so it can't apply, if that makes sense. Sorry for that confusion!

The first looks good, though the second was posted before the League had even started. If you want to edit your review and expand on it or whatnot, go ahead and I can give you those points.

Please note: The thread is from 2 years ago.
Please take the age of this thread into consideration in writing your reply. Depending on what exactly you wanted to say, you may want to consider if it would be better to post a new thread instead.
