I'm leaning even more to "fake" on the alleged starter evos.

I see no way at all Smugleaf's alleged final form is western influenced and am doubtful Pokabu's alleged evo is Chinese influenced (granted, I know nothing on China's mythology, but it still doesn't look like it would fit the part). I could buy Smugleaf being chinese easily, but that isn't what the article says.

Crown, royal robe, Fleur-de-lis. Looks like a European Monarch.

We should keep in mind that 'western' also doesn't always mean America

Mijimaru - Japanese-style seashell samurai armor.
Pokabu - Chinese demon-pig.
Smugleaf - European royalty.

Hehe, "Chinese demon-pig," XD. While I can't say why, the design does seem to hint at Chinese influences.

It's mostly a design aesthetic. I think it's the big waistband.

Hmm, I agree, I'm having more fun talking about the twitter updates than the Starter Evolutions.

So here's a question...which ones do you guys like (pictures or just descriptions) and which ones do you don't like. It's a little early to judge obviously, but I'm interested in everyone's thoughts so far. I'm kind of lukewarm, but that's mainly because, without pictures, they don't sound exciting in and of themselves going by simple descriptions, even though they may have nice designs. But so far I like the sound of the Fighting Arm Line, the Judo Pokemon, UMadpole (and his apparent Mafioso evolution), the centipede, and the second sheep.

Some of my favourites that were not officially revealed:
- The plank/girder wielding Pokemon line. Lots of potential and cool factor
- Cotton plant Pokemon. Cotton is a unique plant that is confused with an animal, and even the Pokemon draws that idea
- Leaf bug line Pokemon (we seen Kurumiru, but still...). We have another Pokemon with the shape of real life objects (like Voltorb and Electrode)
- Judo Pokemon! Sounds like he will be a funny one.
- Yanappu and brothers. Three monkeys with an evolution each, and they're monkeys.
- Grass lady Pokemon (as in the one that is seen in daycare's evolution) sounds nice too.

@Zeta: Cool set of images. I also think it's not only the waistband but the curvy line designs on it. They look like a classical Chinese art trope. That and the color of the monster itself; orange and black. Hmmm...

here guys, someone made it cool :D

spoilers__bring_it_on_by_super_tuler-d2ydlsx.png

I can confirm you this, Gear does not evolve twice!

Gear does however have to different evos, that evo depending on it's ability.
This is also the reason why Hiro said the evos look very similar to each other.

Went to search a few posts a few pages back to find things to respond to. That Mijumaru evolution by that fan is really awesome, because his or her vision of the evolution standing looks super cool! Gear evolving based on ability is really a new evolution method. First we had gender-based evolution, and now an ability-based evolution. Also cool.

The thing I don't like about Tsutarja's 'rumored' final evo is the coloring. They made it look pale in the face. But if it is based of 'western royalty', many had pale skin as a sign of wealth. 'I don't have to be in the sun, I'm Royalty!' I really really hope it isn't pure grass, pure grass is one of the worst typings. I hope it's paired up... with anything.

From what I understand, according to the rumors, they are:
Tsutarja's: Pure Grass
Mijumaru's: Pure Water
Pokabu's: Fire/Fighting

The first 56 Pokémon (excluding Victini) not having any new type combinations is pretty bad if true. There are only five new combinations that have been confirmed, with five more that are currently rumored. Of those, only five combinations are associated with "ordinary" Pokémon (not legendary or pseudo-legendary): Ground/Dark, Normal/Grass and supposedly Ghost/Fire, Ghost/Water and Dark/Steel (although the latter could be another pseudo-legendary).

For comparison's sake, Generation II introduced 23 new combinations (including combinations with Dark and Steel, as well as pure Rock and Ghost), Generation III went down to 19 (including pure Ice and Steel), and Generation IV settled for a mere 13. Without legendaries and pseudo-legendaries, the above numbers become 22, 17 and 10.

Then it shouldn't be that surprising since it seems to obviously be following a trend of less new type combos each generation.

If you ask me, you can include Gen 1 in that too, provided the type combo is rare enough or hasn't shown up since then (excluding Gen 5 for now).

Fire/Flying - Before Ho-oh came along, all you had were 2 Pokemon with this combo, Charizard and Moltres

Electric/Flying - Zapdos still holds this unique combination to this very day. Thankfully Emonga will change that.

Ice/Flying - Articuno. Aside from Delibird in Gen 2, it was the only one with that combination during RBY.

Psychic/Ice - Jynx (and then later on Smoochum). Haven't seen this combination since yet.

Water/Fighting - Pretty impressive how Poliwrath is the only one who holds such a combination, no? Mijumaru, don't let me down!

Poison/Flying - Only 2, and now 3, Pokemon had this at the beginning. Zubat and Golbat. I'm amazed we haven't seen more of it.

Poison/Ground - A combo shared by both the Nidos and only by them.

Grass/Bug - You can't really count this anymore with the appearence of Wormadam and now Kirumiru, but it Paras and Parasect held the exclusivity for a long time.

Water/Poison - The 2 Pokemon with this combination were Tentacool and Tentacruel, only shown up by one extra newcomer in Qwilfish.

Rock/Flying - Another combination never seen again to till very day. Held by Aerodactyl.

Grass/Psychic - An interesting combo which again had only two occupants in Gen 1, Exeggcute and Exeggutor, only to be joined by one more in Gen 2 (Celebi). Seeing a pattern yet?

The rest had 3 or more Pokemon established with those type combinations in the beginning and have seen many more come to join their ranks, like Dragon/Flying or Water/Ice or Water/Rock.
