We do have the Eagle, an legendary to represent the deers and Jörmungandr (the snake). We are missing, between the important mythological creatures, Níðhöggr (the Dragon), Ratatöskr (the Squirrel), something based on some of the 6 Wolves, Draugr (the undead creature) and Hafgufa (the sea monster).

They would be cool :)

Edit: sorry wrong snake name :p

I want these so bad!

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but does Zygarde's typing intrigue anyone else? His Dragon-typing doesn't touch Xerneas and his Ground-typing doesn't hurt Yveltal.

I doubt it.
If this trio really are based on the inhabitants of Yggdrasil, which I am not very convinced on, then it would only be those three. GF doesn't always get keep track of every detail. I doubt there will be a squirrel and dragon Pokemon to represent the last ones. And I doubt an ice wolf too.
I'm not saying all of them. 2 to 4 is realistic. Also the Dragon and the Eagle were kind allies so it would fit the Dark theme for both. Also the Squirrel lived in the same place as the Deers, going up and down the tree.
If i were to guess, i would say the Dragon, The Squirrel, the Sea Monter and/or a Wolves Trio. Or even any combination of them.
GF actually added Pokemon related to the myths only so i can't see why not. (The only i could fit in was helioptile)

If they are basing the legends on Nordic mythos, then by all means an ice wolf is needed. Fenrir, anyone?

His sons, specifically Haiti, would suit that role better. Example: Ice/Dark or Dark/Ice.

Well, this is also a good idea. Anything as long as we get an ice wolf with a mythological background. Come to think of it, a region based on Greece with Greek legends and/ or a region based on Scandinavia with Nordic legends would be amazing. Odin, Loki, Thor, Valkyries, Hel, Zeus, Athena, Artemis, Apollo, the fates, which would make an amazing trio..etc

You know what I find funny?

If these guys really were based on Norse legends, I would have said Zygarde IS the dragon Nidhoggr and not the snake. Nidhoggr lives underground eating the roots of Yggdrasil, which personally I think is much more fitting of Zygarde, especially when you consider its typing.

I probably should just write a blog about my collective thoughts on this matter.

the serpent of the world is zygarde. It symbolizes balance in nature and Nidhoggr represent the Chaos. You can't compare them.

Yeah, whereas The Deer are hell bent are eating away at the world tree and that The Eagle does absolutely nothing but sits on a branch and watches the world turn. How exactly does that perfectly represent life and destruction respectively?

I've read a lot on Norse mythology. If Norse mythology was the reference source, I find it more likely that GF just looked at these animals and said "Hey let's use those guys" without even bothering to look up more into them.

Did someone already point that it's impossible for Zygarde's to have a 680 base stat? (and VERY hard for it to hit 660 like Kyurem). I made some calculations.

In a screenshot, Zygarde looked like it was just caught (zero EV), at level 70 (from the Exp. points), and with a neutral nature (no stat marked with pale red or blue). And a spread of 236/152/196/140/148/159

Now, let's assume the little chance this Zygarde has all its IV in zero. The base spread would be 112/105/137/97/102/110. That's a total of 663.
Assuming a full 31 EV, the base spread is now 96/90/121/81/87/95. That sums 570.

So, Zygarde's base stat total is somewhere between 570 and 660. My first guess is a total of 600 and a spread of 100/90/130/90/90/100.

What if it's not the "third" for Xerneas and Yveltal?

Really, for me the badge and the place to put it don't look like each other.

I do Agree they haven't cared about their info alot but they are related to the myths. The Stags are resposible for the seasons and it could be seen as part of the cicle of life. The Eagle had something to do with transporting deceived warriors watching the Valkirias. Not accurate but good enought i'd say.

Something that intrigues me is that some of the hexagons and half of zygarde's face are white.

There must be a reason.

Here are the names, pictures, types, and National Dex numbers of all Gen VI pokemon up to Zygarde, as well as all Mega Evolutions revealed thus far.
NOTE: Vivillon has at least four aesthetic forms.

Then there is no reason to not believe that Zygarde may not be more closely based on Nidhoggr. Because as you just said "Not accurate, but good enough I say."

Honestly, the only thing that does perfectly symbolize balance is Yggdrasil itself, but I don't think anyone here sane enough is willing to believe Treverent is based on that.

I agree with Isamu, it's pretty evident that if these legendaries are based on Norse Mythology they're making a loose representation of them, Zygarde can easily be Nighoggr.

I think this Trio only borrows physical design and living environment from the Norse inhabitants of the world tree.

As long as we get more Pokémon down the line and they all have badass and/or cute designs, I'm fine with whatever origins they have.

I know this was so long ago, but Goodra's sap sipper ability is probably more to give it that attack boost switching in to grass attacks than to give it a grass immunity. Putting it on a rain team, if you know the opponent is going to try to hit you with a grass move, switch in to goodra, get the attack boost and take it out.
