In the beginning of this episode Rotom talks about season 2 episode 6 of Alolan Detective Laki being about a mermaid. Could this be a reference to the season 2 episode 6 episode of Pokémon “The Misty Mermaid”?

So that last scene being in England-like place, I get that feeling that might have been intentional, since the concept for the new region was probably known long enough ago for production of this episode.

This episode though Ash was incredibly out of character, I can't believe that scene where he tried to catch Rotom, it goes against pretty much everything he has ever done with not only releasing or trying to release Pokemon who have something else they want to do, but also with not catching Pokemon unless they want to be caught. It really goes against his personality in every series (even this one). Pretty weird scene.
