This was a really good episode after a streak of very subpar to poor ones.

First of all, we finally get some quality Ash focus, which is much appreciated! Not only that, but he also makes his first capture of the series! I was so surprised he actually caught Dragonite when the episode first aired in Japan, so it was really nice to rewatch it knowing he was going to end up making that catch. I thought the way he bonded with Dragonair was sweet and served for a classic Ash-style capture.

You really notice how jarring it is in relation to Goh's style, however. I just wish they'd vary his captures a bit. I mean...wasting an entire case of poke balls on one Pokemon? At least it led to him not being able to catch Dragonite, lol.

The prize master is still horrendous. Team Rocket's portrayal in Journeys is still below average. They didn't add anything to this episode, and the "only knows splash" Wailord was really lame. Major room for improvement when it comes to Team Rocket.

But overall, the episode gets major points for how Ash was written and his capture, as well as the Dratini/Dragonair/Dragonite lore that was written in. Always nice to see some of that included!
