and niele, sparkly patches are supposed to be rare pokemon..
Yep, I know. :) I'm just saying I've encountered almost every kind of Pokemon (including rarer ones like Eevee) in both types of grass equally as often - except for the Pokeradar exclusive ones. So I'm wondering, if when people refer to 'rare' Pokemon being in sparkly grass, that's what they mean. Of course, I'm just drawing on my own personal experiences, I have no data to actually back that up. I could just have weird luck.

How lucky can I get!!!
I was doing a buizel chain, and the pokemon that broke it was a buizel. I caught it to feed it foul poffin, but checked out its stats for fun and it has 31 stats in all stats!!!
Thats rarer than a shiny, I believe.

31 in every stat? Are you serious?

That's a lot rarer than a shiny, a whole lot.

And on the topic of rare pokemon in sparkly/non-sparkly, in my experience you can find any natural pokemon of the route via non-sparkly, even rarer stuff like Eevee that is only 5% chance of find, just the sparkly has a higher chance of rare. But I think it's required that it be sparkly to find the radar-specifics like Ralts etc.

It could be that on the IV calculator, you forgot to put a level in. I've done that before, and gotten all excited 'cause they're 31 across... and then they're not. :p

And the chance of finding a perfect-IV'd Pokemon is 1/32 times 1/32 times... or, 1/32 to the sixth power, which is 1/(2^(5*6)) = 1/(2^30) = 1/1073741824, which mean that perfect Pokemon are 131072 times rarer than shinies.

Whee. :p

Not true, I've found Sentret on route 202 in non-sparkly grass. ;P

I did that just to be sure and it still said that it had 31 in all stats, so Hah!

I arguing if I should raise it or trade it.

Then, my friend, you got way luckier than I when I was attempting to catch Ralts, no matter how many non-sparkly I walked into, they never showed up.

Four.

Through careful observation I've come to the conclusion that there are four normal non-blinking, non-glittery, or whatever you choose to call those patches that light up. Put simply, there are four types of patches that do not light up. I call any patches that don't light up normal because they still look like the grass normally does when nothing is shaking. In other words they don't change except for the movement.

There are two things that go into making the types of shakes. The type of movement and the duration of the shake.

First, there are two types of movements for the normal patches. Rapid and slow. Rapid movements shake very vigorously. Slow movements shake slowly, at least slower than the rapid ones.

Second, there are two durations for the normal patches. Short and long. Short durations are over very fast. Long durations last slightly longer than the fast ones.

When we combine the movements and the durations together we get four different types of shakes:

1. Rapid-Short
2. Rapid-Long
3. Slow-Short
4. Slow-Long

Rapid-Fast and Slow-Long shakes have noticeable duration differences, but Rapid-Long and Slow-Short shakes appear to shake the same length of time. The key is knowing whether it's movement was rapid or slow.

It will take time and practice to be able to differentiate between these types of shakes, or even to be able to notice them at first. It's probably best not to expect to be able to tell the differences right away. And while chaining, it can get difficult if you don't see a certain type of shake for a while. I'm hoping with time and practice that it will become easier to name them on sight.

We've determined a consistent way on how to figure out which shaking patch is farthest away. All that's left is to figure out why chains still break unexpectedly. The only possible solution I could think of is that we are going to the wrong types of shakes. It's either that or there is some sort of random intangible factor that we haven't figured out.

Do with this information what you will. Use it or don't use it. Believe it or don't believe it. I think I'm right about this but as always I know there's a chance I could be wrong.

Good luck everyone.

Ha! Ironically Wobbaone, you seem to have caught this thread during a bit of a stagnant period. I'll chime in. I've been casually going after houndoom the last couple days. Had 3 chains above 35, all lost to gravelers. Smug little rockmen! That's OK, I'll persist and they'll be mine.

BTW Skye, 4 types of non-sparky patches? Ugh. I'm skeptical though, for the moment. Maybe mostly because I can't bring myself to accept that there really are that many levels of complexity to this. I also wonder whether a new level of challenge kicks in above 35, or in proportion to your shiny encounter odds, of they really do increase exponentially. It just seems that I lose a lot of chains between 35-40 going after patches I know don't break my chains < 20.

...gravelers. Smug little rockmen!

I hate the Gravelers with their wee BEADY eyes! And that smug look on their faces, "Oh, you're gonna catch a shiny pokemon, are ya? Ohhhhhh!"

lol
If you know what movie I got based that on, you're too cool. :D

Ty for tutorial was verry informative :>.

Edit: Just caught 2 shiny gastrodon at 51 and 60, chain randomly ended at 67 after fighting another gastrodon oO
Double edit: I got my first shiny shinx at a chain of just 27 after failing at 29. Doh >_> my chain just got ended by a kircketot at 39 Shinx :<.
I guess i can get some sleep, 4 shinys in one day isnt bad :D.

I was trying to catch a shiny corsola but after failing about 7 different chains of 20-30 I started going for Dustox and it came up on my 3rd one, Still going after that Corsola though!
