I don't have much to respond to or say right now, but I do have a curiosity question. What do your shiny patches look like?

My patches have always looked like the last your described. Very bright, white 4 sparkles, a short pause and another sparkle. Almost completely impossible to miss (thankfully). I've never expierenced another type of shiny grass.

Yeah, luckily you definitely can't miss it unless you're not paying attention or something. But I do think the first type I used to get was more noticeable.

And on the topic of Surskit... congrats on your shiny. I've never even had it swarm for me!

Low chain luck strikes again! I'm EV training my Giratina on Bidoof's and my sixth one is a shiny female! Took me a second to realise what I was staring at when I noticed the shiny patch. xD Didn't have anything low level to weaken it so I just flung balls. She broke out of three Luxury Balls before going into a Repeat Ball. I'm not able to check her stats as I'm still chaining but I'll edit them in later. :)

Edit: I think my earlier luck jinxed me. xD I didn't break my original chain and got it to 39 at which point Giratina's training was done. I decided to just reset at 39 instead of risking losing it going on to 40. At this point I think I had about 170+ Max Repels. Now skip forward a bit and finally at 99 Max Repels I found my second shiny. x_x I gave up at that point. Not sure if I'll trade my spare or evolve one and keep the other the same.

My first is Serious and my second is Jolly. Both have Unaware and are female.

Hey guys, I signed up on here just to post on this thread.

So did I :). The first shiny I saw in D/P was a Pachirisu, which explains my name. I have 9 of them, and caught 7 in a chain of 60.

About the shiny patch, I usually see 4 yellow stars sparkle twice. But someone told me their one was purple/blue with a little star above.

HI! NEW MEMBER! Joined here just for this thread.

I was chaining Dunsparce last night and got a chain of 59!!! BUT THERE WAS NO SHINY PATCH!

Is there something I'm doing wrong? Or am I just really unlucky? I watched the video to see what the shiny patch looks like, but it's bad quality. Is there a good one?

Start resetting the radar when you reach at least 40. Carry lots of max repels! Sometimes it'll take 5 minutes of resetting to get a shiny, sometimes an hour. But yeah...resetting a lot of times is definitely key to this operation.

EDIT: 11 Caterpies :D

Do what thekillinglight said and just keep resetting at 40, that's your best bet. Don't get discouraged if it takes a long time. The longest I ever went between resetting was 85 super repels at 42 with phanpy... annoying! (already had 2 shinies though). But once the next one showed up, I got 4 more within the next 6 super repels so it all evened out.

Also, here is a better quality video of the shiny patch, watch the upper left hand corner:

By the way, that is what my shiny patches used to look like... now I get the 4 diamond shapes that other people here are describing. But don't worry, you DEFINITELY know when it happens. It'll be a much brighter and a more noticeable color and it'll shine longer than the other patches.

Anyway, aside from swarms, I seem to have not been able to get a decent chain going. I had a bit of luck today as I was chaining Weepinbell to EV train Articuno (yeah, I know... mine unfortunately has a brave nature), and I got a shiny at 15. The chain broke around 20 though.

Also, shiny pachirisu is really cute... maybe I should try him? Are there any other electric pokemon at valley windworks, aside from when electrike is swarming? Any tips, purple squirrel?

Oh thanks. It's just that resetting all the time gets on my nerves, because if I don't get it, I will have to walk another 50 steps. But patience is a necessity I guess. ;)

Also, try going for a shiny Hoppip near Valley Windworks. They aren't electric, but I'm sure that'll be cute.

There are things to make it less boring for you... talk on the phone or listen to music while you reset. Also, if you put something in daycare that needs leveling up or you bring some pokemon with pickup with you, at least it's not a total waste of time.

Well... I would try Hoppip, but I am horrible at chaining pokeradar exclusives. I can never get them to show up in the plain green grass, and the yellow grass shakes too fast for me and I have a hard time telling the different kinds apart. :(

There's Mareep, which is only in the Radar-exclusive patch.

Have a Pokemon with Static at the front of your party, it increases the chance of seeing Electric Pokemon.

Pachirisu shouldn't be too hard. Just stay out of the rare patches, and make sure Electrike aren't swarming, and hopefully Miss Pink Squirrel (not this one ;)) will pop up to say hi. (It's actually pink, not purple :p) But yeah, I think it's cuter than the blue one :)

Lol sorry... Pachirisu looks more purple than pink to me, so I wrote your name incorrectly. Won't happen again! I used the static trick to chain shinx and it was my first shiny pokemon so I guess it works. It won't be a problem staying out of the rare patches for me, I'm really bad at chaining in those. I suppose I'll see what needs speed EV training and see if I can chain Pachirisu. I've noticed that I get much, much less frustrated if my chains break when I'm EV training. Usually I need to EV train something in speed or special attack, and there are lots of nice things to chain for those EVs. I keep trying psyduck but I always fail... I got to 39 once though... grrr!

I need to stop posting so much...
