I must stop chaining at midnight. My Plusle chain broke because I was tired and kept running when my repel wore off. Luckily it was only at 8. Before I broke a chain of 40 Eevee because of the same thing, and 40 Wurmple because my hand slipped. It took a while to get the chains to 40 again, so I'm hoping not to mess up with Plusle.

Chaining

my highest chain is a 31 of bidoof, broken by a starly. grr..Does anybody have any good chaining pokemon that would be good for beginners who haven't gotten their first shiny yet? If so, can you tell me the route and pokemon name? Thanks!

Going back to chaining! Maybe starly...

Oh and sorry everyone, for triple posts..I realized what I'd done right after the third post..

I don't really buy into the range thing, which suggests that all 4 patches from the previous reset must be in range when you reset again. I have only had chains bust if I move far enough away so that all patches shaking from a reset move off screen. Is that what you mean? If so, that's pretty easy to avoid IMO.

I actually thought going out of range meant if the last patch you chained in goes off the screen, then you went out of range. This does seem to break my chains, but maybe that is not even what is meant by going out of range?

I am pretty annoyed with chaining right now. Pachirisu I couldn't do at all; I think Valley Windworks is too small for me. I had a Magnemite swarm and I got it to 39 before I went to bed... then I come home from work the next day and try to add one more to the chain, only to get my life eaten by Shinx. I knew I shouldn't have stopped when I was on a roll. And yes, I was using magnet pull... and the most annoying thing is I went for one of my slow circle patches, and it was clearly the farthest away (I was resetting a long time for a "safe" one). So honestly, I don't know if there is any truth or logic behind the 4 different plain green patches I see.

Also shinycharizard, this is only my opinion but try chaining Shinx on route 202 with a static pokemon in the lead. I think if you do this during the day, the only other pokemon are bidoof and starly... otherwise kricketot will be there too. That is where I found my first shiny shinx.

i agree.. i got my 5 first shiny with shinxs.. it's pretty easy to get them if u put a pokemon with static ability as the first pokemon in ur team.. but untill now i only have 4 shiny shinx, 1 shiny luxray, 3 shiny roselias, 5 shiny glooms, and 1 shiny voltorb.. i hope i can get hoppip as my latest addition..

Ya, I was just chainig shinx, but for some reason they keep getting broken by starly..I managed to get up to 17 before it broke. My highest is a 31 of bidoof..not the pokemon I was looking for, but I thought I'd give them a try. My main goal is ponyta. I think they're really cool when they are shiny. Plus I love horses.. lol! I'm just trying to chain shinx as "practice" to help improve my "knowledge" of chaining. lol. I tried chaining them again after the 17 broke, only managed up to 8. I'll keep trying cuz they do seem easy.

If this is the place to do so, I would like to share my most frustrating experience yet with the Poké Radar.

I was thinking yesterday that it might be worth searching for a shiny Absol if the swarm came up. Oddly enough, that was today's swarm. I managed to get the chain up to 34 between lunch and my 3:00 break before a Wingull broke it, my highest yet. Just now, I made it to 20 and decided to start resetting. It's after midnight, so I knew that if I broke this chain, then I wouldn't have another chance until the swarm came up again, so taking the time to reset at 20 would have been better than having no chance for a shiny Absol at all tonight. Perhaps it was because I'm tired and my mind isn't functioning correctly, but when I reset the Radar for what would turn out to be the last time, I noticed a slightly obstructed patch that seemed to sparkle in a different way. I decided to venture into this one and see what was inside, and even if it wasn't shiny, I thought that it was far enough away to still at least give me another Absol and thus preserve my chain. I stepped inside, noticed the Absol icon on my Pokétch vanish, and silently cursed my bad luck. With that, I waited to see what it was that broke my chain, and it turned out to be...an Absol. For a moment, I hoped that it would have been shiny, but the normal colour scheme was revealed, and now I'm left utterly bemused by the fact that an Absol broke my Absol chain.

does it really like that?.. if we stepped out of the radar area, the shiny patch will become normal one?.. hmm... can anybody confirm this?..

Absol is such a pain, at least for me. I don't even know how many times I tried chaining it. It would ALWAYS break. My best ever was 38. That is weird though how an Absol you found with the radar broke your chain. But when the patch is really a shiny patch, you'll know. When you get higher in the chain you start getting what I like to call "fake shiny patches" that kind of just flash bright white for a second. A real shiny one will glow a different color and shine twice. It lasts for a much longer time than all the others. But anyway, I think you'd be better off trying to get the chain higher than resetting at 20. You would need really, really good luck to see a shiny that early. It happens sometimes, but it's rare. According to the charts that Totoro did, the chances of seeing a shiny only start to increase exponentially around the mid 30s. Though if I do ever get an Absol swarm again, I will probably reset around 37 or 38. Stupid Wingulls.

Well, if it was obstructed it was probably near an edge of the patch. Stepping into these patches is dangerous because it is possible that the next set of 4 patches will all fall outside of the grass area. Instead of giving you a message saying the grass remains still, the chain simply breaks.

Another thing that will "break your chain for no reason" is running too far from the shaking patches. Even if you remain within the patch, some are so large you can go to the other side, and that will be far enough to break it. This can easily be observed in the large grass patch on Route 214.

I had a lot of trouble chaining at the start. It takes a lot of patience and luck, but once you get the hang of it, it's not so bad. You'll also run into these breaks that seem to make no sense, but usually right after the chain pokemon image disapears you'll start realising what it was almost instantly. The patch wasn't the same, it was too close, it was too FAR, I went out of range, the patch was on the edge.

The only time you can ever really risk stepping into an edge patch is when it's a shiny shake. And trust me, I thought about 3 different things were shiny shakes before I saw my first real one. Practice, practice practice. You'll get it eventually.

And I don't think you need to start off with an easy one. My first was Ponyta, which is an easy one, but that's because I wanted a couple. Go for what you want. My second shiny goal was Eevee and after a couple weeks I got a good run and got 12. Anything is possible, so just keep at it.

I tried chaining different Pokemon, but didn't have much luck. Then I thought of chaining Buneary, as my little cousin wanted to see a shiny one. She happened to be watching when my chain was at 38 and a shiny patch appeared. The bunny looked cute with pink fluff =3

After catching it, I got the chain to 40, and have found another shiny patch. But it's on the edge, so I don't know if it will break my chain.. Luckily it didn't, and another shiny in the box. :)

EDIT: When I was resetting, I saw that the patch behind me didn't shake like the other patches, and I'm sure it's not a rare patch. I didn't see any other patches move around me, so I'm not sure if the one behind me is a shiny patch. I couldn't see sparkles, but that was probably because my character is blocking most of it. Could this be a shiny patch? Maybe I should find out...
EDIT2: No, it wasn't... darn Nincada... oh well, two shinies will do.

Squall: That happens all the time. I have had ridiculous numbers of Chains broken by the chained pokemon.

I have been trying to get a shiny beldum for a very long time now but my chains always break on 20. Does anybody have some tips of how to catch a shiny beldum?
