After an enormous break from chaining, I gave it another try, and after only three in the chain, I was going for my fourth, and I found a shiny Dusclops! The patch wasn't shiny though....

What's the point of going through all that trouble to get a "shiny"?

Aesthetics don't mean crap, ya know...

Because chaining is not about power, which is all you seem to care about. And no one here cares if your Aggron or Salamence or whatever has been in the Hall of Fame 10000 times.

Power does not mean everything, aesthetics are important as well.

If aesthetics don't mean crap (terrible grammar, by the way), the why do you buy the same Pokemon game over and over if there is no significant change in gameplay? Why does Bulbagarden have somewhere around 20 different skins? I want to know.

I accuse him of being a TROLL.

Anyway, I havent chained in months. I can get the chain up there, but it's too frustrating. Maybe I'll try again...

There is totally a non-shiny disease... I noticed I ironically picked it up once I joined this thread. I haven't had a decent chain since. :(

Yikes, attack the guy for only caring about power...
weird.
And it's definitely been said in this thread before that spending hours upon hours or literally DAYS upon days to get a Pokemon of a different color that you can't prove you didn't hack or whatever is really wasteful of time. Just do what you want, though.
He's not a troll, he's just honest...and the hundreds of people who come in this thread with s/n's of "Shiny hunter 440" or "SHINYFTWILUVSHINIEZ!" and leave after a day of failing at chaining reinforce how frivolous this entire method really is.
There isn't really a difference other than the one we give the shiny Pokemon in terms of the actual game, so just be happy with your twenty hours necessary to get a purple squirrel picture that does nothing except ...exist as a purple squirrel picture... and ignore the people who are justified in thinking that chaining may be a little bit of a waste of time.

It's not all about the power. I use what I use because I like to use it. For example, Alakazam has been a staple part of every Pokemon version I have had since I discovered it back in the days of RBY. In D/P, the Buneary I use is my personal nod to the anime, and I doubt Buneary/Lopunny is really a "strong" Pokemon, as far as they go. I just don't see any point in going through all that trouble for an alternate color.

Yeesh. You guys make me sound like Paul or Seto Kaiba or something...

Ok... Maybe I was jumping to conclusions, so I take that last post back... But I was just trying to say that aesthetics don't mean nothing.

Chaining isn't always a total waste of time, if you're doing it for long enough. Maybe shiny hunting is pointless, but I like chaining because I think it's fun and addictive.

And shiny Pachirisu is PINK. I'm surprised at how many people have called it purple squirrel. Doesn't my name reflect that it's pink?

Well, it could be argued that the entire game is a waste of time. Why play at all? Because it's fun, right? And with as many features as it has, different people find different aspects fun. Some will spend hours breeding to get perfect IVs, others will spend their time chaining for shinies. I don't see anything wrong with that. We all like different things. =)

I'm one of those who does just about everything, but I must admit that chaining is probably my favourite new feature in D/P. I find it so fun and addictive! Also, it can be used not only for finding shinies; but for other reasons such as EV training or stealing rare items. All three can be done at once, too.

Oh, and I agree that shiny Pachirisu is pink. ;) I caught one for my friend for that very reason. But I can see how some people might interpret it as purple.

I dont like to argue much, but every since I came here I was addicted to shinies. It isnt a waste of time, it just takes persaverance(sp?). If you think its a just a waste of time, then dont chain. We arent making you.

For everyone new or having problems chaining, take it from me. I have been chaining for who knows how long and I just got my first shiny.

I agree with poke fan. We aren't forcing you to chain. If you dislike chaining, then that's your opinion. I do it because it makes time fly, and it can be fun, or annoying. If you get a shiny, then congrats, if you don't, keep trying and you eventually will. Nobody is good or bad at chaining. It just depends on luck. Anyway, poke fan made a good point. Don't chain if you dislike it, also, don't come on here and post complaints about how much you haaaate chaining. Nobody wants to hear it. (Sorry if I may seem a bit harsh, i'm not trying to. lol)

Happy Chaining!

Aww, camon u guys.. Lets just let this thread be all about shinies and just that.. Dont post anything that can make others piss off.. Some peoples like shinies, and some just dont.. Lets just live with it..

By the way, I caught 3 shiny Hoppips today.. Takes me about 4 hours and 100++ max repels to get it.. YIPPIE!!!!

Edit : I had a Beldum swarm yesterday, and I tried chaining them.. What u guys said about how hard it is to chain Beldum, u guys are wrong.. It's not hard, it's IMPOSSIBLE!!! I just walked blindly without knowing which patch shaked.. I cant barely see the sparkling ones, and the one that just shakes without sparkles, arent visible at all. I'm using the old DS, so I cant adjust the brightness.. So for those who have caught ( or even encountered ) shiny Beldums, big applause for you..
